Do Pacquiao’s fans care who he fights?

By Chris Williams: In reading some of the comments of Manny Pacquiao’s fans, it seems many of them could careless whether he fights a good opponent or a crappy one. Many of them openly say they don’t care. That is so hard me to understand as a boxing writer. How can you not care? Is it that they just like to see the guy fight and don’t care that they’re paying money to see him. I know that in Philippines it’s free to see him fight, but for fans in the United States, they have to fork over big bucks to see a typical Pacquiao fight.

Wouldn’t they want to see him fight the best fighters every time out rather than someone who is over the hill, shot or maybe around the 10th best welterweight rather than the best? For me, if I had a favorite fighter, I surely wouldn’t gladly plunk down $50 to see him fight less than the best fighters.

If he was fighting a bunch of fighters that I considered to be lousy, not only would I not pay to see his fights, but I would probably stop watching the dudes fight altogether. I want to see competitive fights, not mismatches. I’m not just happy to see a mismatch for a favorite fighter. Once I see they’re just going through the motions, padding their record and looking for just money fights, I move on.

I don’t mind seeing a fan that has undying devotion to a fighter, but come on; you got to speak your mind if you think that fighter isn’t fighting the best opponent.

“That is so hard me to understand as a boxing writer.” – Chris Williams

Sorry Chris but I wouldn’t call you a boxing writer. It is obvious that you have either an undying devotion yourself to Big Mouth Floyd or you just plainly hate Manny Paqcuiao. Whichever it is makes you unprofessional and therefore not a real boxing writer. Grow up before you write another article. Until then have fun in the sandbox!

  • CHEEKA says:

The only time I was a “little” disappointed on PACMAN’s fight was when he knocked out Hatton and finished the game in less than two rounds. That was 60 bucks down the toilet.

  • Realbox says:

“What is the point of criticizing Pacquiao’s fans??? It is my observation that his fans are the most polite and respectful in the boxing world.”

LOL, come on, most of them are some of the worst and ignorant fans of this sport and if you happen to differ with their opinion (pac no matter what) you are:

    A bias writter.
Not a writter at all, don’t flatter yourself.
    Ignorant.
Your name is instantly turned into the opposite gender (Manuel=Manuela) they love to do this.

And i could go on, this is just from this site, i dare not venture to other forums to witness their full potential.

    @lex_fugitive…

Aint NO fans except probably YOU is that stupid, certainly NOT pacfans! We all know is not possible to start negotianing with someone who is already set to fight two weeks before AND we all know its NOT possible to start negotianing with other party until its completely cancelled. AND everyone knows that the first person that Floyd wants to fight was Paulie Malignaggi ! When Pac already made contract with Clotty all of a sudden the fight between Mosley and Berto was cancelled because Verto had to go back and help his family in Haiti because of the earthquake…. That left Mosley with no one to fight with so Floyds Promoters and Golden Boy Promotions (who promotes both) suggested and insisted that Floyd should fight Mosley instead. At first Floyd hesitated but since the money was better than with Malignaggi he accepted…also because Mosley accepted any amount of money as long as its over $600k dollars !

Besides, this Mosley thats going to fight Mayweather already lost to Cotto!! And Cotto was already destroyed and demolished by Pacquaio !!
So WTF are u talking about…R u sure u know what ur talking about ??

And Paul Williams is just too tall 6′-1″ vs Pacquiao 5-6-1/2″, a reach of 82″ vs Pacquiao with 62″…whos got the most advantage u think ??

Since Floyd thinks hes so good and better than Pacquiao then why dont he fight Paul Williams first then ? geeezzzzzz !!

  • jo says:

No disrespect Mansterr, but at the time Freddie Roach made the comments about Shane Mosley being too good for Pacquiao he was serious about it. Since the Cotto fight his opinion might have changed, but he was serious. The Mosley fight would have actually been a better fight than the Cotto fight taking in account that Cotto had lost to Margaritto not to long before that fight and Mosley had won his last fight against Margaritto.

  • jo says:

People say Mayweather Jr was forced into this Mosley fight.
Come on now, if somebody is scared to fight someone it doesn’t matter what the fans do or say they’re not going to fight that person. Nough said.

  • Pacquiao has the integrety to always "give a good fight" with some one good says:

I will watch Pacman fight anyone because Pacquiao has the integrety to always “give a good fight” with some one who most think could beat him before the fight. He always leaves it all out in the ring.

Other fighters (Mayweather and Malignaggi in particular) talk better then they fight. They promise fireworks but deliver only a marathon and sniper lessons usually against vastly inferior talent. Pure boxing, ok. Entertainment value, not ok.

Cultural differences can never be understood by narrow minded persons who believes in lies thrown at a person over and over again. Eventually, that lie becomes truth to them because of constant repetition. Prove it with facts and not hearsays, otherwise you cant prove anything at all.

    Tell everyone here,
    1. WHAT AND HOW IS THE PROCEDURE IN CLEANSING THE BODY OF STEROIDS?
    2. HOW LONG IS THE DURATION OF STEROID INSIDE THE BODY IN ORDER TO BE RENDERED UNDETECTABLE?
    3. HOW DOES IT DIFFER IF YOU TAKE THE BLOOD TEST BEFORE THE FIGHT, OTHER THAN AFTER THE FIGHT?
    4. IS IT TRUE THAT IN ORDER TO CLEANSE THE BODY OF STEROID EFFECTIVELY, FASTING IS REQUIRED?

Now, if you’re a smart guy, and your weight is already at the given limit, will you do FASTING for a few days or even 2 weeks before the fight?

Love of something you like most (Like the sport of boxing) is greater than the love of money. If you place something so dear and Holy first, you will find contentment beyond what money can give.

