Concepcion defeats Santiago, Morel decisions Penalosa

By Jim Dower: Featherweight Bernabe Concepcion (28-3-1, 15 KOs) defeated Mario Santiago (21-2-1, 14 KOs) by a 10 round unanimous decision on the Pinoy Power 3/Latin Fury 13 at the Las Vegas Hilton, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Concepcion, 22, knocked Santiago down in the 6th round. The final judges’ scores were 98-91, 96-93, 97-92. The win was an important one for the 22-year-old Concepcion, as he will now be facing World Boxing Organization featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez next.

Eric Morel (42-2-1, 21 KO’s) defeated 38-year-old Gerry Penalosa (54-8, 34 KOs) by a 12 round split decision to capture the World Boxing Organization interim bantamweight title. Penalosa fought hard, but had problems with his vision due to two nasty cuts over both of his eyes, a product of a couple of head butts. Penalosa fought remarkably well and took the fight to the younger Morel in the later rounds. However, it wasn’t enough, as the judges gave the fight to Morel by the scores of 115-113 and 116-112. The third judge scored it 115-113 for Penalosa.

Abe was too slow in this fight and if they face by June with juanma,Abe needs more speed…power is there but useless if he cannot drop that power to the body of Juanma…just combine the speed and power…
If Concepcion ends up fighting JuanMa Lopez I’m today predicting that Concepcion will beat Lopez..Concepcion would’ve comfortably beaten Luevano if he hadn’t stupidly hit him after the bell and tonight he dominated a solid fighter throughout the fight.Concepcion is a good fighter..I was actually excited when he was named as a possible oponent of featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa..Of course,I think Gamboa is favorite if the meet,but that would be a good fight.
Penalosa may have won the fight if those headbutts didn’t produced nasty cuts.. Morel took heavy body shots and affetced him on the later rounds and his holding to penalosa whenever he’s hit to the body.. But Morel is aggressive enough to win..
