Escalante wins by unanimous over Roman
By Sam Gregory: In the main event on the February 26th edition of ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights from El Paso, Texas hometown favorite Antonio Escalante 22-2 with 14 KO’s fought Mickey Roman 28-6 with 20 KO’s in a scheduled 10 round bout in the featherweight division.
From the opening bell this was a very tough fought fight with both men throwing and landing hard shots with enough on their punches to end the fight at any time.
By the fourth round Escalante stepped up the pace of the fight. At the start of the fifth round both men came out swinging hard trying to end the fight early.
In the sixth and seventh rounds Escalante again stepped up the pace of the fight.
Escalante had Roman against the ropes in the eighth round but Roman kept pushing forward never letting up on applying pressure to Escalante.
By the tenth and final round it was obvious that Escalante was too fast and too talented for Roman.
After the tenth and final round the fight went to the judge’s scorecards: 97-92, and 96-93 twice for the winner by unanimous decision Antonio Escalante.
Escalante improved his record to 23-2 with 14 KO’s while Miguel “Mickey” Roman fell to 28-7 with 20 KO’s.

this was a really good fight both showed heart, good luck to both fighters, got a chance to talk to Escalante great person not stuck up like alot of other fighters, he really cares about his fans,
This was a fight that once again showed the difference in the courage and never say die make up of the Mexican/Latino fighters who in my opinion saved whats left of boxing. These guys fight whoever is put in front of them and I mean FIGHT Viva Mexico, The usa “fighters” who picked their opponents and ran and clinched their way to whatever fame and money they made,Dam near killed the sport i love
I am glad that escalante beat the bully of roman, after hearing all those stories of roman and his older brothers bullying escalante when he was a kid… I am just glad that he got his ass kicked
