Pacquiao vs. Clottey is a Waste of Time

By Kirk Jackson: The fight between Pacquiao and Clottey on the 13th of march is a waste of time. The fight shouldn’t even be happening. To start off, no one really cares about this fight. The only real fight everyone wants to see is Pacquiao vs. Mayweather, which arguably would be one of the biggest fights in the history of boxing. Pacquiao goes for making at least 40 million dollars if fighting Floyd Mayweather to now making maybe around 12 million. Nice money to make even still, but you’d probably be better off maximizing your financial opportunities in such a deadly sport.

We already know the likely outcome of this fight. Anything can happen when it comes to boxing, but everything is set up for Pacquiao to win. This can be a real easy fight for Pacquiao. Although Clottey is a solid defensive fighter who does a good job of shielding himself from harm with his Winky Wright like defense, he is flat footed and like recent Pacquiao opponents, or actually like most of the opponents Pacquiao has faced. Clottey also likes to press forward which suits perfectly with Pacquiao’s plans. The Ghanaian warrior simply does not have the style to beat Pacquiao, and he also lacks the speed and power to seriously leave an imprint on Pacquiao. I can visualize Manny bouncing around the ring moving in and out, while Clottey slowly drags his feet forward and will end up getting tagged by the much quicker Pacquiao all night long. Clottey is far from weak, but he does not possess devastating knock out power so there is no threat there. Although Clottey is the bigger fighter coming into this match up, he may not even get the chance to impose his size on Manny. And I have a suspicion even if Clottey makes it a close fight and it goes the full 12 rounds, the judges will award Pacquiao with the automatic decision because of the politics of the sport.

Another strike against Joshua is his level of opposition. The only marquee names on his resume include Cotto, Judah, Baldomir, and Margarito. Clottey has not really stood out against the few good opponents he has faced. He basically stopped fighting against Margarito after he broke his hands mid way through the fight, he lost composure and could not control his emotions and got disqualified against Baldomir. He had a decent showing against a faded Zab Judah, who by the way was coming off a knock out loss to Miguel Cotto, a sound defeat by the hands of Floyd Mayweather, and some inner turmoil and inactivity. Then we have the late great Diego Corrales. The problem with the Corrales victory is the proud warrior was only a shell of his former self and was moving up from his natural light weight class up to welterweight.

This isn’t to knock Joshua Clottey because he is a tough fighter and possess qualities that make him a solid contender. But you can surely question his status as an elite fighter, and seeing as he is coming off a loss, he probably shouldn’t be stepping in the ring with the likes of Manny Pacquiao. If you’re Manny, why fight a guy who recently lost to the guy you just beat?

Why even put this on ppv? Why waste the time of boxing fans putting this together? Especially in wake of the elections going on in the Philippines, and with the recent leg injury to Pacquiao suffered in camp, wouldn’t it be best to put a halt to everything and wait for things to play out? Ok you couldn’t secure a fight with Mayweather, so maybe you can find another fight right? Like maybe against the likes of Shane Mosley, or Paul Williams, or even Yuri Foreman. The Foreman fight would work out because he is a Top Rank fighter so Arum can make more money off that and keep the cash in-house just like he would with Clottey. Also in fighting Foreman, Pacquiao would also being chasing history with the 8th title. Or you could just let Pacquiao rest and handle the elections and try to make a fight with Mayweather later in the year.

Apparently, Mr. Arum had other plans. And lets say the impossible happens and Pacquiao loses to Joshua Clottey March 13th what happens then? Clottey vs. the winner of Mayweather/Mosley? Do you know how much money Arum would lose out on? The dream match everyone had hoped for between Mayweather and Pacquiao probably wouldn’t even happen and boxing would suffer another huge blow.

