by Stephen Tannock: So after all the hard work promoter Frank Warren puts into making World Boxing Association light welterweight Amir Khan a superstar, yet he turns his back on Frank to join Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions company. Warren put his money into five big fights: Breidis Presscott, Osin Fagan, Marco Antonio Barrera Barrera, Andriy Kotelnik (the easiest fight of all the world champions) and Dmitri Salita and now Khan is dodging his mandatory challenger, Marcos Maidana.
In closing, I would just to thank Frank Warren for all his help in making Amir Khan what he is today. I just hope James DeGale, Frankie Gavin, Billy Joe Saunders, Nathan Cleverly, Kevin Mitchell, Sam Sexton and all his other rising stars in the world of boxing will not back away from arguably the best in boxing promoter in the world.

Seriously though,i concede to your superior knowledge of the WBA regs, but do you not think it leaves a sour taste in the mouth that Khan has been protected from big hitters even though it makes good buisness sense for him and GBP.
Having said all that i do think Marquez is a tricky opponent and he could come unstuck.What do you think??
i really want to see khan tested against someone. I think JMM is a good opponent and could make khan look really bad. IF they both fight, would really give this a 50 to 50. All khan has to do against madiana is outbox. However marquez is a world class counter puncher and he will eat khans flurries. I really want to watch this.
khans made the right choice and im prety sure 99% of people in his position would make the same one, more money…more recognition,,,its simple business sense..khan will get plenty more chances to fight maidana,,and get more $$$$ when there each both more established….honestly youd have to be a fool to turn down a fight with marques and that pay packet to fight maidana ,,,
I don’t think it’s a mistake on fighting Marquez than Maidana after all he is a champion. He can pick anyone and Marquez is proven veteran, a tough opponent and can beat him in any given night if he does’nt bring his A game. Maidana can wait after this is over.

What nonsense you talk,mandatory challengers and governing bodies rankings are not there to be used when it’s convenient,the ranking system (however flawed) is there to stop the money men doing exacly what you are suggesting.Maidana has earned the no1 ranking and has a punchers chance of beating Khan and then going on to fight for big money to secure his future.

Khan is doing the smart thing. Fighting Marquez will get him more publicity and more money. Would I rather see Khan face Maidana? Yes, but a fight with Marquez will not only make him more money in this fight, but will make him a bigger name and more marketable and more profitable for future bouts. Boxing is a business and Khan could fight Maidana and quite possibly get knocked out in a fight that hardly anyone watches and will be ignored by the general public. Then what for the 23 year old Khan?? Getting knocked out by someone thats not known is not the way to get your name out there for other big-money fights. Its the same with Manny; after beating ODLH Top Rank realized his new-found earning potential and are protecting him from the likes of Mosley and Mayweather.
its funny that when khan was fighting salita he was on tv and in newspapers banging on about him being the mandatory challenger and thisis wht he must do.nw the mandatory challeger issue seems to have been forgotten,as there is a good chance he will gets knocked out by maidaina.
nothing against khan i think hes looked good now under roach but there is no getting away from the fact he will be protected in the intrest of making money for the promotors.this is what happens and its crap.it will happen until they have no choice but to put him in a risky fight.and this will be when the money earnt is maximised from him.

Ive never liked khan and it was only a matter of time before he started to believe the (over)hype that surrounds him. Now its only a matter of time before he’s knocked clean out again. Even his own camp know this.

Everyone’s treating Marquez like he’s finished. He stood there for 12 rounds against Mayweather, and occasionally landed a few shots (maybe not many) against that perfect head movement. Even Mayweather himself said “the guy was too tough” to knock out. AT MOST, I can see Khan winning a decision. And Marquez wasn’t too bad at lightweight. He soaked up everything Diaz threw and then finished it in style and with power. Khan will have to take some of his shots if he wants to make it to twelve rounds.
People be patient with Khan vs. Maidana. I would rather see a good contest instead of a 54 second KO.

Its too big a risk, why risk losing millions by a fighting a potentially more difficult opponent now when you always have the option to face him next year with some cash in the bank? I dont blame Kahn for leaving to join golden boy to make it big in america, he will get things moving alot quicker over there, and he will be able to build a good reputation up in the next few years, but he has made a huge mistake already by fighting another past their best fighter in Marquez. Like Barrera he is a legend but his prime years are gone. The Americans wont like Kahn dropping his arse to Maidana. He should clear the light-welter weight division, the likes of bradley,malginari, campbell, then move up a weight after a few years, then take on the best like mayweather and pacquiao. dodging mandatory opponents is showing weakness and if Kahn continues to keep doing this he will never be remembered as a great. khan hasnt really been tested, the barrera fight shouldnt have happened he was way over the hill and its a disrespect to boxing when you get someone whos a legend and way past their best fighting someone like khan and losing.. we all know khan is not in the same league as barrera. if khan wants to really be respected in the game he needs to step up and fight quality fighters who are actually in their prime
LMAO I just read HBO and GBP are arranging it so maidana wont fight chicken khan for at least a year while they match him with old washed up lightweights.I will definitely be making other plans whenever he fights.I have no interest in this fraud and wont be giving this glass jawed chicken any ratings.