  • EIN says:

    @Ryan,

You got it rigth. I’m buying PPV for Mosley-Mayweather fight not because of the fight itself, but, because I want to see Mosley kick the as of Mayweather. Hence, my PPV will count in favor of Mosley and not to Mayweather.

  • bonito says:

How many times did Manny Pacquiao made 1 Million PPV buys ? . I know that true boxing fans knows Manny Pacquiao did it only one time in all his fights , just ONE TIME EVER in his CAREER .
How many times did Floyd Mayweather made Over 1 Mil PPV buys ? .
Please compare : pacquiao vs Marquez
    : Mayweather vs Marquez
Which fight made more money .even you said that pacquiao had more fans than mayweather .
Please compare : pacquiao vs Hatton
    : Mayweather vs hatton
Which fight made more money even you said that mayweather had no fans
please compare : pacquiao vs De La Hoya
: Mayweather vs De La Hoya
Fighting the SAME Opponent mayweather made more Alot more money that Pacquiao did and for a bonus mayweather made over 1 Mil PPV buys for every fight . cau you say that about manny pacquiao .??
my question is : Can manny pacquiao Ever out Sell money man floyd mayweather ????

  • fightfan22 says:

    @Ryan:
Sugar Shane has a bigger draw than Floyd? Are you crazy? Yea he’s such a big draw that his fight with berto was going to be on regular hbo, not ppv. Floyd is a bigger draw than even Manny. Recently these 2 fighters have 3 common opponents: Oscar, Hatton, and JMM. The reason is that people who don’t like pacquiao don’t pay to watch his fights, only his hard-core bandwagon fans. Floyd on the other hand everybody pays to watch him. His fans will pay all the time and then the haters like you pay also just to try and watch him lose. I honestly believe Floyd does this on purpose to sell more.

  • Ryan says:

The boxing gods will once again show the world who’s the true pound for pound. It’s going to be funny when Manny and Clotty’s PPV’s out sell Mayweather and Mosely. This douche bag of a writer is forgetting that Manny Pac-Man is beloved by all true boxing fans and casual fans world wide not just in America where less then 1/4 of 1/4 of the American fans actually like Floyd. The only reason Floyd might have decent PPV sales is not because of Floyd it’s because Sugar Shane has a bigger draw. Everyones rooting for Sugar Shane to knock his ass out. To set up the true pound for pound battle of all time.

  • lex_fugitive says:

Mosley and Berto were still scheduled when Floyd started negotations with Sugar Shane. Williams was out there without anyone scheduled. Manny simply didn’t want any of the top welterweights out there. Come on, he even had Roach tell Mosley he’s too good! As long as Manny keeps picking B or C level opponents his die-hard fans will be happy, they just don’t want to see him fight the best, because they know he would lose. Manny was in a rush to sign anyone that wasn’t an elite fighter AGAIN. And he did, so his die-hard fans are happy that he is refusing to challenge himself and that Manny continues to carefully cherry-pick opponents. Floyd is fighting the guy that is too good for Manny on May 1. The two best welterweights tried to fight Manny, but Manny had excuses for both and refused to fight both of them, so now they are fighting each other and Manny is fighting a B grade fighter.

  • Xray says:

Clottey is not a bad choice considering Mosley was going to fight Berto. When the fight with Mayweather was cancelled Mosley and Berto were still in session. And Pacquiao has to fight someone for the March 13 fight as hes got that political campaining he has to do by May -so he cant waste his time…There was talk of Malignaggi but that was just a joke ( sorry Paulie). Yuri Foreman was just too tall with Yuri having a long reach advantage…so whos a logical choice ? Clottey….hes not bad at all…actually hes in the top 5 Welterweights….

Clottey has fought 39 times with 35 Wins, 20 KO and just 3 losses…that’s not bad and hes no #5 or no #6 in the Welterweight rankings… No. #2 fight was canceled, No. #3 and #4 was going to fight and No. #5 has already been KO ! so Clottey is the logical choice !!

Dont try to make it sound as if Pacquiao is tryng to choose a lesser opponents…

  • aha!! says:

pac fans dont care who he fights coz theres nothing to worry about because he only fights the toughest opponents out there unlike floy who cherry picked on opponents. whats the difference between pac fans and floy fans? floy fans..floy could…cotto, floy could…margarito, floy could..williams, floy could..pacquiao, DREAM ON!.. only if floy could but he couldnt coz he is a coward unlike pacquiao. he wouldnt fight anyone who he is not confident he couldnt beat!!

  • BurritoMan says:

    Chris,

Here in DC, the Verizon Center is mostly empty this year because of the dismal record the Wizards have. But when the Lakers were in town, you could not get a ticket a month before the game, not to mention that the average ticket jumped from $28 to $400. This is all in spite of kowing beforehand who is obvioulsy gonna win the game. Why? Kobe Bryant and simply because it’s the Lakers. Sometimes, it’s not how competitive the fight’s gonna be. That’show big of an attraction Pacquiao has become. My Mexican friends are flying to Dallas just to see him. Can you comprehend that picture? Buying the PPV is the cheap way my friend.

  • Sugar Ray says:

Pac fans definitely care who he fights unfortunately the fight they wanted to see included Pety Boy Fraud and he is as brilliant slipping/countering “punches” in and out of the ring. clottey is ranked #1 for da title that pac holds. on top of all that pac still brings that element of unpredictability, if you will. eg KO power in both hands, willing to trade with anybody, taking punishment during exchanges, often seems off balance in attack or retreat. all this creating a sort of nervous excitability of whether he’s gonna catch his opponent flush or he himself get caught, we all know his defense is something to be desired.

