Arreola: “Doesn’t matter if I have to go through David Gaye, I want that title”
By Jim Dower: Heavyweight contender Chris Arreola (26-1, 25 KO’s) is focused and dialed into working on picking up a heavyweight title in the near future. Arreola, 28, has a fight coming up on April 24th, against former cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek (40-1, 27 KO’s) at the Citizens Business Bank Arena, in Ontario, California. In an article at Poundforpound boxing, Arreola says “Doesn’t matter which brother [Klitschko] go through or if I have to go through David Gaye, I want that title.”
Vitali plans on trying to get a fight against WBA heavyweight champion Haye this year and then retiring from boxing. However, Arreola can still put himself in position for a fight against Haye or Wladimir Klitschko. However, Arreola is going to have to find a way to deal with Adamek’s better hand speed and movement otherwise he’ll end up losing his chance for a title shot.
Adamek has an advantage in that he’s moved up from the light heavyweight to the cruiserweight and finally recently to the heavyweight division. Because he’s moved up from the lighter weights, Adamek has slightly better hand speed than the average heavyweight and has better movement. Let’s be clear, though, Adamek doesn’t have great hand speed.
Heavyweights like Wladimir Klitschko, Haye, Kevin Johnson and Odlanier Solis are a lot faster than Adamek in terms of hand speed. But Arreola doesn’t have the hand speed like those guys and nor does he have the same ability to get around the ring. This is why Arreola has said recently that he plans on trimming down for this fight and coming in at between 240 and 245.
Arreola has weighed no less than 251 in his last five fights dating back to September 2008. Arreola plans on changing this for his bout against Adamek, saying that he’s going to have to be fast to chase Adamek around the ring all night long. Arreola isn’t joking. Adamek, at one time a slugger in both the light heavyweight and cruiserweight divisions, looked more like a runner in his last fight against Jason Estrada than a slugger.
Adamek moved around the ring in huge circles nonstop all night long against the light hitting Estrada, and still ended up taking some monstrous shots from him. You can be certain that if Adamek runs from a light hitter like Estrada, he’s going to really be on his bike against a much bigger puncher like Arreola. However, Adamek will have to stop at some point to land enough punches to win a decision. He can’t peck and run all night long and expect to win the fight.

“If Arreola couldn’t get in shape for the klitschko fight, there’s no way he’s gonna be 240 against Adamek.
I can only see one way for Adamek to win this fight, on the later rounds when Arreola collapses from exhaustion.”
my thoughts exactly, klitschko was his biggest fight and he never stepped it up. hes a professional boxer, these guys should be in the gym even when their not fighting anybody.
valuev was ranked number 7 by ring magaine when haye fought him…valuev has been staggered before…he is slow, plodding and has never hit hard…do you get this so far…he has a pituatary disorder…so at 36 he is a very old man and looks it…they age rapidly and it is amazing at his age he can still plod around a ring—a fight with vitali would be a disgrace and i would be afraid for valuev’s life—valuev has also been don king boy for a while, getting one gift decision after another…he has never fought a decent fighter apart from chageav, who beat him (did you see what vladimir did to him by the way?). and a 47 year old holyfield looked better than against valuev than haye did…and if you want to use the hand excuse, forget it, there was no broken hand, there was no cast a week or 2 weeks after the fight…another haye tall tale..and apart from valuev haye has never fought a top 10 fighter….ruiz isnt ranked in the top 10 by ring either, hasnt been for years…
If Arreola couldn’t get in shape for the klitschko fight, there’s no way he’s gonna be 240 against Adamek.
I can only see one way for Adamek to win this fight, on the later rounds when Arreola collapses from exhaustion.
@ HUDSON….. ARREOLA MAY SOUND DUMB BUT WE’RE TALKING ABOUT WHO IS THE BETTER FIGHTER. ARREOLA WOULD BEAT HIM.
@ DUKE….. IF YOU SERIOUSLY THINK VALUEV IS A TOP TEN HEAVY THEN YOU GOT PROBLEMS!… IM NOT INSULTING YOU CUZ I DON’T TEXT FIGHT WITH PEOPLE.IT’S JUST PLAIN DUMB! BUT THERE IS NO WAY VALUEV WOULD BEAT ARREOLA. ARREOLA WOULD ACTUALY STOP HIM. IN MY OPINION!
@ HAGLER’S BALD HEAD……. GET THE F@CK OUT OF HERE WITH THAT B.S. EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT CHRIS ARREOLA WOULD BEAT HAYE IF AND WHEN THEY FIGHT. I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU THINK OTHERWISE………
Coming from the man who cried on tv after being dominated by Vitali Klitschko .
