Mayweather-Mosley and Pacquiao-Clottey analysis

By By Benjamin Dover: I have been thinking hard about the two bouts coming up and i’m going to start with the main one. On May 1st you have Mayweather-Mosley, a fight boxing fans have been waiting and waiting for and now it’s finally happening. You have Floyd Mayweather 40-0 (25 KO’s) and Shane Mosley 46-5 (39 KO’s.)
I see this fight being a close one for the first 4-5 rounds with Mosley looking to pressure Floyd and trying to make him fight. I see Shane throwing a lot but not landing many along the way, similar to the De La Hoya-Mayweather fight.
On March 13th we have Pacquiao-Cottey, a completely different fight compared to Mayweather-Mosley. I see Pacquiao-Clottey being more of a brawl in a sense that Pacquiao will be using his speed and angles to hit Clottey. I think Clottey is a tough welterweight and a good fighter but he is tailor made for Pacquiao. He doesn’t move and has the tendency to stop throwing in the last few rounds and just stand there taking shots, against a fighter who throws and pressures like Pacquiao, this isn’t a smart move. I see Pacquiao winning a clear decision or maybe being the first person to stop Clottey in the later rounds. It all depends on Clottey, he needs to cover up well and use his boxing skills and power, because he does have that in his locker. He just has the tendency to take his foot off the gas I think it’s a stamina and weight issue because he does struggle to make weight limits.
After both of these bouts I see Mayweather and Pacquiao both coming out on top and again everyone will be talking about who’s better than who and debating the two fighters. Hopefully after May 1st were talking about Mayweather-Pacquiao once again.

I think we should all just sit back and enjoy the show the boxing people are putting on. Just when you thought MMA is taking over, boxing is enjoying a new high now because of the present cast of promoters, fighters and even trainers. Corrupt or not,its still a show that gets our barbaric juice flowing leaving us wanting for more. As for me…Im a Pacfan and thinks he deserves all the accolades being thrown at him. Those who thinks otherwise should learn to deal with it and move on,seriously. Someone here said if we rather have a brawl like UFC as opposed to “the art” of boxing? HELL YEAH!!!

I have read so many comments on different platforms over PBF and Manny. Alot of these comments are really driven by emotions than pure analysis (in my view). It is also true that thats the whole essence of discussion forums anyway excerpt those that bring insults. My beleaf is that Floyd is the best boxer of our era reasons being he is an all rounder in all departments. Boxing is not about loading punches hoping to hurt a target, but about adjusting to the demands of a particular skills that a fighter brings ie, good ring movement, perfect punch choice and a decent punching power. This is the only reason boxers deafeat more powerful opponents, Ali proved this and those that refuse to learn will have a turnished record. Manny is good, but is more of a national hero because of his achievements in a country that has not produced so many fighters. Sugar Shane could have easily taken Manny’s stature if he was from the Philipines. Be rest assured Floyd will come tops who ever he meets in the nearest future. I will wait to see the type of comments after these events.

you make a great point, with all this talk of mayweather, pacquiao and mosley you would almost forget that clotty is fighting pac. i wonder how he feels about this? is he disrespected? or does he understand his place? if he had the fire of a malinaggi we’d hear him loud and clear. but as it is clotty never complains.
Everybody talking about Pac, Floyd and Shane and rightly so. They are the stars and Clottey is not popular. Nobody’s talking about Clottey now but he is stronger, bigger, right handed, punches in fast combinations, has a stiff jab, an airtight defense and a great chin. We are all waiting for March 13 and May 1. We’ll see whether people can ignore Clottey after that.
The Mayweather-Mosley fight would have been a great fight if not for the fact that Mosley is a co-owner of GBP who promotes this fight and the same GBP who just recently negotiated for Mayweather vs Pacquiao.
Mayweather is the cash cow of GBP. There is nobody left in their stable. Mosley is really really old (let’s face it, that’s reality). And GBP WILL NOT ALLOW THEIR CASH COW TO BE DEFEATED. That’s just business. If he goes undefeated, he will bring in to GBP hundreds of millions of dollars in future revenue, and consequently add to Mosley’s retirement fund also.
SO WHO DO YOU THINK WILL WIN IN THIS FIGHT? Will Mosley, as a business man and co-owner of GBP allow Mayweather to lose?
Internet Doctor, exactly right. Of course it is a ploy. Unless of course you actually believe that Mayweather woke up one morning, just when the entire world wsa insisting that he fight Pac, and decided this is a good time to become the drug testing champion of boxing. The only reason he wants the blood tests are because they are invasive and he knows how much they bother Pac. He was looking for a way to get out of the fight and save face and he found it. Now he is saying that he will want a larger share of the purse and blood testing all the way up to the day of the fight, which he knows perfectly well will ensure that he will NEVER have to fight Pac. He is holding onto this excuse with the same deathgrip that he holds onto his “0″. If this is supposed to be such an easy fight for him, why is he so afraid to fight Pac and pick up an “easy” $45M paycheck? If he thinks it will be such a mismatch, steroids, hgh or PEDs shouldn’t make enough of a difference to matter anyway. What are you so afraid of Floyd that causes u to miss out on a $5M payday and deny the fans the fight they want to see? Mayweather is a con man. He is so obvious. Your analysis of the outcome of the May-Mosley fight is slightly flawed.
1. Mosley also was outboxed by Cotto (who was shorter or roughly the same height and Cotto is not NEARLY the boxer that Floyd is)
2. Floyd was touched a bit in the early rounds against Zab, but for one reason only: he fought an uncharacteristically high pressure fight specifically to wear Zab down in the later rounds – anytime time you fight aggressively you always run a greater risk of getting hit which is also what happened against JMM. Floyd will not fight like this against Mosley (or Pac).
Whether these fights are fixed to favor Floyd or not, he wins against both Mosley and Pac (ofcourse, on a fair and unbiased scorecard – I throw this in because one of the judges in the DLH-May fight inexplicably gave that fight to Oscar…).
Mayweather fighting the best welterweight and Manny continues to cherry-pick who he fights. And to top it off, he’s fighting in Texas so he won’t have to take any test for PEDs! Not even one urine test. None. Thats why the fight is in Texas!

