Pacquiao vs. Clottey: What happens if Joshua gives Manny a savage beating?
By Dave Lahr: Not much has been said about the possibility that WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao could lose and lose big to former IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey. After all, Pacquiao is little, and has been put in with a number of fading fighters in the past five years. And even recently, Pacquiao’s opponents have been fighters that were struggling at the time that he fought them. It would be fair to say that other than Pacquiao’s fight against Juan Manuel Marquez in 2008, the last real challenge Pacquiao had was when he fought Erik Morales for the first time in 2005.
Additionally, Clottey hasn’t faced a lot of top fighters during his career without losing to them. Even Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach says that Clottey isn’t that good of a fighter. But still, Clottey is bigger than Pacquiao, and sturdier than Pacquiao victims Cotto, De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton in the chin department. Clottey also is a good fighter, at least for the first four rounds. Clottey is basically a good four round fighter. After the 4th round, Clottey quickly fades to the point where he seems to resemble a big punching bag on the ropes.
However, I think Clottey might fight above his usually mediocre performances in facing Pacquiao because of what will likely be a huge crowd in the Dallas Cowboy Stadium. We don’t know how Clottey will respond to fighting in front of that many fans, but I’m guessing it’s going to make him a lot more dangerous than he’s looked in years.
At the same time, Pacquiao and his team appear to be a little cocky with their success in the past year. I think they see the Clottey fight as an easy one. I think Pacquiao is going to go right at Clottey with his in and out attacks. But in this case, I think Clottey will be able to hurt the smaller Pacquiao by timing him and nailing him with left hooks to the head as he comes in.
Say what you want about Pacquiao’s great skills, but he’s damn predictable with his in and out attacks. He comes forward throwing his right hook all the time. Since he learned how to throw that punch, it’s almost his main weapon. Clottey just has to make sure he blocks that shot and then fire Pacquiao up with left hooks.
Pacquiao has a great left hand, but even if he lands it, Clottey will take it without any problems. But if Clottey starts hitting Pacquiao with his big shots, I can see it shaking up the small fighters and start causing him problems. Like I said, Pacquiao fought a ton of fading or recently beaten up fighters in the past five years, and for Pacquiao, Clottey, as badly flawed as he is, he still presents a big step up from the likes of Cotto, Hatton, Morales, De La Hoya, Jorge Solis, Marco Antonio Barrera, David Diaz and Hector Velazquez.
Those fighters are who Pacquiao has been dining on in the past five years, and I think Clottey is clearly better than those guys at this stage in his career. That’s not to say that those fighters weren’t at one time better than Clottey, because some of them were. But by the time that they were matched with Pacquiao, I think all of them were the equivalent of a lion without many of his teeth or claws remaining. I think Clottey if he can fight hard for at least seven rounds, he’ll beat the stuffing out of Pacquiao and put himself in position to either stop Pacquiao or earn a close decision.

@USMC,
Pacquiao must fight:
1) Mayweather
2) Mosely
3) Bradley
4) Williams
5) Berto
OR RETIRE!!! BIATCH!
To all you’s!… All Pacquiao has to do is show up to any fight and do his best from here on out. If there were any Black-Americans “dominating” (and I do mean DOMINATING) the lower wieght classes when Pac was fighting in them, I’m sure he would’ve been forced to fight them…dont ya think? Now that he’s fighting 147 of course the opposition is stronger and more competitive for him, but so far he still prevails right??? At least he’s a little man going up against bigger men beit Mexican/Black or whatever…and not a bigger man beating up smaller guys ala Mayweather and Williams! Mayweather and Williams are two of the most talented fighters out there who refuse to test themselves, thats why they are not in the “GREAT FIGHTERS” category. Williams should be at supermiddle or higher, he probably has to eat 1 peice of Cheerios a day to make 147 and 154 1bs…and you all say he should fight Pacquiao??? Come on! Clottey is a great fight for Pacquiao to stay active and I think he can keep it competitive or maybe an upset (probably not). The real fight is Pacquiao vs. Mayweather and I’ll state it again for ya, Pacquiao would still be the smaller Man…so why all the hold up with blood test? Pac has never even been close to any allegation, a charge, an accusation or a suspicion of PED’s.
