“Pacquiao will discover it’s difficult to find a rhythm when nothing’s landing”- Jim Watt on predicting Mayweather-Pacquiao
By Peter Wells: I have just read the poll vote in Boxing Monthly’s latest magazine on who’ll win out of Pacquiao-Mayweather. In the end it was very surprising to see the final score but all 38 of the voters gave good reasons.
Carl Froch said that, “Floyd Mayweather beats him 10 times out of 10. He’s too technically proficient and his defensive skills and reflexes are too good”. He also added, “Mayweather’s the main man and, if I can get decent odds, I’ll bet my house on it”. That isn’t a great thing to say in a fight like this maybe in a fight where you know who’ll win, but he does sound very confident. Bert Sugar said Pacquiao on points because of the better opponents that Pacquiao has fought. Jim McDonnell, Buddy McGirt and Johnny Nelson all went with Mayweather. Nelson believes Floyd could stop Manny by keep on hitting and holding ruining Pacquiao’s game plan. Frank Maloney, Ken Buchanan, Don Majeski all go for Pacquiao the first two going for a stoppage.
Angelo Dundee believes that Mayweather back off to the ropes won’t work against Pacquiao and Dominic Ingle, Dean Powell, Marco Huck, Alan Minter, former Pacquiao opponent David Diaz and Paul Hodkinson all go with Pacquiao.
While Frank Warren, Nick Charles, Barry Hearn, Richie Woodhall, Duke McKenzie, Brendan Ingle, Ronnie Shields, Jimmy Tibbs, Colin McMillan and Alex Arthur all go for Floyd. The main vote came from Ricky Hatton who predicts that Floyd will take it on points as Floyd beat a better Ricky Hatton than Manny, also that Mayweather can pace a fight to how he likes it.
The final result was 25-13 Mayweather, but most predicted the fight to go the distance. It was very good to read so if you get a chance then it’s a good read and gives you plenty of reasons to decide what you think will happen.

Lex, Mayweather “destroyed” DLH? What fight did YOU watch?
Easy Lex, Manny beat them all one after the other. But based on your logic, Manny should have fought Zahir Rahim since he beat Morales. He also would have fought Clottey before Cotto but like I said, he will fight them one by one. Unless you would like him to fight both at the same time.
Now let me ask you this; why has Poultry Boy Fraud been a welter for so many years and is yet to face a top five guy? May I add that during this time he has made just about every excuse why he should not fight them including they each had losses.
Is it not a fact that when guys are cllosely matched that styles often make the difference? Is it not also a fact that when facing the very best that one or two mistakes can mean a loss? Is it also not a fact that Poultry Boy has been facing more lighter weights while Paul Williams looking for bigger matches, literally has faced bigger guys?
I am giving him credit for finally facing Mosley but not too much because he did not go looking for him. If not for that Haitian tragedy he would be facing Malignaggi, Hatton or even Campbell. The man is wasting away his talent and people like you who should be demanding the very best of him, just accept whatever he does.
I cut Manny some slack as he is now growing into welter but I will not accepot if he started fighting smaller guys. I also will not accept if he avoids Mosley, Berto and the other top welters. Note I left off Poultry Boy because he wants to make up his own rules on the fly. If he does not insist on the new rules that fight would have gone ahead like any other fight.
Although I agree on tighter testing, that is not his call. If he really wants to bring about change, do it the right way. Do not act like he is bigger than boxing which he is not.
No one, not Robinson, Monzon, Duran, Cuevas, Hearns, Hagler, Leonard, Louis, Super Roy nor Ali were bigger. I am a fan of boxing more than any of the names I just mentioned. They were some of my alltime favourites but I used to criticize them when I felt it was required. Why? I want to see them perform at their best aginst the very best. I also believe that the bsame way they got a chance (Hagler had a tough time getting a title shot), that they must meet the top contenders who earned the right rather than pick and choose.
So if you are going to criticize, feel free but have the best interst of boxing at the forefront and not make it a personal agenda. Manny and Floyd are 1-2 in boxing today. Floyd is clearly the most talented and gifted wheras Manny is exciting and a true warrior. They are like Leonard/Hearns/Duran. Some fans prefer one style. I like both styles but right now prefer Manny because he gives me the fights I want to see. He seems fearless. I do not think Floyd is a chicken. I think he is just like Super Roy. He thinks business first instead of being like Ali. Ali faced evryone and did it even in their own homes with their family as jusdes and referee. That is a sign of confidence which I know Floyd has, just show it to us and at the hihest level. IS that not the best for boxing?
Clottey and Mosley. Who’s ducking the best? Who’s afraid to fight the best?? didn’t Mayweather already destroy De La Hoya and Hatton first? Wasn’t it widely reported Cotto looked shot immediately after the Clottey fight?? Wasn’t it even more widely reported how ODLH looked completely shot and weight drained at 150 the fight before he took on Manny?? Didn’y Manny choose to fight the loser of Barrera-Morales? Didn’t he fight Morales a second time after he lost to Zahir Rahim?? Didn’t Manny take on the loser of Marquez-Barrera?? Why does Manny always fight the loser of big fights?? When he is going to fight someone who won their last big fight???
And talking about rumors and credibility, what ever happened to Teddy Atlas’ by now famous “mystery email” implying that Pac was greatly concerned about the public finding out his secret of taking PEDs and that he shared this huge secret by email with his most trusted confidents, the Mayweathers. Maybe someone’s hard drive crashed and it got lost. I wonder why it has not been used in that lawsuit. Oh that’s right, in court you actually need proof. Teddy Atlas. Who the hell is he Teddy Atlas anyway? Is he a trainer? Oh, that’s right. I remember seeing him as the trainer in the Moorer Foreman fight where his fighter became famous for being the ko victim of the oldest man to win the heavyweight title. I remember him taking away Moorer’s stool in that fight to punish him for not performing well in the fight. Good one Teddy. Way to instill confidence in your fight. Did you spank him in the dressing room and take away his toys for a week after the fight too? After making that stupid comment about that email, Teddy Atlas should never show his face again.
Phooquiao, good observation. I agree, “thanks to Floyd Sr., Manny is now a cheater”. If May cannot get the credit he deserves, he will make sure that Manny doesn’t either. It is simply amazing to me how someone can start a rumor without a shred of evidence other than to state that “no one can move up in weight like that and be that good” and it takes hold and grows and grows until all of Manny’s achievements become not just that he is a phenom who comes along once in a lifetime, but rather a cheater who only accomplished what he has because he took some performance enhancing drugs. What makes it even more amazing is when you consider who the source of the rumor was. Floyd Mayweather SR. Where did he suddenly attain this level of credibility? Oh that’s right. I forgot. He is the greates trainer in history. Which is why all the top fighters today are clamoring and begging for him to please train them. I think Paul Williams, if he oculd make it back to ww would be a tough fight for Floyd, Manny and SSM because of the physical mismatch, but then Leonard had the same physical mismatch with Hearns and he still won by TKO so what do I know. Too bad those fights we will never see. And if that was Floyd Mayweather instead of Leonard back then we never would have seen Leonard (Mayweather) Hearns. As Mayweather said, legacy don’t pay bills. Nice motto Floyd.
lex_fugitive
why do you always have the phrase “that the fact” when you don’t have any supporting evidence? Facts needs proof, in the absence there of it’s all just hearsay.
I think they did. Cotto’s always been a hard puncher but not really an explosive one. His punches build up and if you look at manny after the fight. He wasn’t exactly pretty. But yeah, I thought he’d get a decision based on speed and movement.
Who did i think was going to win the Cotto vs Manny fight. In all honesty i had Manny winning but not by stoppage,i saw manny outworking Cotto for a decision. What realy surprised me was how Pacquiao was able to take Cotto’s punches without blinking.I figured that Cotto’s power would have some kind of effect on the fight.
If Manny beats Clottey without a catch-weight, then it doesn’t matter if he asked for one for the Cotto fight.
IMO they asked for the catch-weight just to get the advantage, and can you blame them? In that same interview you noted, Roach also admitted that they got a lot of heat for about the catch-weight which is why they aren’t doing it. No excuses for the haters this time.
Oh wait, thanks to Floyd, Manny is a damn cheater now. Thanks Floyd. I guess if you can’t get the credit you feel you deserve, no one will.