  • fly ty says:

@jo thats actually right, zab is the best welter clottey beat. zab is also the best true welter mayweather beat. and for those still speaking upon cotto and catchweight, most of cotto’s ko wins came at 140 and he carried his power into 147 and hopefully 154 vs foreman. two years ago a fight between pac and clottey wouldve had pac as a serious underdog. Perhaps hating is just undercover loving. now that we’re aware of what pac’s capable of, he must be underachieving. clottey is tough and arums keeping evrything in house.

  • jo says:

I’m not trying to discredit Clottey, but the truth is the best welterweight he ever defeated in his career was Zab Judah. When you look at his style he has a history of not throwing enough punches and he’ll be facing a guy who throws non-stop punches in Manny Pacquiao. Style wise this is a mis-match that’s why Clottey is being treated as a turkey.

  • 1234 says:

no matter who Pac fights and beats there will be critics. If and when he beats Mayweather someone will make an excuse on why Pac won and Mayweather lost. Watch you will see. Hell I am willing to bet when Mosley beats Mayweather there will be excuses why Mayweather did not win.

  • crottyruh says:

This writer wants to see a competitive fight, not a mismatch. Yeah…. alright. I bet he’s sitting beside Dave Lahr and ALex Fugate watching Mayweather-Marquez. What a joke. These people are comedians.

  • lakandula says:

    @ mr. sweetsci,

LMAO! I did’nt bother reading pinoypower’s post thoroughly, but man.. you are right, one of the dumbest post I’ve read.. I tried reading it aloud, man I can’t stop laughing..
    oh gosh.. floydfans..

  • Onin says:

Who do you suggest he should fight? C’mon, Clottey’s the top contender for Pac’s belt. The duck didn’t want the fight, Mosley and Berto were scheduled to fight then. Don’t even try mentioning Paul Williams, because if ever a fight with Williams gets made at welterweight, you’ll all be screaming “CATCH-WEIGHT AGAIN?” Leave a comment for another viable opponent besides Clottey. And oh… Pac brought back excitement into boxing and he carried the sport in his shoulders when UFC/MMA is becoming more popular. You can’t fail to watch a “Fighter of the Decade” in action.

  • RNC says:

    Matthew

Is that the same Baldomir that was the lineal champion at 147? The same Baldomir that beat Clotttey?

    - – - –

That’s the one, refer to mr.sweetsci’s post. Clottey was up by the tenth, Baldomir wasn’t going to win that any other way than DQ.

Why so silent about the other two fighters I mentioned?

I’ll give you another while you think, DeMarcus Corley.

The thing is, these aren’t fighters that Mayweather fought at the start of his career. He has undoubted talent, but his record is littered with cans.

  • Gene' says:

You (writer) want a tougher fight for Pacquiao and I think Pac himself wants the same. He thought PBF challenge is true to his words but with all the bs demands that suddenly crop up from nowhere, Pacquiao had no choice but to fight who is available. Remember he contemplated fighting Floyd before the May election in Philippines. It’s only appropriate for team Pacman to be prudent and not to waste the preparations already made. Thus Clottey came into the scenario. Mosley was not even available during the failed negotiations with PBF because of the scheduled fight with Berto.

  • mr.sweetsci says:

lex_f……don’t you know that ali is also coming back to fight manny pacquiao? it’s coming soon. just wait for it. it’s going to be the biggest fight in boxing history.

  • mr.sweetsci says:

matthew….everybody knows how clottey lost to baldomir. through disqualification. as a matter of fact clottey was ahead on the 3 judges scorecards when clottey was disqualified. yeah…you can argue that a win is a win. but that’s you can say.

  • mr.sweetsci says:

hey lex_f…..you are worse than a broken record. it’s just my opinion though. you’re making me laugh. are you related to Chris Williams or David Lahr? you guys have one thing in common, you know what i mean. hahahahaha.

  • Simon says:

The writer either has a short memory or is ill-motivated in his statements. Lest he forgets, in at least 3 of Pacs most recent fights(DLH,RH,RM), the so-called boxing experts and pundits did not give Pac a chance of winning. However, as in the past, Pac loves to prove the majority wrong. Pac always excel when everyone say he doesn’t have a chance. The writer also displays his bias in that he failed to give Pac credit and respect for his achievements. The fact remains however, that Pac did not become a legend for no reason. Simply, he is the #1 guy right now.

  • lex_fugitive says:

As long as Manny stays away from the best his fans are happy. They all know what would happen if Manny stepped in the ring with a Mayweather or Mosley. Manny doesn’t care about boxing fans, if he did he would fight the best. Roach considered having Manny fight Mosley instead of Clottey, but decided against it AGAIN. Williams didn’t have anything scheduled. The fact is Manny was in a hurry to sign someone, anyone, that wasn’t a top tier opponent. PacDuck at it again! Bring on Camacho and Chavez Sr.!!!

bottom line pacman is in his prime and he still getting better.he fight twice a yr,so we should see him with mosley .Margarito,verlaro.if pac can beat margarito he should and might prove it all, and fight paul william, then might silence a few.it might be more likely instead of floyd as paul might soon fight at 147lb as I said pac has put every fighter but 2 on the canvas 2 quit .48 kos
mosley and floyd might not fight anymore this year.

Manny Pacquiao took care of Cotto and now looks to do the same with Clottey at welter and having started his career at 106. What else do these people want from this little guy. Pacquiao is an amazing little fighter and a humble human being. Right now he is the guy to beat and the man that calls the shots. Like it or not.

  • Matthew says:

Just1md – Not entertaining for you maybe but for anyone who has an appreciation for genuine skill then watching Floyd Mayweather is like watching an artist at work, he’s the best counter puncher out there at the moment and after the hard time JMM gave Pac in both of their fights it’s not surprising that Roach doesn’t want to put Pac in with a far slicker counter puncher than Marquez.