Pacquiao vs. Clottey a Waste of Time???? When the Pound 4 pound King is fighting, it is never a waste of time. Especical of a stature fighter Of Manny Pacuiao obviously there are people that don’t know this sport. The fight shouldn’t even be happening??? To start off,??? Pacquiao loves to fight and step up too the plate with Clottey! people love to watch Pacuiao fight fan or not! no one really cares about this fight??? 60,000 FANS are going to care March.13 in Cowboy Stadium! last time I check you can only fit 20,000 in the MGM if that! LOL! The only real fight everyone wants to see is Pacquiao vs. Mayweather, which arguably would be one of the biggest fights in the history of boxing. Pacquiao goes for making at least 40 million dollars if fighting Floyd Mayweather to now making maybe around 12 million??? There’s something you final got right! I total agree with that statement but…….. We all know Mayweather it’s all about Money, never enough! Mayweather Jr. is BAD for the sport of boxing and Mosley is going to expose that on May.1 can’t wait. Mayweather reminds me of a Roy Jones jr. in 90′s! look what happend with him. This year is going to be very interesting in the sport of boxing. Boxing FANS boxing is here to stay don’t listen to those people that say it’s fading away, been here over 90 years fells!

I like watching pacman fight I wouldnt call myself a fan but ive seen every fight since Morales 1. I dont think this fight is a waste of time though I think clottey has good defense and solid boxing skills now he just needs to use them. He said hes gonna go toe to toe with pac and I think hes dumb if he does. People need to see that it doesnt matter if your bigger or stronger this guy is special he can hit harder and throw faster than almost anyone so try to out box him cotto was landing his jab and counter pretty good he just couldnt do it enough so im interested to see what happens if and when he fights a solid boxer who can counter punch like mayweather or mosley. IMO Marquez was his toughest opponent to date so I’m not too impressed that he is nbeating bigger guys with less skill (though I am not trying to take away anything he has accomplished, especially since he puts himself in harms way and my favorite FMJ seems reluctant to do the same.) I mean hes faster and more powerful and has more skills than the guys hes fighting they’re just bigger so its not a Huge suprise he wins. The toughest part is him getting floyd to fight I think bioth of them need the fight to happen but floyds why its not happening and and if it doesnt his legacy will be hurt as the masses have spoken and manny seems to have his legacy in stone. As far as ped’s i dont think hes using them but in a day and age where sports are infested with drugs I believe he should test and distance himself from all speculation and make my boy pay for it later. Im not a flomo I hate th guy outside the ring but i love defense and counterpunching so his fights are hardley boring to me. I cant hate a guy when hes been supplying us harcore fans with exciting fights for a while now. its good to see something that the philipino people can cheer about after seeing the tragedy their country has faced. if u think this fight is a waste of time than you need to stop acting like a spoiled girl and realize that boxing is not as big as it once was so we need to be happy mr excitement isnt running for office yet.

It is a waste of time for you but not to the boxing fans and who cares about your opinion? Boxing will still go on without you and I expect for you not to write anymore articles regarding Pacquiao/Clottey fight since it is a waste of time. Tell us some other interesting stories and stop disrespecting the over 40,000 fans that already bought their tickets to see this fight. Be a real boxing fan.

  • Jason Alcairo says:

Floyd fought Zab after Baldomir had beaten him.Why the hell does it matter now if someone fights a guy after beating the guy who beat them? That didn’t go on in the 80s at all with the big 4,Hearns,Leonard,and Duran? You fight someone because they’re good, not because of who they lost to.If styles make fights then sit down and shut the hell up and watch and see what happens.

  • Phoocquiao says:

This fight is a waste of time? I guess you should go let the 40,000+ people that have already bought tickets.

  • the Professor says:

This fight is a mega fight because Clottey is a guy that’s going to take Pacman apart when they go head to head.Boxing fans this is the GrandMaster of boxing. Manny is Human not a robot so he can be stop and Clottey is going to prove that if Manny don’t duck this fight, he’s a goner. This fight is a Mega fight People and it would even better if Hatton vs. Zab on the same card would be Amazing.

Unbelievable a lot of crab mentalities in the Philippines. Most of the bloggers here are Filipinos who pretend to be African-Americans or other nationalities… tsk tsk tsk

Jealousy and envy can kill yourself!

This article should have been headlining: PACMAN-CLOTTEY a MUST SEE FIGHT!