I will not sit here and lye and say that Pacquiao is not a good fighter,he is and thats the whole point.IMO he gets the advantage in most of his recent fight that he doesn’t even need.I feel that Mannys team (Roach) milked that whole manny is the smaller man thing for some time now.Hey if thats Roaches strategy thats fine by me,i dont mind alil strategy, but then you have people that say Mayweather duckes fighters and such but in my eyes what Roach and Manny are doing are the same kind of thing.Choosing who they want to fight and with what demand for that particular fighter.
lets say that Mayweather Sr never made those opinions about Manny possibly taking some kind of steriod.Do you feel that Manny would then have accepted Floyd jr’s demand of random style testing?
Let me ask you something.Looking at Floyd jr and Pacquiao from what you have seen from both men.Whom they fought, boxing skills, and styles, can you realy say that Pacquiao would beat Mayweather?
Hey!wasup wayne, you still messing around here?Dunnor whomever else, dont compare Oscars loss to Manny with Mannys loss to Morales.Pacquiao was in top condition when he fought Morales.Manny didn’t have to worry about making weight or getting penalized for not.he didnt have to strip muscle either, just add some.Morales fought Pacquiao at super featherweight and at that time in his long career was already struggling to make 130lbs.Morales at the first fights weigh’n had to strip down to his bare ass to make sure that he didn’t go over.Morales practically begged Mannys team for the second and third fight to be at 135lbs but Roach didnt want nothing to do with that so Erik didnt have much choice.Morales being the warrior that he is accepted and payed the price. If you did watch the second and third fights you can see that Morales was doing well untill he gased out because of what he did in the gym to make 130lbs.
At the pro level every pound counts.People dont realize that because we just eat what we want and walk around at our cozy weight(some poeple well over)fat bast lol.
Manny and Roach change there storys more than the weather.First they rant about weight and how Manny is the smaller man and then just yesterday on another boxing site,Roach was asked about Clottey and how he rehydrates well past the 147lb limit and will that be a factor in the fight with Manny.Roach said that size dont matter,Pacquiao will ko Clottey. If thats the case then why didnt they fight Cotto for HIS title at 147lbs?Its just two pounds right?
Lex, Mosley wasn’t available at the time Pac made the fight with Clottey. Had a fight scheduled with Berto. Remember? It wasn’t until AFTER he signed to fight Clottey that the Berto fight canceled because of Haiti and Mosley became available. Not Pac’s fault that Mosely became available too late. As for your comment of “that’s what the best do. They fight the best without any unfair advantages.” Surely you are not referring to Mayweather, are you? You don’t see any “unfair advantage” in making a guy years past his prime, move up not one, but two weight classes, then mislead him into thinking that maybe he can make it because May agreed to the catch weight of 144, and then, at the very last minute, May laughs off the piddly (to him) $300K per pound penalty and cheats on yet another two pounds over the catch weight he agreed to just to get that “even playing field” he is so insistent on. And u don’t see any of this as being the teensiest bit of an “unfair advantage”? I don’t love or hate either fighter. Just hard to see that one any other way.
just give it some time !
@ Lex…
Thanks for proving my point. Judges are not infallible. They make mistakes all the time. And in the case of the JMM-Pacquiao fight, the judge admitted and owned up to his mistake stating he didn’t know he could score a round as 10-6.
How do you know Manny has improved? Seriously do you watch boxing? He’s evolved from a jab-straight only fighter. To a guy who can throw the left lead, the right hook counter/lead punch. He no longer bum rushes anymore, he uses patience. He can cut off the ring better, and he can keep his balance when he punches. All of which are things that can make any fighter a much more dynamic fighter. Not to mention that he’s fighting at a weight that he’s comfortable in.
Come on man, there is no way in hell that the majority of people actually thought that Manny would be able to beat DLH, Hatton, or Cotto. True, some said that all three might not be the same as they were in the past, but they still picked these guys to win regardless. I was one of them, honestly.
Now I can understand why people wanna down play Pac’s victories, and for the most part they’d be right if Pac just barely beat these guys. If just squeeked out decisions against these fighters, people would say that he’s good but he’s no Henry Armstrong. But see, Pac didn’t just beat these guys, he destroyed them.
To put things in perspective, you have to ask yourself if JMM, the man who gave Pac the hardest time in recent years, be able to walk in the ring with these guys and do the same thing?
Answer. No.
The scary thing is, he’s getting better. It may have been late in his career, but he is finally realizing his potential. Can he really beat King Kong? No. But you couldn’t really call yourself a fan of the sport if you weren’t just a little intrigued as to what that little dude will do next. He shouldn’t be beating welterweights, shot or not. He is though, and that’s impressive.
manny is still top p4p if bothe fm and manny win their fights and they dont fight each other manny will fight margaritto to top floyed so floyed will half to fight some one like a paul williams to top manny.nowing floyed he will not
phooc;
Lewis-Holyfield was a draw. So, obviously you believe that was a fair decision too. Not to mention the title fight last weekend that the WBC is reviewing. What’s wrong with them???? No one should ever question a judge’s scorecard, because as we all know, the pope and boxing judges are infallible. Also, how do we know Manny has improved?? Because he beat three fighters who were already shot, and all had numerous articles stating this before Manny ever signed to fight them? Manny beat three shot fighters that stood in front of him the entire fight. How does that prove he’s improved?? A slick boxer, counter-puncher in JMM gave Manny fits and many thought MArquez got robbbed, which is why its often brought up. That the last fighter that wasn’t shot and the last opponent that used his feet many feel got robbed is a valid point in trying to determine how good a fighter is. Hey, at least we all know Clottey isn’t shot, he’s just a second-tier guy to begin with. Most think Manny lost, then he fought three shot fighters. And dodged Mosley and Mayweather.
money may and t bone /manny out boxed delahoya ,hatton and cotto what are you talking about.
Since Mayweather’s hand injuries became common knowledge he has fought 13 times. 6 of them have been OUTSIDE of Las Vegas. Corrales, Castillo, and ODLH were all bigger than Floyd and all thought to have the best chance of anyone to beat Floyd at the time of their fight. So anyone saying Mayweather only fights in Vegas and only can do well against smaller opponents are simply making stuff up. Blatantly lying.
I just got done checking some articles written immediately after ODLH-Forbes and everyone stated that it looked like Oscar suffered and lost strength from going down to 150. They were also in agreement that Oscar was a shell of his former self. Manny fought an Oscar 1 year older and 3 pounds lower in weight. And Mayweather already landed 85 more punches despite throwing 106 less before Oscar fought Forbes. So, it wasn’t something people just starting saying when Manny beat Oscar, in fact that Oscar was slower, weaker, and not nearly as good below 154 were all widely reported before a De La Hoya-Pacquiao match was even considered.
yeah, he out boxed Manny in those two fights. He also got his assed knocked to the canvas four times in those two fights? Robbed? I say he was given a gift. He only got a draw because the Judge admitted that he scored the fight wrong.
It’s very pitiful for you guys that keep bringing up Marquez, that you’d ignore the judge himself and keep living under the delusion that JMM actually won either of the fights.
Did Marquez bring Manny to hell and back? Yes he did. has Manny greatly improved since then? Yes. 10 out of 10 boxing writers will say the same thing. Could JMM even come close to today’s Manny? No effin way….
iguess jmm was overrated ?? he outboxed manny p for most of both fights …got robbed…
“Manny’s team demand that in the contract Oscar cannot rehydrate past the 147lb limit on fight night.”
- Is this true? Can you support that with some evidence, it seems pretty crazy if so.
“He couldn’t just say, Erik was the better man tonight. Which he was.”
- YES, he complained about the gloves and some other distractions, but I think you forget some of the things both he and Roach said after the fight. They both gave Morales all the credit and said he was the better man. And looked forward to a rematch.
And why don’t you give credit to Manny for coming back and winning both of their rematches? Or did Morales “wash up” somewhere between March of 2005 and January of 2006? Sure, Morales lost to Raheem after that but so what?
…ryan
Phooq;
Then how has 6 of floyd’s last 13 fights been outside Vegas? How did he beat Corrales and Castillo?? and Baldomir walked around @180?? Then he fought ODLH at OScar’s weight. Sure it sounds good when you say Floyd will only fight in Vegas and only against smaller opponents, but that is nothing but blatant lies. Floyd has fought the best regardless of their size and beat them throughout his entire career. He beat bigger fighters in Corrales, Castillo, and ODLH. At the time each one was supposed to have the best chance of erasing that “0″. He has fought outside of Vegas numerous times, including 6 of the 13 fights since Castillo I when his hand injuries became common knowledge. So the facts actually say that Floyd fights and beats bigger champions and inside and outside of Las Vegas. But hey, if you make up lies it makes Manny sound better, I feel ya.
