Klitschko-Valuev fight is ‘Dead” – Vitali could fight Odlanier Solis – News
By Erik Schmidt: According to German news site Bild, World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (39-2, 37 KO’s) won’t be facing former WBA heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev (50-2, 34 KO’s). The two fighters were in negotiations for a fight, but Valuev’s management wanted $4 million for the seven-foot Valuev to fight Klitschko. The manager for Klitschko Bernd Bonte said that the fight with Valuev is “dead.” Bonte also said “Promoter [Don] King is crazy. His demands for Valuev are not acceptable.” Initially, Klitschko officered the 36-year-old Valuev $1 million to fight him.
Solis first has a fight to take care of next month against Carl Davis Drumond on March 20th. But if Solis can take care of that fight without being upset or badly cut or injured in any way, he could be in the picture for Klitschko for his next fight. Solis, 6’1”, has excellent hand speed and good power. He stopped Monte Barrett in the 2nd round in October. If there’s a knock on Solis it’s his weight.
Since turning pro in 2007, Solis has weighed in the mid 250s for most of his fights. And recently, Solis ballooned up to a huge 271 for his fight against Barrett. Solis seems to carry the extra fat well, but he would likely be a much better fighter if he could fight in the mid 230s or possibly lower. While fighting as an amateur as late as 2005, Solis weighed a slender 200 pounds.
But two years later, Solis had put on well over 50 pounds. In fairness to Solis, some of the weight was added muscle, but a good portion of it is fat. Solis would have a tough time against Vitali if he makes the mistake of entering the ring against Klitschko weighing in the 250s or bigger. Solis would have a clear advantage over Klitschko in hand speed, but if Solis has problems landing it could be a problem for him.
Contender Kevin Johnson, who lost to Klitschko in December, was able to land cleanly with some nice shots during the fight. Johnson was able to accomplish this by throwing fast punches and connecting to the head of Klitschko. If Johnson can do that to Klitschko, then the faster Solis will likely be able to do it as well.

After Haye gets knocked out I hope he gets a job at Sea World in the whale tank
Either Klitchko would be doing the Heavyweight division a massive favor by expelling Haye from the division. Haye will never take a fight with them, even the dumbest people have an inharent sense of fear and survival. You can see fear in Haye’s face when the work Klitchko is mentioned. I really doubt him getting by Ruiz. Then guys like Solis, Chambers, Hollyfield, Peter, Boytsov and Tua may have the privilidge of removing the RIFF RAFF, such as Haye from the scene.
Good,I didn’t want to see the borring and horrible fighter in Valuev fight Vitali anyways! Why was Vitali wanting this fight anyways?Valuev is NOT world class by anymeans at all! He’s slower than a turtle, hits like a big sissy and throws 5 punches a round!
The problem with boxing is these “champions” are running a business that is NOT designed to please the fans anymnore at all!Make as much money as possible with as little risk as possible, dam the fans! To all of you cherry picking and mouthy fighters you are NOTHING without the fans, period!
Man,I wish Evander Holyfield and guys like him were fighting in their primes today. They would wreck most of these guys at the top today and provide excetement doing so!I miss the 90′s
fighters!
cane david haye…you girls believe anything that falls out of haye’s mouth..including a fake back injury and a broken hand that mirculously healed without treatment…such as a cast…david haye would never have signed with king if he didnt want to be protected from real heavyweights…he would have fought vitali for free and been glad to do it…it is a chance of a lifetime and would have made him rich, famous and immortal, rather than just the fantasy of english school boys…now he will merely repeatedly defend his title against don king’s b-level stable and try and look tough while wearing stuff the village people discarded in the 70s….
McJack, I agree with you! Vitaliy is the best of the best!!!
Can’t wait for Vitali to shut Haye’s big, trash talking mouth.
For the most part boxing fans way under estimate Vitali Klitschko. He has improved dramatically since his fight with Lennox Lewis. There was not enough money in the world to get Lewis back in the ring with Vitali and now it’s too late.