  • boxing_ego says:

This article should have been headlining: mayweather wasted too much time before fighting Shane Mosley. Or Mosley wasted time to fight mayweather. OR: Pacman-Clottey: A MUST SEE FIGHT! Due to the facts that both fighters are brave, not your idol PBF who was forced to fight Shane Mosley.

Fatcs: Manny is Best Fighter of the Year, Best Knocked-Out of the Year, FIGHTER of the DECADE, and the awards go on in on and on….. Period.

Jealousy and envy can kill yourself! And not good for your physical and mental health. tsk tsk

  • boxing_ego says:

This article is a waste of time for me and you to read. Get down Ryan Dunn and write more interesting articles based on FACTS.

  • KingDaddy6 says:

The only reason Fraud has a “dance partner” now is because his hand was forced; the court of public opinion would’ve crucified him! C’mon, it took him a week to sign the contract to fight Mosley. Everyone knows he didn’t want to fight Mosley but if he didn’t step up, he would probably retire again.

  • MoneyPack says:

    @KJ
Who cares about your opinion. You should be posting current boxing news and events.

  • reader says:

you stated that every pacman fight is a set up for him to win? well, that is why floyd didn’t take the chance.

  • Ness says:

I agree with the article. However, I would not call the fight meaningless, to echo the opinion of some of the posters, Clottey is no pushover and the pacman has a chance to beat him soundly… like noone else has yet. Is a matter of fact, if the Pacman doesn’t look fantastic beating Clottey, he would have not live up to his reputation.

I think that Arum/Team Pacquia, tood the easy road thinking that it would eventually lead to better things. At the time they decided to terminate the negotiations with Team Mayweather, they had not idea that Mosely would become available and outstage them in a matchup during the first week of may.

I’m certain that Arum thought that Mayweather would be left without a worthy dance partner, thus by the time they would be done with Clottey, they could come back and re-negotiate the fight with better terms and no additional PED testing.

But now, if the pacman can do more PPV buys – wish I think we would not do agains May/Mos, he will lose negotiating power. If the pacman looks pedestrian against Clottey… the same thing. The only way the Pacman will bet 50% plus no PED, is if Mosley wins….. the Mosley’s have never been good at negotiating….

  • BOBby says:

Wait I forgot something. Going back to what Wilson the Basketball stated earlier(about Pac/Cotto is a better fight than PBF/Mosley because Mosley got beat by Cotto who got destroyed by Pac… w/n my opinion, doesn’t make any sense @all). Like I said, so what Mosley got beat by Cotto (w/if you watch that fight could’ve went any way), Cotto got thrashed by Margarito who got thrashed by Mosley but I forgot to mention that Clottey got beat Cotto and Margarito so going by how you judge a fight that would actually mean that Pac/Clottey sucks azz!

  • Duke says:

is this writer even a fan of boxing? clottey had good showings in his best fights. how many fighters can go 8 rounds with margarito with broken hands? i know we are all disappointed with floyd vs manny not happening but get over it. clottey to me is the first real threat to manny since the marquez rematch because both fighters have similar qualities. they both are good defensively and have never been knocked out. the 30,000 people who bought tickets and the probable half a million who buy the fight cares about it. plus do you think arum is gonna allow clottey to fight the floyd vs shane winner and not give manny an immediate rematch if he wins? please!

  • BOBby says:

1more thing if Pac would’ve faught Mosley and beat him he would’ve had a WBA title and not WBO w/he won beating Cotto.

  • BOBby says:

And also, Pac had the chance 2 fight Mosley b4 he ran away and faught Cotto, you know why because he was scared him and his team of lying cowards! And the crazy thing about is that Mosley was willing to drop down to 140lbs to fight him and they still ran. Even though they would’ve mad a ton more money making a fight w/Mosley instead of Cotto!

  • BOBby says:

Ah Wilson, you dumb basketball. What is your point? Yea Cotto beat Mosley but guess what Margarito beat the hell out of Cotto and Margarito got beat 2 sleep by Mosley and we know 4sure that Margarito had Plaster in his fight against Shane but we don’t know if he did or didn’t against Cotto. So like I said, whats is your point?