Poultry;
Manny is a welterweight now so he gives a fighter who has trouble making 147, tires out quickly, and hadn’t fought or trained for 10 months 1 1/2 months to make weight and get in shape for the biggest fight of his career??? there are three top welterweights: Mayweather, Mosley, and Williams and now that Manny is a WW and Roach said he’s staying there he needs to fight some of the best. What kind of advantage does Manny need to step up to the plate?? Demanding an advantage to fight someone like Clottey makes one wonder how good Manny really is and why he is so scared. He balked at fighting Mosley and instead fought a shot Cotto and now he walked away from fighting floyd to fight Clottey. When the other top WW was available. Manny refuses to fight any of the top 3 WW’s. Floyd on the other hand is taking on the best. Without a catch-weight or giving him 1 1/2 months to get ready. Thats what the best do, they fight the best without unnecessary advantages.
Pacquiao’s style only works against come forward fighters?
Floyd’s style only works on overrated small fighters fighting outside their own weight class or old fighters that are years from their prime while fighting in Vegas so he can numb his fragile wittle hands so the little girl doesn’t get caught crying on national TV from the pain.
ryan;
yes, one can question if Manny’s improved. He’s fought two shot fighters that stood right in front of him. He had lots of trouble with counter-punches and fighters that use their feet and he’s been doing nothing but avoiding fighters like that. He seems to be getting more power in each fight though. Odd how someone gets more power after turning 30. I guess not though, Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire both got more power after their 30th birthday too.
ALL YOU MAYWEATHER BUTT SNORKLERS NEED TO CONCENTRATE ON MOSLEY. MOSLEY IS YOUR BIGGEST THREAT RIGHT NOW. UNLESS MAYWEATHER BAILS OUT WITH THE “I BROKE A NAIL” EXCUSE NOT TO FIGHT. WE WILL FIND OUT WHAT MAYWEATHER IS REALLY ABOUT IN MAY THEN IT WILL BE PACMAN’S TURN AT WHOEVER WINS.
t-bone you are the man !!
manny is a great fighter , i take nothing away from his accomplishments .. but mayweather is the man period !! manny p. dont do as good fighting when its not toe to toe..f.m. can and has adapted to every style of fighter ..hes fought bigger guys (believe it) and of course “smaller” guys with ALL different styles…some have come close but no one beat him yet..he will embaress pacman and most people knowlgable about boxing know that ..floyd can adapt to any style …no it wont be a toe to brawl but floyd will beat manny as bad if not worse than he did marquez ..sorry pac fans …get the excuses ready so when may.vs. pac. is made you are ready !!
@lex
That was a typo, my bad. I meant that even though the fight was at 147, DLH came in under. And not to mention Manny rehydrated to 149, which was higher than DLH.
You can’t deny Manny’s constant improvement though, and his growing ring generalship from a one-fisted puncher with questionable footwork.
…ryan
Manny Pacquiao cannot and will not beat Floyd Mayweather jr if they fight. However you want to look at it,by styles or skills or any other way no real fan of the sport can say truly that Manny can beat Floyd Jr.Manny’s style is only good for come forward styled fighters.Fighters that are flat footed.
Paquiao gets no credit for beating Cotto or Oscar. Why,Manny fights Cotto for HIS title and demands that Cotto comes in on the scales at 145lbs.The very next fight Manny fights a man in Clottey that is known to come into fights at welterweight heavier than Cotto does well over the 147lb limit at the full welterweight limit???defending the title that he took from Cotto.BS!.
Oscar, where do i start with that one…First,Manny’s team(Roach)demand that if Oscar comes in on the scales over the 147lb limit he(Oscar)will be fined a million dollars or something for every pound that he comes in over the 147lb limit.Next,Manny’s team demand that in the contract Oscar cannot rehydrate past the 147lb limit on fight night.Somethings wrong when Pacquiao comes into the fight and weighs more than Oscar who stands at 5’101/2″.Roach even said in an interview after the fight that when the two fighters came to the center of the ring for instructions he(Roach)seen blood still coming from the IV Mark on Osars arm where they were try’n to pump fluids into Oscars body minutes before the fight.
If any fighter that Pacquiao fights poses any kind of threat of beating Pacuiao then in come the demands from Manny’s team.I mean, the man(Manny)cant even give credit when its due.He got whooped by Erik Morales and what does he say after the fight.OH,the gloves…If i had the gloves that i wanted then..blah blah blah.My eye,i couldn’t see from my eye..blah blah…Oh,i took a blood test to close to the fight.LOL,thats my favorite one.He couldn’t just say,Erik was the better man tonight.Which he was.
Mosley didn’t feel disrespected when Floyd jr asked him to take random blood test.Mosley accepted, what happened to Pacquiao?Floyd jr is willing to take random blood testing for his fights, what happened to Pacquiao? So its not only Pacquiao that Floyd jr wants to take random blood testing to fight him?Hmmmm
“40 have tried and 40 have failed” is absolutely wrong brother… why? because in his 40 fights, there were a rematch and one of the examples here is the rematch with castillo.. it is right to say that mayweather has 40 fights but wrong to emphasize that he fought 40 boxers…
hope you get it…
25-12 sounds fair. It’s pretty surprising to see dundee “pick” Manny considering he’s gone to the corner of the last couple opponents pac has fought.
I’m not sure about the “Mayweather fighting the better Hatton” is all about. How is fighting a guy who admitted that he has no business fighting at welter equal fighting the best version of that guy? It doesn’t.
To be fair, Hatton wasn’t exactly stellar when he fought Manny, and had he never fought Mayweather, he still would have lost to Pacquiao. It wasn’t like Mayweather turned Hatton into a face-first fighter. Roach would have seen it and the result would have been the same. just sayin….
I believe Mayweather is on roids because he started his career (amateur) at 106 lbs. and he is even bigger than Pac. LOL! To top it off he is known to use PEDs while it is just speculation for Pac.
Lacemup I guess it is a good thing for Pac you were not a judge that night. Try this on. In the first fight, one of the judges scored that round 10-7 and the other two 10-6. Boxing rules REQUIRE that in a round where there are 3 knockdowns, it to be 10-6. That third judge made a FACTUAL error! No grey area here. HE MAID A MISTAKE. If I were Pac, I would have not let that slide so easily and would have petitioned to have the draw ruled a UD in his favor. But Pac is too much of a gentleman to do that. Not so for Marquez. Instead of being thankful that he got the draw on a MISTAKE, he and his fans cry how their man was robbed. What ever happened to gracious losers? The judges say the fist fight was a draw and Marquez lost the second. That is how boxing is. There are countless close decisions. Classy boxers accept them and move on. Here is a suggestion for Marquez if he ever fights Pac again. Try to keep your ass off the canvas next time. You look silly crying that you won, when your doing it while your back is on the canvas. That being said I take my hat off to Marquez in the first fight for pulling out a draw, even though, because of theerror in judging that draw has an asterisk next to it and Marquez was lucky to get it. Obviously if he was knocked down 3 times in the first round, he had to win the majority of the remaining rounds to get back to even, which he did. Yes if you just eliminate that first round he would have won. But guess what? It doesn’t that way. If you just eliminate all the rounds after the first Pac would have won. And if the 3 knockdown rule ws in effect, Pac would have won….by knockout and we would not have had to suffer thru the second fight and to be subjected to all of this incessant sore loser whining by Marquez and his die hard fans. Look, Ali was beaten by Jimmy Young, but they gave the decision to Ali. Young accepted it. That’s boxing. It is what it is. In football sometimes the result on an instant replay is horribly unfair. You accept it and move on. Marquez drew the first fight (by mistake) and he lost the second because the judges said so. Get over it.
Re-post this column when the time comes. But for now try to write Pacquiao vs Clottey and Mayweather vs Mosley even it says prediction.
Oops, should say excellent post. Can’t wait to seeing your next post!
Prediction is no more than an imagination. The outcome is not what you thought it would be. This can only happen when Floyd keep on running around the ring and not hitting Manny and you know sooner or later he’s going to get close to Manny or we will see a boring fight of the century.
Re-post this column when the time comes. But for now try to write Pacquiao vs Clottey and Mayweather vs Mosley even it says prediction.