@Boston Red Head: Dude, STOP! Your making yourself look stupid. Mayweather of all the people tyou have listed has ducked Pacquiao, Bradley is a light welterweight so unless he is willing to come up in weight, it can happen, Berto had a contract with Mosley. These are all top names, you expect Pacquiao to take on anyone of them. Pacquiao just came into the division, Mayweather has been in this division for over 5 years and has not fought a name in your list. Instead he fought a lightweight, Making Marquez come up 2 weight divisions then cheated Marquez at the weigh-in by coming in two pounds over the limit.
Pinoys…The time has come! Pacquiao MUST fight this group…Period!
1) Mayweather
2) Mosely
3) Bradley
4) Williams
5) Berto
Pacquiao’s next opponents just happen to be African American thats all. These fights are MANDATORY for Pacquiao. The tournament winner gets all honors.
“What happens if Joshua gives Manny a savage beating?”
I think lil ol davey boy lahr wets her pants in excitement as her dream of finally seeing a defeated pacquiao comes true.
davey will be huggin marquez’ ba*ls so tight he wont let go of it ever again.
Who’s boxer of the decade???????? That’s right…..IT’S PACQUIAO, not some no name African American who happens to be American, active in boxing, holds or has held titles, and again an American ( award-giving bodies are comprised of Americans, LOL). Boston redhead, hear that. Were those black dudes you listed even considered? Oh yah…maybe KFC was but no one else. Considered but not deemed worthy by his own countrymen. Black does not not mean a good boxer. Sorry. Hahahahahah.
@Boston Red Head: Also, Mayweather was already a welterweight when Pacquiao was fighting in the lower weight class. Do your homework.
@Boston Red Head: Nice list of boxers, too bad Mayweather has not fought any one of them yet and Mayweather has been a welterweight for over 5 years.
Pac is a fast fighter, who throws his hands fearlessly. That being said, he will be predictable to a thinking fighter, like Marquez or Mayweather. Clottey is a cautious fighter, but, I have not seen him really figure anybody out, during the course of a fight. So, he will, as predicted, do his peek-a-boo thing. He has a good jab, straight right hand, and can bang inside pretty well. But, he doesn’t put it all together, in a strategic fashion. In other words, he doesn’t have a slick, fluid style. Pac will have to stick to Roach’s gameplan though. If he tries to do his own thing and test Clottey’s power, like he did with Cotto, he may get rocked. But, if he gets in and out and takes advantage of Clottey’s lack of stamina, down the stretch, he should win an easy UD.
Clottey is not a bad matchup. But, this fight does not prepare Pac for the style of a slick, smart fighter like Mayweather. As Boston mentioned, he has not faced the type of fighters that would prepare him for that type of fighter. Generally, African fighters are not known for having the slickness of their African-American counterparts.
Clottey has a lot of experience fighting Southpaws. He’s very good at it. Manny is wide open during his flurries, and is HIGHLY prone to one of Clotteys right uppercuts. All he has to do is land one flush, and Pacquiao could easily be counting sheep.
$100 on a Clottey win pays $430. Its worth 1 or 2 hundred.
This is an uphill battle for Clottey with the judges simply because of Pac’s speed and activity level (everyone who fights Pac has will have to battle the judges AND Pac because of this).
But, Clottey is a VERY live underdog and should definitely NOT be a 3.5/4:1 underdog (and, I’m sure these odds will rise in Pac’s favor as the fight draws near).
@Drex, Floyd Mayweather jr.
Boston redtard no 1 get Packedin fan 2 losers.
can anyone name any good african american during pacquiao reign in flyweight, featherweight and super featherweight.
i agree that beating david diaz was a cherry pick, nevertheless no one here can name any lightweight that could give the same beating that pacman did to dela hoya during that time.
Yo Pacnuts…I put Campbell on the list to give Pacquiao someone to be competitive with. All of the others would take Pacquioa’s as and hand it back to him.
@Tres-Pacnut, thing for black guys? Yep, I want Pacquiao to fight them.