  • BOBby says:

I will watch the fight but only on the internet, no way I would pay more than 10dllrs to watch on PPV. But I’m am interested in the fight as long as I can watch it 4free… I will be paying for Mayweather v Mosley (great fight)!

  • BOBby says:

And another thing look @the picture above. No not that he’s getting knocked da fck out, but the size of his head. Look how normal it looks (just like Barry Bonds head about 10yrs ago), now fast forward to a pic of a more recent fight i.e Pac vs Dhoya, Pac v Cotto or even Pac v Ricky Hatton. His head looks 10x bigger (also just like Barry Bonds when he was hitting 70+ HR)! I’ll let you decide what I’m getting @!…

Ps I’ll bet you will never here the results of his blood test!

  • Realbox says:

I’d rather watch an entire episode of american idol than pay for this lame fight.

  • BOBby says:

So umm, Pac fans, I’m still waiting for your excuse for your lover pinoy-boy Pacquiao taking a blood test 19days before his fight w/Clottey and not only that but also traing the next day and looking really strong in the ring. I thought he couldn’t take a blood test 25days before his fight and that he wouldn’t be able 2 train for 3days because it would weaken him? What’s the deal? Can one of you please take his 3inch dic out your mouths for a sec. to respond please?.. I’ll tell you why, because that biach and his team was scared to get that azz waxed, there’s no other way to look @it!

  • BRI says:

ALMOST FORGOT THE LAST EXCUSE. NOT GONA LET FLOYD BULLY AND DECIDE NEW COMMISION RULES. YET ITS OK TO ASK FOR 10 MILL PER POUND PENALTY IF FLOYD GOES OVER WEIGHT. COMMISION HAS RULES FOR THAT TO. NOT TO MENTION YOU GOT GLOVE SIZE YOU WANTED. RING SIZE, 10 MILL PER POUND CLAUSE, AND MONEY SPLIT YOU REQUESTED. AND MANNY SUCH A BIG STAR YET NO 24/7 HBO SHOW FOR HIS NEXT FIGHT. TICKETS ONLY RAN 50$ TO 700$ WITCH IS REAL CHEEP. AND JEREY JONES BOUGHT 30 THOUSAND DOLLERS WORTH OF TICKETS AS REQUESTED BY ARUM. THAT ARUM HAS TO PAY BACK WITH PROFITS FROM FIGHT. MANNY SUCH BIG STAR YET MOSLEY MAKING ALMOST DOUBLE WHAT MANNY IS MAKING FOR HIS FIGHT. AND FLOYD IS MAKING 4 TIMES WHAT MANNY IS MAKING IN HIS NEXT FIGHT. 12 MILL TOP FOR MANNY NOT INCLUDING 27% HE HAS TO GIVE TO ARUM AND % HE HAS TO GIVE TO GOLDEN BOY. YES MANNY HAS TO GIVE GOLDEN BOY A % OF EVERY CHECK HE GETS FROM BOXING MATCHES. MOSLEY MAKING 20 MILL FOR THIS FIGHT. FLOY MAKING 40 MILL. SO MUCH FOR MANNY THE SUPERSTAR. CANT WAIT FOR THE PPV NUMBERS.

  • preston says:

Even though I am one who did not agree with Pac on the blood testing issue with Mayweather, I cannot say that I am not interested, or excited about Pac’s fight with Clottey. First of all, as has been noted, Joshua Clottey has never been dominated by anyone, and as fast as the Pac train has been steam rolling over his recent opponents, it has a very real chance of comming to a screeching hault against Clottey. Clottey has never been KO’ed, unlike Pac, and to my knowledge has only been knocked down once…..and that was a flash knockdown to Cotto. Clottey will also be one of the best, if not the best defensive fighter that Pacquiao has ever faced, and I think that Clottey will be VERY succesful in counter punching Pac all night long. Clottey has very good hand speed, and can really mix his punches up when he is fighting agressively. Miguel Cotto who is a very good boxer made the mistake of trying to go blow for blow with Pac, which turned out to be a disasterous mistake, considering that Cotto had already been knocked down and wobbled a few times in his career before. But for the first few rounds of the Cotto-Pac fight, when Cotto actually used his boxing skills, he made Manny look very bad. Clottey will not engage in a slugfest with Manny, so I do not see any type of stoppage in this fight for Pac at all……and if that does happen, then I would be VERY surprised. With Clottey’s defense, and superior boxing skills, I can see him pulling off the upset because I just cannot see Pac KO’ing Clottey. Clottey has NOTHING to lose in this fight because no one expects him to win, and it is a foregone conclusion that Pac will beat the hell out of him, but that puts more pressure on Manny, not only to beat Clottey, but also doing it in impressive fashion. Manny can however, win this bout via a desicion because Clottey’s biggest achilles hill is his inexplicable rounds of inactivity…..it hurt him against Antonio Margarito (who may have been fighting Clottey with loaded gloves), and against Cotto…..so with Pac’s ability to stay agressive thru out the bout, he definately has a chance there. THIS WILL BE A VERY GOOD BOUT, AND PAC HAS A VERY REAL CHANCE OF LOSING.