Wayne, you seem to be a smart guy. So you must know what will happen when Pac beats May IF they ever fight. May Sr will give an interview and claim that Pac must be on some kind of brand new PED that there is no test for yet. No other explanation for how a guy who started out at 106 (like his son) could beat up his boy like that. Do you really think Mayweather will accept defeat graciously? It will be like Tyson fighting Holyfield. He was getting beat (and intentionally head butted) and he could not accept losing a second time and so he lost it and bit Holyfiels earlobe off. Can you really imagine EVER Mayweather telling Larry Merchant that he lost to a better man that night? Pac is in a no win situation if he fights Mayweather. Even if he wins, and especially if he wins big, like by a ko, Mayweather and his gang mentality family, will come up with some excuse why it happened. And if they can smear Pac some more at the same time, all the better. The die hard Mayweather fans, with no where else to go, will fall right in line. Just my prediction…IF they ever fight.
my dear people its called BOXING for a reason not tot 2 toe brawling !! and by the way I never saw j.m.m. land one meaningfull punch in that fight with mayweather !! i dont care what the decision was i say jmm beat manny p. both times !! helps to have the biggest promoter in the buis.. sorry juan..
El Condor. Exactly my point. Do you think Mayweather would care if Pauli Maglinaggi took PED’s if they were to fight each other?
donkey:
thats right!…
LMAO!!! Since when has Manny not hit any of his opponents. If a slow Marquez can hit Mayweather, why would this author actually think Manny can’t hit Mayweather???? SO STUPID!!!!
Perfect defense, ultimate defense, all kinds of defense, whatever you want to call it….doesn’t make a good fight.
That is why Floyd is not the Fighter of the Decade.
A real fighter fights toe to toe. I don’t care about perfect technical defense, it makes a fight boring.
Is there any award for that?
steroid or not, xylocaine or not
LET’S FIGHT!
NO FEAR!
NO BS!
If Mayweather is indeed a shoo-in in a fight against Pacquiao…I must still wonder why he had to impose so many unreasonable conditions that eventually killed their planned March 13 encounter. So, Mayweather’s “sure” to win? Well and good – let him step in the ring with the PacMan, no more excuses!
pac man… pac man please get off the roids stop fighting pass there prime slow fighter, and fight a african american boy…
who is jim watt? is he a boxer like me?
Only thing I can say with all this Mayweather fans accusing Manny of avoiding the good welterweights……
Check your heads… Seriously, you guys need to rethink where you are standing…
Just a couple of questions to make you see the lies you are spreading:
How long has Manny been in welter?
Yep that’s right..
How long has Mayweather been in welter?
That’s right….
And what sort of quality has Mayweather fought at welter after the number of years he has been in the division?
Thought so…
How about Manny??
mmmm
Make sense now?
monet mayweather /manny has been fighting the best fighters out there fm is the one not fighting the best fighters for years untile berto pulled out and has to fight shane
manny is a much better boxer now .and a better deffence than before .since the morales fight.
money may /floyed is just about the only fighter that will not fight head on floyed fights going backwards then counters thats all he does most fighters meet in the middle of the ring .and no body is protecting manny period .
the fact is manny is great fighting people that have little or no defense !! then he looks real good ..thats why his people pick the fighters they do for him..they are protecting him..look at james toney for instance , he knocked out holyield cause holy came right at him , made him look good and fits toneys style.. then watch some of toneys fights when people mix it up and have a solid defense toney dont look so good then !! same thing w manny p…if you go toe to toe you will get ktfo !! by the way I think manny is one of the few that came from the lightest weights and gained a sh54load of power and keeps gettting stronger !! hmmm wonder why that is ?? thats old news , anyway the blueprint to beat pacman is watch how eric morales did it ..let him follow you and miss and keep taging him in the process .. i think when fighters miss w power shots it tires them out faster ..this will be floyds fight to win !! manny will say he had the flu or something !! it couldnt be the skills of floyd m. that beat him ..come on manny fight a top fighter that has great defense along w great skills ..
lex_fugitive said “Mosley never challenged Floyd until Manny “balked” at fighting him.
That’s so stupid. Have you seen Mayweather Vs Marquez fight? After the fight when Mosley asked Flyod to fight him? Mosley already asked Floyd to fight him before the talked between Mayweather & Pacquiao. Stop posting if you don’t have facts because I think you’re just chicken Floyd fan. lol
@lex,
I just read one of your comments. Why is it that everytime Pacquiao fights a bigger, stronger fighter (ex. DLH, Hatton, Cotto) most analysts say that pacquiao is way over his head. He can’t overcome a naturaly bigger fighter in spite of his speed. This is what they said with the Cotto fight. Most were even saying Cotto will win by UD. Same with DLH. Now after the fight when Pacquiao wins comes the excuses: Pacquiao won because the other fighter was already shot, over the hill, drained, etc. Pls. answer me that. The least you can do is be fair and truthful in your assessments.
@commonsense,
You have a point there. Actually, I think I was 14-15 then very much easily impressed lol. So when I saw Tyson do what he did it was pretty amazing for a kid to see back then. But, you’re right. I seem to remember now what my uncles said after the fight, and that Spinks probably just laid down there because he was scared to get damaged if he went toe-to-toe with Tyson further.
Back to Mayweather and Pacquiao, i do hope it happens this year. No more BS demands from Mayweather and no more catchweights either from Pacquiao. All required tests will be done according to NSAC standards and that they fight at 147. No more. No less.
easy sparring work for floyd , take the $1.70 when this fight gets made again , best value since the $1.65 lewis against tyson.
pacquiao will hit floyd once and flotd will go down and then no more.
watch pacquiao-cotto… people up and down their seats shouting aww! allthe time standing and applauding after evry round and extreme gratification at the end of fight. fighter of the decade. not floyd, not even close to top choice. maybe floyd will win next time they give it, not! sorry floydfans!
Jasz, the Tyson Spinks fight was hardly what I would categorize as “amazing”. The Tyson Frazier fight. That was so devastating it was genuinely scary. Awesome. But Tyson Spinks? I saw an interview with both Tyson and Spinks sitting next to each other a couple of months before that fight, just after it was signed. And in that interview, Spinks commented that he “just didn’t want to get hurt”. Huh? Well there is a comment that must have struck fear into the heart of Tyson. Based upon that comment and based upon what I saw in that fight, personally I think that Spinks laid down. Spinks was scared to death in that fight. The first knockdown, Tyson’s trademark, hook uppercut combination. OK, that was a knockdown. The second one, the one that sent Spinks backward thru the ropes that ended the fight, I didn’t see it. Yeah I saw Tyson’s glove on Spinks’ face but I didn’t really see any sensational impact to explain Spinks falling backward thru the ropes and to lose his senses. Not the way Pac kayoed Hatton with one punch. Not in the way Lennox Lewis kayoed Rahman with one punch. Not in the way Hearns kayoed Duran with a punch so devasting I thought he killed him with that punch. Personally I think that Spinks was looking for a place to fall and was waiting for any punch from Tyson that he could get away with going down and staying down from. I think Spinks picked up his easy payday and accomplished his goal – he didn’t get “hurt”. Just my opinion.
i believe pac has a problem with fighters who move constantly thats why when you look at his resume you don’t find slick boxer-movers (NOT ONE). He is most effective against stationery flat-footed opponents who suit his in and out style. Against mayweather he will face the ultimate mobile fighter who is fast and hard to hit plus possesses a laser straight right hand which pacroid is most vulnerable to
I used to think Jim Watt was a brilliant boxing pundit. I still think his general knowledge is decent but after his terrible scoring of the Haye-Valuev fight then I tend not to listen too much to what he has to say regarding big fight predictions!!
Mayweather will box Pac Man’s head off!
I’m not a boxing expert, i’m just a regular boxing fan. But you could say I grew up watching the fights of Hagler, Leonard, Hearns, Duran, Spinks, Holmes, Tyson, to name a few. I could still remember the Hagler-Hearns fight when Hagler KOd Hearns. It was amazing! I also watched how Tyson knocked out Spinks in the 1st round (I think in less than a minute into the fight). Unreal! Those were great fights. Those were times when a fighter had no fear and fought the best. No ducking. No excuses.