Pacquiao is an average fighter until he faces the African Americans that make up the elite in boxing. If he had to face them early on, he would now be trying out for a role as a munchkin in the remake of the Wizard of Oz.
Your title is a question and yet a conditional statement…but your article is against Pacquiao. Again, bias boxing article.
clottey wont beat pacman bob arum wont let him even if he could, seeing how both fighters are represented by him and arum makes more money on pacman.
Nobodys giving Mayweather a pass, but right now we’re talking about Pacquiao.
Pacquio doesn’t face alot of slick boxers, and that explains why he hasn’t faced the guys or won’t face the guys you listed. Comeforward fighters is his strength and he’s going to stick to do what works.
so sad to read everyone want to give floyd a pass when it comes to his caliber of fighters but then say that manny would get busted up by an african american fighter. there is just sooo much wrong with your arguments, its pathetic. manny fought the best fighters in his weight divisions. just so happens that they are all mexican! you wanted him to fight CAMPBELL!?!??! the dude is 80 and nobody had heard of him until he beat diaz AFTER pac was on his way up. it’s just so sad that the race card gets played. i hate to say it but being african american DOESN’T make you a better fighter! how about you just fight the BEST and not worry about skin color. when floyd picked a midget to fight (marquez) why dont you question how he picked a small mexican when there were so many more talented african americans out there?
Boston Red Head lol, dude I can’t help but to laugh. But the truth can’t be denied lol, Pac has had all these fights, but not one Decent African-American fighter. Arum has did a great job at cherry picking his opponents as of lately, but its crunch time now, the only options for him are the big boys Floyd, Shane, Berto and the true elephant in the room Paul Williams.
Boston Red Head, Pac is not about to fight no great and talented African-American fighters lol, quit scaring people lol. Pac resume does not have one single great/good African-American fighter on it, not one.
Dude, nobody has to discredit Clottey, you have to have valid credentials in order to be discredited, and Clottey does not have good credentials. Learn boxing and fighers before you say stupid things in a public forum dude, not a good look for you at all.
@Mansterr, noones dicrediting Pacquiao for fighting Clottey. The thing is, he’d better KO him in the first minute of the first round or he has no leverage vs. Mayweather or Floyd. He’d better not touch the canvass at all, or it is O V E R!!!!
Pacquiao’s next fight better come from this group:
1) Mayweather
2) Mosely
3) Bradley
4) Williams
5) Berto
6) Campbell
Fugettabout Margarito…Mosely already busted him up!
No Different than how you Pac fans are. You try to say Pacquiao has this incredible resume, and down Floyds resume when Pacquaio fought many of the same fighters after Floyd did.
All I want is for Pacquiao to fight some fighters that are on the way up, or at the peak of their boxing skill careers. Not the ones that are busted up, war weary, forward plodding, gunshot, that can see out of only one eye and hear out of only one ear.
He has no choice but to begin fighting African American fighters.
Some of you guys are funny
Some ridicule Pac for picking a bum like Clottey and that he, once again, is avoiding the best competition.
Then others are like, “ooh watch out Pac cause Clottey is a beast”.
It looks like you guys got all your hater bases covered.
All of you moronic pacman fans better pray Manny is prepared to fight cause this is the fight clottey has been waiting for his whole career. He’s going to be more dangerous then ever after the fight Manny is going to regret fighting him
What if Clottey gives Pac a savage beating? Then this must be the fight of the century. Not to miss.
Dave Liar again! Sour loser. You wish so many things against the Pacman whoever he fights. Everyone that Pacquiao fought are not good fighters anymore from your lousy perspective. Now, I tell everyone here that when Pacquiao beats Clottey on March 13. Dave Liar will still say that Pacquiao had beaten a not so good fighter like Clottey. Whoever Pacquiao beats, will not even convince Dave Liar that Pacquiao is the best P4P boxer, best boxer of all time, best boxer of the decade, and 7 division champion (as of now). Dave Liar will always be like this as a lousy writer. Bet you, he is just looking and excited to pounce on that loss of Pacquiao – but will frustrate him all his life because it will never happen.
aint going to happen, whats happens when Pacquiao destroys Clottey, what happens when Pacquiao destroys Mayweather. He will be as great as he is now but should have all these idiots downing him all the time.