Vitali is a breath of fresh air to boxing. Talking trash was funny when it was the great Muhammad Ali doing it. After all he was poetic, had charisma and could back up what he said. David Haye and the current crowd of Heavyweights are a bore to listen to and to watch. Once these guys get into the ring with Vitali, they quickly realize their mistake and appear to be terror stricken as was Kingpin Johnson. The Kingpin was scared to death and chose to fight like a scared little girl all night. Give Vitali the credit he deserves. He has never been behind in a fight, has never been down and has the highest KO perecentage of any heavyweight champion in boxing history. I think what is going on now is that people are not used to seeing a light complected guy that can kick everybody else’s ass. And before anyone calls me a racist. Joe Louis was and still is my all time idol. He handled the big guys the slick guys and everything else in between. He was heavyweight champ for 12 years, longer than any other champion in any division in the history of boxing. He also defended his title 25 times, which is also a record for any division. Check out Joe Louis on you tube.
Louis vs Max Baer, Louis vs Buddy Baer, who was 6’6” 250 lbs and hit like a mule. Knocked Louis clean out of the ring. Louis climbed back into the ring and kicked his butt.
Give Vitali Klitschko a break. He is a pretty damned good fighter.
haye will be destroyed by the klitschko brothers and at least 5 other top heavyweights mark my words, tua would crush his skull
Another fat undermotivated victim for Vitali.
klitchko scared of james toney last good heavy about
i guess don king is hurting for money? only superstars can get 4 million for a fight after a loss. and valuev is far from being one. he should have been grateful for getting 2. the guy just lost a belt and he was getting an immediate shot at another. i guess king knew that if valuev would have taken this fight, it would have been his last big fight cause vitali would have destroyed him.
Ruiz will fight Klitchko after he beats Haye, that will be the end of a good career for Ruiz…..and for the English fans they should have a pinching and screaming contest between David Haye and Elton John..
how could vitali wait for haye. haye has a rematch with valuev to do. not counting fighting the winner of meehan-chagaev fight. so it seen it will be a while for klitschko-haye.
Well well well Don King cant afford for one of his main money makers to lose 2 fights on the trot, not unless its worth while to him financially.
But then its no better than Vitali and his crew trying to cane David Haye on the contract table last year.
Erik Schmidt, Kevin Johnson landed a grand total of 65 puches in his bout against Vitali(ONLY 5 POWER PUNCHES), he lost every round and never was a threat to Vitali, so I don’t know what are you talking about.
Don King has totally lost touch with reality.
$1million to fight a klitcho, giving the big monster a final chance at a world title and he turns it down?
What other fights does don king believe are out there for a guy at the end of his career like valuev?
Haye has nothing to gain by fighting him again. Klitchos only wanted him to he can make haye look bad.
Other than a rematch with evander holyfield (boring), i dont see what else valuev has.
He should have taken the million, but to be honest after don king takes his share it would have only left valuev with a few thousands dollars.
Don King is wrecking Valuev’s career – I find it amazing he went 51 fights before he faced a real live contender in David Haye and you could tell that King thought Haye would struggle.
Valuev has fought neither of the Klitchkos, lost to Chagaev and struggled to beat Holyfield and Ruiz. After 51 fights you would expect many more names but thats it. Talk about protecting your investment.
JUST WAIT FOR THE FIGTH ( HOPEFULLY IT HAPPENS). YOU WILL SEE A DIFERENT HEAVY WEIGHT AND A NEW CONCEPT OF BOXING IN SOLIS. SOLIS IS GONNA WIN
solis is very good…too soon for him to fight a klitschko tho…he’s still learning in the pros.
shame the valuev fight didn’t happen…who will the fanboys say ducked who?
@DeanoFlash Haye isnt gonna fight Vitali Klitschko proberly so why would he waste time waiting for him?????
solis, though is the real future of the division…if he can stay in shape. haye looks the part and his nasty, truth twisting personality appeals to younger fans…haye is remarkable in one respect, he is making a career in boxing of being passive aggressive, didnt even think it was possible..
i read somewhere yesterday that if the valuev fight fell through there were talks of james toney fighting klitschko instead.
od lanier solis is skillfull fast good defence and hard hitting…. he hasnt had the peblicity of haye and areola cus hes gone about it quieter. the only worry is wether he can land on vatali cus hes 6 incjes smaller. he mite be better fighting the slightly smaller wvladamir.
haye has no intentions of fighting k. and one of those fat slobs beat haye for a gold medal…and ko’d barrett in 2 rather than 6…haye wouldnt get in the ring with solis for all the money in the world
I don’t get this….Odlanier Solis? thats 2 fat slobs in a row for Vitali, why can’t he just wait till Haye beats Ruiz?