Cris ” Jabba The Hut ” Arreola is a disgrace to boxing with his manboobs and stomach that doesn’t stop jigglying when he fights.
The only reason Arreola is on HBO is because of his Mexican fan base.
Haye is a former undisputed champion and now the current WBA heavyweight holder ! Where is fatty’s titles ? how many top ten opponents has he beaten ?
After Adamek, Haye’s the mark! Knowing what a china chin he is Ruiz might be the mark because I’m not sure Haye can beat John. He’s going to be running like the sissy he is.
arreola is talking hella smack for a fighter who hasn’t beaten a top ten heavy. he’s on the same boat at heavy as adamek. at least haye beat a top ten heavy in valuev and is fighting another one in ruiz. i like arreola but he was crying like a B$%#$#h after vitali ran thru him. he’s lying when he says he’ll come in 240-ish. i got adamek winning this fight. its been a long time since i’ve been excited for a heavyweight fight.
Arreola would flat out beat the living s**t out of David Haye! No question. The Brit’s get one heavyweight every 100 years and all of sudden they’re part of this European resurgence!?! EASTERN European’s dumb a**es!! I think we all know that David Haye is a coward who is all talk. Come to Vegas and fight The Nightmare and see what happens. We already know what would happen over here! Another horizontal British heavyweight!
You stupid inward moron Yanks. Look who’s laughing all the way to the bank now. It aint fat ass Areola it’s Haye. Haye now calls the shots. Haye has a brain unlike numbnuts Arreloa. Have you actually heard Arreloa speak? He sounds brain damaged already.
Arreola’s a fat c&*t who eats burgers and fries lunch and dinner and KFC for breakfast.
I hope Adamek finishes him off. Haye would fcuk him up big time.
Arreloa is tripe. I admire his heart, but Haye would absolutely smash him to pieces. Too slow, too fat due to guzzling too many cheeseburgers. His conditioning is absolutely poor. Most people who go to the gym and work full time in an office role are in better shape than him and to think he does this for a living?! There is no excuse to turn up overweight when you box for a living and have a team of specialists around you.
This is funny coming from the guy who only recently got his fat as handed to him. I think Arreola needs to put down the chicken and step away from the “Family Bucket” as all that saturated fat is going to his head. He needs to concentrate on his next fight, because entering the ring at a somewhat portly! 250+lbs ain’t going to do his cause any good against Adamek, who rightly so is going to be on the move all night. Personally for all his talk, I do not think Arreola has the commitment to get in shape. On the biggest night in his career his conditioning was appalling.
love to see haye smash arreola up
Adamek to knock the fat man out, Arreola is just a fat lump nothing else, David Haye i think eould kill him as he is slower moving than a tortoise.
Arreola was funny when he cried after the Klitchko fight, he’s a funny guy. He really fought well and with determination. Haye however did his crying before the fight, matter of fact after his sickening boasting and little girl antics he turned out to be a coward. Oh a hurt back, Oh he didn’t want to fight for peanuts…..The Heavyweight title is not peanuts. Arreola had guts to fight Klitchko, Haye doesn’t…..he had not one but many chances…..and the freak is still boasting….hope to God that Ruiz beats him..
Adamek will school The Cry-baby.
How about Chris ‘the nipple’ Arreola goes back to eating cakes and hanging outside Taco bell.
I think he thought he was being invited to a Pie eating competition when he turned up to fight Vitali Bitshcko. Adamek or Arreola, does not matter which. Both wont get a title until everyone else dies of old age or retires.
the yank has a big mouth the brit has an even bigger one both of them rnt gr8 fighters and wudnt trouble either k bro.maybe they shud fight each other for the big mouth hw championship of the world….
Another yank with a big mouth and nothing else.
yay for smack talk.
adamek is an accident waiting to happen at heavyweight…doesn’t have the chin or the power…good boxer though. if arreola can get past him…which he should…then he can talk his s*** & we’ll listen. if he comes in 30 pounds overweight & gets outboxed then he will just have to accept being a domestic level fighter in a country with no decent heavyweights.
Good luck eh,
vitali schooled him without breaking a sweat, unless he suddenly drops 50lb he won’t come close to beating any of the title holders.
In fact it would not surprise me to see Adamek beat him.
stop eating and start training harder [more roadwork ]
say what you want but this guy has fire! got his ass whopped and still wants more. i appreciate that.
Well i suppose if you fight for a title and lose you brush yourself off and try again. Must be hard when you were literally brushed aside like he was against Vitali.
Adamek can’t peck & run all nigth & win?
Ie seems to me another popualr fighter does that & wins quite often.
Guy’s got a short memory, someone remind him that Vitali already rolled his ass and smoked him like a joint.