Your man talks about the possibility of Clottey catching Pac comung in having already stated that he is not a counter puncher??
We all know that Pac isn’t illusive and can be caught but he also has a solid chin whilst Clottey can’t be considered much more powerful than Cotto and to have obvious stamina problems against Pac is not good.
I see Pac overwhelming him late on and forcing a stoppage,he’ll want to be the first to stop Clottey and ram Floyd’s p4p claim up his arse.
clottey is going to get destroyed
You Pac fans better hope Manny Pacquiao fares well in this fight. Manny has no choice but to KO Clottey in 39 seconds of the first round. Should Manny’s ass touch the canvass just once, Pacquiao loses ALL negotiation leverage with Mayweather or Mosely for that matter.
Whichever fighter Manny faces, Mosely or Mayweather, they will take Manny’s ass and hand it back to him.
I can see it now, after Manny takes that ugly defeat, there will be sounds of scurrying like the munchkins in the Wizard of Oz.
Then the boxing sites will be so quiet you could here Mississippi crickets.
I bet this guy loves mayweather. If the solution to Pacman was as simple as left hooks he would have lost to coto and marquez this guy doesnt know jack about boxing. its going to be a tuff fight for pacman but mot for any of these reasons. clotey is a strong tall fighter who will use his height and reach to his advantage. also clotey isnt known for having a great left hook, he throws straight punches down the pipe and has solid defense which is going to give manny problems.
So what an addition to the loss, there is always a risk of loosing in a competition.I’m not betting that he will lose.
@ writer,
Did you predict Pacman to win over DLH?
Over Hatton?
Over Cotto?
If so, then you are right, you know what you are talking about, or You are a die hard Pacman fan.
If this writer called Clotty soft or beaten up fighter, then I can call Mosley a past his prime boxer.
@Boston,
Are you willing to bet your $430 for my $100? Iam game if you are. Just shut up and get it on…
i hope youre right mansterrr, i dont wanna spend 60 bux to see pac punch a heavy bag
YOU PAC-MAN FLUNKIES NEED TO REALIZE THAT MANNY CAN GET HIS ASS KICKED LIKE ANY OTHER FIGHTER.. CLOTTEY WILL MAKE PAC LOOK A LOT WORSE THAN HE HAS IN A LONG TIME.. I LIKE MANNY AS A FIGHTER & I APPRECIATE HIS WILLINGNESS TO SHOW HIS TALENT AGAINST MANY OF THE TOP FIGHTERS, BUT IF HE DOES GET BY CLOTTEY (THAT’S A NICE SIZED IF) FLOYD MAYWEATHER OR SHANE MOSELY WILL BREAK HIS LIL ASS OFF SOMETHING PROPER… EITHER ONE OF THEM WILL GIVE IT TO HIM RAW… MANNY’S BRAVE, BUT HE’S NOT STUPID…. SO C’MON YOU LIL FLUNKIES, LET’S START THIS UP ABOUT HOW PAC MAN CAN’T LOSE & ETC…..
Wow it seems most of you missed the authors point, he said what if? Why is it that pacfans get so defensive when anyone suggest a posibility of something not working out in his favor? I think there is some merit to his column and he has some valid points. The truest saying in boxing is styles make the fight, and all that means is you have a favorite and an underdog in every fight, don’t assume that the favorite is always going to win. Clottey nearly knocked cotto out in their matchup most people don’t remember that, but it was his inability to finish off cotto that cost him a victory. So a clottey victory is not out of the question, but it’s highly unlikely he will destroy pacquio because he does not throw enough punches.
It’s possible. Remember most analysts didn’t give Pac a chance against DLH and Hatton. Some have come to the extent of retiring from writing articles if Manny beats Cotto. But you can’t take the “Fighter of the Decade” award from him. Fighter of the Decade man. The decade when there’s FMJ, DLH and others. He’s already cemented his legacy as one of the GOAT’s. We just have to enjoy a few more of his fights that’s in store for us.
