What’s the logical outcome of a Haye vs. Klitschko bout?
By Scott Gilfoid: After looking at trainer Freddie Roach’s interview yesterday at the Telegraph in which Roach said that the Klitschko brothers were winnable fights for Haye, I got the distinct impression that Roach wouldn’t mind being the trainer for Haye. He had a ton of nice things to say about him and it was mildly amusing to watch Roach talking about Haye as if he was the second coming of Mike Tyson. But how would Haye stand up to the stresses of being pounded on by the Klitschko brothers for 12 rounds?
I’d like that too, but can Haye do that? As a cruiserweight, Haye was fighting the likes of Giacobbe Fragomeni, Jean Marc Mormeck, Enzo Maccarinelli, Ismail Abdoul, Lasse Johansen and Alexander Gurov at roughly 200 pounds. I may be wrong here, but I think those dudes would get mowed down quick against either of the Klitschko brothers and would be lucky to lay a glove on either of them.
I don’t see Mormeck putting Wladimir down like he did Haye. I just can’t see that happening. Roach may want Haye to start fighting like he used to, but could it be that the parameters have changed now that Haye is looking to fight the Klitschko brothers, who are 50 pounds heavier than the cruiserweights that Haye fought as a cruiserweight. Haye can follow Roach’s advice and try fighting aggressively like he used to do as a cruiserweight, but the chances are Haye’s might not be able to hold up under the strain of getting hit by fighters that are much bigger than the kind that Haye feasted on as a cruiserweight.
Haye isn’t a real huge guy at 6’3”, and doesn’t have a long reach, a great jab and good foot movement. He can punch hard, but he’s like a small car that is going up against big race cars. He’s doing well against some of the lesser fighters, like Valuev, Bonin and Barrett, but those guys aren’t comparable to the Klitschko brothers. Valuev was 36 at the time that he fought Haye, and Barrett 38.
That’s a far cry from fighting some of the younger top tier heavyweights like Odlanier Solis, Alexander Povetkin and Eddie Chambers. Those would be really tough fights for Haye, and I’m not so sure he could get through those bouts in one piece without his chin betraying him again like it did against 40-year-old Carl Thompson in 2004.
So while I think that Haye, if he was so inclined, could follow Roach’s advice and fight aggressively against the Klitschko brothers, I think it would lead to Haye getting blown out of the water against either brother. The logical outcome of having a smaller heavyweight like Haye, with no jab, a limited reach and a low rate tangling with the Klitschko brothers, is a probable knockout loss by Haye.
He might do alright as long as he runs for his life, but once Haye stops for a second and tries to throw a shot in defense, I see him getting drilled to the head by a big right hand, stunned and then taken out in a flurry of shots.

Scott, you’re probably not aware but hay fought Solis in the amateurs a few years back and lost the fight on points. BUT, in the first round he caught Solis with a shot which almost put Solis on the canvas. Had it not been for the ref the figh would have been stopped. If it had a been in the pros, Solis would have suffered a bad knockou as he really was out on his feet. If you have any doubt about it, watch it on Youtube. Anway, I don’t see any of these so called ‘top contenders’ chasing Haye, the way he has chased teh Klitchkos. Could it be that they know he is a true ko artist and if he caught any of them flush, they’d be seeing stars??
haye will never face either klitschko he is so scared of them
what’s the “logical outcome”?
what was the “logical outcome” of pac vs de la hoya? or ali vs foreman? or clay vs liston? anyone who even remotely followed boxing would know never to make that kind of statement. the klitschko’s would be betting favourites but upsets happen.
you are all mental and deluded haye never been knocked out he has been stopped but not knocked out big difference none of the klitchko sisters ever been in the ring with hayes speed they wont be able to stand and jab he simply to talented for that they bore the sh*t of me yeah haye has big mouth but at least he is exciting get behind him hayemaker will rule division defo !!!!!!!!!!
