Will Haye ever fight the Klitschko brothers?
By Chris Williams: The more I think about it the more I see World Boxing Association heavyweight champion David Haye never fighting either of the Klitschko brothers. Why should he? All Haye has to do is name drop one or both of the Klitschko brothers’ names and he gets a ton of attention almost as if he’s actually fighting them. Haye doesn’t need the Klitschko brothers to do well financially. He’s got a fight coming up next with his mandatory challenger John Ruiz, which Haye should win without too many problems.
However, Haye should be able to win that fight by moving continuously like he did last time out and not giving Valuev too many chances to corner him. Next, Haye would be looking at fighting Australian Kali Meehan or former WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev. Both of those fights should be winnable for Haye. I say ‘should’, because Meehan has good size, decent power and might blast Haye out if he attacks him hard at the start of the fight.
Chagaev is also dangerous. He had problems against 6’6” Wladimir Klitschko, but that was because Chagaev was giving away five to six inches in height to Wladimir. Against Haye, Chagaev would be essentially the same height as Haye and wouldn’t have problems taking his heavy shots. Chagaev has a great chin, and if he can weather an early storm by Haye, it’s reasonable to assume that he could land a hard enough shot to topple Haye over and knock him out.
Haye probably won’t stay in one place against him, and will likely adopt the same hit and run technique that he used in his fight with Valuev. Haye isn’t very light on his feet and looks kind of bulky and lethargic moving around, but he should be able to land enough pot shots against Chagaev to get a win. Once those guys are out of the way, the fights should get easier for Haye.
Haye can fight Kevin Johnson, who showed very little offense in losing to Vitali Klitschko recently or Russian Denis Boytsov, a fighter very similar to Chagaev in size and punching style. Haye can probably beat all these guys. This is why I think Haye won’t bother to fight the Klitschko brothers and will instead take the easy money by defending the WBA title for a number of years before retiring.
The more fights Haye wins, the more money he’ll make. He’ll be able to sell out huge stadiums in England where the fans will gladly scoop up tickets probably no matter who he fights. Haye doesn’t need the Klitschko brothers, and I think he’ll realize that soon enough and decide upon taking the easy route by avoiding the Klitschko brothers.

How did the Klitschko’s do against Valuev? Oh that’s right they didn’t fight him! I’ve seen paint dry and found it more interesting than recent klitschko fights.
Haye is here to clean up the division, not fight nobody’s ala Klitshko’s.
The Hayemaker is coming, and the US is going to love him.
It’s time to reignite this division!!!
Haye boxes for intrinsic reward, not for the money. He already has enough to live a wealthy life. He would never forgive himself for missing a fight with the 2 klithcko brothers, and when he fights i belive he has what it takes to defeat them.
haye will not face either klitschko guys!!!!!He will keep talking about them to get famous but will never face them.
Haye should spend less time trash talking and more time actually fighting in the ring – and not against light punching heavyweights. Haye has been talking smack about the K brothers yet again. Haye would not last against Solis, Povetkin, Arreola, Boytsov, Briggs and a few others also.
As for the K’s. If they land even one big punch on Haye, Haye will go down, be badly hurt and KO’d.
Thomas,I don’t know you ok?I’m a Christian by the way and if you have something in mind about me,then put on gloves and get into the ring with me.Hows that?
Tua Tua Tua Tua
I think ALLAHbless is a pusssy aye?
ALLAHbless, let me tell you this,no one can beat David Tua this time because he learns a lot from his mistakes,we all know about him hes a powerfull puncher with solid chin you know.
How about this,Fungi vs ALLAHbless?
Thanks Davey Boi.
Sam, whe are more on the same paige then I thought we where
I personally cannot see Haye having a re-match against Valuev- it was a slow tactical fight with little interest by the british public for a re-match.
I think Haye will run through the seasoned Ruiz, but will not opt for record filling fights like Johnson…
Haye is looking for big money ‘vegas’ fights with high appeal, there is no way he will not fight at least one Klitschko brother- he wants a legacy and that is the only way.
Rob lets see what happens after the Ruiz fight. It may be a case that both the brothers have mandatories and Haye takes another ‘tune up’ fight in the mean time. He may also be forced to rematch Valuev. He may lose to Ruiz and then none of this will matter!
My point is since stepping up from the cruisers Haye’s only had two fights so it’s pointless at this stage for people (like the author of this article) to question if he will ever fight the K brothers. Yeah you’re right he’s not the most active fighter but neither’s Floyd Mayweather.
I geniunely believe he wants to fight the K bros and he believes he can beat them. I think if he beats Ruiz he will then likely face Vitali at Wembley stadium in a mega bucks fight which will fix his retirement. If he loses then he retires. If he wins he then fights Wlad and win or lose that he retires. He’s already said he doesn’t want to be fighting into his thirties and even if (big if) he beats both brothers I don’t seeing him hanging round to clear out the division but he’ll still go down as a legend.
Fight fans I believe if haye fought chagaev, chagaev
although Waldimer beat him hayes is smaller and no jab and less ring wise than Waldimer.
