Valero stops DeMarco, looks impressive

By Jim Dower: WBC lightweight champion Edwin Valero (27-0, 27 KOs) had little problems with WBC interim lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco (23-2-1, 17 KOs) tonight, wearing him down with monstrous shots and stopping him in the 9th round at the the Arena Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico. DeMarco tried trading shots with the powerful Valero in the opening rounds, but he was no match for the power shots that Valero was throwing. But mostly, DeMarco couldn’t keep up with the high punch volume that was coming from Valero all night.

Not only was Valero throwing nonstop punches, but he was putting a lot of power into each shot he would throw. In the later rounds, Valero showed some nice defensive movement to avoid some of DeMarco’s wild hooks. Valero looked very impressive, albeit gassed at times due to his high punch output. After the 9th round, the bout was stopped by DeMarco’s corner. He was hurt, tired and unable to fight back in the 8th and 9th rounds. Valero was cut on the forehead from an elbow from DeMarco in the 2nd, resulting in DeMarco being penalized a point.

this would be same as a floyd and pac fight, can and will a jab hold back a aggressive muti combination hybrid fighter,a half slugger half boxer, same as pac, nope not on your life, straight boxer are on their way out old school, going backward a boxers loses more power to his punches, that adding more to a boxer style of fighting on his toes which has little power to start with,
pac talent start with unreal feet work.not steroids, he on his toes to maneuver but when he punch he drops down to flat foot to get power,
power start with planting your feet down, then using yours legs on up to whole body to mentally punching through the target. velero and pac are also left handed they add angle punches and are hard to hit, their power left hand come to you from your right as their circle to they left, and its almost impossible to duck ,and if you are hit you go backward.

  • Bob says:

Marathon Your statement is dumb lets see what kind of balls you would have if you fought someone that hit as hard as Velero

  • Jalexander says:

Damn crazy valero would rock jmm world jmm got rocked buy high volume but soft punching Diaz not only that but in styles jmm is a slow starter the only way I c him winning is if he makes it to the later rounds cuz valero tends to punch himself out valero should heal his cut take a tune up fight and destroy jmm

  • arroyo grande bob says:

very impressed w/ valero. Anybody that brings an infant into the ring should lose. What a moron. We may see the beginning a new light in boxing that will take some of the attention off the current group. There are lots of potentiol match-ups, Marquez, Reyes, Guzman etc.

  • MarathonMan1 says:

I would pay to watch Valero. He was totally different then what I had seen earlier in his career. He has patients and best of all he has the mental stamina to box. Great for Boxing… Demarco could have won this fight but he forgot to bring his nuts. He quit? What a shame.

  • testicularfortitude says:

Great fight, a reaffirming and revealing fight…two or three more fights moving up in weight then bring on the pacman because uncle bob says so..

  • T Dogg says:

This was my first time seeing Valero in action, and he was very impressive against a very good fighter. I would love to see him fight against a bigger named fighter. 27-0 and 27 KO’s, he’s no push over thats for sure.

  • LeoNerd Elerbe says:

Valero is good and fights like the younger Pacquiao but, with 27-0 and 27 KO’s? Floydie says “He’s on PEDs, I’m the best.”

  • sal51 says:

the fight i would love would be juan manuel marquez vs edwin valero.

  • elloco says:

The Inca warrior is the real deal.

  • gazza says:

    valero should face paquio

  • Peter Wells says:

Valero deserves a good fight now he’s definatly the number 1 Lightweight though it would be a risk going to Light Welterweight so soon.

  • boxing fan says:

i actually never seen anyone on his ko’d opponents in the a-list of boxing!true test comes when you fought “cream of the crops” in boxing!he will never even pass jmm!pacquiao can knock him out inside 5 rounds!so do not put much of a hype unto it!

  • mario says:

The guy is 28!!! Is now or never bring the a few good names like maybe holt peterson diaz campbell

  • Anonymous says:

    :)

  • carlos says:

nooo valero is not ready for an elite fighter
soo dont try to say jmm or manny ok
yeah he is a great fighter but just not ready yet

  • Ancient_Silence says:

As predicted El Inca does it again!

  • Ukansodoff says:

Didnt get to see the fight yet, read up on it though and it sounds a cracker, fingers crossed i get to see it at some point.

Sounds like Valero is adding some much needed method to his madness which is good. His power is unquestionable to the better the opposition the harder it gets and to have a bit more to your game than just wild shots is needed the higher you go.

  • mario says:

Wow espn is reportin the results of this fight on tv!!! They hardly do it

  • TOM says:

HE DOESNT TAKE ROIDS ALL NATURALS
    , HE’S A BEAST WITH A MISSION AND A REALLY NICE GUY.

  • RMC says:

Cracking fight, and some big heart shown by Valero, I think what a lot of people are saying is true, in a lot of countries that cut would have caused the fight to be stopped. I also have to agree Valero impressed more than ever, showed he’s not just a one dimensional power puncher.

  • Anonymous says:

man this guy is on “a side” meth. I say the next time this guy fight he needs to get check rigorously. Olympic style random blood testing.

  • roy says:

valero like pac ,are a new type hybrid fighters, both left handed, and hard to hit, both of them are half a slugger and half and a boxer, they can jab, hook and uppercut to take you out with the same right hand, and a left as back up, both have a angle uppercut with both hands a extra surprise, a regular boxer is old school now. after the fight they say I don’t know where the punches are coming from anymore, same thing going to happen tp floyd he the last good boxer.

  • ART SA BOXING EXPERT says:

im glad this fight wasnt in the U S because they would have stopped it with that huge gash!

  • mario says:

Nasty cut in the usa that would had been a stoppage!! In the uk they would had stopped it after the 4 but in mexico lol let him bleed it out

  • Karlito says:

Let’s start the movement valero vs Marquez for the light weight crown. Would be one hell of a war

  • Lee says:

Everyone was capping on Valero and predicting that he would be exposed for not not having a sound defense. I’m ashamed to say that I sorta bought into it. He came out and showed some slickness. Punches are still a bit wide but wow…didn’t expect him to show that kind of performance tonight. I actually thought he was going to wilt after that huge cut. Haters have to admit, you didn’t expect to see good defense and some decent boxing from Valero.

  • Mike Hawk says:

it looked like if demarco actually wanted to fight it would have been one hell of a fight.

ide really really like to see valero vs soto, or juan diaz.

  • lebron says:

wow valero with a 2 inch gash on his forehead showed tremendous heart and boxing skills giving demarco a complete lesson in the ring. thought this guy was just a wild puncher but he showed a lot of skill and speed in the ring tonight hes got great potential. hes a warrior.