Haye will win only in one case – if you can score with your mouth. NOBODY IN THE WORLD in the last 15 years had found effective way to fight tall and strong jabbers. Starting with Lewis and ending with Klitchko. Occasional loss here and there doesn’t count. #3 trainer in the world(roach) just wants the job. But #1 (manny steward) is in the Wlads corner and Vitaly if you ever watched his fights gets more aggresive if he gets hit. Haye has no chances, sorry Mr Big Mouth.
Haye would get ko by the jab of Wladimir while Vitali would brutally KO haye with many punches! Probably another 5 punches landing while Haye is falling!
RICK THEY ARE NOT BIG PUNCHERS FOR HEAVYWEIGHTS HAYE HAS MORE POWER THAN THEM FACT!
Iam a Haye fan and English, I have watched all of Hayes proffessional fights and all of the Klit bros fights since the Lewis fight. I just cant see Haye beating either brother, Vit klit will stand and trade with Haye all day long (only way he will beat Vit is if he gets old in the ring on the night) Wlad is a better boxer and more powerful than Vit, but isnt as tough. Wlad has the best jab in the business, Vit is the toughest in the division. Iam sorry, but the title is ‘logical outcome’ there is only one winner in either fight. But wouldnt it be great for an undisputed champion again. My advice to Haye would be to fight Vit first due to his age.He needs to fight Vit before he starts to loose it. That way all the yanks will at least give Haye some credit and respect if he wins. Wlad is always in shape and is younger so plenty of time for that one. I just hope he doesnt rush into either fight….. take on Ruiz then maybe a grudge with Solis as Solis KO’d Haye in the finals of the olympics. Anyways hope its a great year for boxing Peace
Jonesy.
If the K’s are not big punchers, how come Vitali has the highest KO percentage in H/W boxing?
Ruslan Chagaev had never been knocked down or out, until Wladimir knocked him down witb a straight right. If that sort of right hand landed on Haye, Haye would be knocked down and counted out. If Haye can beat fighters such as Povetkin, Chambers, Briggs, Boytsov and Solis, then he will be held in more regard.
6’3 and 220 pounds of muscle. Doesn’t appear to be too small to me.
The K brothers have fought many power punchers who hit VERY hard! As for the auther saying that he thinks Haye is small?,many of the guys he just named are small heavies who weigh close to what Haye does without Haye excellent physique!
Haye is NOT too small to fight at heavyweight, have many forgotten Evander Holyfield?!(Although it must be admitted that EH chin is like granite, whats Hayes like?!)
I guess we will have to wait and see!
heye make only a massage for klitshchko. that’s all.
Alot of people are so negative for Haye to beat the Klitschko bros …. i think he can do it with his speed and power, we have seen he can move around and be disciplined in the Valuev fight. The Kli’kos arent fighting people who hit as hard as Haye of late, and I think he could take them by suprise.
Good luck haye-maker!!
Haye slips the jab like no other. He invites the jab and dummies with head movement to encourage it. He then can unleash his combinations. A couple of powerful right hands to the Ks will rattle them and Haye will grow in confidence. Scott saying Haye has poor movement is ridiculous. He is quick by foot and has fantastic hand speed. He is also a great counter puncher so when fighers come at him he counters like no one.
I agree with you though the K’s are formidable adversarys for any opponent and Haye will have his work cut out to beat them. Regarding his loss to Thompson and knockdown by Mormeck. Everyone has a bad day at the office. No? Boxers are no different however Thommo was in 2004 when Haye was a kid. He is the complete physical specimen now.
useless question because K-Haye will not happen
One thing is for sure – there will be no shortage of fight fans queuing up to see a fight with Haye against either Klitschko brother to see if he can overcome the height and weight disdvantages as he did against Valuev.
rick you trumpet you obviously know nothing about boxing none of the klitchko sisters are big punchers everyone knows that !
Does anyone who knows about boxing, believe that Haye can avoid being hit by even one big punch from the Klitschko’s?
When one of those big punches lands on Haye, he will feel power like he have never felt before. He will either be knocked down or badly stunned. I suspect that even the hard jabs from the Klitschko’s would hurt Haye. Haye had said that Monte Barrett’s jabs felt like a cruiser’s right hand. Granted, Haye does have speed and power. His chin is suspect though. Fighting weak punching h/w’s will not prepare him for what will come.
