Vitali Klitschko makes final $2 million offer to Valuev – News

By Erik Schmidt: World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (39-2, 37 KO’s) and his management team have made their final offer to former two-time WBA heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev (50-2, 34 KO’s) of $2 million, according to the latest news. Apparently, the 36-year-old Valuev and his co-promoter Don King have a week to accept the offer or else Klitschko will move on and seek out another opponent for his next fight.

Klitschko offered $1 million originally to Valuev. However, Valuev’s promoter Don King asked for $4 million for his fighter. Klitschko’s management said that was a number that was too high and not in the ballpark for this fight.

The Valuev fight is easily the best fight for the 38-year-old Klitschko aside from a bout against WBA heavyweight champion David Haye. Vitali would like to face Haye immediately, but has to wait for Haye to fight his mandatory opponent John Ruiz on April 3rd. Provided that Haye gets by Ruiz, which isn’t a certainty given Haye’s close win over Valuev in November, then Klitschko can start working on possibly setting up a fight with the British heavyweight star.

Beyond a fight against Valuev, the top contenders in the WBC are a mixed bunch of older veterans and younger contenders with little star power or name recognition. Former 2004 Olympic super heavyweight Gold Medalist Alexander Povetkin is perhaps the best of the bunch, but he’s supposed to be facing Vitali’s younger brother, IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko. Povetkin is the number #1 mandatory for Wladimir’s IBF title.

6’6” Ray Austin is the number #1 contender for Vitali’s title. However, Austin is 39, and was already destroyed by Wladimir three years ago in a quick 2nd round knockout in March 2007. Austin has won four consecutive fights since then, albeit against mostly 2nd tier opposition. Odlanier Solis (15-0, 11 KO’s), a former 2004 Olympic heavyweight Gold Medalist for Cuba, is ranked #2 by the WBC. Solis has very fast hands and exceptional boxing skills. However, Solis has faced only one notable fighter during his three year pro career, 38-year-old fringe contender Monte Barrett, who he beat by a 2nd round knockout in October 2009.

The 6’1” Solis has battled weight problems since turning pro in 2007. In his most recent fight, Solis weighed a portly 271 for his bout against Barrett, which is an absurd number for a fighter of his height. As an amateur, Solis fought at 200. However, since turning pro, Solis’ weight has mostly been in the mid 250s. He still is fighting well despite weighing so much, but then again Solis has faced largely soft opposition in Germany.

Fedor? MMA? LMAO!!! Completely different sports. Do we really have to get into this for the millionth time? All you hicks who are turned on by big muscles, tattos, spiked hair, ring girls in bikini’s, pirotechnics, announcers screaming like WWF, watch UFC. If you want to see skilled athletes compete in the best and truest sport known to man, watch boxing.

ernesto, povetkin pulled out of the fight with vlad saying he needed more time to prepare…chambers lost heart in that fight, vitali never loses heart, he is cement-chinned, hard-punching. relentless, and is probably the strongest man to ever hold the title…thats usually enough

  • gorgo says:

Fedor would do it, believe me. Fedor doesnt goes to the UFC because the UFC dont make a fair deal. Fedor want only 3 Fight contracts and not such long with fix condition like UFC want make it.

They tested Mike Tyson for a mma fight and they saw that Mike Tyson became panic atacks when he is under a fighter on the ground. So they said to Mike that he never could make a mma fight, he is not able to fight in a cage.

  • Ukansodoff says:

Oh and i agree, a prime Mike Tyson won half his fights before the 1st bell, ive never seen so many giant muscle bound hard men shaking at the knees at the very sight of Iron Mike staring at them with hatred and hunger.

  • Ukansodoff says:

No Fedor wouldnt do that. MMA is a completely different game. And why aint Fedor getting picked up by UFC?

Yet again MONEY and CONTRACTS are getting in the way of SPORT. There should be no offers, no negotiations, Some governing body should split the cash how they see fit and what they say goes.

The baddest man on planet is without doubt Fedor Emelianenko, but i think you boxing fans dont know him. Fedor would smash every Boxer in less than 3 minutes. He also beat the four time K1 Grand Prix Champion Semmy Schlit, so he had no problems to kill the young Mike Tyson and also Vitali Klitschko in the same night.

  • perko says:

a lot of fellas must have missed tokyo feb 1990 , so called baddest man on planet got outboxed every round.

  • Ernesto says:

I think Povetkin is better than Haye and would to good for the old Vitali, because Vitali cant fight an attacking young Boxer who has enough cardio for twelve rounds. We had all saw that Vitali hasn t the best skills in the fight against Johnson. If Johnosn seriusly attacked Vitali at the end of the fight he had a great winnig chance. Povetkin would attack Vitali all the 12 Rounds and that why Wladimir dont want fight Povetkin since Jan 2008. He had prefered Chambers who was beaten by Povetkin and wait only few months. POVETKIN is today the best boxer, better than the Klitschkos and Haye.

MIKE TYSON IS THE ULTIMATE, HE WAS THE MOST FEARED BOXER IN HISTORY. GUYS WITH UNBEATEN RECORDS WOULD LOSE BEFORE GETTIN IN THE RING WITH HIM.
IN HIS PRIME NO ONE WOULD HAVE BEATEN HIM

  • the Professor says:

Mike Tyson was the baddest man on the planet hands down.

  • Oli says:

Klitchko v valuev….Probabaly the most boring fight of the last 75 years. Only in germany!

  • stu says:

$2m is an insulting low ball offer…especially as it’s gonna come with the klitschko’s standard rematch clause (“you beat me…we fight again…you beat me again…you fight my brother…you beat him…you fight him again”).

people forget how huge a market germany is…sven ottke made more money than roy jones jr.

  • brian says:

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. You know that the heavyweight division is on life support if valuev is offered $2 mill to fight.

  • Aquaman says:

“I was king” is in the past tense, “would kill every heavyweight mentioned in this article”, is
future tense. How do you reconcile those two ?

  • lex_fugitive says:

I didn’t know Don King was still around. At least King used to get big fights made, now Arum hoards all his stars not letting them fight anyone good.

  • Paul Mason says:

I agree with Mike Tyson, you are a legend and always will be. Your training video on you tube is an insperation to everyone. Mike tyson is the king of heavy weights and always will be.

  • ty says:

Vitaly should retire from no one to fight. I guess he could chase Austin around the ring.

  • Kdoggy says:

A 2 million dollar offer seems to be fair.Valuev is coming off a loss and is a very boring fighter. It would be interesting to see if Vitali could KO the 7 footer, after one of Klitschko’s beats Haye there is really nothing left in the Heavyweight Division. It is the worst Division in the sport of Boxing.

Wladimir Klitschko Vs Eddie Chambers on PPV is a joke and I thought Solis was going to be a serious contender but the guy is just too fat and too slow.