Having said that. I just hope that the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight pushes thru in the future. I’m a Pacquiao fan. I’ve seen him fight when he was still an unknown fighter and he was pretty amazing then. But, everytime he fights a bigger, stronger fighter I have butterflies in my stomach. Thinking what the hell is he thinking fighting a much bigger fighter? If Pacquiao-Mayweather pushes thru I’ll have the same butterflies again. But, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Mayweather is a damn superb defensive fighter and an excellent counter-puncher. As we all know Pacquiao has had problems with counter-punchers. But Mayweather has also had problems fighting a southpaw. Like they said styles makes fights. Mayweather has not fought someone who gives out volumes of accurate and powerful punches. Mayweather will use his shoulder roll to protect his chin but his shoulder will get punished for that by Pacquiao’s powerful punches.
If Pacquiao fails to demolish Mayweather’s shoulder roll it can go for a split decision in favor of the latter, as the judges may see the former as not that effective. But I dare say, this is a very dangerous fight for Mayweather. Pacquiao has a habit of trumping previous predictions that he will not win. Pacquiao’s power and lighting speed may be enough to overcome Mayweather’s defenses. Both fighters are very fast but in different ways: Mayweather is very quick defensively, while Pacquiao is very fast offensively. Which will prevail?
In any sports, the coach is very important
in planning the game and making decision on
how to implement the secret weapon, it is very
effective if the player is cooperating with
the coach.
Looking back on all Pacman fights, he had been
a good follower to Roach and if Roach’s decision
is not working you see Pacman will make a decision
to do certain things to make the fight favor
to themselves and vice versa….
This two had been together for almost 10 years,
they know each other strength and weaknesses.
I believe that nobody will put this guys away
they will be the greatest duo in the sports of boxing!!!
On the surface, Floyd records are impressive but if you look at deeply into the quality of opponents he has, 99% are underrated or average fighter and 1% in the top five. Pac on the otherhand, have fought almost all the best fighters in the world from 106 lbs to 147+- lbs, and won almost all of them in a convincing fashion. Bottomline, Pac is entirely a different boxer now under Roach tutulage. If Floyd is lucky to pass on SSM, then the ultimate test would be Pac and the result is obvious->Pac winning by KO in 9th. Guaranteed, Floyd face would be pretty no more..
Joseph;
LMAO you make it sound so easy. Well 40 have tried and 40 have failed so I guess its not as easy as you make it sound. However, you are right the only way to cause Mayweather trouble is with a good jab. ODLH looked good for 2 or 3 rounds using his jab. But Mayweather finds a way to avoid getting hit and counters. And I can tell you what offense he uses. A superb straight right and a crisp left hook. And against Manny Floyd would use his jab a lot too, making Manny eat a couple jabs and/or straight rights to get close enough to hit him. Mayweather can utilize his size over smaller fighters with the best of them. Pac’s got a puncher’s chance in any fight, but it would be extremely hard to get close enough to land anything against Floyd and even harder to land something when he is inside. Mosley though has a real chance of erasing that “0″ but the fact that he ran from floyd for 10 years and that Floyd called him out twice in that time, makes me think both think Floyd will win. Remember, Mosley never challenged Floyd until Manny “balked” at fighting him.
Take the opinion of those you listed. But what about the opinions of majority? What about the opinions of most boxers out there?
Anyways, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion.
IMHO, both of them are tough. I still believe it’s no ordinary to be completely defensive against a boxer who releases 10 big punches simultaneouly. ODLH admitted that. “Hard punches are coming from different angles” as he quoted.
Pacman and Roach adopts a new style for each opponent and thus far, they have been very successful. I’m sure that they will also come up with a different style after closely stydying Mayweather’s last fights. If Mayweather keeps covering himself with his shoulders, then Pacman will just use these as a punching bag and pretty soon Mayweather’s shoulders will be so sore that he will be forced to open up and fight. Pacman by KO/TKO between 8th and 10th.
as i have said, pbf maybe smart, but as ryan has mentioned, pac continues to improve. and roach has somehow been vocal that although pbf may be too perfect, but they have the perfect game plan for him.
pbf may pot shot pac whole night and i know pac can withstand all of them, but the real question is, if in case pac hits mayweather with a “hatton punch”, can pbf handle that?
Do you notice how everyone who predicts Mayweather always do so based on his defense. They never say how he will beat Paq. with any offense. Defense is only part of the game. What offense can Floyd use when he is only worried about not getting hit. And that shoulder roll against the ropes will not work with Paq. Paqman will go to the body or he will go in with straight left and right punches and the shoulder roll is no good against such combination punches. The shoulder roll is only usefull against hook type punches because of the angles. The jab, $right hand and that straight left hand that Manny throws will land on Maywhether despite his shoulder rolls But Manny throws from all angles and Floyd will be overwhelmed.
A good example is the Dela Hoya fight when he used his jab straight right hand he hit Mayweather, but he got tired. Another ex. James Toney uses the same defense and if you look at his fights with Peter (rematch) Peter used his jab straight right hand and Toney’s shoulder roll could not block those punches. Its all a question of angles used and Manny uses all of them. Right and left hooks just slip and glide off the shoulders and arms because of the angle of Mayw.’s body. If a fighter takes a step back throws in a jab, straight right hand, they will land. Most of all when Mayw. shoulder rolls and he is say leaning to his right he will be in the perfect position for Paq’s best and strongest punch, the straight left hand.
So you see, that is how Manny can and will defeat Mayw. A superior offense with answers to all of Floyds defenses.
Floyd likes either to hit and clinch or hit and run, thus preventing his opponent from giving him a clean shot. If PBF can sustain this tactic throughout the fight, he will surely be the winner. But I just wonder how good he is in receiving body shots because if keeps clinching, the Pacman will likely target his body. I know PBF has never been hit by someone as strong as the Pacman. I have seen a lot of no-loss fighters kiss the deck after getting hit. I know the Pacman can do it to PBF. I hope the fight materializes and PBF is the over-whelming favorite because I will definitely bet on the Pacman.

Floyd,Jr knew that hes gonna lose the fight… so get some alibis.. delaying tactics..
Mosley beats margarito last january after margarito beat cotto but pacquiao refuses to fight mosley and instead goes after hatton and cotto. why not go after mosley who is the top welterweight. In fact he is the super welterweight champ. So why doesn’t pacquiao go after him? Every floyd hater in the world says that he ducks the elite fighter but pacquiao didn’t even consider fighting shane even when shane said he’ll go all the way down to 140 and take a lot less than half of the split. arum and pacquiao carefully choose slow mentally beat opponents coming off a loss. why did he refuse to fight shane who was coming off an impressive win? instead he fights cotto and hatton who were both coming off KO losses(their first) and clottley who is coming off a loss also. And arum already said he will probably fight margarito after clottley. Another punching bag that just stands there and takes punches. Pacquiao is notorious for cherry-picking opponents that will just stand there and take punches
Ryan;
Another lie by a Pacfan. Wow, this is getting old. Manny weighed 142 and Oscar 145. However, I give you credit, you are right, Oscar definitely wasn’t in prime condition or shape for a fight. That isn’t Manny’s fault, but by your own admission Oscar wasn’t prepared. Then to follow that up with two opponents who many were questioning and who don’t use their feet, and now against the flat-footed Clottey, gives one the impression that he won’t fight any “boxer” or one of the best welterweights. I just hope Manny will fight one of the top welterweights someday.
This article doesn’t matter, simply because Manny will never fight Mosley, Mayweather, or Williams the three best welterweights in the world. Of course he can beat Clottey, that’s why he took the fight. And the boxing world felt Mayweather beat ODLH rather easily. Why hasn’t Manny fought anyone recently that didn’t have serious questions regarding their skills? Hatton’s fights after getting knocked out by Mayweather he didn’t look like the same fighter as before. Thats just the facts. And anyone that thinks Cotto looked the same after the plaster-of-paris needs the head checked. JMM proved Manny isn’t any superman, and JMM is the last opponent Manny fought that people weren’t questioning how faded he would be compared to his earlier fights. Manny can prove all the doubters wrong by taking on any of the top three welterweights, but he never will. Manny is hoping Cotto can take Yuri Foreman’s title and then Manny will fight at a catch-weight of probably 148 and win another paper title. If Cotto can’t win that title, then Manny will probably just retire or take on another second-tier opponent.
Carl Froch’s house is a giveaway!
And regarding ODLH’s weight drain. Manny came in at 145, ODLH came in at 142 !?!?!? That’s on ODLH guys, don’t fault Manny.