Perhaps you should look on one of the video sharing sites for a boxer called Butterbean,I think you would enjoy his fights.

  • Hijynx says:

    Pacquiao = exciting fighter

a point to notice is pac always fights twice a year, mosley over a year floyd a year, and pac ask bradley if he wanted to be his sparing partner ,bradley was insulted, why? he would hav a chance to see how he mesure up to pac,and find weakness, also he could collect if he think he can on the reward roach gives to all his sparring partner, anyone can knock pac down get 1,000 dollar.so badley you could have bragging right to knock down pac,but you are a light puncher, pac can sent you one punch.

  • Hijynx says:

    Manny pacquiao = exciting fighter

    Floyd mayweather = boring entertainer

  • Just1md says:

What is there not to get. Tyson killed it ppv and know one thought any of his opponents had a chance. People still paid to watch for a knock out and an entertaining fight. I swear this site must be run by Golden Boy promo always trying to talk down the Pac fight and hype up the floyd fight when they give away his tickets in Vegas cause he can’t sell out. I know I’m from there. Don’t get me wrong Floyd is a great fighter, just not enetrrtaining to watch.

  • Phoocquiao says:

I actually kinda like that he’s not a good singer by any stretch of the imagination, and that I can probably beat him in one-on-one (basketball). I mean, one guy can’t be great at everything, but he still has the balls to go and sing on Late Night T.V

I mean, you gotta love that.

  • Matthew says:

His Nike contract is worth $75,000.

pacquiao always fight the best who’s available and willing to go inside the ring, no ifs, no buts. that’s the heart of pacquiao’s success, he does take risks all the time. of course his fans do cares who he fights, it’s just another misinterpretation of him and his fans. some may say they dont care, it is just an overreaction to defend pacquiao from this harsh conspiracy to take him down. you cant please everybody, but those who really know their boxing will love pacquaio with this achievements and accomplishments in boxing.

  • vinny says:

I would love to see Pacquiao vs Mosley. Not to put PBF down, he’s a great fighter and he has mad skills, but his fights are technical and boring. A Pacquiao vs Mosley fight on the other hand would be non-stop action because Pac loves to trade and Mosley would just trade with him. I’m rooting for Mosley to knock PBF out so we can see an action packed fight between Mosley vs Pacquiao, since we’ll probably never get to see a Pacquiao vs PBF fight. Both fighters are too stubborn to give in to each others’ demands at the moment.

  • Realbox says:

    Short answer, NO.

Whenever i see a post criticizing mp i always find myself reading bs from his fans calling the writter names and not even getting the point of the post. True he has made it to the pinnacle, and he should be admired for that, but if some of you actually read the post and undertood the point of it you wouldn’t even be bringing that issue up.

So NO, pac fans do not care who he fights.

And NO, he can’t sing to save his life! platinum or not.

Would like to see Pacman stick in the game another 18 months to see if he can get a margarito, berto, possibley valero at light welter, couple of young guns just to prove his not just destroying people comming of the back off career changing kos and a weight drained de la hoya. mosley if he pull of upset

  • roys says:

I dont care…. I watch it. put manny up against a boxing kangaroo,I love it, then put floyd in next.give me action.

  • Judge Judy says:

Fans don’t care about who Pacmans fights because Pacman himself said that he will fight whoever his Promoter will ask him to fight. So who cares anyway?

I would add some highlights to one of bloggers here that says Pacman is not a good singer but his album leveled platinum twice, TRUE; he has a very poor acting abilities but his movies hit the movie blockbusters,TRUE again; so now he is running for a Congressman in his wife’s hometown, and hey people will still vote for him – another dream that might come TRUE.

  • vinny says:

I was walking through our local Mall today and I saw Pacquiao ads in the sports store for Nike ads. I was surprised because I live in a Mexican neighborhood, but you know what he deserves the multimillion dollar Nike contract for being a humble fighter with heart and determination. I can see the devotion of his filipino fans, just like Mexican fans were devoted to Julio Cesar Chavez. Nobody questioned his fans then even during the questionable wins. I’m pretty sure a majority of PBF fans, remember I’m not saying all his fans, are African American and they defend him about everything. So the country is going to get behind there major star, nothing wrong about that.

  • vinny says:

@tommy: Besides I could argue, why didn’t PBF fight Mosley instead of JMM, who had to come up 2 weight classes, when he came back from retirement? OR even a true WW when he came back from retirement?

  • vinny says:

@tommy: When the negotiations between Manny and PBF fell apart Mosley was already under contract to fight Berto. Manny was signed to fight Clottey before Berto, bless his family, had to withdraw due to the Haiti earthquake and losing family members. If Mosley had been available before he signed to fight Clottey than we probably would be watching Manny vs Mosley March 13th.

  • tommy says:

i seem to remember mosley publicly asking pacman and mayweather for fights when he beat margarito, surely pacman could have chased mosley, rather than clottey?

  • vinny says:

You have the devoted fans of Pacquiao on one side and then you have the devoted fans of PBF on one side. Both claim that their fighter is the best and are critical of each others’ fighters. Now as critical as the writer sounds about Pacquiao choosing only the best to fight, I wonder if he is a closet PBF devoted fan. You can be just as critical about PBF throughout his career and you can look at his recent match-up with Mosley as him having no choice, but to take the fight or lose almost all his fans for having dodged another fight. So really why would you keep watching PBF if he’s known for cherry-picking. I would rather see Pacquiao vs Mayweather next month, but I’ll have to deal with watching Pacquiao vs Clottey and then Mosley vs Mayweather. In the end hopefully we get to see the megafight between the two, but it doesn’t seem likely with both fighters unwilling to budge on the negotiations.

hey chris, everytime i read your write up it’s all but bias. you always watch mayweather’s fights and the truth about those fights were all boring and like scams ripping your pocket. fan or no fan of pacquiao, everybody enjoys watching and every pennies spent really worth. you can’t fall asleep coz the fight has been always entertaining. we support pacman because he cares about the people watching. tell me about pbf.

