Khan says he’ll be fighting Timothy Bradley this year – News

By William Mackay: On his twitter page, World Boxing Association Amir Khan (22-1, 16 KO’s) says that he’ll be fighting unbeaten WBO light welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (25-0, 11 KO’s) this year in 2010. Khan says “It aint my problem [Juan Manuel] Marquez pulled out, and now we fighting Paulie Malignaggi. Tim Bradley will happen this year. Let me my debut in USA. I aint ducking nobody in this moment of time. Malignaggi is a great fight to enter U.S. Boxing is a business, Guys, and I need to make a living. Come on, Guys, why hate. I’m fighting Paulie Malignaggi, and will KO him. I am willing to make a loss in money in this fight just to shut mouths.”

Presumably, Khan is talking about Malignaggi when he mentions shutting mouths because if Khan thinks that his choice of Malignaggi as an opponent will be shutting the mouths of his critics, he’s probably sadly mistaken. Some boxing fans are happy with Khan’s choice of Malignaggi as an opponent, but it seems like a lot more wish Khan would have fought WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana instead.

At least Maidana, with his huge punching power, would have a chance to beat Khan. Malignaggi will likely have zero chance of beating Khan because he has no power to speak of.

The news that Khan will fight Bradley in 2010 is pretty interesting. Bradley is considered by many people to be the best fighter in the light welterweight division. If Khan is serious about fighting Bradley this year, that would be a huge step up from Andriy Kotelnik, Dmitri Salita and Malignaggi. It remains to be seen though whether Khan’s promotional company, Golden Boy Promotions, allows Khan to fight Bradley.

You could certainly say the same thing about Bradley as you do Maidana. He’s not a well known fighter to the casual boxing fans, and might not be worth the trouble that he would bring to the young Khan. It would win Khan a lot of respect if he fights Bradley, but casual boxing fans would probably care less if he does or not because Bradley isn’t a huge star yet. Of course, casual boxing fans in the United States have no idea who Khan either.

And if Khan keeps fighting guys like Salita and Malignaggi, they will likely continue to have no clue Khan is. For Khan to become a big star, he’s going to fight opponents with a big name and he needs to start fighting younger guys with talent instead of old fighters like Marco Antonio Barrera weaker ones like Malignaggi. The bad thing about Khan facing Bradley is that if he does face Bradley then it will mean that Khan won’t be fighting Maidana this year, and probably not in 2011 either.

The reason is Khan will probably get easily beaten and likely knocked out by Bradley. Once that happens, his promotional company won’t want to put him in with a killer puncher like Maidana and risk having Khan get beaten yet again. Khan will likely enter the rebuilding stage of his career once again like he did the time he was knocked out by Breidis Prescott in the 1st round in September 2008.

    @ Sherry

I can care less what race anyone is… I know for a fact Khan will be destroyed by Bradley… He is faster and stronger! Bottom line Bradley is a complete Champ! Bradley will put on a clinic, so Khan and all his followers better bring pens and pads… Lots of notes will be taken!!!

P.S. U can’t train someone to have a good chin, you do or you don’t!

  • sherry says:

    ….

  • Brandon says:

    @tails

Khan hasn’t even beat anyone at Witters level… We can’t say he is even at Witter’s level… Khan is not faster than Bradley, and he doesn’t have his power or chin… Bradley will destroy Khan! I hope this fight eventually happens, so everyone can get over Khan and realize Bradley is the best @ 140 period!

  • tails says:

Bradley managed to beat junior qwitter by decision for 1 of his titles and is highly overated. You can argue that khan is aswell but I think Khan would beat Bradley. Khan’s just too fast for him.

  • Brandon says:

    @ kabz

Bradley is ranked number 1 in the 140 weight class. Espn and every boxing site has him rated #1 in the world @ 140. Bradley has had the most title defenses and has beaten more top guys than the other title holders @ 140. Bradley isn’t taking any easy fights… Khan on the other hand, well he is taking the easy route.. He hasn’t fought the top 10 guys in the world, like Bradley has and Bradley has beaten top 10 guys already!!! Khan isn’t ready for Bradley, and won’t be ever… Bradley will destroy Khan, he can win however he wants. Let Khan have his amatuer fight with Paulie, then he can get beat down if he steps up to Bradley! I think maybe someone else is tweeting for Khan, cause he doesn’t want to face Bradley!!!

  • Cherry any one says:

  • kabz says:

oh so it was alright when hatton took on magic man, and every1 billed that up..anyway my argument to this article is how can u say bradley is a no1..bradley is the best out of the bunch, better that madiana, ortiz, cambell, alexander and the list goes on..jheezz if khan v bradley is really on boy that a big big step up! now shut ur mouth u wasteman

  • Mozz says:

If you want to shut mouths then fight somebody with a decent knockout percentage.

  • Mozz says:

If you want to shut mouths then fight someone with a decent KO%.