This writer claiming pacquiao defeated washed up boxers is BS. First fight with barrera he wasn’t washed up. Second fight with morales he wasn’t washed up bc morales defeated pacquiao in first fight. Don’t you think pacquiao should be washed up after fighting bigger boxers? Pacquiao is admired by seagal and denzel washington so don’t give me this washed up BS! Pacquiao earned p4p whether you like it or not!
Pacquiao will win this fight in five to six
Cruz,
Fosho, just checked them out. You’re a bad bad man hahaha. What 5′ 10” 160lb? Well you look tall in the videos.
Fair comment from David…at least you are trying to balance the scales..or trying to make it look that way.. we’ve all seen your previous articles on this fight…I believe Clottey will be leading by the 7th or 8th round..it’s how he takes the remaining rounds that matters most. If he can keep the momentum we may see a rare and unexpected spectacle unfold
wowzabean
Im that same guy that told you to check my youtube videos out.
Cruz,
Absolutely, that’s his greatest edge. If you know what’s coming, and you don’t see it! Then you’re in a heap of trouble. That’s how counter punchers, ala PBF, get knock outs. It’s not because of power, it’s because of a punch you don’t see. Now add that to a 4-6 punch combination you can’t see………. you tell me the end result.
wowzabean
You forgot to mention Manny’s ability to go on angles, Right hook to the body, left uppercut up the middle etc etc etc…. Manny throws every punch in the book and from different angles. Not to mention the overwhelming punching output, conditioning, and endurance are just a few things of his arsenal.
Pacquiao is too powerful not to be on steroids? Did you know that the Army’s standard pistol the colt 45 was created specifically to shoot down the Filipino guerillas during the Philippine-AMerican war? The pistol in use then could not stop the Filipinos. Check it out in the internet for authenticity. The Malayan race, which the Filipinos are mostly comprised of, is a very powerful race. Manny is a powerful Malay. He doesn’t need steroids.
then it’ll be mayweather that will hurt most
Have the balls to bet against Pacman come fight night! Man-up and not just pretend that you have the better analysis and demean Manny. If your are so sure about his predictability then go ahead a bet against Manny! All the boxers that have faced him thinks that he is beatable, predictable, does not move his head, bla bla bla…. and yet after the fight they still cannot figure out what happened. It is usually easier said than done.
then it will be mayweather that will hurt most
it’ll be mayweather that will hurt most.
then it’ll be mayweather that will hurt most. All the “i should haves” (regrets) will be said.
@Boston Red Hair…why not bet all your money to Clottey, uh uh uh….don’t forget to include your lover Dave Lahr. bwahahahah
Pacquiao is the man on top right now even over Mayweather. Manny is the guy everyone wants to beat. Manny calls the shots wether you like it or not. He is a good guy and an amazing fighter. Mayweather is a clown and the only reason he thinks Manny is on PED’s is because Manny is just to great. Manny is a whole level on top of Floyd and Manny knows this. Thats why in other words Manny is saying “F U Floyd, when you willing to lose, come see me.” But Manny is to humble to say it that way.
Cruz,
Well not to defend Lahr, the last thing I’d do, he’s half right. What you’ll notice about a lot of the posters and Pac-hater writers is that they speak in half truths. Pacquiao is in a way “predictable.” He has in and out movement and a strong left straight, now he can try to get you w/his right hook. He tries to get in and out, basically all he does. But what these so-called “sports writers” don’t see, or care to write about for that matter, is that w/Pacquiao’s blinding speed and 4-6+ punch combinations, even if you know it’s coming your f*cked.
He’s too fast, and to add to that too strong. So even though once he gets in for an in-fight, you have an idea what’s coming, if the body can’t respond it doesn’t matter. Athleticism at its finest. Hatton is a perfect example, he knew what Pacquiao was going to do, and trust me that didn’t matter.
boston youre so right, mannys been dodging black fighters since ledwaba. He must think theyre only worth sparring with. This article is great, no weird speculation, and just wonderful objective insight. keep it up dave lahr, youre the the best writer ever. floyds great too, boxer that is. somebody better warn pacman about clottey once you go black you never go back. go dave lahr!
