The decision to fight Clottey could backfire if Pacquiao gets damaged
By Jason Kim: One thing that Freddie Roach and Manny Pacquiao’s management may not have thought about is that their decision to take a fight against the tough Joshua Clottey could backfire on them if Pacquiao gets damaged in his fight against Clottey. Pacquiao could end up taking heavy punishment from Clottey, even if Manny wins the fight. It might be too high of a price for Pacquiao to pay in winning if he ends up getting hurt and it causing him problems in future fights.
No one beats him easily without Clottey landing a lot of punches to the head. And he has good power and speed, and he makes his opponents pay a heavy price for their wins. When you look at that and take into account how wide open Pacquiao is defensively because of his aggressive style of attacking, this fight could end up with Pacquiao taking an awful lot of punishment.
Pacquiao may not be the same fighter he was after the fight. This isn’t an over-matched super featherweight, lightweight or an old Oscar De La Hoya that Pacquiao is facing on March 13th. Clottey will be really bringing it and giving Pacquiao pure hell. It doesn’t matter that Pacquiao will be landing a lot of fast punches.
Clottey will still get too him plenty and will probably hit Pacquiao harder and more often than he’s been hit before in any of his other bouts. Pacquiao is coming off of a 12th round TKO over Miguel Cotto in November. Pacquiao got hit some in that fight, but really not all that much because Cotto was pretty much on his bike from the 5th round on and looking to just survive.
After Cotto got hurt early in the fight, he wasn’t standing and trading with Pacquiao like he normally does in his fights. Because of that, Pacquiao really didn’t get hit nearly as much as he would have if Cotto had stayed in one place and fired back consistently for 12 rounds. If that had been the case, Pacquiao would have taken a ton of punishment in the fight.
Well, Clottey will be able to take Pacquiao’s shots without being hurt and he clearly won’t run from him like Cotto did and he won’t fold early like Ricky Hatton. This is why Pacquiao will likely pay a huge price in beating Clottey. I still think Pacquiao will win, but this fight might take a lot out of him because Clottey is tough, durable and can punch.
Clottey likes when his fights turn into wars and he’s well suited for this kind of style of fighting. Pacquiao has been spared fighting bouts like this, because most of his opponents aren’t able to withstand his power and speed. Erik Morales, who beat Pacquiao by a 12 round decision in 2005, was one of the few who could. But that fight was fought at super featherweight.
Clottey is a lot bigger than Morales and he probably won’t back up an inch with the smaller Pacquiao coming after him. Again, I think Pacquiao will win this fight, but I think it’s going to be a heavy price because of the punishment he’s going to take in the fight. I think if Pacquiao does face Mayweather next, there may not be enough left of Pacquiao for it to be a competitive fight.

I agree with what the writer says. If Clottey would just let his hands go, he could hurt Pacquiao. If he just takes shots and continues to cover up he will lose a decision. He will not stop or get KO’d. His chin is too strong. The secret to Pacquiao is to let him come to you! He loves fighters that steamroll forward! He catches them that way. Let Manny come forward then catch him…
Honestly, I hope Clottey has a good showing and shocks the world. He deserves it! I bet he would take a drug test at anytime as well!
thanks wowz,
i was referring to comments made by golden boy promotor schaefer about the fighters that were available.
he (schaefer) stated that after pacman fight was void that floyd would be fighting on march 13 lex! at the mgm.
now mosley/berto fight was on for jan 30, pac and clottey were fighting the same night, who was floyd going to fight!…….
it was going to be hatton, malig, valero, cint….
i also stated that in no way would floyd go up against pac on march 13 but what do i no…
pacs a steroid user what other proof u want
iceman;
The only names people with Mayweather ever mentioned were Cintron and Mosley. In fact, it looked like Mayweather was going to sign to fight Mosley in June before Mosley fought Berto. Which would have caused some problems if Berto had fought and won. Mayweather was never going to fight Hatton or Maliganalli. Thats a joke. Reporters did a lot of speculating, but according to Ellerbe, Mayweather’s main advisor, Mosley was Floyd’s plan B the whole time. Reporters and people from Hatton’s camp suggested otherwise to get Hatton some press. Same with Alvarez in Mexico. Fighters want press and say they might be Floyd’s next opponent. Again, the only names ever mentioned by anyone with Floyd were Cintron and Mosley and it really looked like Mosley in June regardless of his outcome against Berto.