  • BRI says:

AND PLEASE STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR WHY FLOYD BEATS MOSLEY ALREADY. MOSLEY IS RANKED #3 IN THE WORLD P4P AND DESTROYED MARGARITO. SO ENOUGH WITH THE OLD STUFF. AND ENOUGH WITH THE LONG LAYOFF EXCUSE. FLOYD HAS FOUGHT ONE FIGHT IN THREE YEARS. AND FOR THE RECORD. NO ONE WALKS AWAY FROM 40 MILL OVER A BLOOD TEST UNLESS THEY HAVE SOMETHING TO HIDE. I AM SCARED OF NEEDLES BUT HAVE A MILLION TATTOOES. IT MAKES ME WEEK IF I GET BLOOD TAKEN 30 DAYS B4 FIGHT BUT I GOT BLOOD TAKEN 24 DAYS B4 HATTON FIGHT FOR H.I.V AND DID GREAT IN THE FIGHT. ITS AGAINST MY RELIGION. BUT YOU ARE CATHOLIC. GIVE ME A BREAK. WAKE UP.

  • BRI says:

IM JUST WAITING FOR MANNY TO FIGHT SOMEONE NOT COMING OFF A LOSS. AND EVERYONE ALWAYS COMPLAINS THAT FLOYD DOESNT FIGHT THE BEST YET ITS OK FOR MANNY TO HAND PICK WHO HE FIGHTS AGAINST. HAS NOT FOUGHT ANY OF THE TOP WELTS. FLOYD, MOSLEY OR PW. EVERY FIGHTER HE HAS FOUGHT IN THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF HAS COME OFF A BIG LOSS. DELAHOYA, HATTON, COTTO AND NOW CLOTTEY AND NEXT OPPONENT SUPPOSE TO BE MARGARITO. WHEN IS HE GONA FIGHT THE TOP OF THE FOOD CHAIN. IS HE NOT THE #1 IN THE WORLD? IS HE NOT SUPPOSE TO BE THE TOP WELT IN THE WORLD BUT HAS YET TO FIGHT THE TOP WELTS IN THE WORLD. TIME TO FIGHT SOMEONE ON THE UPSWING. NO ONE IS GONA WATCH HIS NEXT FIGHT. EVEN HIS FANS WILL WATCH THAT ON YOUTUBE. NO ONE IS PAYING FOR THAT FIGHT. NO ONE CARES. FLOYD WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IN THE MEDIA IF HE WAS FIGHTING CLOTTEY AND MANNY WAS FIGHTING MOSLEY. WHO HE CHOSE NOT TO FIGHT AND CHOSE TO FIGHT COTTO INSTEAD WHO HAD JUST BEEN KILLED BY MARGARITO

  • Ukansodoff says:

Yeah its a massive let down not having Mayweather and Pacman fighting each other.

But 1, Clottey is a decent opponant, hes certainly no bum. And 2, Money is great but Pacman is a true sportsman competitor and its about a hell of alot more than just making money.

  • ozzy osborne says:

    @ tiger
i just watched a bunch of youtube on clottey…i dont think clottey would win a single round against mayweather…

  • Eddie says:

    I am out of touch.

