Mayweather-Pacquiao square off in Boxing Monthly!

By Mike Hunt: I recently recieved my monthly dose of Boxing Monthly in the post and straight away I read the panel from people throughout the boxing world on the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight and who they think will win. I want to be able to forget about this fight for now at least but because it’s that big for the sport it just won’t go away. Each explain which fighter of the two they like and why they think they will win the fight.
Timothy Bradley who is an excellent fighter himself said: “Mayweather – easy fight, hands down. I’m a big Pacquiao fan but i’m a big Mayweather fan also and I definitely pick Floyd, he’s a very smart boxer, crafty in the ring, I mean he has everything and I wouldn’t be suprised if he stops him.”
Others going for Mayweather include the likes of Johnny Nelson, Billy Graham, Jim Watt and Ricky Hatton (who’s fought both), Ricky said: “Floyd and Manny are definitely the two best fighters pound for pound and of the modern era. I think Floyd is going to win this, he definitely beat a better Ricky Hatton than Manny did and because of all his experience, he really knows how to pace a fight.”
Buddy McGirt also commented saying: “I like Mayweather. Pacquiao’s on a high and I love Freddie Roach, he’s a great trainer and a great guy, but the difference in the fight is not the corners, but the fighters and Mayweather has something you can’t teach. Floyd is a natural, he’s got that natural ability to make adjustments so well in a fight. I respect Pacquiao, but he’s never been in with someone like Mayweather and that’s going to be the difference.”
People rooting for Pacquiao include: Frank Maloney, Steve Collins, Don Majeski and Bert Sugar who says: “I say Pacquiao because the fighters that have given Floyd the most trouble are pressure fighters.”
Joe Goosen also said Pacquiao: “Pacquiao hurts people all the time and he’s using his right hand a lot more now and he’s getting trickier than he’s ever been.”
I for one enjoyed this and found it a very good read and suggest the proper boxing fans give it a read. The result of the panel is what I also expected with Mayweather winning the poll 25-13.
I keep saying I don’t really want to talk about this fight until it’s officially made (if ever) but as I said before the debates just won’t go away. Both have to get through real tough welterweights in Mosley and Clottey before they can think about eachother again. Lets just enjoy the two fights coming up and hopefully after May 1st were all looking towards Mayweather-Pacquiao.

Pacquiao chose Cotto instead of Mayweather because that was the consensus of his fans at the time. There was a poll in Paclandia and he respected the consensus. Besides, Cotto defeated Mosley so it was more logical to fight the winner between the two.

Floyd is going to make at least 3 times what Manny makes in their next fights. GBP has a lot better stable of fighters than Top Rank. And Top Rank won’t put their fighters in a tough match.
Mayweather got over double the PPVs against Marquez. Almost double against ODLH. Got tens of thousands more here and over double in Britian against Hatton. May 1 will over double March 13. Mayweather constantly performs better than Pacquiao PPV wise. And the average Joe, the regular sports fan that only buys the big fights that are talked about on ESPN and in newspapers all think Manny is juicing. Thats just the truth. I can’t change it and no Pacfan on here can change it. And Manny sure isn’t going to change it by only fighting in Texas where they don’t do ANY DRUG TEST.

So does Pacquiao have to drop his ridiculous demand too? He wants a new rule also! Also the NSAC has said Mayweather has every right to ask for more stringent drug tests and thats a matter of private negotations, That it isn’t making a new rule but called negotating. Just like the gloves and the ring size. These are all matters for negotation, but Manny doesn’t want to fight Mayweather. I mean come on, Manny was scared of Mosley. The thing is too many people were paying attention so Manny couldn’t do to Floyd what he did to Mosley and just admit Floyd’s too good for him. If it wasnt the drug testing it would be something else. Mayweather isn’t shot and he’s an A level fighter, which means we will never see Manny Pacquiao fight him.

Isn’t Mayweather fighting an opponent that is too good for Pacquiao??? Honestly, think about it people, Roach admitted Manny refused to fight Mosley because he was too good. So does anyone honestly think he wanted to fight Floyd??? Mayweather is considered better than Mosley and will try to prove it on May 1. This is the same Mosley that is “too good” for Manny. A lot of average people and regular sports fans now think Pacquiao is a cheat. But Manny realizes its better for them to think he is a cheat than for everyone to know he isn’t anywhere close to Mayweather’s level.

