The Mayweather-Pacquiao Fight is Still On!

By Kirk Jackson: I have been informed from a few reliable sources, the much anticipated mega boxing show down between Pound for Pound Kings Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. is still on.
It seems like there have been recent developments everyday, going into a range from drug testing disputes, to whatever else the two camps choose to disagree on, and deadlines to come to an agreement have been tossed everywhere.
The meeting for the final arrangements are to talk place this Sunday, with the fight still being scheduled for the tentative date of March 13 of this year. It looks like both sides will compromise and agree to a cut off period of 14 – 20 days for the random drug testing.
This will leave them with an opportunity to get off quick press tour before their historic show down in March.

Mark my words, every step that Fraud steps back. There will be a chorus of BOOOS heard around every venue that televises his fight. That is if he doesn’t retire AGAIN from the ridicule he’s facing about who he ‘cherry picks’ next to fight.
I could care less if he fights a featherweight or a heavyweight. All the paying public wants to see is if Fraud will ever fight the next legitimate contender in his division. Fraud’s gotta put his jealous attitude aside and not worry about Manny’s crazy 7 weight class ‘KIng’ status.

@USAF: The drug xylocaine is banned in Texas so Floyd can’t use it which means what? Mayweather’s punches will be even softer and Manny will walk right through them. Imagine xylocaine in Manny’s hands, Mayweather would need an ambulance standing by. By the way, NSAC does the testing in Naveda and has never tested Manny positve in ten fights there. USADA will do the testing in Texas then the will diffinately find xylocaine in Mayweather and since it is banned in Texas then Mayweather disqualified. Mayweather wanted Olympic style testing, but the “RANDOM TESTING” part didn’t come out until Texas was dropped.
Someone explain to me how you can call Floyd a runner when he has a 62% knockout rate and Manny’s is only 7% higher? The difference is Floyd chooses to not take unnecessary punishment, while Manny stands there getting his ear and face bashed in.

Another reason Fraud wants Nevada besides the fact that Xylocaine is legal there is so that he doesn’t get booed as bad when he runs away from Manny. I’m guessing that he’s trying to use the ‘Home Court’ advantage but is slowly losing that as well. People are sick and tired of Fraud and his antics. It’s old and tired. He should’ve been more smarter with his finances so he wouldn’t have had to come out of retirement. I truly feel sorry for Fraud. Whatever he claims that he doesn’t care about ‘Legacy’ because it doesn’t pay bills. I don’t buy it. When your money runs out a Legacy will be the only thing you’ll be remembered for as a boxer. Now how stupid does that sound that Mayweather requested random blood testing from the top anti doping agency’s in the country BUT hes scared to get tested in Texas? The same agency who will test him in Texas will test him in Vegas. THink you Pac nuthuggers are looking for something and cant see this is Arums attempt to take focus off the fact that Pac is the one scared to take the test in the first place.
Oh and Pac is not the challenger he is the current holder of the WBC diamond belt and WBO belt. Mayweather holds no titless at 147.

@USAF: you should read more. Arum went there, Mayweather’s team didn’t even bother to go because they know that Texas is one of the states that has banned the drug mayweather uses in his hands. Whose the doper now? That is why it was turned down. You forget mayweather is the challenger and since when did a challenger dictate a fight. Its come to light Manny will only fight Top Rank fighters. Everyone else wants some sort of legitimate testing. Good move by Arum, he gets a cut of both purses while not putting Manny in with top-notch competition. Its been reported before that Manny’s people wanted to know penalties for testing dirty and if it could be kept secret from the public and on other boxing sites, writers have said the reporter for NY Daily that broke this is credible and would never report anything like this without very reliable sources. Now, one of the most trusted men in boxing Teddy Atlas reports the same thing!