How can the writer say pacquiao is predictable, he must be a little ignorant towards boxing. Pacquiao clearly blinds you with speed and his opponents can hardly see where shots are coming from. How can you predict punches you dont see coming? Im surprised lot’s of people still have’nt seen greatness in Pacquiao.
Reading boxing blogs like this website, you may think that many people discredit Pacquiao, but the fact of the matter is there are very few people out there that think Pacquiao hasn’t stepped up. The haters are a vast minority, and this site may give tunnel vision. Pacquiao fans outnumber Floyd fans greatly no matter what anyone says.
Oh wait I must correct my last post, “What happens if Mosley gives Mayweather a SAVAGE beating?” This guy is truly a biased writer, even with the titles of his articles.
@ boston crab hair
You must be ricky hatton pretending…..loser…loser
Lahr,
Accept the fact that Pacquiao is really good. You just can’t face the truth that he is good. Today is his time so just accept that fact.
Be realistic and fair.
Whats the difference between fighting an African Black versus an American Black ? The’re genetically built the same….
Floyd is just one hell of scared of Pacman…proven facts
that you cant deny !
Its pathetically funny and hilarious that before almost every fight that Pacman did he was always made the underdog…that
his opponents and are always “bigger and stronger than him”… that the betting odds did not always favor him…the so-called experts really thought hes going over his head (lol) in fighting “superior” fighters in their prime, etc, etc, etc
BUT Pac always showed them wrong and beat the crap out of them one by one and one by one he retired them all…suddenly the critics and Pac haters found a excuse….they say that he won because they were all “washed up” and all were ” has been” and were “already beaten” prior to fighting them…BUT they are talking about the same fighters that were “superior” and “bigger” fighters just before the fight with Pacman…GO FIGURE !!
Dave Lahr: I have the title for your next article, “What happens if Mosley knocks out Mayweather?”
True that vinny, last I checked Clottey isn’t Mexican or Puerto Rican, but I guess you have to be African AMERICAN right? Sad argument. BWAA said it best, get your facts checked.
I thought Clottey beat Cotto. This will be a competitive fight for Manny. No more one sided fights from here on out. This will be interesting…
Simon,
I agree all around. I think Valero is a bit overrated though IMO. He swings way too wide, he needs to compact his shots, plus he doesn’t seem to have punching power. DeMarco was eating his shots all night. If he can pick up punching power, tighten up his shots and improve over time then maybe. Only time can tell.
Boston,
He was going to fight the “best” Black fighter out there, but the boy ducked, can’t blame him, I would have too.
If you are all so concerned that Pac isn’t fighting black fighters or African-Americans. Pac is fighting the blackest fighter out there, a true African. Clottey is African and he has legit skills as a welterweight. I am willing to be that Pac vs Clottey is going to be more exciting then PBF vs Mosley. With that said, I will still watch PBF vs Mosley because I’ve been waiting for that matchup for a while. Hope to see Pac vs Mosley in the future, that will be a non-stop action fight coming from both fighters.
“Pacquiao … has been put in with a number of fading fighters in the past five years.” This is so very true. But you are branded a Pacquiao-hater if you bring this up.
Pac is an exciting fighter to watch. What a rush you get watching him beat on has-been geriatrics. LOL.
I’ll tell you what will happen if he loses to Clottey, he loses leverage in any negotations in a fight with Mayweather. The same can be said if Mayweather loses to Mosley. The first time PBF fights a legit WW and he loses, Mayweather would also lose any kind of leverage in any negotiations with Pacquiao or may even lose out on a fight with Pacquiao.
This writer says Pacman fought washed up fighters?
The only thing sure is, this writer is a washed up writer. He knows how to type but does not use his brain first to analyze what he is writing. Well, can’t teach an old dog new tricks.
cotto is not mexican (sub zero) dont you watch boxing
@BRH
1. FLoyd had a chance to fight Pac – he ducked Pac;
2. Mosley will be next if he beats the ducker Floyd;
3. Bradley is a no name fighter;
4. Williams, he is a misplaced fighter. He should fight his weight class.
5. Valero will take over when Pac retires.
Here’s the truth: For now Pac is the King and the Ruler.
just another pacman hater
Boston Red Head is a family members of Mayweathers. So guys ignore this pathetic liar. Get a life LOSER!