Mayweather’s shoulder roll no match when Manny angles-in while throwing uppercut and body punch simultaneously. Floyd can only cover either body or face but not both. He might not be able to see the ones coming for the body but the big hit aimed to his chin he can’t. He has no answer for those even people call him genius. Pacman style is very unorthodox that there is no book in boxing made for that yet. There are nobody to sparr with, that can immitate his style while Floyd’s style are plenty. Random testing is just a ploy to duck Manny and everybody in the world knows it. WHY DON’T YOU JUST CAVI-IN…. believe me, there is no shame on it?

He is in the same ring with the opposition, only difference is Floyd has been taught very well from a very young age on how to better utilize the limited amount of room inside of the squared circle far better than any of his opponents has been. You all are 100% correct. I have been waiting for this fight for years. I am a one who really felt like Shane could beat Floyd. I’ll got to my reasons 1st then get back to the corruption.
1. Both are great boxers
2. Both are fast
3. Shane is bigger, stronger, & punches harder
4. Mayweather has the better defense by far
People are use to seeing Floyd as a defensive specialist against guys who really shouldn’t be in the ring with him. Let’s take JMM. He obviously was out classed & overweight (trying to bulk up for a bigger guy) but was able to hit Floyd with some very decent shots, he just wasn’t strong enough to affect him. Take the ZAB JUDAH fight. Early on he was battering Floyd around the ring until he ran out of gas. That shows that Floyd can be hit & rocked by guys who have speed & power.
Mosley on the other hand has trouble with boxers, yes, but only the ones who are a lot bigger than him. I don’t agree with people comparing Floyd to Vernon Forrest or Winky Wright because those guys had a big height advantage over Shane. Forrest was 6ft & Wright 5′ 10 1/2. It does make a difference.
So I felt like Shane wouldn’t allow Floyd to run all night & pot shot him because he’s fast enough to land back & his power has to be accounted for. Then suddenly Floyd signs with GBP the potential MAY-PAC fight is a $40 million draw & Shane could get paid twice for fighting once (because he is business partners with GBP & fights for them as well). I started hearing these whispers that this fight was only signed if Floyd could be guaranteed a “W”. I hope it is not true because this could be a fight for the ages, but again people remember IT IS BOXInG. A SPORT THAT IS CORRUPT AS IT GETS!!
Its amazing how the ignorant fans are already talking about somebody getting robbed. You will see one of the best boxers ever put on a boxing clinic. One ignorant reader suggested Mayweather will run. Dummy boxing is not about standing there and pounding and getting pounded. Its about scoring without being scored on and showing ring gentlemanship. Most probably don’t know what that means. I predict Mayweather will be to quick and Mosely 38-39 year old legs will start to tell him I’m old. Margarito was there for Mosely to hit. Steady movement accurate counter-punching and picking the spots to exchange punches will be key. Mosely will find it difficult to get to Mayweathers body.

mayweather will win my decision. I will also give it a 80 percent chance that it will be a boring fight. But it is the worthier fight of the two with merit to be won.
Pac will win by stoppage. No merit, in fact pac has all to lose in this fight. Wat if clottey lands a lucky punch? I would laugh tha rest of the year. The plus side of this fight is that u can pay to watch someone get beat up until the ref gives some mercy and stops the fight lol.
I would buy tha mosley-mayweather fight over tha pac fight. The level of competition is really high in that fight, but I fear that it will turn out into another boring fight unless mayweather decides to throw some combinations other than the usual one punch and run.
You don’t hear Shane saying ‘Sure I’ll fight Floyd but I wish it were a few years ago because I’m old now’ So Floyd’s detractors can’t use that as an excuse if Floyd has the victory after the final bell.
Shane’s been a warrior throughout his career, he has never made an excuse, he will be prepared & motivated.
If we’re lucky maybe we’ll see Floyd have to dig deep & not only show us amazing skills (No one in their right mind can deny he has them) But maybe he has to fight, not just box.

