Fantasy Super Six

By Sean Pollock: The world of boxing has many champions…too many in most peoples opinion. There are numerous organizations promoting their own belt, and with many belts in just one division it can get confusing.

The Super-Middle weight ‘Super Sixes’ tournament that we have seen in action recently really has had me thinking every division should try some sort of elimination event to decide the real lineal champions.

I put together a few ‘Fantasy Super Sixes’ tournaments here to see who people think would come out victorious!

Heavyweights

This one would mean the Klitschko’s get it on.

Wladimir Klitschko
Vitali Klitschko
David Haye
Tomasz Adamek
Nikolay Valuev
Ruslan Chagaev

My winner: Vitali Klitschko
Runner up: David Haye

Welterweight

A bit of weight maneuvering to get everyone at 147 and we’d have some great fights here I think!

Floyd Mayweather Jr
Manny Pacquiao
Shane Mosley
Miguel Cotto
Paul Williams (could get down to weight?)
Antonio Margarito

This was a really hard one to pick a winner- some mouth watering fights to be had here, could really go either way between Pacquiao-Mayweather-Williams.

My winner: Floyd Mayweather Jr
Runner up: Paul Williams

Light-Welterweight

Timothy Bradley
Ricky Hatton
Amir Kahn
Marcos Maidana
Paulie Malignaggi
Juan Manuel Marquez
Very tempted to put Edwin Valero in the mixer, but yet unknown at this weight.

My winner: Timothy Bradley

Runner Up: Amir Khan (I’m not even an Amir fan!)

We could argue over the 6 who could even compete, but who would you put as your winners?

    Light Welterweight
    Timothy Bradley (down twice against holt, couldnt handle power from Mitchell or Maidana)
    Ricky Hatton (past it, dodgy chin)
    Amir Kahn (dodgy chin)
    Marcos Maidana (would be completely outclassed against Mitchell like Bredis Prescot was)
    Kevin Mitchell (31 wins 23 ko 0 losses)
    Juan Manuel Marquez
    My Winner: Kevin Mitchel
    Runner up: Marcos Maidana

    You need to lay off Khans bumhole mate, he’s a good fighter but believe me he’ll get sparked for sure in 12-18 months time. No punch resistance whatsoever! Fact: Boxers get hit! Fact: Khan can’t take hit!

  • Lee cooo says:

    I think floyd beats anyone but williams at welter, not because williams is better just the sheer size difference. Williams is good but isnt he about 6’1 / 6’2 . Manny wouldnt stand a chance either. Vitali would beat haye. Id give khan the nod at light-welt because of his speed but any of those fighters could beat him if they connect with that jaw made of straw.

  • Bob says:

    My winners at welter Paul Williams if he can’t get down Manny Pacquiao. At Jr welter Edwin Valero if he enters, if not Tim Bradley

  • alex says:

    Ryan Dunn is a fool. Miguel Cotto -4??? He beat S.M already back in November 2008! There is a +1 for you bud.He has a good shot at beating the rest as well, as long as no catch weight is required (pacman)!

  • Macca says:

    ricky hatton is still the best light-welterweight in the world

  • Sean P says:

    @Jerry

    Sorry Bell end, didnt realise you were the next Teddy Atlas.
    Just because what you think is right, doesnt make me wrong. It’s ‘fantasy’ , just speculation. Not as if many of these fights are going to happen. We could argue over the 6 who could have been picked, but i picked them 6, so move on. Your an idiot.

  • Ukansodoff says:

    Im liking the Super Middle version, id like to see the same thing happen in any other divisions.

    But people struggle to get Mayweather in with Any top Welterweight, how would they manage getting him to sign up to fighting 3 or 4 or 5 of them?

  • Bazooka Joe says:

    Nice article and good food for thought, if the big players in game who want to see change happen like roy jones jr and money mayweather. This would be a good venue to impliment such reforms to boxing like the random bloodtests and excitment to a sport that has had its moments of shame.

  • jerry says:

    sean pilluck i mean pollok lol you know zilch about boxing, how can yo not put alexander and ortiz in there, alexander would beat bradley easily mark my words so would khan, the final would be between alexander n khan !!!