Boston Red Head @want to see manny owned a 200 +lb black bubba ? copy and paste this. start 1/4 in as it is long.paste this in goggle
Manny Pacquiao Sparring EXTREME Part 1
Whatever at Boston Red Neck! Pacman is the Best Fighter of the Decade! Ask it to the Marines. Go and get a life or go back to Ireland where you originally belong!
david, who cares if you wake up tomorrow no one stop these ifs and butts
Dammit, prove me wrong! Tell your boy to fight AFRICAN AMERICAN FIGHTERS!!!!
Should he walk through them, I will be on board with him. Until then, he is just make believe for all of you!
Boston red head by the time this year plays out your going to look like the idiot you are. keep talkin. time will pass.
Sorry bud, I’m 100% Irish. Got the Red hair to prove it. I have nothing against Asians. I just don’t like trumped up make belive fighters that refuse to fight African Americans. They have proven to be the most skilled, and talented. Pacquiao has NEVER fought 1!
Isn’t that peculiar to you?
Boston,
That explains it, your black and you’re just a hater against asians. STFU stop hating. You’re boy Money isn’t fighter of the decade and he’s been cherry pickn’ like a mother since he entered the WW division. If he wasn’t forced to fight Mosley you wouldn’t say d!ck.
Fighter of the decade? Do you really believe that? Pinoys, Pacquiao must fight brothers before he can even think about that!
No way your midget can even be in the top 5 if he begins fighting the brothers.
Fighter of the decade…What a joke!
Mayweather
Mosely
Bradley
Williams
And yes…Valero can beat your midget…
Fighter of the decade…Give me a break clowns!
Yo Nate, let me give you some names:
1) Mayweather
2) Mosely
3) Bradley
4) Williams
5) Valero since Pacquiao likes fighting latinos
Tell your boy, “No more beat up, war weary, busted down, fading, forward plodding, slow punching Mexcans”!
Forget about the cheater Margarito! Mosely has already busted him up!
PACQUIAO MUST FIGHT AFRICAN AMERICAN FIGHTERS!
PACQUIAO, YOU CAN’T RUN FROM THEM ANYMORE!
@pacidiot
YOURE REALLY AN IDIOT !
Boston Red Head: Save your breath you will need it to blow up your date.
Boston,
That’s why he’s fighter of the decade right? STFU.
@Nate, are you serious? He’s fought ALL fading fighters with the exception of Marquez. We all saw those fights…
Well said Bryan Fury….this writer is a no talent bum. I cant believe how terrible his articles are…surely it wont be long before they take his pen off him. We should all stop reading them so they make him and his sub-par writing a thing of the past!
@Dave Lahr, I COMPLETELY agree with you. If Clottey lands 4 0r 5 solid punches on Pacquiao early in the fight, Pacquiao will have a very, very, long night ahead of him. Pacquiao can only hope he can wear Clottey down and make it to the later rounds. He will NOT KO Clottey. He’s just too big and strong.
4 Solid head shots and 2 Solid body shots will set Pacquiao back on his heels. Go Clottey!
A $100 bet on Clottey pays $430 with a win. That is worth laying down at least $100.
Compare the resume of Pacquiao to other current boxers…… From flyweight to present! No one can match his resume!
Jerry,
Lahr is obviously the best writer I’ve ever read in my life. I think he reminds me of Ernest Hemingway of the boxing world.
watch cotto/clottey then watch pac/cotto, theres no way clottey wins this fight.
I want to believe he has a chance, because i want the fight to be solid but i just cant convince myself he does.
Mr Lahr I’m convinced you’re the greatest writer that ever breathed.
here he comes,here he comes,
dont have your favorite pictures this time? have still to see you do a article on floyd.I be waiting,…
Hold on David Lahr Ima let you finish, but Pacquiao is one of the greatest fighters of all time! ALL TIME!
