John Ruiz: “Margarito should not be allowed to fight anymore”

By Eric Thomas: In an interview with Primera Hora, former two time heavyweight champion of the world John Ruiz says that he doesn’t think that Antonio Margarito should be a allowed to fight anymore. Margarito was caught with a foreign substance in his hand wraps a year ago before his fight against Shane Mosley in January 2009. The substance was later determined to be an illegal plaster like chemical and Margarito was subsequently banned for a year by the California Athletic Commission.
In the meantime, Ruiz, commenting on the thought of Margarito being allowed to continue fighting, said “One of the serious problems of boxing is that despite the regulations, looking around him to cheat. This is a sport where he put out lives at risk every time we go up to fight, but Texas is still considering to allow a boxer back in the ring, even though he did something wrong.”

Fighters juice up so they can be bigger, stronger, quicker and hit harder then whoever they get in the ring with.
A fighter putting something on they’re hands, does it so they can do a lot more damage then they could with just they’re fist.
Not to beat someone to the punch.
Not to be able to take more punches.
Not to throw harder or last longer.
Purely to inflict enough damage to win the fight.
PEDs and loaded gloves are both cheating, but loading your gloves is a malicious act and is no different to taking a weapon into the ring.
Margarito should be facing jail, not re-applying for a licence.
I don’t wanna listen to anyone defending him, the facts are out there, if I was mexican I’d be truly ashamed of him, he’s dragged boxing down and is a disgrace.
does n e one know if the trainer that put the plaster in antonios hand will be the same trainer? or will it be a different one?
boxing needs margarito, just give him a lie detector test…to prove if he intended or was unaware of the plasterlike strip under the wraps…end of story
Margarito should be given a last chance to make a living. Boxing is his bread and butter and it puts food on the table for his family. Anyway he said that he had no knowledge what his trainer was wrapping him with thats why he has’nt apologized for it.
Margarito should certainly be allowed to fight as much as he wants to ,boxing is a rough tough nasty sport, Margarito fits well in the game, and who knows what Mosley was on when he beat him.

Yes Aaron Pryor had to be on something .I f anybody seen those two fights againest aleixis Argulo ,No one could have taken them punches.
I feel Margarito paid his dues.The hand wraps should have been caught a long time ago.There are more people watching in the locker room who missed it.I feel the only reason margarito lost to mosley was when he got caught it f.u.c.k. his head up.You have had many that that cheat in the past.Ali,Chico with mouth piece,holmes long count againest snipes,Hitting after bell .I beleive they know what they are doing Etc. I agree that margarito should be banned for life for trying to cheat, but, have you people EVER been behind the courtains of a boxing match?, i have, and let me tell you, whoever doesn’t send someone from his own corner to check on the opponents wrappings is an idiot, i have seen this even in amateur fights, i cannot imagine a professional boxing match not being monitored by someone by either the boxing commission, the fighters corner, or the event organizers, so in my opinion his record shouldn’t be questioned.
Cheating is cheating, mayweather is fighting Mosley because he is the man people want him to fight besides steroidquiao, but, he had said in the past that he wouldn’t fight him [Mosley] for his use of steroids, i guess they call him money for a reason.
Margarito got caught trying to cheat, not cheating, Cotto said that Margaro would never make a penny out of him ever again, so a rematch isn´t likely to happen, i guess all i can expect to see is if he keeps up his reputation or if he just gets exposed as a cheater by not winning a single fight from now on, you know that from now on he will be under heavy scrutiny.
Luis Resto’s case is different because he actually cheated and injured his opponent, but Billy Collins’s (RIP) ultimate demise was his fathers greed.
El clearly you do not realize the severity of what Margarito was doing, he should be banned for life because he brought a weapon into the ring that could have killed someone. It is very different than taking steriods & does not even belong in the same discussion.
If margarito is to be banned for life for cheating. Then all the other ones who have cheated should be ban for life. Mosley is one of them. if your going to be fair then be fair to everyone.
What do you have to do to get a life ban in this sport?
How can you take margarito seriously anymore? Everything hes done in boxing now is a sham. Who knows how long it was going on for. Personally i think him and capatillo should have gone to jail. It has to be a life ban

Peronally,I think he ruined Cottos career. A beating like the one that margacheato gave cotto is one of those beating that destroy a fighter both physically and psychologically. They need to throw
the book a him regardless of how much boxing needs superstars and “names” nowadays. Boxing is already a ruined sport. Getting rid of
someone who helps ruin it wouldn’t change a thing.
The only guy who should be banned is Ruiz personally I think this guy sucks as a fighter. Plus you would be a hypocrite to say that Margarito should be banned and not mosley isn’t taking steroids cheating didn’t he put Oscar’s life in jeopardy. I think he should be allowed to fight but only if he confesses to loading his gloves and to which fighters he fought with those loaded gloves.

Personally I think Cotto should do a rematch with margarito this time cotto has a chance to redeem himself after that fight that made him personally let down.