  • heavy G says:

What is the point of criticizing Pacquiao’s fans??? It is my observation that his fans are the most polite and respectful in the boxing world.

Furthermore, Pac has fought Marquez twice, Morales 3 times, Barrerra twice, ODLH, Hatton and Cotto.

  • da truth says:

Maybe you’ll pay to see mayweathers fights. But we like action inside the ring. da writer just like to say that pac fights lame fighters. we know your just hater. A boxing writer?……please.

  • Larry Merchant says:

    GARD:
pacman isnt at all like tyson was in his prime..tyson fought good quality opponents in his glory days..pacs skiping that part ! pac went right to fighting has beens…tyson put the fear of god in people ..pac is just clever match making ..when he fight a skilled boxer like mayweather he gets beat real bad ..and i mean bad !! manny better just stick to his usual cropof 2nd tier fighters coming off loses or he will get schooled !!

  • Larry Merchant says:

obviouslly not !! been fighting bums coming off losses…go for fighter of the century next manny!!

  • 1234 says:

“That is so hard me to understand as a boxing writer.”

First, you are not a boxing writer not even an amateur one. Just because you you put boxing gloves on does not mean you can box and just because this site allows you to post your thoughts, well you get where I am going with this.

Second, pay per view in the Philippines is not free. Just like the rest of the world the fight is shown on many different websites for free. So guess what writer its free no matter where you go in the world.

Finally, as a fan of Mayweather and Pacquiao I will be watching both fights. Whether I get to watch it for free or I pay for it. A fight is a fight as far as I am conerned you never know Clottey may upset Pacquiao for a win and those that did not watch just missed the P4P King go down.

  • kevin says:

    @ pete

how can pac be number one P4P when he only fights at catchweights he gets to set with glove sizes he gets to set on dates he gets to set. hes great no doubt but thats not p4p for ya plus he doesnt wanna fight any boxers only brawlers and straight forward fighters… when asked about mayweather and mosley before negotiations he said ask my management….. when asked about cotto and DLH and hatton he said… i would love to fight those guys it would be a great fight without mentioning management… that doesnt take away from his skills no doubt but hes gotta be number 3 pound for pound in my eyes under mayweather and mosley

  • kevizzle2020 says:

    @ boxxerr

he is manning up hes fighting mosley… and taking blood does not make you weak… well at least not the amount they are taking and even if so 14 days is more than enough time… but you cant blame manny for it he actually said he was fine its roachs ass… pac is awesome its stupid ass freddy roach whose blowing it… hes probably secretely doping pac like all his other fighters…

  • gard says:

Pacquiao reminds me of Tyson the younger, only smaller. The fight
is always exciting, you almost don’t want to go to the bathroom
because something can happen in any second of the fight.

  • Pete says:

Who do you want Pacquaio to fight? He wanted Mayweather but Floyd is acting like such a douche there really is no-one else. So he picks a tough customer in Clottey to prove that he will not take the easy road.

I am a big Hatton fan but when he was KO’d by Pacquiao I had nothing but respect for the Pacman. The way he handles himself outside the ring and how humble he was when he came over to the UK. He has faces the best in each and every division and beat them. He totally deserves to be No.1 P4P and until Mayweather mans-up he will always be No.2 (well, unless he gets beaten by Mosley).

  • roy says:

What happens to Pacquiao now is best said by Murad Mohammad in his interview, the first promoter who handled Pacquiao.Murad said, all the promoters in America rejected Pacquiao when he first came, only Murad gave Pacquiao a shot because he likes what he saw in Pacquiao”the punch that you ca’nt see.” After Pacquiao defeated Morales, all the wolves were after him,the same holds thru with all the Pacquiao haters, after Pacquiao won his 7th belt, all the haters are making excuses, fabricating lies just to discredit what he achieved, they are like wolves stalking their prey, why do’nt you give the guy credit and enjoy his fight after all boxing should be an exciting sport, not pot shoting and posturing.

  • Boxxerr says:

He does want to fight the best out there but they are scared to fight so he has to fight fighters that are not scared of him and are willing to bring what they got like #5 rank Clottey. Then maybe Mosley if he wins.

PBF who beats PAC in Height, Reach, Size and Natural Boxing abilities and say PAC is one dimensioanal has every advantage over PAC still won’t fight unless he makes PAC take blood test to make him weak (Morales 1 as example).

So PBF fans make your fighter man up if he is that good, he should not make any excuse and fight for the fans.

  • Duc1098 says:

Chris W, Pacman can be fighting you and I’ll still buy his PPV. You know why? cause I know it’ll be a nonstop action.

  • Phoocquiao says:

    armthelandless

Yeah, every group has it’s fanatics. No group is immune to that. Yeah, and Flips felt the same way about everyone mexican fighter that Manny has fought. We love em. Even though I knew Morales was gonna win the first fight, I still felt hurt when Manny lost. Supposedly, they are good friends now.

I don’t know if you’ve seen Pacquiao’s and Morales’ beer commercial they did together. I thought it was kinda epic.

  • Numba 1 says:

Wow this dude writing this article just sounds like another Pac-Hater. And when your talkin about Pacquiao fighting lesser opponents are you referring to Clottey? Well yeah he’s the number 1 contender so idk how he doesn’t deserve a shot at the title. And the reason people will pay for his fights is because they are entertaining……? duh.