People like Sean here are trying to make up facts, the only fight since moving up to welterweight that Manny wasn’t favored to win was against Oscar Dela Hoya. Hatton, Cotto, and now Clottey all came in as the under dogs. People said he would blow Cotto away before it happend, and they brought up the fact that he looked so bad against Clottey to justify it.
Even a child knew that Hatton’s style was perfect for Pacquio; the only suprise was how fast he got ko’d. I give Pacquio all the credit he deserves, but I have one question if every one hates Mayweather Jr and believes what most people on these boxing forums believe, why is Floyd Mayweather jr favored to beat Pacquio and Mosley based on betting odds?
People on here starting to get emotional again, lets just stop talking about this fight until it happens, because people can’t put together logical reasons for why they believe a certain fighter would win without name calling and acting like a middle schooler.

family guy, I call Pompous Braggart Fraud, “Fraud”, because thats exactly who he is in and out of the ring. I give him props for hiring a legit marketing/branding team that put up the facade. I always said that his facade will fall as he is not intelligent enough to maintain this charade. Who is Fraud as a boxer and as a human? The loudmouth who has to act like “Ali” or a WWE villain to get attention; the one who has a criminal violent past who tried to cheat the IRS; the great businessman, philanthropist, caring father etc.? His mouth, marketing and branding team portray him as one thing, but his actions and history show him to be another. Only Flomos/Sheeple buy his facade. Everyone else can see his true colors in and out of the ring. In the ring, again I’ve said he is one of the best boxers in history. He was a GREAT lightweight. He got scared of losing his “0″ and getting brain damage at welterweight and lost his will and courage to fight. Does someone with all Fraud’s fears and insecurities sound like a “Great Champion” or “the Greatest of All-Time”? But you know, its just my opinion and we can all have our take. As stated by Voltaire “I do not agree with what you say, but I will defend to death your right to say it.”
I don’t think Floyd will beat Pacman. Floyd may counter punch all he wants but he wont be able to knock him down or even hurt him. As a matter of fact when they fight I don’t see Floyd doing a lot of counter-punching unless he wants to get knock down early. What hes gonna do is do a lot of defensive moves with hit and run strategy for the first couple of rounds and will try to go to the distance but with his precision hit and run and hope for a decision. In the meantime Pacman will come in measuring up Floyd with his right and setup shop at Floyds left…second round you’ll see Pacman coming aggressively with his speed a barrage of combos being thrown at Floyd. Floyd will be too busy fending off, getting off balance and getting hurt from those hits coming in from Pacman into the 5th rounds. At least half of those punches will hit him and hit him good making him desperate to make a score and want to get closer to counter punch and that’s where hes gonna get knock down, or get KO !
Still on this subject, what a pity. Nobody can say who will win, when the fight happens, I mean, “IF” the fight happens, just sit back get, some popcorn and enjoy the show. REAL boxing fans can give an opinion or a prediction without name calling and being emotionally attached. Unfortunately, fans that idolize a person for whatever it is they do, and just think with their hearts and can’t use reason or use facts on BOTH sides will never be able to have an intelligent conversation about any topic. PLEASE, if you don’t have anything intelligent to say, keep it to yourself. The only people that will argue with this are people who can’t think for themselves…
All this talk we all know this is a toss up fight I remember when Tyson was going to fight Lewis the Tyson fans could only remember when he ruled the heavys and gave Lewis NO chance lets all remember Floyd has not really fought in years other that that sparring session with a blown up JJM……..Unless mosley gets real old real fast floyd may find Shame more that he can handle
@Jaysmooth, I said that there is as many people wanting to watch an exciting Manny fight. Fraud/Hatton barely outsold Pac; Sure Fraud/Oscar was the biggest PPV fight in history, but we ALL KNOW it was because of the Golden Boy, not Fraud. Pac/Oscar (can be said similarly that due to Oscar) and Pac/Cotto both did over 1M PPV, both at the top ten PPV’s of all-time, while Fraud only has his Oscar fight at #1 that sold more. Regardless, both will have good PPV numbers and make money whether they fight each other or not, but Fraud isnt the only “CashCow” in boxing today. Fraud was out less than 2 yrs, Sugar last fought almost as long as Fraud’s retirement. Manny is still the P4P King by ESPN and Ring Mag; Pac is the BWAA fighter of the year and decade so get over it. The Pac/Fraud mega-fight wasnt only drawing interest because of Fraud.

The difference is the fighters themselves. Floyd can make adjustments on the fly. Manny needs Roach to tell him what to change and how to fight. They will have only 36 minutes to make their case. With the tools each fighter possesses, there is no way Manny can reach Floyd, let alone stop him. It looks more and more like it would be an EASY fight for Floyd.

Let’s get this straight, Pacquiao needs Roach to make his game plans, Roach has made game plans for fights against Mayweather before and failed, Mosley is a bigger threat as he is smarter in the ring than Pacquiao.

