Abraham arrives in Detroit for Dirrell fight

By Scott Gilfoid: Arthur Abraham (31-0, 25 KO’s) has reportedly arrived in Detroit, Michigan, after flying nine hours from Germany. Abraham will be facing Andre Dirrell (18-1, 13 KO’s) next Saturday night at the Joe Louis Arena, in Detroit, Michigan. Abraham, 30, is considered the favorite by many boxing experts to beat Dirrell in their stage 2 Super Six tournament fight. However, Abraham is coming into the fight without much else going for him other than power. Dirrell has everything else going for him in this fight – hand speed, mobility, height, reach, youth and home town advantage.

This is going to be a bit of a shock for the so-called experts when they see how tough of a time that Abraham finds himself in on March 27th. Abraham struggled badly in his last fight against American Jermain Taylor last October, doing next to nothing during the first six rounds of the fight, which was held in Germany. Abraham mostly just held his gloves up in front of his face like he did in his first fight with Edison Miranda in 2006, and tried to block the incoming fire.

After the 6th, Abraham began to wildly rush Taylor, looking like he had no real plan other than to try and bowl him over like balling ball. It looked really crude, I must say. During these wild charges, Abraham would miss almost all of the punches that he threw at Taylor. The German crowd, however, ate it up, cheeringly madly for Abraham, encouraging him as if he was actually landing punches. He wasn’t.

The judges thought otherwise, and gave Abraham the rounds despite the fact that Taylor was boxing beautifully, ramming jabs and hooks down Abraham’s throat one after another like he was stuffing him with them. In the second half of the fight, Abraham did a good job of roughing Taylor up, landing rabbit shots, a nice elbow that staggered Taylor in the 9th. The referee somehow didn’t see the elbow. I don’t know how he could have missed it because it was painfully obvious.

I expect Abraham to fight the exact same way he did against Taylor. He’ll do zero for the first six rounds, just covering up and playing possum. Oh, he’ll try to win the rounds with a flurry at the very end of each round, but he won’t make a concerted effort to work hard like he should. In the 2nd half of the fight, depending on how badly Abraham is behind in the fight, he’ll start rushing Dirrell more and more to try and land one of his big homerun punches.

I expect Dirrell to have built up a huge lead by this point in time with his brilliant boxing skills. So by the time that Abraham starts up his offense in the second half of the fight, he’ll have no other choice but to fight like a wild man to try and either knock Dirrell out or muddy the water enough so that he can somehow earn or close decision or draw.

The way that Dirrell will handle Abraham’s wild attacks is by shooting jabs into his face, stepping to the sides like a matador when the bull-like Abraham comes steaming forward trying to land his punches. Abraham does everything backwards.

Abraham doesn’t fight the way you’re told. Fighters aren’t supposed to run while fighting, but if you look at Abraham’s fights, he’s springing after his opponents when he comes charging them. It must be kind of a shock to fighters to see someone doing this, because it’s just not something you see in boxing. But that’s what Abraham likes to do. Dirrell just has to stay calm, move to the left or right and get out of his way.

Scott you do know you haven’t mentioned a British fighter in this article?? Surely some mistake!

  • Rich says:

Dirrell is just another “loud mouth and look good in the last
seconds of the round”. He will look good in the first 4-5 rounds, then he will find out what fighting a man is.
Arthur will start putting the pressure and you will see
the ballet dancer running away from corner to corner. But in the end, he will lay on his back like Taylor did. Too bad
for all the family members that will be sitting in the
    crowd ….. snif, snif

  • Paul says:

Starting out Dirrell, will probably box beautifully, but ultimately Abraham will steamroll him to a decision.

  • jb says:

Dirrell will try to steal this decision, but I can’t see him beating Abraham. I don’t see Abraham swinging wildly as the writer suggests. I think he chooses his punches well.

Fighters aren’t supposed to run while fighting, ha ha ha ha ha haaa !!. have a quiet word in yr mans ear.!!

  • wasabi says:

wow, even when i think this was Scotts dumbest article he has ever written he surprises me with another one which is even more stupid. Bravo Scotty!

  • Marcos M says:

Dirrell is a t-shirt at best. Who has he fought before the Super Six tournament? Who?

The fact is Dirrell has not been inside the ring with any of the elite fighters within this or any other weight class, and although he may have some decent boxing skills, the lack of experience with real opposition was one of the main reasons why he lost against Froch.

It’s one thing to tell a fighter to stay calm during a fight, but another is to expect it from a fighter like Dirrell while facing a top caliber opposition like Abraham.

I disagree with your article, and believe Arthur will win the fight.

I cant wait for Abraham to knock Dirrell out so you can cliimb out of his arse Guilfoid! Do you have a life sized doll of Dirrell that you cliimb into bed with every night?

  • dave says:

i love the way he uses home town advantage as a positive thing when he talks about dirrell but then says its a negative thing when mitchell, haye, khan, froch and other uk fighters fight… he stated that its wrong top rely on the home crowed cus they put pressure on you and they mite get silenced and turn against you ect ect…. he trys to be analyticle about fighters sometimes, but usually its just biased, hypercritical rubbish this man comes out with….last time i comment on a scot gilfoid article!! ill come back in a year and see if he’s still writing the same boring stuff time after time!! im sure he will be!

  • jimmyoshea16 says:

What if scott gilfoid is andre dirrell, dum dum dummm

  • Dj Mbenga says:

AA arrived in detroit…….?????????? where is the rest of the story ?

  • Raklon says:

Come on Scott! Show Abraham some respect! He’s a good champion! Every boxing fan must respect his legacy and your not an exception. Abraham was clearly winning against Taylor. Even the most pro Taylor fan would agree with me. They would give Abraham the lead by at least 1 round at the end of 12 if it was not for the KO.

You will see, it’s gonna be a total domination by Abraham. He’s gonna so much dominate Direll that it won’t even by funny.

  • JJ says:

Scott i was getting geared up to have a right old go at you there but it appears the people above have done it for me.

We all know that boxing in Germany is normally a loss for the away fighter (sven ottke vs robin reid the worst decision I have ever seen) but it is evident that arthur abrahams record is not 1 filled by robberies and bums, look at his KO ratio.. take off the american goggles buddy, i hope to god the judges on the 27th havent got your metality or arthur has no chance.

  • Oli says:

Expect dirrel to get hit once in the first round, then run, hug, hold, spoil, cry and complain for 12 rounds before losing a decision and crashing out of the super 6

  • Got Skillvoid says:

Dirrell could not even convincingly outbox Carl Froch whereas Jemain Taylor clearly outboxed Froch until the KO…Abraham was well ahead on points against Taylor…these facts leave me to believe that King Arthur is another step up in class for Dirrell, unless he has made some serious changes in this training camp he will loose. I can see Dirrell really stinking the joint out again in this one and maybe having points docked for holding/spoiling.

  • Pat Sullivan says:

Scott – I must have watched a different Abraham-Taylor fight than you. I am not a huge boxing writer/expert like yourself, so don’t think I am stupid for asking, but, “Did they fight again and I missed it?” Because if there has been only one match between these two then you have no frickin clue as to what constitutes a winner in boxing. Taylor had no business being in the ring with Abraham or in the Super 6.

  • mickeymarley says:

watch for Dirrell to run and hug and spoil and still get beaten