Chagaev will beat haye by by dec. and will hurt him.
Ok Sam, point taken.
But what will you think about Haye if after his bout with Ruiz, he takes on Meehan or someone in his class of fighters instead of the K’s or one of the other big names?
And how about his activity… if you want to unify the belts he has to fight more often than this, don’t you think? The guy fights once a year right now… and troughout his whole career he hasn’t been to active, only his first year as a pro he had 8 fights, wich means he only had 16 bouts in the last 6 years!
I think he has to prove himself first, against a real strong (and big punching) heavyweight before I believe in this guy.
i think people on this site seriourly underertamate hayes power and chin.power-out of the 3 people haye hasnt kod,1-thompson-haye had thompson in alsort of trouble and 80% of refs would have stoped that fight and then hayes stamina let him dowm, the david haye of now, would have pased himself and kod thompson,2-abdoul-haye was coming of a hard fight against johanson and every 1 was questing his stamina and basicaly toyed with abdoul just to prove he could go the full 12 rounds.3-valuev-probabley the best chin in boxing just because of his shere size and haye had him badly hurt in the 12th,this alone should prove he has the power to stop anyone.chin-hayes chin isnt as bad a chin as most people think hes been down but never badly hurt and was abel to recover quick, calzaghie was also down a few times in his carear but because he recoverd quickly was know for having an iron chin,so doesnt this tell u that hayes chin isnt that bad if hes got up from his knockdowns and win his fight by ko after the knockdowns, apart from the thompson fight, but that wasnt down to having a bad chin that was down to stamina problems.
Rob the ‘ridiculous deal’ wasn’t just the double rematch clauses but also the cut of the purse and of the television money supposedly being offered. The Hayemaker took the clever option and won a world title, making more of a name of himself and putting him in a much better negiotiating position. That’s called good business. He will fight one of the brother’s and (win or lose) anyone who thinks he’s ducking them is going to look a bit silly. I’ll say it again Ruiz is a MANDATORY defense.
Funny how Vitali is the one making all the noise to fight Haye now and not Wlad. Maybe Wlad realises his chin can’t take Haye’s power so he’s getting his big brother to fight him instead? Also Haye would absolutely school the slow and overweight Arreola.
Chris Williams, how did you ever get a job working for boxing news. Haye has moved up into the heavyweight division to fight the best and unify the titles. To do that he has to fight and beat the klitchkos. He will easily plough through the well past it Ruiz then finaly get his chance to fight the big 2. he is too fast and too accurate for both of them. he is fast on his feet and providing he sticks to his gameplan he will not be caught off any of the klitckos big right hands and go on to a stoppage or possible late knockout. Once there beat he will have a couple of defences against the opposition you think he will go far after Ruiz. I would say 5 more fights then hel retire at 31 and done what he wanted, he should stay around longer and extend his legacy but only time will tell if he does. he is more talented then lennox lewis and he will show thta against vitali, as where lennox struggled. the klichkos wont be able to avoid a good hayemaker combination for the whole of 12 rounds, whereas Haye could avoid a slow klichko right hand.
Of course if Haye was a Yank, he would be painted as the lord himself on this site.
This blog site needs a few more brit writers
Chris Williams wot the hell are you on about? You seriously think Haye wants to avoid the Klitschko brothers, when his life-long dream has been to become the undisputed heavy weight champion? Why is it that Americans have to slag off British boxers all the time?
Why would he want to fight Kevin Johnson – surely the most pathetic heavy weight contender in history. David Haye has proved enough times that he is willing to take risks – why else would he vacate his championship belts to fight someone 7 stone heavier than him???? He is quite obviously the most exciting thing to happen to the heavyweight division in years and it’s about time people gave him the respect he deserves.
If Haye is to fight the Klitschkos he better do it soon cause he’s not gonna get any credit for fighting them when they’re too old and past it.
has half a chance against Wlad cause of the dodgy chin but Vitali would kill him.
Also think the likes of Solis and Arreola would beat Haye.
SAM; that ‘rediculous deal’ you’re talking about… is that the rematch clause? The same Haye signed against Valuev? Or the other brother clause who Haye said he wanted to fight so bad?!
If you say you want to clean out the HW division like Haye shouts to anyone who wants to or won’t hear it, at least he has to fight a) Wlad Klitschko, b) Vitali Klitschko, c) Nikolai Valuev (check), d) Alexander Povetkin, and e) Ruslan Chagaev. And in the meantime there’s the comback of Tua and the rise of Solis.
So he has to fight (a lot) more often and has a load of good fighters ahead of him.
At his current rate the Klitschko’s have retired long before Haye has 30 fights after his name, and I won’t be surprised if Kali Meehan actually is his next opponent when (or if) he disposes of Ruiz.
Also speaking of Tua, he knocked out Haye’s next opponent in 19 seconds.
Who cares if Tua was knocked out by Savon as a 18 year old amateur, that is nothing compared to what Tua the pro, who has never been knocked down, is like, hell just take a look at Tua in that fight compared to Tua as a pro and you will see all you need to see.
