Tony Jeffries Appears On Let’s Dance

TONY JEFFRIES swaps the ring for the dance floor on Saturday night when he appears on Let’s Dance for Sports Relief (7.15pm BBC1). Sunderland’s Olympic bronze medallist joins WBC super-middleweight champion Carl Froch and former world title holders Duke McKenzie and Johnny Nelson in the boxing team. Jeffries, 24, has spent this week in London practising for his big night and expects to be nervous. He said: “I have loved every minute of this week practising with Duke. Carl and Johnny have been getting ready in Nottingham, but I’m sure we will all do well on the night..

“There were eight million viewers tuned in for the first episode and I know I would rather box in front of eight million people than dance. It will be pretty nervous knowing that many people are at home watching.

“Although it is a bit of fun, myself and the other lads want to win the competition and hope the public vote us into next month’s final.”

Jeffries (6-0) is still recovering from a hand injury, but will be back in full training next week and boxes on promoter Frank Maloney’s super show at Coventry Skydome on April 23.

‘Jaffa’ has now quit his Manchester training base and moved back home to Sunderland to be nearer his family.

He said: “It must be a pain for my trainer Bobby Rimmer travelling back and forth to Manchester, but I am much happier.

“When I was an amateur away from home, I was part of a team and there was a group of lads together to ease the boredom.

“When I was in Manchester I had a nice place to live, but I was by myself a lot of the time.”

Top of the bill in Coventry is Rendall Munroe’s WBC world super-bantamweight final eliminator against Mexican star Victor Terrazas.