Kanye West
Dave, will you just find another JOB! Obviously anything can happen in boxing and YES there is a chance that Clottey can beat Pacman and if ever Pacman loses that’s because it was an exciting fight, HEAD TO HEAD match. Please Dave we KNOW you hate Pacman, instead of writing OUT OF THIS WORLD articles, why don’t you just go home and plant KAMOTE ok? Go keep on betting against Pacman, you can bet your mom, dad or your whole family! SUMAKAY KA PA!
I AGREE COMPLETELY , CLOTTEY WILL KNOCK PAC BACK TO MANILA IN 3 ROUNDS.
Answer: YOU will be a very happy little worm.
What’s more interesting yet noone asks what IF Floyd gets a beating from Mosley??
another writer of pacquiao hater, how many times manny was the underdog before the fight? all fighters you talking about if you asked them, their fans and analyst before the fight they all feel good, will knock manny out, and still in their prime,(search all their video in youtube) but right after manny knocked them out theres an excuses (washed out, over the hill, overtrain, mentally unprepared). how many times manny proved the critics and the haters wrong. thats why steroids issue came out, they couldnt think anymore excuses, for one apparent reason the man “is to good than anyone else in this era”. by the way right after manny retire and if floydie dont fight him. manny still ahead of floydie in rank of the “50 greatest boxer of all time” because your idol mayweather is just behind of morales and barrera in which manny knocked out.
In boxing anything can happen so Pacman is not taking Clottey lightly. He is training seriously and Roach has been doing his homework on the weaknesses of Clottey. The combined professionalism of Pacman and Roach will see Pacman through even if Clottey is the bigger boxer. At least Dave Lahr admits that this is an interesting fight unlike the other writers who insist on convincing fans not to watch the fight.
hey dave, still riding the pacman bandwagon eh? Just like mike says, everyone has a plan… until they got punched in the mouth…
i really doubt that yea manny predictable but he’s also overwhelmingly fast and he doesnt tire quickly like his opponent… this this boxing anything cant happen all is takes is 1 good punch to end a fight no matter how good or great fighter u r clottey has a fair chance somewhere around something like a 25-33 percent chance of winning this fight but this is boxing BUSTER DOUGLAS BEAT IRON MIKE TYSON at 42-1 odds a fight in which no one gave buster a chance and this fight is not that one sided in that no ones giving clottey a chance so he has a fair shot…. but me personally would be disapointed if the Pacman or Money Mayweather lose their bouts REALLY REALLY would love 2 see these 2 guys in the ring 2gether no disrespect to Clottey or Mosley but too much has built up this match first it was pound 4 pound king now the drug testing conflict biggest boxing event ever i am hoping that this fight happen without any of these fighters records being blemished
Umm, is this a serious column? A savage beating? Joshua Clottey’s going to do what Marquez, De La Hoya, Hatton and Cotto couldn’t? He of the 50% knockout rate? Dude, you are in the wrong line of work.
I can’t wait for the follow up article after the fight how Clottey’s an over the hill bum, and Pacquiao is ducking the best fighters. How much more does this guy have to prove to you nitwits?
How can Clottey give Manny a beating when Cotto got destroyed by Manny?
At least if Pacquiao gets a beating it means they are fighting,
not running and chasing.
clottey is gonna beat manny up no matter who gets the nod. clottey has the chin and defense to withstand manny’s firepower. and manny has the aggressive style that falls into clottey’s counterattack. the article writes that clottey is a 4 rounds fighter. i guess the only fight of clottey he seen was margarito. but he broke both hands around that time. if clottey’s hands holds up and he’s healthy throughout the bout, watch him beat up pacquiao.
i have to admit the tile gave me a real laugh! not just a beating but a savage beating mind you! anyway, i just don’t see it. i agree that pacman is very predictable, but its his speed and ability to hit form weird angles that sets him apart. look at that miguel cotto fight and you can see in the exchange of the first knock down cotto was utterly stunned by a weird looking shot. lots of fighters have said they know he is fast but were shocked to know how fast he really was in the ring.
that being said, this is boxing and your right, anything can happen, but i really doubt it.