And don’t forget, Manny was jumping around in weight just as much, but dominant in every match. JMM @ 130, D. Diaz @ 135, ODLH @ 145, Hatton @ 140, Cotto at 145… all KO’s except for JMM, a fighter with the right skills to match against Manny, but who would obviously be destroyed if they ever fought a 3rd match. If JMM fights and wins over Khan, he may see a 3rd fight with Manny yet!
…ryan
And to the person who thought Roach got assed out when he trained ODLH, remember buddy, that was a split decision win, by no means did Floyd convince the world that he is untouchable. Manny did that instead, when he faced the same ODLH who nearly beat floyd. Weight drained or not, ODLH ran a poor training camp, and I would argue took the fight for $$$ knowing he could never truly win in the first place.
Boxing is 90% preparation and 10% perspiration, and ODLH was not prepared… Manny, on the other hand, is ALWAYS prepared, and steadily improving under the loyal tutelage of Roach. Call me a Pactard all you want, I’ll be the one on the winning side of the bet.
…ryan
The difference between Manny and Floyd is that Manny has been consistently improving as a boxer as recently as his Cotto fight, while Floyd has been comfortable at his cruising altitude for many years now.
And for those who say Hatton was shot after losing to Mayweather, give me a break. He was fighting at 147, and STILL gave Mayweather a run for his money. The only reason he was even TKO’d was because he abandoned his game plan out of frustration and just opened up on Mayweather.
Unlike Hatton, however, Manny has superb head movement, outstanding balance, and the ability to throw a power punch literally from every angle and with both fists.
He came back down to his proper weight and destroyed Lazcano 12 rounds to 0, and TKO’d Malignaggi in the 11th, both at 139. Then he came back to meet Manny, and got knocked unconscious in the 2nd round.
Manny will force Floyd out of his gameplan and expose a limited set of skills that only work when you can keep your opponent at bay and counter him with quick flurries. Manny will take those combinations, slam his gloves together, and then march Floyd into the ropes where he’ll destroy the body before heading upstairs.
Mark my words, I’ll even let you keep your house (or apartment, or your mom’s place lol) if I’m wrong.
…ryan
The only one that can beat Mayweather besides Pacquiao will be Ivan Calderon.
Floyd Jr. will kiss the canvas if ever he’ll fight Pacquiao. His defense will not be able to withstand the clusters of punches of Manny coming from all directions. But the fight will never happen because Floyd Jr. will not go against the advise of his pops not to to fight him. Sr. is just protecting his son like a good father should, this was said by pops in an interview. And I think this Sugar/Floyd jr. fight will be milk by GBP and this will become a trilogy.
Pacfans claim people only make excuses after Manny beats people and that Manny was some great underdog. The facts are he was an underdog against ODLH, but only by the slightest margins, the odds couldn’t have been closer. Many wondered before the fight how much having to make 147 would effect Oscar and thats why the odds were so close. Then as far as Hatton and Cotto, both looked poor in narrow victories after suffering knockout losses. Many questioned how much both of these fighters had left mentally and physically before Manny ever signed to fight them. And thats why Manny was a heavy favorite in both. He was a 3 1/2 to 1 favorite over Cotto, and there were numerous articles questioning if Cotto was shot before Manny had signed. Manny is a great fighter, but his last three opponents all had serious questions surrounding them and their ability before Manny decided to fight them. Fortunately, there aren’t any of these questions with Clottey. Everyone knows he tires out quickly, doesn’t throw many punches, and stands still the whole fight.
first of all.. mayweather has to pass mosley before he gets to pacquiao… none of these voting works when mayweather looses…
jim watt was a boxer and sounds very knowledgeable in his commentaries but when it comes to predictions he’s quite inept..
You don’t even own a home, how can bet your house on it! I don’t know if you really understand what your talking about. Mayweather would be out of rythm when he get hit by a real boxer like Pacquiao. Floyd won’t even beat the aging Mosley!
i hope carl froch would not bet his house he might ended up homeless!again you’re underestimating pacquiao but he has proven himself again and again!ironically, shane and floyd are slugging it out to face pacquiao!logically, pacquiao is the greatest of them all!those who believe that mayweather will win bet all fortunes then!and all of you might end up as a drifter!
Mayweather will move backwards against pacquiao. He maybe wins but the fight might end up boring as ever. I still think Erik Morales is good opponent for Pacquiao. The best out there!!! No fear. No too much backwards
Everybody has their own opinion, but it’s been said before…
against dela Hoya and Cotto. Still, there’s a cloud of doubt on Floyd due to the fact that though he’s (very) talented, the opposition he’s faced can’t prove any meterstick for the outcome. He has yet to face an elite fighter. That’s what makes it interesting…
What a great comment by Jim Watt “Ithink Pacquaio will find it’s difficult to find rythm when nothing’s landing.” That along with the fact that Pac has the height/reach disadvantage makes me lean toward Mayweather.
@ Paul;
where on earth did you get your analogy that once a boxer is beaten for the first time he gets beat easier after that, complete rubbish..all the greats in boxing had tasted their frist defeat yet came back strong and became legends in their own rights..please get real..
I know contracts have been signed already in both fights. But,I highly believe the two camps can agree on something just for the public. The whole world want this fight badly. Anyway, this is what Im thinking; What if Clottey fights mosley and then, mayweather fights pacquiao? Come on guys, this can be arranged easily and it is not too late. Do this just for the boxing world because I can see an upsets in the pending bouts, and the boxing world will not in decades, witness a fight of this magnitude. I rest my case

Here’s another equation for you boxing no-nothings…Holyfield beat Foreman, Moorer beat Holyfield, Foreman beats Moorer. Let this end the Hatton, DelaHoya, Marquez debatacle. It means squat. Let my comparisons end the debate once and for all.
Hatton Dela Hoya and Cotto? Hatton was aready beaten by Mayweather, once a boxer is beaten for the first time he gets beat easier after that, Dela Hoya was drained trying to move down in weight, anybody can see he wasn’t the same, I have the decency not to mention Cotto and Margarito

Tim Bradley provided the best prediction. I also think it will be a easy fight for Floyd, I like Pac but he is going to be there to be hit no matter what strategy Roach comes up with. Manny is a good offensive fighter but defensively he is severely lacking and when he throws his combos he leaves himself wide open for counters. Floyd is going to capitalize on those openings and win a easy UD, unless we have another night of poor judging. Mayweather might not fight the best fighters out there all the time and is not loved by all fans or boxing experts, but none of that makes a difference when it comes to flat out skills and ability. Mayweather wins easy….
Carl Froch who? Hatton who? Boxers that came short, Bradley who? Tarver who, senior boxer. When this two fights Mayweathers jab will not win this fight, combination punches wins fight.Lol and Mayweather will be busted too, just like boxers that went ahead of him, Hatton, De la Hoya and Cotto, all thought will win hands down. If these people, i’ll just keep it to myself just to save face, coz it’s always wrong. Jabs don’t win fights.
Frazier beat Ali, Foreman beat Frazier, Ali beat Foreman. Cotto beat Mosley, Margarito beat Cotto, Mosley beats Margarito. My point? All you idiots who keep comparing how fighters do against the same opponents need to zip it. It means nothing and you all keep proving how much you know nothing about boxing. Styles make fights. Just like any given sunday in the NFL…any given fight night, depending on wear and tear, training camps and mental toughness, any fighter can be beat by another. Previous match ups against like opponents mean nothing. Fallback and wait to see the outcomes of the fights…so retarded these bloggers are!
People it’s simple I like the majority would love to see the people’s champ pacquiao win… However my brain tells me it’s going to be mayweather he is simply THE BEST!!!!
Excuses abound as to why Pac won (opponents lost). What about Pac. He’s been in more battles than many of the fighters he recently faced and still shines bright. Why isn’t Pac’s past fiere battles entered into the commentary when they say Hatton, DLH, Cotto are all washed up. Personally, I think Hatton and Cotto can still be effective. But it takes heart and Pac has a lot of that. He also fights for something greater than himself. Something to think about.
Carl Froch I take your bet, lets hand shake,my house for your house,ha.carl they been saying this for years many many fight ago. this fight manny has bit off more than he can chew,he going to be beat up bad, yep, damm its been a long 10 year wonderful ride, thanks pac, floyd will lose it when he feel a few real solid punches.mr defense will decide to take a quick nap .
Carl Froch has been hit too many times in the head. He just said the 10 out of 10 Mayweather will win. Therefore if you bet May to win, no matter if you get crappy odds, it is win-win. But then he states he would have to get good odds. Logic doesn’t compute in his head I guess.