  • carlos says:

This situation is becoming very sickening. Any comment or article, even though neutral, if perceived by Pacquiao fans as even the tiniest bit against their (idol, god, saviour) they get their underwear all in a bunch. History will judge him. And if all these allegations against him never pan out, then he will be seen very favorably. SO ENOUGH ALREADY GET A LIFE.

  • armthelandless says:

    @gary
when you say politico does that mean a politician? just want to know… that sounds like a politician move to get the votes!!

  • Phoocquiao says:

    @ armthelandless…

I posted this somewhere else, maybe help to shed some light…

Something you non-Filipino people don’t understand about why Filipino’s love Manny. We are well aware that he is not the most fundamental fighter in the world. it’s his heart, grit and determination that have propelled him to the summit of the sport. These are qualities that Filipinos, as a whole, love and BELIEVE in. SO to see one of our own rising to the top on the strength of these qualities alone, speaks to us on a different level. So at this point, it doesn’t matter if he wins or loses. He’ already proven himself.

  • gary says:

filipinos love the pacman because he fights anyone his promoters put in front of him & filipinos know the pacman will give his best for anyone that cares to watch … btw, it’s not free to watch his fights in the philippines; people have to shell out ~500 pesos admission tickets to watch his fights unless some politico shows it in the town plaza(in that case, the politico pays for it)

  • armthelandless says:

pacquiao being filipino means nothing at in the general scheme of things. it just means that there is a great filipino fighter. there are ten times more great black fighters than filipino fighters and just as much mexican fighters. so does that mean black and mexican people are ten times greater than filipinos? i don’t understand why some filipinos take all this so personal, as if saying anything against pacman is like saying somehting against their grandmas, the pope and all their dead relatives…
i am not even filipino but i am proud of pacquiao being filipino. but some of his fans get carried away with this whole filipino thing as if they were waiting for a savior to validate them. insecurity i guess. sorta like hearing kids say my daddy can beat up your daddy. i just really hope he is not doping and would like to be sure rather than guess because i hate being shammed.

  • Phoocquiao says:

Honestly, I really don’t care who FLoyd fights either.

I just feel that if a fighter is gonna go on record and say he is the greatest, then he should prove it against the best competition.

But if the guy is just like, “hey I’ll fight whoever.” then I have no problem with who he fights. I just want excitement.

  • newscathers says:

the reason why we all talking about manny pacquiao right now, whether you are a great fan or not is because MANNY PACQUAIO IS THE BEST FIGHTER IN THE WORLD TODAY, HE IS THE #1 POUND FOR POUND KING. and numbers dont lie,—-media, fans, writers bloggers are all talking about MANNY PACQUIAO. … ALL THE WRITERS AROUND THE WORLD WANTS A PIECE OF MANNY… they wrote all things they want= bad, lies, gossips, anything! few good things that manny deserves, using manny pacquiao for their own sake, manny pacquiao is their job. the thing is these writers really dont care about these boxers (manny pacquiao or any boxers)… they care about their pockets only!, pathetic people. manny dont care about our comment, manny dont care about your comment. HES JOB IS TO FIGHT!, give us one great of a fight, clottey is the current #1 rank in WBO. and manny is the champion in WBO. because of this reason why i am not confused why manny pacquiao picked clottey!. MANNY PACQUIAO IS THE ONLY PERSON IN THE WORLD WHO DID, 7 WORLD CHAMPIONS IN 7 DIFFERENT DIVISION, and all your dirty comments about manny, about the steroids etc. will not make a single stained to what he achieve… there’s no proof and no evidence!… only because he’s too fast, too strong, too tough, too amazing, too sharp to believe!, he’s unbelievable, he’s a CHAMPIONS!. HE’S A FILIPINO….. ALL THE PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD THESE I ANNOUNCED!!. PLEASE ACCEPT THAT TRUTH. THAT THE KING OF BOXING RIGHT NOW IS A FILIPINO!!!

  • lapu lapu says:

We can say the same thing about Floyd…actually hes the FIRST AND ONLY authentic DUCKER OF ALL TIME !

Hes afraid to fight Paul Williams, Yuri Foreman, Margarito, even Malignaggi, etc, etc

Most importantly hes TERRIFIED of Pacman ! Period.

  • lapu lapu says:

    @FIGHTER….

Come on man….what were you saying before Pacman beat the crap out of them ??? Sore loser….

  • Phoocquiao says:

    @ fighter

To be fair… It wasn’t like Floyd’s last 5 opponents weren’t without their deficiencies.

DLH was already far removed from his best years. Ws he that much more washed up when he fought Pac, yeah. But it’s not like Mayweather fought a prime DLH either.

    You’re right about Hatton

When Morales won it was because Manny wasn’t as good a boxer then, and even I knew that Morales was gonna box Manny’s ears off that night. When Manny upped his ring I.Q he destroyed Morales. Twice.

BTW, I’m not sure why but Morales decided to slug it out with Pac in the last round of their first fight, and almost got knocked out. That loss was probably the best thing to happen to Manny at that point in his career though.

  • jj says:

    Pac Fans are all retards

  • Frankly says:

Jhon, PBF is the only one demanding a blood test. If you are blaming the Boxing Commissions around the States for not doing the right thing, then you are putting an indelible mark on every fighter, past and present who underwent the scrutiny of the Commission. That includes Oscar, Hearns, Leonard, Duran and other great fighters.

  • Dey C says:

My favorite athlete of all time is Gary Payton. I absolutely loved him growing up in the 90’s. He was not the best but sure loved to watch him.