On thing for sure; with the level of anomosity there’s been between them, especially with Shane calling out Floyd immediately after the Marquez fight, I just can’t wait to see them finally standing eye to eye ready to touch gloves.

Mayweather is going to school Mosley, he’s too smart and too fast. Mosley’s style has devloped to the stage that he’s not as fleet footed as he once was, he squares up to his oponents more, often bouncing on the spot. His hands are positioned to throw clubbing hooks that are indeed very strong, but ultimately ineffective against a fighter who stands in the pocket with a philly shell defence. looking at Mosley’s recent fights, his head movement has lessened, displaying a stiff neck, which will allow Mayweather to slip punches and tag him over and over. The lateral movement of Mayweather will have Mosley throwing wild hooks to keep him in line. Ultimately, Mayweather’s counterpunching style will prove to too much of a riddle and result in a very easy nights work.

let me just start off by saying that i am not a floyd fan i am a boxing fan and i am just looking at this situation objectively. i just want to say that if PBF happens to out box MOSLEY then there is no way that PACMAN can beat him. MOSLEY bigger then floyd has the longer reach and is stronger then floyd and he he is also pretty fast aswell. id floyd can out box all of those obstacles as fast as PACMAN is he will not have a chance against a bigger more skilled PBF im just being realistic. Pacman is a good fighter but, all his fights is against fighter at a catch weight. These fighter are draining there self to make the fight happen. Stop saying Mayweather scare because he don’t want to fight a dirty fighter and put his life on the line. Mayweather will beat these two big bums and drive off in his Maybach.
I still have doubts if the Old Mosley v PBF fight will actually happen. The scenario is if PACMAN beats Clottey in March, there will be too much pressure for PBF to win. PBF and GBP will be agonising on the potential $45 million megafight with PACMAN.
If Clottey can pull an upset over PACMAN, then the Old Mosley v PBF fight would be the great attraction and a mega million rematch if PBF loses would still be possible.
So I agree with Chakyun, in case of a PACMAN win, I would not be suprised if the OLD Mosley v PBF would happen. GBP would find a way to compensate Old Mosley for some excuses they will come up.

pac to win by a late stoppage or 118-110 ,119-109 unamanious points win , clotteys got a sparring partners style of letting opponent dictate the pace of fight. floyd to outclass shane and win by a wide decision. then hopefully these two egotistical overpaided champions get realistic and make the big fight happen.

I see a very BIG possibility that Floyd might be defeated by Mosley whatever technical skills his got Mosley has the experience and strength plus a big motivation to win this fight.
After this fight, if Mosley losses that closes his chance for any fight with Pacman I think he will give all his got on this fight … I and all pacman, mayweather boxing fan will definitely watch this fight.
On Pacman and Clotty I checked out all Clotty’s fight and I agree with everyone he is strong but seem to lose steam after and just not throwing …he could have won over Cotto but he just stopped in the 9th round.
If Pacman wins this March Event … the pressure for both Floyd and Mosley will be so great….and I hope that motivates the two to give their all … and stop all this gossip about drugs, PED’s let’s make the fight happen and after then we investigate what…its not helping boxing and just very stupid

Mayweather will make up a reason to delay this fight with Mosley. Exactly the same he did against JMM. His excused then was broken ribs during sparring session. No question about doctors certification and no report which sparring partner did the damage. They kept it well secret from the media, which is unbelievable. Media knows everything but this time nobody seemed to know what had really happened. And GBP & Marquez accepted it. JMM is not even in the same caliber of Mosley and still made the delay. So what do you think he will do this time against Mosley? Mayweather has 2½ more months to think which tactic he´ll plan for this fight.
wow ARNEL… u dont know anything about boxing do you? the only fighters that mayweather fought that were smaller then him were hatton and marquez. every one else (and i mean EVERYONE) outweight him by at least 5 pounds on fight night. plus thats not as bad as bringing people down from their more natural weight class (Cotto, De la hoya) and fighting an obviously weight drained, damaged goods fighter. mayweather beats people wen their on top of their game while pacquiao trys to bring them down weight or fights people that have lost in the last year or two
Yor’re forgetting something Ben… Floydocaine needs to show up first before we can say that he’ll beat Mosley. The guy has a history of ducking fighters that has a chance of beating him, hence the fights with a slew of lightweights and below. On top of that, after the official weigh-in, he’ll bulk up like crazy to gain MORE advantage over his opponents and thereby protecting his “0″ defeats. And he dare calls himself the best “P4P” fighter out there???? Gimme a break.

Ther’s nothing need be discussed with Pacman vs Floyd. This fight will never happen. it’s good for the sports of boxing to have us all talking about it. Like in Golf, without Tiger ther’s nothing to talk about.