Clottey is no push over in my opinion.

  • roy says:

Speculation is a waste of time, this will be an exciting fight, either Pacquiao will knock out Clottey for the first time or Clottey will upset Pacquiao by knock out,as long as they dont run from each other inside the ring there will be excitement,Clottey’s record in the welterweight division is much better than Mayweather because he fought tough opposition, his losses were close and some were questionable.

Anything about Pac is never a waste of time. BOxing matters to majority of boxing fans and to a good number of hollywood celebrities, professional sports athletes and all walks of life everywhere in the world,…. after all he is the fighter of the decade recepient as a matter of fact.

Pac fights with an intention to give his all for the sake of the fans who love boxing, haters and non-haters.

  • Rufus says:

This fight is a real bad deal for Pacquiao; $12Mil sounds about right. Live gate is struggling; there are great seats available(from ticket brokers) all over the arena and from Ticket Master also–with 3 wks to go, that’s not good. PPV is not going to be much better. I’ve never heard of a mail-in rebate for a PPV fight.
Think about it, let’s say his purse turns out to be $12M. Arum gets 20%, GBP gets a piece, the IRS gets about 25-30%, I assume he pays taxes in the Philipines. Bad deal!

  • Rufus says:

Top Rank/Tecate are offering a $20 mail-in PPV rebate with the purchase of Tecate beer. Great promotion to boost PPV sales. $30 for a PPV fight?

A couple of hard punches will knock manny down. How can this be an EZ fight. Dont bet all your money to manny or u’ll be sorry. Clottey doesnt need to be techncly supperior to take him down, all he need to do is one round of ‘shock and aww’ and the rest is history. A goodbye to future big fights. Will congressman manny will have time to train for his future big fights. I doubt it.

  • aussieboxfan says:

I booked the fight today on main event….
Can Manny duplicate his supurb peformance as v Cotto? Or could he be the first fighter in history to hurt or possibly even stop the rock solid Clottey? If Manny does not perform at his absolute best as he did v Cotto, he’ll lose. Cotto gave Manny hell for the first half of their bout, and it wasn’t until Manny kicked into overdrive that he was able to seperate himself from the big, tough Cotto. Clottey is every bit as good as Cotto and bigger! Can Manny keep shocking the boxing world by beating guys WAY too big for him??I am soo excited to find out… What a rush it will be, to see a 147lb man forcing a 160-65lb to the ropes, in an effort to overpower him!
This is watching history in the making folks! All time greats come only once a generation…

Manny should pull out and fight Berto or Bradley or maybe even JMM again,at least 1 of they fights would be intresting to watch.Clottey is going to get his ass whooped. There is no other way the fight will go and thats why it is a complete waste of time

  • tj says:

you say at the end of your article “this is not to knock clottey” but the entire article is knocking clottey. you also mention the clottey is a ” solid contender”, however the article contradicts this! “If you’re Manny, why fight a guy who recently lost to the guy you just beat”, well why is mayweather fighting someone that lost to a guy that pacman just beat? you can mention hypothetical facts all day, but the question is who else is out there for him to fight? i think you should have a opinion and stick with it!!!!

Right am getting sick of this now, Kirk your obviously not a big boxing fan so please stop writing for a boxing website, and anybody who says this fight is a waste of time and there not going to pay for it are not real boxing fans either, this is a great matchup, yes its not Mayweather-Pacquiao which we all wanted to see but its not like both of them are fighting slouches that nobody cares about. Pacquiao is in for a tough night March 13th, everytime Clottey fights hes left his opponent battered and bruised and i expect him to do the same to Pacquiao, am not saying he is going to win but he has a very good chance at doing so. The politics in boxing has already decided the winner and that is Pacquiao, no way are the judges going to want to be responsible for ruining a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. Clottey will never win a decision and i cant see him knocking Pacquiao out, but he will make it competitive, so if ur boxing fan quit ur moaning and enjoy a hell of a fight March 13th.

