Kessler: “Froch is the sort of fighter I’ve been knocking over since I turned pro”
By William Mackay: Former World Boxing Association super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (42-2, 32 KO”s) feels good about his chances against WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-0, 20 KO’s) for their April 24th, Super Six tournament fight in Herning, Denmark. Kessler, 30, sees a slow fighter with a traditional European stand up fighting stance in the 32-year-old Froch and Kessler is really looking forward to getting in the boxing ring and exposing Froch’s noticeable flaws.
Kessler is describing Froch perfectly with this brief description of his fighting style. Kessler was beaten in his last fight by the young, quick Andre Ward by an 11 round technical decision on November 21st, 2009. Ward was the complete opposite of Froch, showing incredible speed, lightning like shots and outstanding defensive ability.
Kessler, who is more a stand up Euro fighter himself in the traditional mode, struggled from the onset of the fight against Ward and never was able to be competitive with him. However, as bad as Kessler looked in that fight, there’s a good chance that Froch would have looked even worse had he been in there with Ward. Froch has had troubles with his last two opponents, needing a knockout in the last seconds of his fight against Jermain Taylor last year to pull out the win, and winning a questionable 12 round decision over Andre Dirrell in his last fight in October 2009.
Froch won both of the fights, but it showed that Froch’s talent is hitting a ceiling, and it’s unclear how much farther he can go before he starts getting beat. It may be that Froch will suffer his first defeat against Kessler, as he’s fighting someone with better boxing skills, speed and who will be fighting at home in front of a large crowd in Denmark. If the fight goes to a decision, Froch, unless is able to knock Kessler down, he could end up losing the fight to the Dane.

Kessler talks about Froch not moving his head?Kessler only moves his head when he gets hit! lol
I think these two are going to put on one hell of a fight as they both come straight ahead and throw leather. This is probably going to turn into a pretty dam good fight!
Kessler isnt as fast as Dirrell and Taylor but then Froch isnt as fast as Ward.
This could turn out to be fight of the year, screw your Mayweathers and your Pacmans these 2 are pretty much go toe to toe till something happens.
Kessler was made to look awful against Ward but he wont find any trouble getting into the range of Froch and will look so much better, but then Froch doesnt seem to care about what people throw at him and Kessler wont of dazzled his way out of Frochs way like Taylor and Direll were doing.
Its guna be messy and i have NO IDEA whose guna win. Mainly cuz i cant decide if Kessler is on the decline or if Ward just made him look so bad. I think a prime Kessler has too much for Froch who would walk into too much eventually. But i dont know if Kesslers prime.
I know im sure i could of made that shorter.
pete…. i agree u cant compare kessler to dirrell and taylor! froch was always going to struggle against them cus there quick fighters who like to stick and move. kessler likes to fight in the middle so he’ll stand and trade. i think this will be a great fight! i still pick kessler though cus he has better skills and frochs guard is too low!
Personally, I think Froch is getting better not “hitting a ceiling”. Against Taylor it was the first time he had fought away from home in a hostile arena and it shook him. He has learnt from that now. Against Dirrell he had problems with speed but so will everyone else that faces Dirrell…. at least Froch got through it with a win.
Kessler is not as fast as Taylor or Dirrell. Kessler does not have the skills of Taylor and Dirrell. Kessler is over-rated and Froch will out gun him, have better stamina and has more heart. I don’t see past a Froch win – late stopage.