I went to dozens of games and I didn’t care if he played against the good teams (Bulls, Lakers, Blazers, Jazz, Knicks) or crappy teams (Bullets, Mavericks, Hawk). I just wanted to see him in action.

For me, it’s the same with Pac. I just wanna see him in action. Anything can happen in any sports. Upset or not, this fight is going to be full of action.

  • Fighter says:

x-ray. You are lying to yourself. You know damn well that ALL the polls (ie fighter of the DECADE, and p4p best) are always with Pacman. HBO polls, all of them. Next thing is this, let’s examine the list of fighters you mentioned and break it down:
Delahoya-Pacman faught him what 2-3years after Floyd’s lopsided victory over him. Past his prime.

Marquez-A good durable fighter who gave Manny a bit of trouble, and was considerably slower…Embarrased by Floyd too

Cotto- Another good fighter, but damaged from cheating Margarito, and a bit slow.

Hatton-Propped up by boxing execs because let’s face it, he’s a good brawler, holder, rabbit puncher, but boxing’s not for him.

Morales-slow, yet still able to get a win over P-man.

See a pattern here. Everybody he fights has some deficiency. He never chooses to fight fast, or slick, or undamaged, or in their prime type fighters. They’re all slower, come forward, let’s slug it out type guys, accept for Oscar, but it don’t matter, because he was done anyway.

  • lapu lapu says:

And we PACMAN FANS are certain (and without any bias) and without any doubt that he can tear apart, dismantle and embarrass YOUR fraud, contradictory, lying, drug addict, trash talking, coward and chicken sit Floyd Mayweather Jr ! Pacman has even yet more SUPERIOR SKILLS than Floyd…he knows damn well knows this thats why he doesnt want to fight him…that’s why he insist all random blood test up to fight day and after with unlimited everything !! It is not even a legitimate demand cuz as we know it its not ordered by an authority…he even has the AUDICITY to demand more split to his favor?? what kind of a boxer is he ? bit!! he can ck himself !! HES PROVEN THATHES A COWARD AND A CHICKEN..

  • Phoocquiao says:

Actually Foreman. In court, Floyd would first have to prove that his accusation has merit, then Manny would have to prove he’s clean.

If it’s proven in court that Team Mayweather was just running their mouths, then Manny won’t have to prove anything.

  • Paul Mason says:

    100% right XRAY

  • Phoocquiao says:

his fights are exciting. What’s wrong with that. Sure we would like to see a competitive fight, but it’s not like any of his fights will be a bore fest either. He’s electric in the ring.

And I’m guessing that whole, “fight better competition” is a way to disguise the obvious bias towards Pac’s latest opponent. But C’mon. Clottey is not the tenth ranked Welter. And it’s not like this will be an easy fight for Pac. So as far as competition goes, it will be more competitive than Mayweather-Marquez. To which I’m pretty sure the author paid good money to see.

  • jhon foreman says:

Pilipino has been searching for a HERO for almost many many dacade, now they have one, thank to the very Honest and Honorable Freddie Roach, Bob Aurum and Ariza who orchesrated everything. But the blood test will hunted Pacman for the rest of his life. He is in the history, but what is history if theirs a big question mark. You can hide but u cant run from the truth. You are inocent until proven guilty. This is a big question that we already know, we could not prove Pacquioa to be guilty, becouse he dont like to take a blood test, But in a court of Law if one person is accuse he need to prove to the public that he is not really quilty. Most critic write that the commission doesnt require this test, but if someone ask for it do the commission denied this request, if thats the case then the commission is also guilty of hiding the truth. Do the commission protect the promoter or the public. This question is up to the viewers and you could pass it to your children and grand children.

  • Fighter says:

GREAT ARTICLE!!! Finally people are beginning to come to their senses. I will not pay to see Manny or any fighter even that I admire, fight a weaker fighter. Floyd agreed to fight Mosley. Shane agreed to take blood tests. If real fighters with nothing to hide come to the table, than this is what you get, a great fight with two equally talented, equally classed guys in the ring. I used to say that Floyd ducked hard fights, and still beleive heDID until taking Shane, as he will one day be a hall of famer. Who does Manny go with? Clotey. Williams AND Sergio faught what many think was fight of the year, why not fight one of them? Colazzo has beaten Hatton, and Berto (I don’t give a f— WHAT the judges said), Berto is as fast as Pac, and Has power too, but Pacman is considering Yuri, Malinaggi, and Clottey. Come on, Im not knocking them, but there is a higher level of comp, and Manny hurt himself in a major way by choosing a journeyman, while Floyd stepped up (finally) to take a HUGE gamble. Manny’s just playing it safe. Too bad the Pac groupies don’t see that.

  • Frankly says:

PACMAN has said that he probably will only have two fights before he retires. I’m sure those last two fights are fights that would enhance his legacy.

Clottey is not a pushover and he would give his best shot on fight night with PACMAN.

PACMAN has often said that he fights not only for his countrymen but all boxing fans around the world (that includes the PAC haters). He owes the boxing fans a lot for his success and giving the fans the entertainment they expect is his way of paying his dues to them. So you expect his every fight is value for money.

PBF on the other hand admitted that when he fights, the only thing that matters is himself(and his ego). His loyal fans hopefully comes second on his list.

  • Hector says:

    armthelandless!

agreed with Arum. I also think Arum is goinig to try to hype up Valero when Pacquaio retirees. He’s good at building a boxers name. He did the same for De La Hoya and Mayweather until they left Top Rank.

  • Wake Up Chris says:

Pac Fans called out Mayweather during the Cotto fight Floydie got scared what more do you want.

