Juan Diaz accepts Katsidis’ challenge

By Sean McDaniel: Former lightweight champion Juan Diaz (35-3, 17 KO’s) didn’t hesitate to accept Australian WBO lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis’ recent challenge for a fight on March 27th. Diaz’s manager, Willie Savannah sent word that Diaz wants the Katsidis fight, saying “Juan Diaz responds to Michael Katsidis challenge! Juan Baby Bull Diaz will gladly accept the challenge of Michael Katsidis for a rematch! Diaz has been impressed with Katsidis last couple of performances and feels like this would be a great fight! Let’s do it! Make it happen!”

Now, Katsidis has to do something with his planned March 27th fight against Robert Guerrero (25-1, 17 KO’s), which was supposed to be televised on HBO. It’s unclear whether HBO will want to show Katsidis-Diaz or not at this time, given that Diaz has lost three out of his last five fights in the past two years.

That’s not very impressive, especially when compared to Guerrero, who hasn’t lost a fight since 2005 and who recently won the International Boxing Federation super featherweight title with a 12 round decision victory over Malcolm Klassen in August 2009.

I would like to see a rematch but not if it means canceling the Guerrero fight! I love Diaz but I much rather see that even thought Guerrero would probablu just give Katsidis a boxing lesson!

    Kevin,
What makes you say that? Baby bull only yhas 3 loses with the exception of mallinagi who out boxed him that’s a very good record. Idk what makes you think 3 losses is bad? Id like to see you become unified champ and lose just 3 fights before your 30 hah