Haye will be able to get at the Wlad, avoid the jab and counter hard. I see this fight being a display of skill, speed and power and I see haye knocking the guy out. Wlad does not have the greatest chin in the world and Haye hits clean and he hits hard. Haye by KO.
Vitali is slightly different prospect and I see this fight being similar to the Valuev fight. Haye countering with fast, clean punches and Vitali looking slow and old. Perhaps this will go the distance but Haye will need both hands undamaged to do this. He is more likely to get caught against Vitali but I don’t think Vitali will have been hit so much before in his career. I think this is the more dangerous and more interesting match-up. Haye on points or Vitali by KO – I cannot decide.
David Haye is in for a trouncing at the hands of either Klitschko this is why the potty mouthed pretender will not in all reality appear in the ring with either brother. This objectionable clown will end up on the KO list of some heavyweight sooner or later and if he thru misfortune or circumstance happened to face one or the other Klitschko in the square circle Haye`s boxing days would conclude at that precise point.
Haye is in over his little pin head in the heavyweight division and his oddly inflated body will not save the day for this bad actor turned boxer.
Haye brings into the ring his characteristic one punch hope for a KO tactic which was sufficient to achieve success in the cruisers but now Haye finds himself in a whole new ball game in the heavies which explains his timorous style in the Valuev contest. Haye went into this fight full of the usual big talk how Haye would manhandle the Russian and then he showed all the world for 12 full rounds what a craven coward will sink to for victory.
The logical outcome is Haye to eat the long jab all night, till the bombs come over the top.
ONE WORD PRESSURE, NO ONE PUT WLADIMIR UNDER PRESSURE ANYMORE WHEN PEOPLE USED TO THEY BEAT HIM AND WITH HIS SUSPECT CHIN AND HAYES INCREDIBLE POWER HE WILL SIMPLY HAVE TO FIGHT LIKE TYSON,BOB AND WEEVE UNDER WLADIMIRS JAB AND ONCE HE LANDS EVEN A HALF HEARTED SHOT ON WLDAIMIRS CHIN IT WILL BE NIGHT NIGHT. AS FOR VITALI HE IS A WARRIOR AND I THINK THE TOUGHEST FIGHTER HAYE IS LIKELY TO FACE HOWEVER IF HE DOES THE SAME BOB AND WEEVE HE WILL ALSO KNOCK OUT WLADIMIR, WHO IS AGEING SO COULD RUN OUT OF STEAM BY AROUND 9 AND THATS WHEN HAYE WILL LIKELY KNOCK HIM OUT. HAYE IS THE FUTURE FOR HEAVYWEIGHT BOXING AND EVERY BOXING EXPERT WANTS HAYE TO CLEAR UP TO SAVE THE DIVISION.
After watching a bunch of recent Klitschko fights i keep noticing something. Very rarely do i see the opponent getting on the inside. When he does he gets clinched or ( and both Klitschko’s do this well ) Klitschko steps back uses his height and paws the rest of the punches away. The other issue is the Klitschko jab. Wladimir possesses the better jab and uses it very very well. At times he simply barges it through his opponents guard and as he pulls back the jab the right hand is already on its way which shortens the window for the opponent to see the right hand coming.Simple but brutal, 1-2,1-2,1-2-3. I think the only way to defeat either of the brothers K is to get right on the inside and rip em with uppercuts and short right hands( They also struggle against guys that are near their height, which sort of levels the playing field). I would love to hear what a good trainer would say about getting inside against Wladimir or Vitali Klitschko and how to go about doing so.
Haye by knockoout. He’s too fast and too quick and is in shape. Speed kills and the Klitschkos are not use to fighting someone that’s in shape and is fast with his hands….
I think he would have a shot against Wlad, i doubt he would do much against the taller Vitali because he has a granite chin unlike his brother.
I remember watching the younger klitscho brother get koed by an average corry sanders of south africa. Can haye do it to? Sure why not.
