Amir Khan says Malignaggi bout is confirmed for May 15th! – News

By Eric Thomas: In his Twitter page, World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan (22-1, 16 KO’s) says that his May 15th bout against former IBF light welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi (27-3, 5 KO’s) is official at the Madison Square Garden, in New York, New York. In his Twitter page, the 22-year-old Khan says “Fights been confirmed for May 15th MSG against Malignaggi. Training starts from 6th March in LA. Want all my followers to follow me to NY.” This is marvelous news if you’re keen on a Khan-Malignaggi bout.
In the case of Maidana, he would be a constant threat for Khan for as long as the fight lasts, because even a glancing blow from the hard-hitting Maidana might be enough to sent Khan down for the count. However, Khan’s promoters Golden Boy Promotions don’t want to put Khan in with Maidana just yet, and are hoping to build up both fighters for a fighter perhaps in 2011 if both fighters continue to win.
There’s a good chance, however, that Khan and Maidana might never fight. Maidana is matched especially tough in his next fight compared to Khan, as he’s facing the unbeaten Victor Cayo on March 27th. Cayo (24-0, 16 KO’s) could outbox Maidana unless Marcos can break him down and take him out. If Cayo beats Maidana, he would be doing a huge favor for Khan, because Amir matches up a lot better against the crafty light hitting Cayo than he does against the hard hitting Maidana.
Khan has been skillfully matched up since being destroyed by knockout artist Breidis Prescott in 2008. In his last four fights – all of which Khan has won – he’s been matched up with soft punchers that post little threat to him. Khan picked up the WBA title against Andriy Kotelnik in July 2009.
Again, it was great match-making by putting Khan in with the light hitting Kotelnik rather than testing Khan against light welterweight champions Juan Urango and Timothy Bradley, both which would have likely knocked Khan out again. And then recently, instead of facing a mandatory fight against the knockout artist Maidana, Khan has been steered into a fight against Malignaggi, who poses little threat to Khan’s weak chin due to Malignaggi’s nonexistent power.
This will be Khan’s debut fight in the United States after having spent his entire career fighting in the UK. With any luck, Khan will look great against the 29-year-old Malignaggi and start the long process of winning over the casual boxing fans who only a scant knowledge about the sport.
They obviously will probably be impressed with Khan if he opens up his offense and shows his lightning quick combinations. Khan will have to get the go ahead to open up with his offense from his trainer Freddie Roach, who has bottled up Khan’s once impressive offensive skills since he started training the English fighter to keep him from getting hit so much.

Amir is only 23 he hasnt even got his man strengh yet.
Anybody who looks at the 140 division with an unbiased view should see that amir is the best fighter in that division im glad he has a suspect chin because if he had a granite chin there wouldnt be any point in him fighting because the fights wouldnt even be competative he would destroy the lot no problem.

Khan will beat Malinaggi easy and i hope he does. I still think the best thing khan could hve done is face madaina and then start fighting people like malinaggi and diaz and all of those boxers. Even if Khan got KO’ed, thats not the issue people have with him, the problem is that he said that in a rematch he’d run rings around Prescott who knocked him out but then he avoids that rematch. Khan has lost credibility for reasons like this not for any other reason!

Wft,i for one wasn’t saying SALITA would beat Khan as i’d hardly heard of the guy in fact it took me 5 or six go’s to get Salita ring record up, and i suggest one to do same to see what a hollow win that was for Khan given the quality of fighter fought by salita to get his 30/0 !!and this shows why some of the other boxing organisation didn’t even have Salita ranked in there top 10 Light welterweights let alone number one WBA contender.
Khan is average at the moment but in a few years will be the real deal, Roach is the master of turning average fighters into elite ones

Not an interesting fight, how can Paulie test Khan when he’s not considered an top ranked fighter. Khan placed so much emphasis on being World Champ now he’s not willing to defend against the number 1 contender. Not his fault obviously, he’s simply being protected and no one can say any differ but the problem I have is that he can’t be parading himself as the real deal when he’s not being put in against top contenders…afterall he is world class isn’t he?!!!

Amir is still Green, no where near his prime as of yet. He will havea great future, seeing he keeps his chin tucked. His speed, power, skill have no question marks.
They are people who paid alot of money to see Khan fight at venues such as MEN O2 arena and yes they got ripped off as they got no value for their money just a hand picked opponent every time. They are so many other professional boxers who have had to struggle and go through alot of hard graft and who are not even multi -millionaires like Khan is and if Khan has a conscious he would admit he has not earned it because he is really a fraud. Khan will continue to be a fraud until he fights boxers like WBO king Timothy Bradley, Marcos Maidana.
Gary Shaw one of the promoters in America even accused Khan of being a fraud as his team refused a fight with WBO king Timothy Bradley . Anyone who goes to see Khan fights in the states is a fool.

paulie is a good fighter and very quick as well however he isnt the hardest of punchers. paulie will be in for a surprise because he hasnt faught any1 like khan. khan is quicker and packs a punch.

khan is defo staying away from the big punchers in the division. Why does he not fight one of them like Urango or even Velero because he would defo get knocked out again. im a khan fan but i know the reasons why people hate him:
1) He avoided fights like jon murray and thaxton and it was so easy for him to fight for a world title
2) He comes across as arrogant i.e. ‘i want to fight mayweather next year’ but hes still learning lol

4) British fans are different from american fans; their more negative.period
Truth is Amir khan is the only britsh fighter that has the (i stress) potential to mix it with the best. Trust me, the americans are going to love him. Not just his lightning speed but his personality.
Like him or not, I think he has a cheek choosing to go and fight in the us to get more money in his own pocket,then expect a few british fans to spend a couple of thousand of their own hard earned to watch a potential mismatch. Also form the UK, I think you people need to cut khan some stick, khan is lighning fast with amazing punching power. This should be a good bout khan is entertaining as well as paulie.Yes khan got knocked out but lets not forget it’s not lack of chin its the fact that he got taken down with a clean punch. Most boxers can be taken down with a clean punch no matter how hard you can take a punch.
If khan improves on his defence and stays on the outside coming in with quick jab- straights-hooks then this is going to be a one sided fight. However if paulie can block out and counter the power jabs and come inside and work at his face he may be in for a chance.
This is deffinately going to be a great bout to watch.
As for the haters I dont understand why you dont like khan? the guy is not of brtish origin yet he waves the flag more proud to be a brit than you and me. 100% respect towards himself and his father for accepting the fact that they are glad to be british. im english and dont really like kahn,for the simple reason there were tough fights he could of taken in the uk,john murray,kevin mitchell,junior witter,those fights would of been a real test for kahn,however there is no doubt in my mind he will destroy mallinaggi in the early rounds,and he will become the next big star in america,good luck kahn