It has come to light today that Floyd Mayweather has used injectable pain killers such as Xylocaine in the past before fights. The irony being that this drug is illegal in nearly all states, with one notable exception, Nevada.
Perhaps the reason for Golden Boy and Mayweather not wanting to fight in Texas now becomes clear. Obviously if tested there, particularly with the extensive testing he was asking for, Mayweather would test positive for a banned substance. In Nevada, these drugs are legal, and presumably can be used for athletic competition without any legal or financial recourse.
After all the negotiating trouble and accusations about Manny Pacquiao and his supposed steroid use, it appears Mayweather is the one taking widely banned substances.
The reason for Floyd using these drugs is presumably due to the fact that his hands are rather brittle, and he has broken both several times in the past. With a numbing agent to stop his hands hurting he can throw punches more often and without fear of hurting himself as much.
Another question this throws up is whether these drugs are illegal in Olympic style testing. Presumably they will be detected in some form, although whether they are illegal or not surely rests with the Nevada State Athletic Commission rather than anything else. They are the ones after all who make up the lists of what is and isn’t allowed in athletic competition in the state. Olympic standards are different to these slightly, although anything extra testing found would surely be inadmissible against Floyd if the NSAC allowed it.
If nothing else, this news breaking again will further damage the already shaky reputation of Mayweather, who has seen his public opinion fall greatly with the drug testing debacle around his possible fight with Manny Pacquiao. whatever Floyd was trying to do there, and surely now it can’t have been that he really wanted the testing initially, it has now backfired severely.

Now obviously this article is old and was written by someone who doesn’t like Mayweather very much by the sounds of it. Im sick and tired of people saying that pbf is sxcared to fight Mosely when Mayweather offered Mosely a fight in 99 but Mosely was scard and moved up in weight to fight Oscar….2006, Mosley had just defeated Fernando Vargas and moved back in the top 10 Pound for Pound. And Mayweather offered Mosley a fight. Mosley decided at that time to turn the fight AGAIN to spend time with family….now Mosley is itching for a huge payday and wants to ‘man up’ and fight Mayweather but May doesnt need him now..

David Mason – I totally agree with your comment. Let the commission make the changes to have blood test 10 days before the fight world wide. There’s no more excuses. Pacquiao/Mayweather is just a matter of pride that fight fall a part.
MOSLEY/BERTO fight – Golden Boy Promotions should have random blood test for this fight because Mosley was caught using steroid before if they want to get a respect for their demand on Pacquiao. If they don’t want it then it’s too obvious it’s just a ploy of getting away of the fight.

The sticking point guys is that any more than 14 days is worthless for testing for EPO. As a boxer myself, I consistently try to be as light as possible, so wouldn’t go near steroids, but I understand the appeal EPO has.
It would be very interesting to see if Floyd retired. In terms of publicity and profile management that would be the only move he can make and save face on the basis of being involved in this mess.
For what its worth I doubt either boxer is to blame as its unlikely that Pacman or Floyd are involved in negotiations.
I myself would probably say I generally follow Floyd more, though I love to watch pacman, I just can’t learn technique from Pacman, so generally get drawn to watching PBF. However all talk of testing does mean any outcome will be tainted, with speculation of, Pacman not juicing for this fight etc. Which is grossly unfair for him etc
i would like to see the state testing bodies implement changes into their testing procedures now to prevent this drama happening again. It would be nice to see Nevada implement from now on, random blood testing up to 10 days before a fight and watch how many fighters compete in NYC or Atlantic City. If present testing does not catch the primary PED for boxing, then changes need to be brought in.
As for now, take testing out the equation and let both fighters prepare in whatever way they wish. This fight needs to happen to take boxing out of the mire
What more does Pacquiao want? Mayweather already accepted a 50-50 split of revenue even though Mayweather Jr. is clearly the bigger draw, Mayweather accepted the $10 million dollar fine for every pound Mayweather goes over the 147 pound limit at the weigh ins and Mayweather agreed to use the 8 ounce gloves that Pacquiao favors.
Just submit to the testing unless you are hiding something! Leaving $40 mil on the table to make possibly $12 mil against Joshua Cottley raises serious questions!
Pacquiao vs Clottey is more interesting fight that mayweather. Mayweather will just run and run. A boring fighter!!!
I think all this talk about blood is a big cover up. Manny agree to the requests that the mayweather camp are making, BUT in the event all tests are negative, SUE them for slander and whatever you can. this should be included in the agreement. He should have beed disqualified in the Judah bout because uncle Roger stepped into the ring. But since Richard Steele and Flyod Maweather are Vegas Buddies he wasn’t disqualified. By Mayweather electing to fight Paulie he will be a laughing stock. This fight won’t sell crap because niether are big draws. Floyd only gets high numbers because of the other boxer’s fan base. I.E Delahoya, Hatton and Marquez it was fans of those boxers that brought in PPV numbers. Delahoya could have fought a school yard girl and it would sell. Floyd Mayweather is the biggest cherry picker of all time, I would be surprise if he fight’s Mighty Mouse or Donald Duck next.

