Abraham-Dirrell: Look for Arthur to KO Andre
By Sam Gemmell: Arthur Abraham (31-0 (25) takes on Andre “the matrix” Dirrell (18-1 (13) on March 27th at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
Abraham looked good in knocking out Jermain Taylor in the 12th round in the 1st stage of the Super 6 World Boxing Classic on October 17th. I can’t say the same for Andre Dirrell, though. He looked awful against WBC Super Middleweight champion Carl Froch in his 12 round split decision defeat on October 17th last year.
Dirrell has good skills though and has the talent to become a world champion some day, with his blistering hand speed, good movement, decent power, and excellent jab.
This is how I see the Abraham vs Dirrell going:
Dirrell will win the first few rounds with his hit run and hold tactics, but then Abraham will start opening up a bit more which will force Dirrell to sprint around the ring all night trying to avoid Arthur’s bombs. However, eventually Abraham will catch up to Dirrell and KO him in brutal fashion. After this fight, I see Dirrell quitting the Super Six tourney.

Dirrell will KO Abraham in the first. You red it hear first folks – anybody who thinks otherwise will be getting a Gilfoid style beatdown.
Hahaha, i like it, fair play on the headline you chose to use Sam.
Abraham stunned me with how he looked against Taylor, i know Taylors shot and all that but until he fades Taylor looks as good as ever and AA was in control in those rounds aswell as the later ones.
Dirrell went and blew it against Froch but up until the middle rounds he was schooling him, he looked very very good.
im sure hes looked long and hard into what went wrong that night and has picked up valuable experience from it, we cant fully expect to see the same thing again.
Im predicting a AA victory but im not over confident about the prediction.
Alan.
The point is that if Dirrell had opened up more this would have given Froch more chances to nail him.
I was also at the fight and scored it to froch by 2.
Finally seeing a different opinion than the usual Scott gilfoid bulls***.
agree in most points, however, AA needs to be cautious against dirrell. this guy is dangerous
I was at the Froch fight, all Dirrell had to do was open up and be willing to risk trading and he wins. Bottom line he didnt do enough to take the belt in a champions backyard, if he fights the same tactics again he gets beat and knocked out of the super six
A writer finally making some common sense
I think Dirrell can beat Abraham but he needs to be consistent. In rounds 4 and 11 against Froch he was top drawer and won those rounds with relative ease. He needs to shows some more guts and put himself in slightly more dangerous positions. If he can do at least 5 very good rounds instead of 2 then he will win.
IIIFFF Dirrell can get it together then sure but Abraham is still the favourite. And even if Dirrell gets beat and goes out, he could leave with a belt… if he can beat Ward. You never know.
Non sense.
Sam:
I hear what you’re saying.
I get ahead of myself sometimes when I get heated.
It will be a good match and Dirrell will have to show up to beat on Abraham.
We will see the victor soon my friend.
sam i think you’re forgetting about andre’s late rounds rally vs. froch. in the last few roudns of the fight he was looking to take froch out and he rocked him a few times. a lot of people were saying if he had fought like that the whole fight he would have won even if it was in nottingham. this is why i don’t see the fight as you see it, he’ll run some to avoid engaging all 12 rounds with someone that powerful, but i don’t think he’ll pull that immature stuff again, especially since abraham has a significant reach disadvantage.
Considering all the daily pro Dirrell articles, it’s nice to see there is another side
))) Dirrell is a good fighter, but AA is a world champ and Dirrell has a long way to prove himself, like Ward did…
@ Nick Winner ofcourse it’s not as clean cut that arthur will win this fight, im just saying based on dirrell’s last performance he will not beat abraham. he needs to engage more and i hope he proves me wrong BIG TIME! because he has so much god given talent.
Hi guys don’t for 1 minute think i hate andre dirrell, he is very talented and seems a good guy, and maybe im being a bit to harsh in this article, i hated his tactics in the froch fight, i hope andre proves me wrong and puts in a good performance.
@PlumbLBW
You make quite a few valid points. I don’t know what Dirrells problem was with holding. Certainly didnt help him in the long run. I do agree with you that he could have easily taken the fight if he had played it a little smarter.
However, That does not change the fact that Abraham does not hold a candle to Dirrell. Someone who is flat footed that has his guard up the entire time, won’t have as big an impact on a switch hitting footwork artist like Dirrell.
I am not trying to be bias, because Abraham is tough as nails, but I just don’t agree at all that its such a cut and dry fight. Dirrell is a skilled boxer.
@Nick Winner
Froch became frustrated, because of the constant holiding from Dirrell. It wasn’t his superior skill and excellent defensive skills, but the constant holding that destroyed the fight. I think the judges scored against him for this. Most judges don’t have a problem with superior defensive skils (otherwise Mayweather would never get a decision), but I believe they don’t like constant holding, which is what Dirrell did constantly throughout the fight.
Froch is sh1t though and Dirrell could have beaten him easily if he used his skills and engaged more often. Even if he stood toe to toe with Froch he would have hit him 10 times before Froch knew what happened. Froch is a f8cking hard bas*ard, but has zero skills. Joe Calzaghe would have showed us how to pick Froch apart for 12 rounds.
Love it, it’s about time someone said how it is, enough of froch being awful inthe dirrell fight. There was one very good reason why and that was Andre dirrell!
He will have the same plan against the king as dirrell is affriad of getting hit!
he shudve definatly had that split decesion go his way. no doubt about it. it was the home town fighter who got the hometown discount. he couldve defenitly won that fight convisngly but i dunt kno y he chose to figh thtat way. dirrel wins this fight unanimous.
I have to agree with this article.
Dirrell does have skills and can look flashy and quick but perhaps he is not at the level of world class just yet. Perhaps this tournament has come a little too early for him. He was very immature and amateurish against Froch, moaning, crying and holding on every chance he got.
Can we expect more of the same against Abraham? Or will Dirrell have realised you need heart to win titles?
We will see on March 17th.
Andre Dirrell may have been running a big in his fight, but it was probably to get away from the back punching, body slamming, scumbag Brit who couldn’t handle some competition like a true sportsman.
Abraham did NOT look good against Taylor. Taylor looked horrible against Abraham. That is a BIG difference.
