Dirrell-Abraham postponed? Andre suffers injury – News

By Eric Thomas: According to Boxing Talk, American Andre Dirrell (18-1, 13 KO’s) has suffered an injury while training for his March 6th Super Six tournament bout against Arthur Abraham. The injury will make it necessary to postpone the fight until a later date. Fight news is reporting that Dirrell injured his back while training. Dirrell will be seeing a doctor tomorrow about the problem. As of now, there is no word as to when the bout will be rescheduled. This still hasn’t’ been positively confirmed, but it’s looking like the fight is off.

This is the stage 2 bout for Dirrell and Abraham. Dirrell lost his first fight of the Super Six tournament in a 12 round decision loss to WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch. And Abraham, the Super Six tournament leader, stopped American Jermain Taylor in the 12th round to win three points in the tournament scoring. This will be certainly disappointing news for some fans, as they were looking forward to seeing both Abraham and Dirrell in action on March 6th.

Yo I told you Andre Dirrel was gonna win! He’s definitely a talanted fighter. I hope he recovers from the foul soon. He just changed the whole look on the tournament. Abraham is a slugger but he can’t handle a pure boxer like dirrel.

  • leeroy says:

O well, wouldn’t have been a good fight anyway. Dirrell is gonna pitty-pat n run just like FRoch fight.IT’s sissies like this guy and Floyd mayweather that are causing boxing to lose favor.yes,I understand the point is to punch and not get hit but it makes it really dull for the spectator. I wasn’t planning on watching this live anyway.I was going to tape it. WEC has a card on versus that’s better than Dirrell-Abraham or the Urango fight.

  • NAZ says:

Since the tickets sold out so quick, Garry Shaw came up with the idea of putting Vic Darchinyan as the main event and faking Dirrell’s injury to postpone the fight to a different venue. Sell more tickets earn more money easy and simple.

  • NAZ says:

    LOL AUGUSTUS , you’re right

  • c froch says:

losing his bottle the yanky panzy

  • Ukansodoff says:

Guted, i cant wait for this one.

  • KO says:

Get ready for 15 articles on Dirrell’s injury from Scott…

  • Bucsumthin says:

I think it’s due to HBO comepeting on the same night with Urango vs Alexander for the junior welterweight title unification. They didn’t really promote the fight well either like when floyd faked the rib injury. I think its part of the game promotional ploy to spice up the action. Andre’s ready trust me but ratings is what its all about.

  • Bob says:

Is this a Fake rib injury?

  • EL Cocorote says:

Great this gives the clincher a few more weeks before he get Knocked out

  • ROB says:

abraham is one of the dangerous puncher dirrell has to think twice before he encounter to the king

  • xAUGUSTUSx says:

I smell something fishy going on. Maybe Dirrell needs to flush something out of his system. I think they are just trying to throw Abraham off his game. This injury is BS!. I’m sorry but if you pull something while sparring why would you go on the radio on the same day and say your injured. Without even seeing a specialist first. He could wake up this morning and the pain could be gone. It happens to me all the time while sparring.

  • UK brawler says:

I bet this guy gets zero to none criticism from the yanks for this. Make me laugh when you consider the things they said about Haye.

  • Bud says:

Dirrell starts running away even before the fight begins!!

  • NAZ says:

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO KING ARTHUR

  • NAZ says:

Scott is going to come out with “Is Arthur Abraham scared tp fight Andre Dirrell?, he should be and that is why he’s backing out of the fight” even though they said Squirell hurt his back.

  • Pete says:

Oh no… this means we have got to ignore another 50 articles by Scott on how Dirrell is super talented, the best boxer in the world and was robbed against Carl Froch.

I was actually looking forward to getting this fight out of the way, AA to KO Dirrell and hopefully shut this guy up.

  • mark fletcher says:

Will he get the same critism that Haye did? Despite Haye wanting to fight at a later date

  • JwGacey1 says:

Oh NO! If this fight is postponed it means we will have to wait longer for AA to shut up Scott Gilfoid!

  • Red Medicine says:

Jesus Christ, yet another postponed event. I should’ve expected it though: this is boxing, after all. The only good thing to come of this is that the fight will be closer to the date of the other stage 2 bouts. I agree that they should just air it on April 24 with those other fights, but I’m not sure that would be profitable for Showtime. I think they want to milk this tournament for all that it’s worth.

  • Avo says:

I hate dirrell (with a lowercase d). He better not cancel this fight, scared little girl.

  • lex_fugitive says:

Hopefully they could somehow schedule it on April 17 for a triple-header! All three Super Six second round fights. Now that would be a Grade A PPV buy right there!

  • The_Ring says:

Rumor has it that Dirrell pulled a hammy running in sparring

  • Wildnature says:

Dirrell only will delay their defeat…ok I wait this fight anyway

  • Kris says:

Great. This is the second time this fight has been pushed back.