  • ali says:

btw its not amir khan on twitter its someone else he confirmed it he aint got the time for computers lol

  • dani says:

the bad thing about khan fighting bradley is that he will not face madiana this year …….i have seen some of these writers on video they are fat and overgrown pile of waste

  • Duke says:

how is fighting paulie gonna prepare khan for bradley? the dude doesn’t know what he’s talking about! he had a good year in 09 but bradley has been on tear against top notch junior welters. he’d beat paulie and khan in the same night. at least ricky nutted up and took on floyd and manny.

  • ipressbuttons says:

Malignaggi is well better than Maidiana!

  • kp says:

”From what Shaw had heard from several friends in the industry, there is a very interesting contract clause connected to the Maidana-Cayo fight. What is the clause you ask? Basically the winner has to stay away from WBA 140-pound champion Amir Khan for a period of twelve months or three fights – whichever comes first.

  • kp says:

    Marix

You really are a plonk. So far as regards the issue of Khan avoiding Maidana and not being able to fight him in the next 3 fights at least, it was wideky discussed. Heres an excerpt purportedly referencing Gary Shaw:

  • don piccolino says:

    shakeeb nawas
man stop making me laugh…really amir khan will beat an overhyped bradley…please, he didnt even fight john murray at LW….the poor lad has just been lied 2 by his trainers and his dad, who prob sees him as a cash cow.
Khan should really say nothing and go about KO decent opponents….i dnt think khan would step 2 junior witter…i recall him saying year ago…he wud be able beat pacquiao in the near future…then now hes sucking up 2 him and saying he can go rnds with him…So why cant do that with decent opponents without the safety gear 2 keep his ass in check….as 4 malignaggi khan shud fin him as fast as he did Salita.

  • Gillete says:

    Nonsense

Khan would leave those fighters in his slipstream

    get over it guys

the real deal is coming whether you like him or not

  • tonyevs says:

Khan states that `boxing is a buisiness` in defence of him fighting Malignaggi and not Maidana .. then adds he is losing money to fight Malignaggi … classic Khan .. he is as bright as a 10w bulb.

Its the same old story with him. He talks of fighting the best .. and then avoids them like the plague.

  • RMC says:

I’d like to see this fight when it happens……..oh I forgot it won’t!

  • Brusa says:

Alexander, Valero, Maidana, Bradley, all big names and khan has beaten? None!!! So why in the hell this guy talks like he is Chavez in his prime? He is just talk for now, pile at least two of this names and you will have some respect

  • Andrew says:

I like it when the media hypes up a guy who can punch. The fact is that Maidana CANNOT do anything else. He has minimal punch resistance (as witnessed in the Ortiz fight), and has no jab, only power shots. Malignaggi also said that Maidana is overrated and that Khan would KO him inside 6.

  • Marix says:

    KP
Seeing as you know all the facts about Khan, there’s really little point me adding my comments.
However, i think you talk a good game but are in fact, talking out of your rear-end!

If you are positive you know the facts then please inform us where you get this first-hand information? Maybe you could post a link or something?

Or as i suspect, you’ve probably read the comments somewhere else and used them as your own.
Plagiarism is a crime you know!!

  • Brandon says:

Anyone who thinks Khan has a chance against Bradley is a true dreamer! Let’s see, Bradley has beat Cherry, Holt, Peterson, Campbell (Campbell quit like a girl), Witter. Khan hasn’t fought one opponent @ any of those guys level. Bradley has a great chin, and great speed, and stays super busy in the ring. Bradley has enough punching power to finish Khan, everyone knows Khan has a suspect chin, and Bradley throws hard punches, he knocked down Witter, Cherry, Peterson. He can definetly knock out Khan… Let’s go Bradley, hopefully Khan doesn’t chicken out!

  • David says:

I believe these british haters are still fowllowing Khan in US, why is so much pain in their as- can’t understand that, especially this Oli guy whose as- is consistantly burning because of fire caused by khan. Put your as- Oli in cool water so it will sooth. Anyways Khan is going on the right path every boxer today needs to build their fight , boxing is a career oday and they need to earn so they have to be smart when making a move. Look at hatton he was facing bums in UK before coming to USA and look what happen when there was real deal he was packed by both Mayweather and Pacquaio and sent back to britain as a cake. Khan is man enough to start his career in USA soon he knows that there are hell lot of fighters there but still the kid is willing to face them but how his promotors want thats another thing. Ricky hatton was facing bumbs before and he was knocked out by the two good boxer of his time so what did he done so special that British hatters are posting silly comments about Khan. I believe most of the guys here posting against Khan are from UK because we Americans welcome fighters doesn’t matter fromw which race he belongs.

  • champ khan says:

i think great match.speed via defance

  • Jam says:

“Malignaggi will likely have zero chance of beating Khan …” But they don’t know that in America do they!!! that is the point, US debut,…daah

“You could certainly say the same thing about Bradley as you do Maidana. He’s not a well known fighter to the casual boxing fans….” But he has a belt, daah, and he is rated much more….

    you nonse

  • angel says:

talk is cheap. and that doesnt sound like khan anyway. are you getting this off twitter because you have the wrong account for khan on there

  • Oli says:

Khan has never even faced a world class yet, and he talks likes hes already been there and done that! Im saying now that malignaggi will beat him and show him up for the fraud he is. He said he was fighting maidana, it didnt happen, he says he will fight bradley…wont happen.