Pac is getting BIG money and Clotty is getting his biggest pay day so its a win win for them and Clotty has never been beat up so whats not to like. We know what the Hatton fight was gonna be…this will not be Hatton part 2! Win or lose Clotty will hurt Pac! I’m all about supporting Mayweather but i’m not going to sh*t on Pac and Clotty for no reason just to make my fighter look better. It’s a privalige to see PBF and Pac fight so until test prove otherwise just sit back and enjoy them because we’re going to miss them when their gone.

  • Blood and Guts says:

Interesting comments! De La Hoya Vs Cotto would be an AWESOME FIGHT…someone needs to put that together and make it happen in 2011. I would even consider flying to Vegas to see that fight if they can make it happen by next September.

  • donnie isaac says:

Simon, you are very correct. I don’nt beleivee this is waste of time because when Pacquiao will enter the ring, worldwide fans would be following up to see him fighting mostly are asian while for Clottey the African.

  • yo mama says:

@keysla-at a “Mannyrific” catchweight of 145, Marquez could probably out point Cotto…maybe even score a TKO.

  • namo! says:

    @Kirk…are you high on drugs?

  • Tyler says:

hey kirk jackson or davey boy lahr or esteban how many pennames do you have really; if this fights a waste of time then dont bother blogging about it you tw*rp.

  • pogi says:

I dont know why the writer writes about this topic. “Its a waste of time”??? so why wrote this!!! he even know the details, angle by angle… its like saying, are you blind? cant you SEE its coming??? DUH!! pathetic writer…..

  • vince vegas says:

    Every fight can’t be Hagler/Hearns

  • keysla1 says:

@ Kirk…i’ll give you ODLH but who else?

  • Remi says:

I sincerely agree with Kirk, this fight is unnecessary, Manny should face Maywether now, not next year if he truly wants to be known as the Pound for Pound King.

  • Chris Archer says:

This has upset written all over it, You might ask why Arum would put Pacquaio vs Clottey together, here could be the reason. When your talking about Arum you have to think like a snake. Arum may know that a Pacquaio vs Mayweather fight will never happen, he may also know that Pacquiao is going to retire in the next year or so anyways. So what would a snake do? Sabatage, or at least throw Pacquaio in with a big strong, tough Welterweight being given the chance of a lifetime. If Clottey pulls off the upset then he becomes a big name, he gradually builds Clottey into a pound for pound fighter. He plays up the fact that Clottey’s only losses where to Margarito who he allows Clottey to avenge and argue he won the fight with Cotto. He still makes allot of money off a rematch and money if Manny fights again. Its a smart buisness move by Arum, he may just be rolling the dice knowing he is not really making a risk with Pacquiao. Its these behind the scene dealings that often lead to an upset. And so goes the YoYo world of boxing.

  • Kirk Jackson says:

    @ keysla1,
the 154 pound version of Oscar De La Hoya Floyd fought against could probably beat Clottey and a fight against Cotto would be interesting. A thing we would have to take into consideration is which version of each fighter are we matching up? Judah after losing to Baldomir, Mayweather, and Cotto came back and did well against CLottey.

  • Kirk Jackson says:

    @ wowzabean,

you’re right. I honestly try not to come off as a biased writer. Whether I agree with someone or something or not, I want to try to keep things as even as possible. It’s good to hear different opinions and see things from a different perspective.

  • ares says:

lol @ simon…..6.8 trillion people!! the world is waaaaay bigger than i thought lmao

  • keysla1 says:

    agree vinny..agree

  • vinny says:

I actually think the Clottey vs Pacquiao fight is going to be entertaining. Clottey is a great WW and can take a solid punch. Pacquiao chose a legit WW, the only one available at the time, to fight. I think Clottey has a chance at winning and if Manny happens to KO Clottey than more power to him. Not many other fighters were willing to fight Clottey b/c he isn’t that popular so the risk outweighs the benefits of fighting him. In that sense I give props to Manny for giving a fighter like Clottey a chance. In the end I want to see Manny win so he can fight Mosley or PBF. Both of those matchups are worth the PPV.

  • keysla1 says:

name me one fighter that mayweather has fought that could have beat a cotto or a clottey..

