Vitali Klitschko vs. Nikolay Valuev on May 29th – News

By Erik Schmidt: World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (39-2, 37 KO’s) is looking to put together a bout against former WBA heavyweight champion Russian Nikolay Valuev (50-2, 34 KO’s) for May 2nd, according to the latest news from the boxing world. Klitschko, 38, wants the fight to take place at the large Schalke Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

The stadium has a seating capacity of 61,000, and this is the same place where Vitali’s younger brother, IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko last fought on June 20th against Ruslan Chagaev. The younger Klitschko was supposed to be facing David Haye in that fight, but Haye bowed out with an injured back. Valuev, 36, recently lost his WBA title to Haye in November, and is eager to get back in the ring and try and get win a title.

However, Valuev’s co-promoter is asking for $4 million for a fight against Klitschko, and that’s not a number that the Klitschko management can agree to. Valuev’s other promoter Kalle Sauerland thinks that they can work out a deal to make a fight happen against Klitschko. It certainly makes sense for Valuev’s promotional company to try to make negotiate for this fight.

Valuev will likely get a good payday because this is a fight that will sell big in Europe. And it will keep Valuev busy until he gets a rematch with Haye later on down the road. At 36, Valuev appears to have slipped a notch or two in terms of his skills in the past two years. Valuev is much better off facing Klitschko for a good payday than struggling against the top contenders for low pay and probably winding up getting beaten once or twice.

Vitali Klitschko recently defeated Kevin Johnson by a lopsided 12 round decision last December. Johnson fought a purely defensive fight, staying on the ropes for most of the bout, jabbing and covering up. Still, Klitschko beat him easily and was never really tested in the fight other than taking jabs to the face every now and then.

First of all vitali IS the best heavy weight for a few reasons. 1 he has never been knocked down, 2 he has the highest knockout percentage ever in the heavy weight division or in boxing, 3 his losses were because the fights were stopped, vitali was leading in his fight agains lennox Lewis n if he got another round he would of crushed him, with out the stopping of his fights tht were loses he would of been a cold stone knockout champion. You guys have to give credit to vitali, his fights may not be entertaning but they are effective.

  • the Professor says:

Holyfield vs. Vitali after that fight. Holyfield beat Valuev in a fight all 12 round in Valuev home town and Holyfield won the fight but not the Victory and that was some bull if you ask me. Well let’s be fair about this, Vitali want to fight Valuev, the same guy who lost to Holyfield in a 12 round decision. Holyfield wants Vital next for the Champion Title Belt.

Should be a good fight this , looking at the heavyweight division at moment it is one of the biggest match ups out there. Its not bowe-holyfield i admit !

dino vitali has never defended his title outside the top 10…vlad has done it once, against rahman, a former champ. then there’s brewster, zero defenses against top 10 when he had a title, ali fought flabby cruiserweights and bar room bouncers in his day–didnt spinks, a 190 pounder, have 10 fights when he beat ali…frazier defended against ron stander, a club fighter who had never fought in the top 20…patterson defended against an amatuer with no prof fights….there is a different standard for the k bros, either that or people have lopsided memories of the past

  • jack says:

that will be very interesting fight.don king should let this fight happen

  • El Pollacko Magnifico says:

This will truly be a fight to see. The only two heavyweights in history never to have ever been knocked down, face each other. Valuev’s fights have been boring because his opponents run away from him after they slap him in his face. If the original rules of boxing were in place where the fight continues until someone gives up or there is only one man standing, Valuev would probably be undefeated. Klithcko is almost as big with power. He will not run and they will both fight.

  • james mc says:

i dont see this fight being as easy for vitali as people may think, because vitali is use to controling fights with his size and jab,but valuev is much bigger than any1 vitali has faught,so i think it will be hard for him to find a decant game plan,i cant still see vital winning a competitive fight on points, but i dont think he will win by ko or tko.

  • Uncle Ewald says:

If a condescending fool the likes of Mr. David Haye is able to beat Valuev on the run so to speak one can only imagine what a first class boxer like Vitali Klitschko is capable of doing to this now over the hill giant. Valuev will be able to consider himself well-off to come out of the jam / fight with a TKO and a payday.
Although a fight between Vitali and big Nick would not be the worst of all possible matches a clash with David Tua or Oldanier Solis would be superior for the fans and boxing in general.

haye wants to fight valuev again next yr…vitali is trying to cut down on his running room……haye is reportedly in talks with bernard hopkins so is not looking for a real fight in the forseeable future…vlad has the 2 highest contenders tied up for this year….ranked 3 and 4….chageav vlad has beaten….doesnt leave much, he was at 6, and 5 haye isnt looking for a serious fight…the next highest ranked fighter is valuev….he has little to choose from

  • David says:

@KALEL i guess your a Haye fan Klitschko wants to prove Hes not ducking Haye but knocking out Valuev somethink Haye didnt do and somethink no one has done

  • KAL 'EL says:

Ohhhhh brother…. Another waste of time fight that will be on PPV…. Another bum a month opponent for Klitschko…

  • ZKO says:

    Whoop-tee-doooo. The Super-Heavyweights collide. (sarcasm)