Khan really should keep his mouth shut, this is the reason why the entire country laughed its head off for a week straight, after Breidis Presscott put him in an ambulance that night.

Im telling you now, the kid has been lied to. Its all gunna end in dramatic fashion sooner or later, and it will be utter humiliation for Amir Khan and his crony followers

  • kp says:

shakeeb says ”why do you think he hasnt fought maidana”

well the answer is simple – maidana can punch and khan knows he has no chin . roach said months ago, even before salita fight that khan will vacate rather than fight maidan since maidana is dangerous puncher. He has no faith in khan, hence why he selects smaller old men or light hitters like kotelnik,

if you say maidana is unknown and a nobody hence why khan wont fight him, well , he seemed keen to fight salita who nobody had heard of. His excuse was, hes my mandatory…so when manadatory is soft, fight him, when he can pounch , duck him

  • kp says:

Khan will not fight bradley, this is just a tactic to make his critics think he is not taking soft opponents. khan has gone for the lightest puncher ever in the LW division, a guy with a damaged right hand who cannot even hit a punch bag in case it fractures again.

Khan wants hatton after PM, since he knows hatton is washed up.

He signed with gbp for min 3 fight deal, and then had a proviso put in that he cannot be made to fight maidan for at least 3 fights. says it all

he will not fight maidana, bradley, alexander or any other decent LW – all hype and zero substance

  • shakeeb NawaZ says:

Khan would expose the much overated Bradley and dispose of maidana. Why do you think he hasnt fought Maidana? There is no money for Khan and a fight with bradley will make more sense when his better known in the usa by dispatching of the weak Malagnaggi. In terms of gammon, Bradley would suit from such findings.

  • stu says:

bradley/khan should be a good fight…both guys need to step up a level. khan takes bradley imo.

but people need to stop talking about maidana…he is nothing special. he will be getting beat A LOT as he steps up. he’s a very one dimensional boxer. he’s a star cos he beat victor ortiz (after losing to kotelnik) but you may be forgetting that he got dropped twice in the ortiz fight. khan punches harder & quicker than ortiz & is a much better boxer. maidana has a punchers chance…that’s it. he is a nobody.

  • KASH SO FLASH says:

i think khan should just stay quiet because anything he says or does just gets always taken the wrong way or just gets hated. he’s in a no win situation to be honest and im shocked at how u can say maidana is bigger than bradley in US. maidana is nothing special, he gets more hit than he hits him self. he may have a powerful punch but thats not enuf to become a great fighter. if khan does fight maidana then people are going to say ‘ maidana was nothing special , khan needs to fight this person that person’ etc.

  • bruno says:

Bradley isn’t a power puncher and would be a good fight for Khan. As long as Bradley didn’t use his head I could see Khan beating him without too much trouble.

  • Pete says:

It is NOT Khan who decides his opponents. He was advised to face Marquez because that would put him on the map in the US, that fell through so now its Malignaggi who will showcase Khans talents.

After that he will be a star and it matters not who he fights (like Mayweather) people just want to see him fight. So he is not dodging anyone he is simply doing what is best for him and his name. I am sure he will fight Maidana, Bradley and anyone else who wants to challenge.

  • Pete says:

So Maidana is a bigger name then Malignaggi and Bradley? I don’t think so.

Khan will beat all three of these guys with zero problems. In fact I see Malignaggi as being the tricky opponent of the three. Bradley is there to be hit and will not be able to handle the faster and stronger Khan. Maidana will just walk into shots. Whereas Malignaggi is slippery and awkward, Khan has to use his boxing brain against Paulie.

Those who are saying Bradley would beat Khan have no clue, sure Bradley is a good fighter but Khan is a different level and will prove that to be the case in a very one-sided fight.

  • Sandy says:

Khan needs to put up or shut up! I hope Paulie beats his ass and exposes khan as the fraud he is!

  • kray says:

Khan has potential, but Malignaggi is no chump. He’s a good boxer, with a decent chin. He could very well take Khan to school. Timothy Bradley, on the other hand, may give him his final exam. From what I’ve seen of Khan, besides the KO he took, he has good fundamentals, and he will only improve under Roach.

  • Poor noynoys says:

LOL, in his dreams. GBP isn’t going to let Khan go anywhere near Bradley.

  • Doc Holiday says:

Gotta pay ya dues before you can crossover to the U.S and start acting like you the 2nd coming of Jesus! I wish this guy Khan the best but the hype is starting to irritate me!!

  • Supreme Court says:

The Coward also said he will face Maidana….

  • vinny says:

I’ll believe it when I see him in the ring with Bradley. He wouldn’t fight Maidana, so I am thinking that Khan is all talk.

  • patpump says:

Khan….another one who thinks he is much more than he really is, what’s in the water over there in Emgland. Khan. Froch and Haye are all crazy…..shut your mouths and let your fists do the talking…When they are all washed up maybe the BBC should put them on a Soap Opera

  • z says:

ill believe it when i see it, he avoids MM so why would i believe he will jump in the ring with TB?

  • Left Right says:

If he gets passed Paulie. Tim will whip as his for 5 rounds and then put em to sleep