  • wowzabean says:

    Kirk,

You’re entitled to your own opinion champ. Opinions are like @ssholes everybody has one. Regardless of the topic at hand, politics, religion or sports, if you lean too hard one way you’re going to get backlash, welcome to the writing industry. So don’t insult people that post a reply, simply post a counter argument. Don’t take it personally, it’s just blogging.

  • vinny says:

A lot of other writers seem to think that Clottey is going to bloody and give a Savage Beating to Manny. I think you guys should debate each other.

  • Kirk Jackson says:

The funny thing is, a lot of people just have their head stuck inside the box and are afraid to see things from a different perspective. Some can’t correctly interpret the message. I’m not trying to disrespect any fighter, but certain people seem to think that because I speak the truth about a situation.

  • Cruz says:

Manny Pacquiao was looking to fight the #2 best welterweight in the world Floyd Mayweather. Negotiations fell apart so Manny went looking for an apponent. Shane and Berto were scheduled to fight so Manny went on to sign to fight the #5 welterweight Clottey. Manny beat the #4 welterweight Cotto. So if he cant fight any of the other top welterweights in the world then why not fight the next one in line?

  • keysla1 says:

@ Mark from Canada..wtf do you know? Canada’s become the spotlight as the world’s poorest sportsmanship during these winter olympics…you don’t have any sport that you can remotely compete in not requiring snow.

  • PAC-I-JUICER says:

  • TB says:

it is a waste of time clotty is hand chosen opponent because hes style is perfect for pac. pac can just bounce in and out all night and just tee off.

  • lex_fugitive says:

Tecate and Top Rank are reportedly offering a $20 rebate for this fight with a purchase of a 12 pack or larger of Tecate beer! In states where this is legal anyway. This could really boost sales! It may have just sold me on buying this fight, if i can get it for $30! I hope its legal in my state!

  • Dude Really? says:

at the heart of the dispute between Mayweather and Pacquiao is the issue of whether the blood tests should be random or on pre-determined dates. The aforementioned Mr. Slagter, of The Grand Rapids Press, reported, “Dr. Gary Wadler, an internal medicine physician and chairman of the World Anti-Doping Agency’s Prohibited List and Methods sub-committee, supported Tygert’s position. Wadler believes, ‘It (the testing for PEDS) would lose all its validity if the athlete could pick and choose when he is going to be tested… and how he’s going to be tested. They’re sophisticated enough now that if someone wanted to, you could play the calendar to your advantage.’” Echoing this sentiment was Victor Conte in his interview at doghouseboxing.com when he said “for these substances to be utilized at their maximum efficiency, they must be properly cycled and be out of your system by the time the competition begins.” He also insists that announced testing is practically worthless and testing needs to be random to be effective.

  • wowzabean says:

Well why don’t you tell this to you’re writing buddies Lahr and Esteban.

  • hbstowe says:

this writer is a waste of time. dont write anything related to boxing its not your forte.

  • jca says:

Just relax and enjoy the ride, everybody knows your point of view and much are in disagreement with you. If you don’t want to see the fight, go relax somewhere and hope that both Manny and Floyd will win their respective fights so we all can dream of that match. In the mean time let the show go on – there is nothing much you can do about it by now anyway!

  • D@beastMASTA says:

Agre, Simon. This article is a waste of time, darn it, I just wasted my time commenting…

  • FP says:

“The fight shouldn’t even be happening. To start off, no one really cares about this fight.” Apparently you don’t.

  • Mark from Canada says:

The only reason this fight is happening is because Manny is too much of a coward to take the random blood tests. He is afraid of becoming the only other professional athlete to get caught using HGH. By refusing the random blood tests the British Rugby player became the first pro athlete to get caught. Manny is dirty as sin and will only fight athletes who Bob Arum controls and who will not ask for the random blood tests to catch him. He is an obvious cheater.

  • JC says:

He was the top ranked welterweight available when the Mayweather fight fell apart.

  • Simon says:

If the fight is a waste of time, then why bother writing this article. Another non-sense rhetorics.

Asians and africans will support this fight. If you don’t know, 74% of the world population of 6.8 trillion are from the continents of Asia and Africa. PPV will be an absolute sell out and this fight will not even need north american audience.