  • SJG13 says:

    Heavy: Vitali
    Welter: Williams
    Jr. Welter: Bradley

  • nipper says:

    heavy= david haye
    light heavy= chad dawson
    middle weight= kelly pavlik
    welter = manny
    light welter = hatton
    light weight = valero

  • lex_fugitive says:

    Ryan;
    I actually agree with most of your picks. Not sure about Khan-Bradley, I haven’t seen either of them fight, but Bradley seems to be thought more highly of. Also, I would have Marquez over Hatton all day long. That and you have Malignaggi fighting Malignaggi. Other than that you’re picks seem good, but the Super Six is awarded points on how they win, more for a KO and less for a decision. So, how everyone wins matters too, which could complicate matters.

    @ oli

    in the old day when you told anyone you decided to be in boxing,the first thing friends would ask you are you a slugger or a boxer,you had to be one or the other .ali was a boxer and foreman,norton were slugger.

  • roys says:

    ha,you love boxers yes? must be and old guys,jk. dont you know boxer are on they way out? look at all the great mexican boxers, the petty pat dance on your toes you cant hit me boxer ,their being replace ,or beaten by the new hybrid fighter,pac velero,who else? their half boxer,half sluggers,their one up on boxer,they can box,counter,and angle punch, and they punch so hard that most people think their cheating and are on steroids.its all about Fancy footwork. boxers are old school,their going to be clean out.this going to be exciting ,pick your side.

  • a muldoon says:

    anyone thinking hatton would beat khan wants their head testing, bradley would swarm him, and marquez would knock him out late. he was/is overrrated.

  • Doc Holiday says:

    To FIGHT FAN…out of all of this the only thing you come up with is PBF not fighting PWILL lol quit hating and get a life JACKASS!! Put big money up and i bet PBF would not only fight him but he would Diego his ass.

  • graham says:

    Anonymous,

    Paul williams went in with Margarito and came out on top. Yes the fight with Martinez did put a few question marks over Williams. I thought Williams would have learned a lesson from his fights with Qunitana but it seems he’s a slow learner. May be Williams and Martinez should step into the ring again.
    I don’t think Williams is overated though.

  • Wildnature says:

    My super six would be:

    Feather division: Gamboa, Lopez, John, Caballero, Concepcion and Rojas (or R. Marquez). My favourite Gamboa and John

    Light division: JM Marquez, Valero, Katsidis, Funeka, Casamayor and Diaz (or Moses). My favourites: Marquez and Valero

    Lightwelter: Bradley, Khan, Maidana, Alexander, Hatton and Urango (or Holt). My favourites: Bradley and Alexander

    Welter: Mosley, Mayweather, Williams, Pacquiao, Cotto and Berto (or Margarito). My favourite: Williams and Mosley

    In the heavyweight division there aren’t competition, the brothers Klitschko should be the winnners

    Sorted the type error. Thanks.

    @Anonymous
    I disagree with you, Paul Williams ISNT over-rated.

  • Sean P says:

    @Everyone

    Massive Apologies to everyone. I sent the wrong version in.
    VERY SLOPPY, NO excuse!!

    …The Mosley repeat was in the actual article Marigarito.

    …again, APOLGIES!

  • milosands says:

    What is the big deal with Bradley? Why is everyone saying he would win this and win that… Hatton, Khan and Valero will beat him easy. Watch this space.

  • Anonymous says:

    Im sorry guys, Paul Williams is over rated… I would love nothing more in this world than to see those fights yall are talking about, but all I have to say is that both Amir Khan and Paul Williams are over rated! Sorry, they just are!

    Look, Amir Khan got knocked the F*** out in 2 rounds by a nobody. Then Paul Williams basically DID LOSE against Martinez, but the judges were picking “their boy”. By the way, Martinez isnt even a real champion level calibur. Im sorry, I think Pac and Mayweather, but then again I would like to see Shane fight Williams just to see for myself.

  • Onin says:

    And how will Mosley fight Mosley?

  • graham says:

    I agree with you on Vitali and Mayweather but am not sure about your third list. I have seen Valero vs Demarco and i was really impressed with Valero. I haven’t made a real analysis on this guy compared to the others but i can see that right hook controlling Bradley and the left coming through quite easily.
    Amir Khan second? No chance.

  • Rich says:

    Very poor, Mosley mentioned twice in the same 6? Surely he’ll have double the chance of winning then?!!

  • D-Nunan says:

    A super 6 at welter with the fighters u hav there would be top notch! some cracking fights there

  • jmm says:

    heavy=the hayemaker
    welter the pacman
    light welter the hitman ( kahn ko’d in 10 seconds FLAT)

  • Fight Fan says:

    Fantasy is all it is. Does anyone in their wildest dreams think that Mayweather would fight Paul Williams?