Pacquiao agreed to take the blood test after the fight. Will any trace of PED vanish without a trace after a fight? I don’t think so… and I bet Floyd knows that & his playing with Manny’s head. Pacquiao a superstitious person and no amount of science will convince him that getting a little blood is ok. If the purpose of Floyd is to make sure that the fight is clean… why don’t both of them agree that whoever is on PED and Xylocaine should surrender his share of the money to the other guy. I think that is a fair deal if the purpose is of Floyd is really to rule out PED or pain killers. Here is an even better idea. If Pacman wins and is proven that he is not on PED… why doesn’t Floyd give his share of the money to Pacman (of course Floyd will not agree to that. He is a smart guy.)

I say this because Arum is so upset with Mayweather he doesn’t want to do business with him and thats a shame. Roach don’t want the fight because he is 0-4 against Mayweather. He trained Ricky Hatton when they fought. He also don’t want the fight becuase of the drug testing the floyd wants..Roach is a crook and he knows PacMan is juicing. Roach has had 2 boxers that test positive for steriods or PEDs. James Toney being one of them.. TEAM Manny Knows what the Business is. Floyd called all the welterweight fighters out in 2005 and non of them stepped the plate. Moseley wouldn’t fight him. He eventually fought Dela Hoya, Hatton and Judah and beat all of them. So what else does he have to prove. You guess are talking about fighting welterweights, he isn’t a true welterweight he does just like Manny, he go up and down in weight. The Both do it Manny and Floyd so why are you saying Floyd should fight this and that fighter when Manny isn’t…He is the Champion at 147 Right.

Manny has never out sold Floyd and then numbers will prove it again when the March and May fights are over. Floyd is the new “CashCow” now that Dela Hoya has retired. Floyd has helped carry boxing for the past 10 years. Yeah, you can say Manny got fighter of the decade. Thats only bc Floyd retired for almost 2 years. If he didn’t he would still be P4P champ period.

Its a given that before the fight ( if it happens ) each one will have known the other fighters style, weakness, strength and therefore watch out for and try to beat the other mans style…one thing Mayweather cant change is his fighting stance, which is almost sideways and that why he use that left shoulder roll a lot but given Freddie Roach training of Pacman both can make that ineffective and will make him do something he wont be comfortable with, be out balance and therefore easier to hit. Once he gets demoralized and out of synch, Pacman gonna go for the kill…Also Myweather wont be able to absurb and avoid all the hits that’s coming his way…and each hit is a potential KO !

There will be a different gameplan for Mayweather Jr. fight and in my opinion Freddie Roach will find a way for Pacquiao to dissect the Mayweather defense. I see a unanimous decision win for Pacquiao due to aggression and ring generalship. If Mayweather decides to open up for an offensive game he will not have the power to knock Pacquiao down and risk into getting knocked down himself.
Floyd wins hands down. I cannot wait so all Pacman fans can finally cease all the talk.
Pacquiao will beat Fraud Maryweather. Sure Fraud has a slim chance of dancing his way and “stealing” a decision with his precise pitty patty pillow counter punching. Realistically, Pacman has the speed, power and courage to destroy Fraud as he’s done to recent opponents. Pacman will have the stamina, the speed and power to pressure Fraud all night. Pac will be able to walk through Frauds punches (he showed against Cotto that he can take a beating then dish out a bigger whoopin’). He has the speed to chase Fraud and land his creative combo’s from amazing angles. Fraud will taste Pacs power from both hands and pray that he can’t sustain it like Judah or Dela hoya, but Manny will and it will end in a stoppage. Fraud knows this and would rather fight with his mouth and get his fans riled up. Before I wanted this fight, but now forget about it. I’d rather see Pacman fight Valero, Mosley(win or lose against Fraud, Sugar wont look bad, worst case he loses an ugly boring track meet while trying to fight and Fraud trying to run but I believe Sugar will be the 1st to beat Fraud), Berto and/or Yuri Foreman/Cotto winner for his 8th title then retire (no cheater Margarito, he doesnt deserve to be in the ring.) There is as many people willing to pay for an exciting Pac fight as shown against his fights against Oscar and Cotto, than a boring Fraud fight. Manny can still finish his career with a flourish and strengthen his legacy among the all-time greats without the Fraud fight. Fraud fans can worry about who Fraud will call out, want to fight then really fight. They can keep on proclaiming that Fraud is the Greatest, lmao. Fraud doesnt deserve a shot at Manny and the big payday that comes with the mega-fight. Manny showed that he too can walk away from it, no problem.

