Roach on Floyd’s style and gameplan for Mayweather-Pacquiao

By Trife James: Yes, this fight is dead in the water for now, but I recently read an article from Freddie Roach breaking down the style of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and what makes him the unbeaten fighter he is today.
Roach went on to say: “Do we have to be ready for all of it? Yes. It’s going to be a real, real, mental fight, and this is 100 per cent the biggest challenge Manny Pacquiao has ever faced, I don’t think anyone trains Mayweather. He was born to fight. It is in his blood, there are not a lot of weaknesses in his game. It has to be a special 36 minutes from Manny. We have to fight the perfect fight.”
Roach was also asked about whether he thinks the fight will ever happen he said: “I think it will happen. It’s good for boxing, it is good for the world. If it doesn’t happen, we might go back into a recession in boxing again, because it is the fight which is anticipated. The public wants to see it, and I want to see it too.”
I for one hope this fight can be made. They need to sort out the big blood testing issue because if Pacquiao gets past Joshua Clottey which he will and Floyd beats Shane Mosley which I also think he will then it still leaves both fighters needing to sort out the blood testing in order for this fight to happen. Whether they can do this we’ll have to wait and see. But for the time being lets enjoy Pacquiao-Clottey and Mayweather-Mosley, both are good fights but I think we’ll all agree Mayweather-Mosley is the more competitive and more anticipated.

my bet would be if the fight ever happens is that it would be a draw forcing a rematch and making them and all parties involve a lot of money, then watch them walk away from boxing for good.
Pacquiao won’t have a chance…to small for one…mayweather has 5 inch reach advantage…he won’t be sitting target like hatton, de la hoye, and cotto…if i had nickle every time someone says mayweather is a petty pat punch with no power then to only hear them after the fight say he hits a lot harder than i thought…they would call me “Money”

To beat Manny in a match, Floyd will have to trade with him blow for blow and that will open him up for punishment. To make matters worst Manny throws punches from weird angles with deceptive power. The first knock down of Cotto was a short hook that came after two punches in a combination that Manny had actually missed. Manny will miss a lot against Mayweather but he will eventually find his target. The judges gave Oscar the benefit of the doubt in his fight with Floyd on punches that may or not have been landing flush. One judge even scored the fight for Oscar because he was forcing the action in fight. So even if Manny misses some shots the judges may give him points because of the reaction of the fans and his aggresiveness. I don’t see Pacman being timid like Marquez becuase Manny knows he can hurt Floyd with any shot. Floyds best bet is to stay off the ropes, but Manny has shown he can KO opponents in the center to. My prediction is Pacman in 8 round tko and Floyd retires again with nothing else to prove.
May has never fought anyone as good as pac, he’d get caught on the jaw eventually and that would be that…hope we all get to see it happen pretty soon cause boxing sure as hell needs it.
The only way Manny can get his name in the media is to mention Floyd Mayweather’s name. Its really getting pathetic. The supposed p4p can’t even get his name or upcoming fight mentioned unless he talks about the true #1 p4p fighter.
Their gameplan will be the same gameplan they’ve always had, to use Roids and PEDs. with that pacman is unstoppable
Who here thinks Mayweather can actually hurt Manny? Outbox him sure, but do you think he can hurt, stun, knock down, or knock out Manny?
The answer is “NO”. The second Manny loses respect for Floyd’s punching power, the fight will hit a crossroads, because Manny will become very aggressive, and less respectful.
That is the moment where Floyd and Manny will prove themselves. Only one can make it out of that scenario the victor.
Will it be the slick fighter who has to adjust to a torrent of activity he’s never really faced? Or will the aggressor expose the hidden chin and brittle bones of the former P4P king?

I really do agree that Mayweather is an amazing fighter but as some of you have already said, it would be great to see how he reacts to having constant pressure whilst being hit with big power shots. I would love to see Pacquiao drop him in the first round and then win on points.
aptly said mr. roach. they should both win their next fights and treat us to a meeting at the summit. one thing is for certain, no one can question the exceptional learning curve of pacman. after being out boxed by morales he pretty much became an all around better fighter and and even smart fighter. look at the cotto fight for example, you can see pacman taking the first few rounds to size up cotto, test his power and sort of test what type of attack would work against him. i think i saw several faints and “test” swings to figure cottos good defense. and once pacman had his game plan in practice he banged his gloves together and it was on! the rest was history.
with mayweather, pacman would have to replay rounds one and two of cotto for the entire fight. i just don’t see mayweather getting hit as much as cotto, nor do i see pacman figuring him out as fast. cotto was willing to mix it up early in the fight and it cost him dearly. everyone knows mayweather dont mix it up, nor does he make many mistakes. we saw cotto run after the knockdowns and with manny hot on his ass he was able to miraculously survive almost the entire fight. maywether will move, or run if you like, but with a much different look. he will use straight rights, jabs to the body to make manny think and of course that left hook as manny comes in. remember hatton looked ok chasing mayweather around until he got hit with that check hook.
i like both fighters but in the end, my money would be on mayweather. i think it will a close fight, closer than a lot of people will expect. i think that manny will win some decent rounds but mayweathers movement and overall talents will see him through a 12 round decision.

Okay now I see you are a straight up Pacman fan and think the world of him. This tells me why you are so bias and blinded. You will be in for an extreme wake up call if this fight actually happens. I promise you. I like both fighters but I know that Manny only has the punchers chance going for him in this fight. He has a much better chance beating Mosley because Mosley will trade with him. Mosley does not believe anyone is strong then him. Hey, that’s the same reason Manny took all those shots from Cotto. He stood there because he wanted to prove something. PBF will not trade and get caught like Cotto. When Cotto began to move and box, Manny was fustrated. PBF definitely saw that just like we all did.
Manny would destroy Mayweather. He’s far too busy; Mayweather would tire from all the preassure. The body shots would take their tole on pretty boy too, ‘cos he has a fragile body, hence him avoiding Cotto all these years.
Manny would shock the world – it would be more one sided than the Cotto bout.
But, it’s not going to happen. Neither will Mayweather-Mosley. Mayweather and his family are cowards.

Freddie has a game plan? Just like he had one for Oscar? Pre fight planning is Freddie Roach strong suit. During the fight its going to be a different challenge. MoWhether Manny fights Floyd or Shane, Manny will need a plan A B C and so on. Good way to be positive Freddie…..