Also Tua if he stays in the shape he was in against Cameron will ruin Haye. Haye won’t phase his Samoan head, meanwhile eventually Tua’s hook will find him and it would be night night big mouth.
@ Graham, check Jordan Stoddarts stuff, good unbiased writing.
ty – Haye never avoided Adamek who was a no name when Haye was ruling the division. Haye would smash him badly at heavyweight.
ALLAHblessKLITSCHKO’s I disagree. How can you say Tua has a better chin than Valuev when giant man has never been floored? Chageav is nowhere near as fast Haye either and I see Haye knocking him out within 6 rounds.
If David Haye can make Valuev wobble the way he did with his left land imagine what he would do to chinny Wlad if he lays a big right on him.
Don’t really know why you’re talking about Carl Thompson either, that was ages ago, at a different weight and King David gassed himself out. You clearly have no idea how good Haye is.
time 7.05 am thursday jan 7 2010 david haye over johny ruizy
Considering he stepped up to the heavyweight to fight the klitschkos specifically says all you need to know. He’s never ducked no one and only pulled out of the Vitali fight because they were trying to mug him off with a ridiculous deal. Now he’s a champion he’s in a much better bargaining position.
Let him fight his MANDATORY against Ruiz first then we can start talking about unification.
haye can’t harm vitalty’s any hear. he just only beat vitaly when vitaly is 70 years old. he never think about the fight with both KL during next coming years. sorry for my english.
Haye avoided a bout with the brothers last year knowing full well that his chances of winning were close to zero. Instead he chose to fight Valuev were Haye showed that he can run but not fight. Without the lucky shot in the late round Haye would have even lost to Valuev.
Haye is for the most part just an illusion of a heavyweight with little real substance. His main weapon is his PR management creating practically a champion at heavyweight out of nothing.
Haye appearing in a ring with a Klitschko is unlikely it would mean Haye`s demise as a money maker and fighter.
at cruiserweight he would not fight an Adamek. Adamek would destroy him. He is smart and will not fight the klitschkos and be beaten. If he makes it past Ruiz.
*will defeat the pair of them
Can never understand the haters… Hate will fight the brothers and fingers crossed wi defeat the pari of them… Imagine how the Americans would react if haye holds all the heavyweight belts… Oh I pray for that day would be amazing!!! Haye has the potential and the power to achieve this..
No he will not. Maybe when Vitaly hits 40 and has more surgeries. Haye will have a hard time with old Ruis. I know he has fans, but they are the same fruits that worship a queen.
Completely agree with David Mason – very well said!
Haye was the challenger… how can he do the “ducking”???
Also dont understand why everyone thinks Haye is looking for the “easy” fights… he wants to become undisputed world champion by fighting the best.. what would he have to gain from a re-match with valuev or beating Johnson?
At cruiserweight he didnt duck anyone so why would he now?
Haye will fight them. He hasn’t ducked before and isn’t about to do again. I’m sure he is aware that he is the underdog and thats why he’ll fight Ruiz first rather than pay him to step aside; as the value of that fight increases on the back of this being the K2 Bros future opponent.
Remember armchair fans, he had quit the Cruiserweigh division until everyone asked him about unifying with Enzo Mac. He was again dismissed as an underdog and chinny and let the fight happen. Look what he did to Enzo. Possibly one of the best hitters in the division still. But he nullified that offence and showed up his defence. Thats something, coming against adversity. This man was UNDISPUTED Cruiserweight Champion. Thats a few too many belts to win by luck or coincidence. Embrace this guy, he’s British, a real Londoner (He’s F***in Millwall!) and he wants to be remembered. He’ll wanna make some dough too but if he says he’ll fight the K Bros, he WILL fight the K Bros.
Saddens me that on this site, there are few fans, more cynics AND its a shame that race it seems is such a factor behind support. Khan and Haye should be embraced, as we embraced Hatton despite his chin and flaws. I grew up on Eubank, Benn, Collins and Hamed. Get used to it guys, we produce multi-cultural boxers and in the gym, we spar with all colours/creeds. Sadly its the ones who don’t go, who spout the redneck/black power/jihadist bunkem.
Why can’t you ever see Haye taking on either Klitschko?
He’s shown more ambition in the short time he has been in the heavyweight division than the majority of the current heavyweights about. He’s now had three bouts up at the higher weight and he is already World Champion. Like Graham has said, Haye has an upcoming bout with Ruiz, then he is talking about going for a unification bout with either Klitschko, what more do you want?
I don’t understand this, you guys keep writing about Haye vs the Klitchkos when there is a fight coming up between Haye and Ruiz. This is unfair to everyone.
Most people come to this site for debate not news. Can’t you use your imagination and write something about John Ruiz? because what you have right now is irrelevant and not worth debating.
quick answer to all your problems, as you say “The more I think about it…” – well stop thinking.
Of course he will.
He wants the belts, all of them, and they are going his way.
vitail or waldimir klitscko over david haye
He has no chance of beating either and he knows it, its why he ducked both of them last summer