Very good writer, objective and scientific, statistical unlike Dave Lahr, the ridiculous no logic writer.
i dont know about jim watts, but watching skysport version of pacman vs cotto. jim got so excited he sounds like he wet his boxers. he knows pac is the most exciting boxer in the planet.
Manny was only the slightest underdog against ODLH. There were plenty of questions about how much it would affect Oscar having to make 147. Thats why the odds couldn’t have been much closer. As for Hatton and Cotto, Manny was the heavy favorite since both of them looked poor in narrow victories after they suffered knockout losses. Which is why Manny fought them. And why he was the favorite. All the experts said they were both shot. Before Manny signed to fight them. Pacfans keep making up different lies to try and back up their idol. Its getting really sad and pathetic.
shane mosley is huge obstacle for may weather. I am not sure he could pass this obstacle or stay at 40. all the best goes to may weather, I know he is in big trouble.
Why do Pacfans have to keep lying to back up their idol??? Its true Manny was the underdog against ODLH but only by the slightest margin. Many wondered how much it would effect Oscar making 147. The odds couldn’t have been much closer. And Manny was the heavy favorite against Hatton and Cotto. Neither of those two looked half as good after suffering knockout losses. Thats why Manny was the heavy favorite. Not the underdog. Hatton was only a slight underdog against Mayweather because Hatton looked really good and tough in his fights before that. Hatton and Cotto were not considered the same after getting knocked out, and there are numerous articles stating this that were written BEFORE Manny ever signed to fight them. Thats why Manny fought them!!!
pacquiao by knockout.
Can you please stop obsessing about how Mayweather will beat Pacquiao. Last time I checked they are not even fighting each other. Pacquiao has moved on and so should you.
Also, if I remember correctly didn’t those so called experts predicted how Pacquiao will lose to De LaHoya ,Hatton and Cotto and how did those fights turned out?
Sean;
Manny was the underdog against Oscar but only by the slightest margin. In fact, all the so-called experts and anaysts knew making 147 would affect ODLH, they just didn’t know how much. As for Hatton, come on, Hatton hadn’t looked the same since getting dominated for 10 rounds and knocked out by Floyd. Manny was a heavy favorite against Hatton for a reason. Cotto looked shot against Clottey, in fact there are numerous articles stating this before Manny ever signed to fight him. None of these were big upsets, in fact Hatton and Cotto were about twice the underdog against Manny compared to Manny against ODLH. For the first time in two years Manny is fighting someone without a lot of questions if they are still good. There is no question Clottey is decent but no grade A fighter and that he gets tired after round 6. So you can lie and say what a big upset Manny wins are, but actually thats a lie. Just like his reasons for not giving blood. Honestly, Manny fans need to quit lying, if you have to make stuff up to back up your idol, maybe that should tell you something.
@ Matthew:
you said Hatton, De La Hoya and Marquez have been in the ring with both of them and all 3 think Mayweather will win if they fight…of course they are going to sing the same tune because they are belong to the same CHOIR…
FACTS:
PACQUIAO KD MARQUEZ 4X MAYWEATHER KD MARQUEZ 1X
PACQUIAO TKO DLH 9 MAYWEATHER D 12 (CONTROVERSIAL)
(DLH NO ROUNDS WON)
PACQUIAO KO HATTON 2 MAYWETHAR KO HAT 10 (1-4 RDS HATTON)
Justthefacts
that’s what ricky said I dant make it up
Sean;
Actually you are dead wrong. Manny was given a real chance of winning. He was an underdog, but just barely. The fact is most of the boxing anaylsts knew ODLH would have trouble making 147 and there were a lot of questions concerning how much it would effect him. There were also a lot of questions surrounding how good Hatton and Cotto were after getting knocked out and then not looking the same in their next fights. Now, there really isn’t any question in clottey, he’s decent but he’s not a grade A fighter, he has difficulty making 147 and he wears out halfway through a fight. So you can lie and say what a huge upset it was when Manny won, but actually it wasn’t.
just want to remind people that when pacquiao fought against de la hoya, all of the so called experts didn’t give pacquiao any chance to win..what they said after the fight? DLH was drained, BULLSHIRTS!!!…before the fight against Hatton again all the so called experts thought Hatton was too strong for pacquiao but what they said after the fight? another BULLSHIRTS ALIBIS..and all the same old BULLSHIRTS story against cotto..against folyd jr? well, jr was not the same fighter before he retired..what else??
Pacquiao has fought all the greatest P4P fighters, he has been in wars and has fought the best each division has had to offer.
Morales x3, Barrera x2, Marquez x2, Hatton, Cotto and De La Hoya – What a list of names, all P4P fighters when he fought them besides Oscar (who everyone thought would be too big and too strong). The guy is a legend.
Mayweather is a great boxer but his list is not as good.
Corrales, Castillo, Judah, De La Hoya, Hatton, Marquez – The last three names Pacquiao did a much more convincing job of defeating – taking into account that Marquez had to move up 2 weight divisions for the Mayweather bout. De La Hoya actually gave Floyd a lot of problems.
Floyd Mayweather is a fantastic, amazing boxer but needs to fight some dangerous guys… Mosley is a start, Williams would be great, etc, etc. As it stands Pacquiao stands head and shoulders above everyone else at this time.
Ill remember this post when paquiao vs floyd comes, just like they doubt many in every fight he made!and we all know wht happend to the boxing expert wanna be!
If there were any doubt that Manny Pacquiao is the biggest star of his sport, it was put to rest by members of the Boxing Writers Association of America. By an overwhelming margin, Pacquiao took home not only the BWAA’s newly named “Sugar Ray Robinson Fighter of the Year” award, but went one better by also winning “Fighter of the Decade” honors. For Pacquiao, it was his third BWAA “Fighter of the Year” award, tying him with Muhammad Ali and Evander Holyfield for the most in the history of the organization.
let`s all accept the fact that pacquiao is currently the best fighter of the world..
I can’t believe the so called experts don’t think Manny will be able to land against Floyd. Oscar landed 82 power shots according to compubox. I’m sure everyone will agree that Manny is faster than Oscar plus he is a southpaw like Judah that gave Mayweather a little trouble. On top of that Mayweather will be almost 4 years older than when he met Oscar if he decides to fight Manny if he survives a war with Shane. Manny has power in both hands and Floyd has to worry about the different angles the punches will come from. Manny only has to stay outside of Floyds right hook. I’d be suprised if this fight last 8 rounds. Manny has to much offence and he will make Floyd fight at a faster pace than he’s use to.
mayweather easy win. Stoppage on cuts
This is BS, let’s move on. Right now Pacquiao vs Mayweather not figthing. Just write about Mosley vs Mayweather and Pacquiao vs Clottey and you can predict these 2 fights. Yes, it would be difficult for Pacquiao to find rhythm coz his not fighting Mayweather, his fighting Clottey.
To jurbinsky
Was Judah able to hit Mayweather? YOU BET!
That was even a controversial decision in favour of Mayweather. Watch JUDAH Vs MAYWEATHER on youtube. You’ll see Judah hit Mayweather and Mayweather wobbled.
That’s the same Judah that Cotto beat. And we all know Pacquiao beat Cotto.
mayweather is THE MOST BOring bOxer……..
PERIOD…………………………
To Matthew
You sound like Mayweather. You claim to be the best but there is no evidence to support it. Mosley will give Mayweather a hard time. Mayweather only signed up for Mosley because he was out of option. We all know he hesitated. Because if he loses to Mosley, he will find it difficult to negotiate a megafight with Pacquiao. and Mosley will not give away that fight.
Pacquiao was a brawler who won seven titles in seven weight division. And he is not even at his best.
We can all claim to be the best. But where is the evidence. Mayweather can’t even clean up the welterweight division. At least MOsley is a champion. And Mosley is not afraid to fight the best out there. I want a Mosley-Pacquiao match. Mayweather is boring. He can’t even knock Marquez properly. More like push him with a sidestep.
maybe im first to say but floyd has to beat mosley first. and if he dont then mosley gets royalties to pac. but mosley by ko in rd 9. sorry but mosley is a true welter and i think hes way better than dlh. shoot he would even beat delahoya 10 years ago at this age.