I truly feel this fights pre-hype fight is at its utmost peak and from here (if this on/off saga continues) you will truly see a drop of interest from fans about this situation…enough is enough we will all move on from this ridiculous drama…
and next time they think about making this fight (they say around september) they (promoters/fighters) need to understand that it will not be as this BIG because of the following factors:
A, Both or either lose in their march bouts (unlikely…but everything is possible)
B, Both or either don’t win impressively (as no one looks good against Clotty and fighting Paulie will be a bore).
C, Shane Mosely will be available if he wins and will be shouting them both out as realistically Mosely fighting either of them will be a better fight then them fighting each other
D, Each having the option of doing a super fight with Shane instead will make negotiations even more difficult if these immature demands persist…
E, Public will have lost some interest…always does…in all this hype…for example remember the Tiger Woods story a few wks ago? Do u even care now?

I think, as much as I hate to say it, that PBF will win this by SD. I’m a pacman fan and I believe it’ll be an SD because of the pressure and speed of paquiao but floyds speed, accuracy, amazing defence and counter punching could win it for him. Floyd also had underrated power. 25 stoppages from 40 wins. 15 have gone the distance, that’s only 3 more than pacman, u could argue that pacmans had more fights but floyds still got respectable power. Ian an honest to god pacman fan and I think that even if he loses this he should still be p4p king cos of his achievements, which are more than mayweather, but I can’t see him winning.

That doesn’t mean anything. There are several professional writers who would say otherwise (Larry Merchant for one). Floyd is great, no question, but that’s why this fight is a great fight. Manny, yes, still is an underdog despite what any other fans will tell you. However, in the sport today, he has the best chance of besting Floyd. As far as by how much is inconsequential. Nobody in the sport today has a chance against Floyd aside from MAYBE Mosely.
Bottom line this fight has to happen. Win or lose on either side its a fight I want to see, and I’m not alone on this. Don’t bring the glove size, ring size, and weight into the compromising process. All of these variables are official. Why would someone come in overweight? Why use pillows on your hands? And most of all why use a bigger ring? Bottom line Floyd is the one who should concede (again IMHO) and get this fight on.
Clottey isn’t done yet, save the sport Floyd!

The odds still favor Mayweather. Trainers favor Mayweather and now you will see blood testing across the board. This has brought attention to this subject which boxing has lacked on. To be honest,if this fight didnt happen on march 13,both fighters cannot get that amount of money anymore for one fight. this is what fans are waiting for. floyd cannot get pacman anymore because once pacman involved in the politics in the phils, many things will change rapidly for the Pacman. Floyd has to blamed. I think there is a lot of exiting fight for the Pacman. if one of both fighters lose in their future fight,…. too much money lose already. if they meet next time it is not exciting like this because one of them have been beaten.