  • jhon foreman says:

Pilipino dont care who Pacman will fight, one reason its over Pacman is already in History, which all Pilipino wanted to be recognize that thier is one athlete in their country to be recognize, its their dreams. Pacman will not take any blood test, You know why? if it happened that he was cought it will be the most embarassing day to the philippines. Like now what happened to Margarito will also happened to their dearest HERO.Not only the country will be embarass but also their president will protest to the United Nation of unfair treatment and then it will became descrimination.

  • rob says:

chris william manny pacquiao is not a normal boxer, He is the boxer of the decade and 3 times boxer of the year.Do you think, those guys who awarded these awards to manny are DUMB? Man, come on you should feel lucky and proud to get a chance to watch his fight.

  • armthelandless says:

good article mr. williams, i agree except that i don’t fault pacquiao at all. he has shown the willingness to fight the best fighters in the past and though clotty is not the best welter, he is still a solid opponent for pacquiao who is still relatively new to the division. that being said, i place the blame squarely on bob arum and top rank who always looks to milk the fans whether it be pacquiao, pavlik, and soon juan manuel lopez. for example, a few months ago a gamboa vs lopez fight was imminent and inevitable, but when gamboa looked like a machine against mwgata arum promptly proclaimed that a gamboa vs juanma fight was a long way off yet. in very simple terms, that means juanma will continue to fight b fighters so that puerto rican fans can buy his fights on ppv all the while gamboa is sent to Germany to earn his dues the hard way becasue there are not enough cubans with access to money to make arum rich enough. he is doing the same with donaire in the pinoy power series, and of course the latin fury series that are constantly on ppv even though they are not worth buying most of the time. its big business for arum, but for us fans it means that great talents like donaire don’t get as much fanfare as they deserve because the average boxing fan will not pluck down 50 bucks to see donaire fight a last minute replacement.
back to the pacquiao thing, i will still buy pacquiaos fights because he fights with all boxing fans in his heart and always makes exciting fights. clotty may be no mayweather or mosley but no one can fault pacquiao for fighting a welter rated in the top five. he will do his part buy fighting and beating clotty and arum will do his buy collecting the money.

  • Paul Mason says:

I really enjoy watching Pacquaio fight, i hope he gets to fight Mayweather but until that point i would pay to watch him fight anyone. It was the same years ago, whoever Mike Tyson fought we would watch and pay whatever it cost. You always know your going to get a cracker

  • Lito Anokamo says:

Lookit, can Pacquiao sing? NO! But they buy his albums anyway. Can Pacquiao act? NO! But they watch his movies and sitcom anyway. The guy cannot answer the simplest question without going “ahhh… ummmm…”. And more than half the time, his answer is, well… not so much of an answer. Let us admit it Pacquiao is not the sharpest knife in the kitchen, and that is an understatement to the Nth degree, and yet, he will be elected to public office. Probably as a congressman or governor. So, what were you asking again, “Do Pacquiao’s fans care who he fights?” LOL.

  • Sophocles says:

Pacquiao is a draw because he’s an exciting fighter inside the ring- constant action, power, speed. His last opponent, Cotto, outboxed and beat the self proclaimed best in the welters, Mosley. And those saying he was ‘damaged goods’, do you really think he would’ve beaten Manny if he hadn’t faced Margarito like 2 years befor their Nov match? Like he would magically been faster, stronger, and able to handle Manny’s blinding speed. GTFO with that bs.

Mayweather beat Hatton at 147, where Ricky had previously looked awful fighting against a fringe contender in Luis Callazo. Manny beat Hatton at HIS best weight, where Ricky was undefeated at 40-0… knocked him down twice in the first, and knocked him into retirement in the second. But I’m sure if he hadn’t fought and been ‘damaged’ by Floyd at a weight he wasn’t comfortable at, he would’ve lasted more than 2 rounds against Manny. GTFO.

If you think Manny should be fighting Carlos Baldomir, Arturro Gatti, etc calibre opponents, then you need help. Hey, maybe he can prove he’s the best by taking on Chris John at 147, that’s what real welters do right? Stop it already. Manny gives the fans what they want, if you’re turned on by some loud mouthed clown throwing money at the camera and then putting you to sleep while he runs for 12 rounds in the ring, go nuts. Waste your money, no one’s forcing you to watch entertaining fights.

  • Jorge says:

i have to agree with what smart guy said about Pacquiao Fans. Especially where they build up fighters to be the best, that is so true…..

  • Hector says:

I will pay to watch any fight involving Pacquiao or Mayweather regardless of the opponent. The fight I’m looking forward to the most at the moment is Mayweather and Mosley even though I feel Mayweather will win by a wide UD. In regards to Manny’s opponents, no matter what is said, Manny weighs 148 on fight night. He’s not a true welter and it’s nice to see a small guy take on the challenge of fighting bigger opponents. He also has a very exciting and entertaining boxing style. That’s why I watch him. Mayweather IMO is the best boxer on the planet and that is why I watch him. They are the 2 biggest superstars of the sport right now. With that said, I watch a lot of boxing but any fight involving Pacquiao or Mayweather is a must watch for me. I’m the same with the NBA. I watch a lot of ball and have league pass. It’s always exciting for me but even more exciting if the game involves Kobe or Lebron.

  • Ukansodoff says:

Blame Mayweather, and Clottey is a very good boxer there is nothing wrong with him as an opponant for Pacman.

We dont want to see him fighting joe the bum McNobody but he aint doing that, not even close.

  • ramsey says:

clottey is the best fight out there aside from mayweather and mosley of course…

  • Smart Guy says:

You know you opened yourself up for nonstop bashing with this right? I mean your 100% correct but his fans dont wanna hear that sht… They will watch him fight whoever because he is their boxing savior… They will also build up the people he’s fighting as being the best so they can say he fought the best… Good luck with the bashing!!