Floyd fought DLH and almost lost. Marquez couldn’t handle any outside boxer and size made a big difference with Marquez. Mayweather couldn’t put him down. Do you really think Mayweather can avoid getting hit by Pacquiao when he will come at mayweather with at two, three and five punches round after round?
There’s only oooooooooneeee MAAAYWEATHER!!! PBF can and has beat top guys on off night. Majority of the general public feel that we haven’t seen PBF on his A+ game yet and thats scary! I really think if Pac doesn’t clip him early he will end up getting completely out classes. Floyd puts on a clinic, just as he will against mosley. Despite what many people think, I truly believe we have not seen the best of mayweather yet. If anyone has been paying attention pacquiao has already given his opponents the blueprint to beat him . BayArea, Fighters beat themeselves up. LIke Manny, he spar with someone bigger than him. As part of his heavy training, he has to be hit comparable to the power of his oponent just to get used to the pain. Floyd was never hit by some power like the power of Manny. And that will be his negative side. If fighters are regressing, it is not because they are damage goods, It is because they are on the different level of class. The more they win, the more they face a better fighters. Floyd avoid better fighter and cherry picked his opponents. That is not a measure of greatness. Mosley will be one of his biggest test. That is the word or the doctor.
I agree with brett. Many fighters that pacman have beaten said the same thing “I’m faster and stronger” Not just one of the opponent said that pacman does only look slower when you are watching him.
I think that the winner in a Pacman vs. Floyd fight would be the one who truly believes in himself, has the most will to win, is not afraid to lose and most of all, has God with him. This is Pacman and I believe he will win over Floyd, most likely via KO in the second half of the fight. I’ve seen guys like Floyd who are bullies and braggarts but deep inside are really full of fear and lack confidence in themselves. In the first few rounds, Floyd’s defense will be impenetrable but as he gets tired and his hands and shoulders start to ache from Pacman’s constant battering, fear starts to creep into him and he starts losing confidence and Pacman will then see openings which he will take advantage of.
25-13 in favor of Floyd-not bad. The only problem I have is that the so-called “experts” predictions were all wrong in Pacs recent fights. I don’t think the trend will change. I always love it when people give Pac nil chance of winning and at the end of the day, Pac proved them all wrong. That’s more rewarding.
Floyd would easily beat Manny. For one thing Floyd is not old and coming off brutal KO losses like the average Manny opponent. Thats why I think Manny backed out of the fight in the first place. He knew he was in trouble because no one has softened Floyd up yet. So he found his way out of the fight and took it at the drop of a hat. I love watching Manny fight. But I just think he’s a little overrated. I mean when you think about it his three biggest wins lately wa Oscar who was forced to weigh-in at 147 on fight night and on top of that didn’t look impressive since the Vargas fight. Hatton who was destroyed by Floyd prior to the fight. And Cotto who took a brutal beatdown at the hands of Mr. cement wraps. Those two fighters were not the same by the time Manny got to them. Nor were they anything special in their primes. Manny is an all time great no doubt and he was a beast at 130 barring the Marquez fights. But from 135 on up he’s unproven.
Pretty Scared Floyd will last three rounds against Pacman if fought today or in the next 16 months. He knows it and that’s why Pretty Scared Floyd scrambled an idea on how to mess up the deal. Simple as that! Never go to battle with someone like Pretty Scared..special ops guys will tell you that.
Watching Pacquiao fight is different than fighting Pacquiao in the ring. These fighters have not experienced Pac’s speed and power and that’s why they can say that Pacquiao will lose to Mayweather. Most of the boxers who fought Pacquiao were all surprised by his speed and punching power. Until they fight Pacquiao, they wouldn’t believe that he is good. And Ricky Hatton, he still can’t admit that Pac is that good. Com’n he only lasted 2 rds.

Manny is at his peak. His strength is comparable to somebody whose been juicing up. I can’t blame Floyd for being scared of him. But the thing is Manny is for REAL. Floyd will only last for a round in case the fight is today. That is why PACMAN is the best fighter of the decade. I believe his peak will last till the end of next year.
when/if they fight it won’t come down to skills or ability, it will come down to mentality. will floyd be able to get under pac’s skin? will pac be able to stay calm & make floyd fight his fight? tough questions.
floyd’s been beating opponents before they even get in the ring for years…can pac be better than that or will he end up psyched out & unable to make a dent in the defence like hatton? pac has improved technically & is probably the most dangerous boxer floyd has faced…will floyd be have the power to get through to him or the will to put in the offensive work to take a decision? i don’t know…that’s why it’s a good fight.
they both have fairly dangerous fights to get through first as well…clottey has the tools to trouble pac & there have been far bigger upsets than mosley beating floyd. we’ll see i guess.

Damn, I wish I have a billion bucks so when Manny-Floyd happens in the future. I will personally ask those guys to bet. Of course i’ll go for Pacquiao. Then i’ll be more richer thanks to Manny Pacquiao. One thing i had learned over the years when Pacquiao fights. Do not bet against Manny Pacquiao.
The real problem for PBF is him self. He is think too hard about the fight if it ever hapen for some reason that he could not beat Pacquiao. But for me he is winable in this one as long he have te courage to face Pacquiao. But its the real thing instead that Pacquiao is the BRAVEst opponent he would be. So the factor is the one who dont have enough courage in the ring will be the looser. And thats the fact. I vote Manny on it!