Like alot of people, i feel robbed. Even if this fight actually does come thru, the MEANING of this fight got thrown out the window when blood testing became such a big issue. Neither fighter has ever come in dirty for a fight and there still hasn’t been any evidence to say otherwise. They should have just fought under NSAC regulations like it’s always been done. But, I digress.
To me, this fight was about proving who trully is the better fighter. And that was woefully ripped away. Now, I don’t really see how the buying public benefits from any of this. There are way too many built in excuses for this fight. And way too much to lose on one side to ever be a legit fight.
Scenario 1: They do the random tests and PBF wins.
While a great win for Floyd, MP fans would argue that he beat a weakened PACQUIAO. But, the absolute worst thing about this outcome? There are those that would use this as “proof” that MP was juicing for all his other fights. And as a result, taint all his accomplishments.
Scenario 2: They do the random tests, MP wins.
Floyd gets a “1″ in his loss column but Floyd and his fans would still say he went in there with a dirty fighter and MP found way around the tests (especially if the test they end up agreeing to is the modified version).
Scenario 3: They fight under NSAC regulations.
Manny wins: PBF claims roids. Discrediting MP win. he’ll get a re-match with tests, Or… he’ll just go insane obsessing over that “1″ in his loss column.
Floyd wins: Good god… can you imagine the gloating he’d do? Noone would ever get him or his father to shutup.EVER! No re-match. He’d probably retire for good and protect that “0″.
In closing, I don’t see any scenario where the fight is a “level playing field. Aside from the money, I don’t see a situation where Manny benefits. He will always have his doubters in any case. As for PBF, should come as no surprise, I don’t see him risking anything worthwhile. Sure, he’d get that “1″ in his loss column, but the built in excuse discredits any of that. what did you all think this whole testing issue was about? Leveling the playing field? Now that’s just being naive.

Not once have I said PBF was an overrated fighter, or anything less than spectacular. Not once have I claimed that Pacquiao would destroy PBF in the ring. Both are accredited P4P champs. My whole disposition in this ordeal is Mayweather’s stance on the blood testing. He put Pacquiao and the whole sport of boxing in a really bad position, then comes out and says he’ll “whoop his ass.”
Is PBF ducking, or afraid of getting a lost? Only he knows that. But all of the implications go to Floyd. He called Pac a one-dimensional, overrated fighter that lacks versatility, and it would be an “easy fight” for him. Now he back peddles. All I have to say is if he really wants to fight, pick up the pen, sign the paperwork, and let’s get it on.

I still hope this fight will happen. This is what the fans been waiting for, where else can Pacquio or Mayweather get all this money from? Who else are out there? In terms of p4p best, it’s either the Pacman or Mayweather. If it’s not meant to be and it will not happen, at least both fighters should fight an opponent worth fighting againts. Show me the article that supports what you’re saying. And if it is true, I’m sure Toney did it in his own accord. It doesn’t have to be the people around him that do it, it could be the fighter himself. If you look at my earlier post I’m not saying that he’s clean or unclean, but the facts say he’s innocent until you can prove otherwise.

As far as Ariza he has the same past as Manny. He was never found guilty of any unsportsman like conduct. He’s a trainer! Of course he’ll make Manny physically better, it’s his job. Proper diet, training and rest will make any athlete in ANY sport perform better. Raw talent is not learned however.
In boxing you can call out any fighter you want.
But you must first negotiate a contract that is agreed between them.
If they do the fight is ON.
I they don’t agree the fight is OFF.
With that said.
The more fight you have agreed to with top fighter then the more fight you have with top fighter.

No matter what Manny chooses the damage is going to be serious. As for EPO not doing anything in 10 days. No your right, it takes 14 days but yes it has a major effect on the body once the cycle reaches its efficiency point. Like most PEDs these are designer products created to make the difference.
My comment was to take testing of any kind away. This fight is a business deal and not a classified sanctioned/mandatory match up. Its one for the generation, so scrap the testing and let them do as they please. Within reason – no barbed wire on the gloves or cadmium wolverine claws.
The smartest move would be to have Pac and PBF fight each other than fighting others and risk losing, I’ve seen this before.

Actual it does. What EPO does is produces more red blood cells in your body. These red blood cells carry oxygen to the body. With this extra oxygen it gives the human body more energy. It IS official. 3 tests. After the announcement, 24 days prior to fight, and right after the fight. If using EPO for 7-10 days makes you a better athlete I suggest all athletes use it. This stuff is 1000x better than Gatorade.

As much as I’d like Mayweather-Pacquiao, I think Arum is determined to kill it, at least for March. He’s waiting on the arbitration to end GBP’s 20% financial stake in Pacquiao before revisiting the fight later so that when it happens Top Rank will be the sole promoter of Pacquiao.