James,
What’s a lemitation? Hahaha what about pacs style is a nightmare? His speed mayweather ties probably even bests it. His strength? What good is strength if you don’t connect? His offense? His punches willroll of floyds should and since he stays open he will get countered so what makes him a nightmare. For floyd
The fights not happening lets leave it at that.
paquiao style is a nightmare for floyd that’s why he ducked him, floyd knows his lemitation. this fight with mosley is a tune up for floyd. but that’s not gonna do any good for him because paquiao legacy is to rule boxing history. floyd is just another menu for paquiao.
If Mayweather wins it is by decision, But he has a disadvantage in that department as judges tend to favour offensive fighters, i say tend to as you get the occasional fight such as Haye Valuev where the judges go the other way. Also in real time it looks like Money is getting hit when he is actually not. Therefore, i think Pacquiao to win by controversial split decision, even though i think Floyd is better.
Was Judah able to hit Maywether? And what about Castillo? Even dela Hoya said that if he did not go forward, there would be no fight. Maywether was all backpedalling and sneaking quick punches whenever dela Hoya was charging n the absence of decent jabs.
Probably Judah and Castillo were better boxers than Pacquiao. Of course, any boxer is better than Pacquiao. In fact all fighters whom Pacquiao beat were all in the downslide, namely: Morales, Barrera, Solis, Diaz (the division champ), dela Hoya (drained?), Hatton (division champ) and Cotto (division champ).
Dela Hoya weighed in at 147 lbs, fought at 154 lbs against Pacquiao who weighed 155 lbs. that night.
i think mayweather will beat pac man on points or maybe even late stoppage. As much as manny did beat cotto, manny did get caught a few times early on against him and mayweather is great a picking shots. So money for me folks
“it’s difficult to find a rhythm when nothing’s landing.”
I do not agree with this one. I think it is the other way around. I think it will be hard for Mayweather to avoid the punches if he don’t know where it is coming from. Most of mayweather’s opponent is very predictable especially Hatton, just like what roach mentioned before when he fought pacquiao and. If you listen to almost all of Pacquiao’s opponent after the fight, they will always say they did not see the punch coming because it comes from all angles.
Anyone who thinks Manny is smarter than Floyd in the ring is just plain delusional!
Mayweather is far too skilled for Pacquiao. If it happens it’s gonna take something special for Pacquiao to beat Floyd.
Lets not talk about this yet. Both have fights against 2 of the best welterweights in Mosley and Clottey. If Mayweather and Pacquiao come out on top after these fights then it’s time for the big one again.
Mosley ko mayweather? He has to connect in order to ko. He isn’t fast enough to connect nice try though.
And no pac relies on his speed and stregth. No matter how he adapts he will still need to exchange with mayweather to win. And with his hands dropping everytime he throws an combo I don’t see him winning
matthew, ok yeah, roach was not smart before. but i guess he is much smarter now.
Matthew – on the contrary, Roach employed an effective game plan. However, ODLH failed to deploy it effectively towards the later rounds when he gassed and faded. His failure to consistently deliver Roach’s “master-plan” became his downfall.
Pacquiao’s strength is not just speed and punching power. It’s the ability to adapt to situations.
…..
What? He’s just a brawler that throws punches from tricky angles.
Mayweather is the real artist and the most technically gifted boxer in the World today, if people thought Pac struggled with JMM counter punching (which is why he hasn’t faced anyone with either good counter punching skills or good head movement since) then wait until you see what Floyd does to him.
I really loved to read the peoples prediction But Gentleman I dont think that this fight gonna be that easy to floyd he knows his ability he has seen that pacman taking the punch of cotto and he know how pacman knock down 140pound champ ricky hatton he know how quickly pacman can hit and run while fighting against dela hoya think about it guys how much may weather got humiliate by his own fans when he asked pacman about nonsense blood test
mosley will knock out mayweather
so it becomes
mosley vs pacman !
Hatton, De La Hoya and Marquez have been in the ring with both of them and all 3 think Mayweather will win if they fight.
Pacquiao’s strength is not just speed and punching power. It’s the ability to adapt to situations. There are loads of fighters who are fast and hard punchers. But Pacquiao can see an opening and takes advantage. Watch Morales fight, knock down by the rope. Watch Cotto fight, knockdown by right hand. Watch Marquez II, knockdown during exchange. You can’t say Marquez, Cotto and Morales are slow. But still Pacquiao saw openings and he took it. And Mayweather fight will not be different. Mayweather is a technician, yes. He can do the maths. But Pacquiao is the artist. He is unpredictable.
justthefacts – Hatton was a better boxer when he fought Mayweather even if he wasn’t at his more natural weight of 140, he won a belt in all 5 of his fights before that and people thought he was the man to finally shut Mayweather up, Hatton was at his peak when they fought.
Why do you think nobody was shouting for Hatton to retire after the Mayweather fight but they were after the Pacquiao fight?
Because Hatton was on his way out and he wasn’t as good as he once was, that’s why.
jack – Roach wasn’t so smart when he was in De La Hoya’s corner when Mayweather beat him at 154.
Mayweather beat a “better Ricky Hatton?” Mayweather beat a Ricky Hatton who was fighting 7 pounds over his natural weight division and it still took him more than half the distance. Pac fought him at his optimal weight and….. well we all know what happened there.
it interesting that Tim Bradley called it right on hatton DLH and cotto but now hes saying it not only mayweather but an easy fight wow
I think Pacquaio will nick it on points as Mayweather has struggled under constant pressure from De La Hoya, Castillo and even Hatton for five or six rounds. Quite like my house though so won’t be betting that on it!
Thank god! This is whative been saying the whole time. Pacs strength is his speed and flurrys mayweathers is speed defense and counters. What’s pac going to do when he faces an opponent (mayweather) who is just as fast if not faster whom he can’t hit?? Pac has fought no one on even close to the defensive skills as mayweather. Let’s also not forget thatwhen pac unloads he leaves himself wide open, why because he relies on his speed to distract his opponent and hit them so he doesn’t worry about getting hit. With maywweather however he won’t be able to rely on his speed and he certainly won’t connect even a fraction of his flurrys. Thus he will come forward attack, miss, and be wide open for mayweathers counters plus pin point accuracy. Pacs strength in his fights will be his weakness in the PBF fight.
Roach said the winner of mosley-mayweather will fight manny
opps.. that’s technically..
teachnically, pbf is more sound that pac. but i believe roach is too smart to let pacquiao go for pbf’s head. i think he will instruct pacquiao to dismantle first pbf’s shoulder roll, something like to dislocate it? everyone has tried to attack pbf on the head and all have failed. once as his shoulder roll goes haywire, his face would be open for pac’s haymaker..
Lmao why won’t guys give PBF his jus due? I understand he didnt finish JMM but he really needed the rounds plus JMM showed nothing but respect for PBF so there was no reason to kill the guy! With Pac…Roach does the thinking for him but Pac has a lil chip on his shoulder so its more pressure on him to stick to the game plan because we all know PBF sticks to his. I’ve always gave guys a punchers chance against Mayweather but thats about it…thats why everybody throws PWill’s name in the bunch! They want someone to have all the physical advantages against him so he can’t just out think and control everything! I got Money by UD against Shane, TKO against Pac, and UD against PWill! I think people will really appreciate his talent once he’s retired for good!!
I like Wayne Lords comment. It wont be the first time Pacquiao ha been the underdog. Look how he has taken people apart in the past.
If the fight does happen i believe Pacquaio will knock pbf down early then pbf will go mega defensive and lose on a descion
Jim Watt scores every fight wrong on Friday Night Fight Night, he’s a joke now… If Watt says Mayweather, think i’ll go with Sugar and say Pac-man haha!
sugar shane is going to send floyd to retirement, there will be no need for a rematch. manny will have no chance of fighting floyd, he will be shot and no good after may 1. sugar shane is the man, that right all you floyd nuthugger.
The face of PBF is the one that’s hard to hit. But the body isn’t. Once Pacman hits PBF’s body, his face is next. What can he do, do a holahoop dance to avoid being hit? And once PBF do that shoulder roll thing, Pacman will hit that shoulder at a right angle to dislocate it. Another thing, Pacman will just walk right through PBF’s punches because they are not really powerful. With PBF fighting Pacman, he will feel like the ring’s space is that of a phonebooth.
this fight isn’t going to happen because Mosley will wreck it.
Mosley will beat Mayweather and then he’ll fight Pacquiao.
Once Mayweather loses, his stock will plummet and he won’t be worthy of a fight with Pacquiao.
never mind mayweather , mannys got a HARD fight in front of him 1st !! lmfao