The sport of boxing is to inflict DAMAGE to your opponent.
Both fighters know whats in store for them when they step in the ring.
And if Pacquiao gets damaged… then his next fight will be delayed. So what? The boxing fans will wait.
people here seem to be pointing out that floyd is fighting a better opponent, when quite obviously he is.
however, floyd mosley (if it does happen and i hope it does) was only luck due to the hati disaster (when i say luck its not derogatory to what happened in hati, just that it sets up a better fight) or floyd was openly going to fight matthew hatton or malig…this is all fact!
now at the time who else was there for manny to fight? floyd negotiations failed, mosley betro was on. how do you no manny wouldnt have fought sugar? you dont!
ohh thats right manny ducked mosley for the guy that beat mosley and probably made a to a bigger ppv with cotto (mosley ppv numbers have never been something to go on about, cotto had a country behind him).
bottom line mayweather if this fight happens which I bet it will..will be fighting a much ahrder fight then pac…however nayweather wins and all the haters will make an excuse for his win
Mayweather is going to fight Mosley. Floyd haters go ahead and start making new excuses!
lex_fug listen to motownhitman. quit twisting my writing because you CANT read/comprehend.
mosley/mayweather is a rumor. even if its signed, i will wait until they are in the ring. mayweather has told the world everyone he wants/tries to fight, it happening is a different story. go back to all my posts and not once have i ever claimed clottey is better/greater than mosley.
seriously, is that you CONVICT FELON Sr., or do everyone in the mayweather wagon just lie. quit fabricating stories when you have nothing intelligent to say or add to the conversation. you may wanna go back to school, your associates degree isnt worth a damn.
ole skool;
Floyd is fighting the best while Manny isn’t. What don’t you comprehend? you know this and it just makes you mad that Floyd is fighting the best (again) while Manny isn’t (again) You just keepp repeating people can’t read because you don’t like the truth. There is no sense replying to you. You think Clottey is better than Mosley, alright, i get it. anyone who believes Mosley is better than Clottey can’t read!
Pac-man V. Floyd ends the same way as Leonard V. Mayweather. If you haven’t seen this fight you can look it up on youtube! They say history repeats itself and a fight between PBF and Pacman is just that. I’ve been following Mayweather since 1997 and I think he is one of the smartest fighters around. Still, I think Pac-man is just to fast, his movement is unpredictable, he won’t stay in one spot and he’ll give Floyd alot of different angles. Styles make fights!!!!!!!! Bottom Line!!!!!!! Because Floyd is a defensive fighter he will need time to think in order to see the openings. Problem is when your opponent is throwing 5,6,7 punch combinations you don’t get a chance think. By the time Mayweather looks up Pac-man won’t even be in the same spot. It will be hard for Mayweather to get his offense going, also when he does get in his shots in I don’t think he’ll have the power to puy Manny on the canvas! Putting Manny on the canvas is the only way he can win because he definitly won’t be out scoring PACMAN! Its just to much activity for Floyd. I say Manny has Floyds number!
Why is flyd a coward? Because he picks fights? A lot of fighter pick and choose their fights
Ali did it yet most will say he is the greatest. Bhop picked fights. Jones jr picked fights. yet most of them are regarded as the best of ourera
Picking a fight is not bad you have the option to choose who you fight. What’s funny is when mayweather was p4p champ no one magazines and fans haters ere saying anything…pac was still a up and coming fighter and mayweather was the best regarded as the best by everyone it wasn’t until he went into retiremen t and pac blew up that all of a sudden mayweather is crap he ducks people etc…tell me how you are regarded as p4p fighter if you have fought nobody…how? Its not possible mayweather didn’t just call himself p4p he waas named it by everyone and now when he comes back he isn’t and never was? That’s what makes me laugh hahah you pac fans seem to forget and so do mayweather haters but real boxing fans know you don’t get crowned p4pif you aren’t realy p4p
roadkill, you lex-fug and motownhitman keep proving me right that you can barely read, but definitely cant comprehend. read the thread between me and duel. like i keep on saying to y’all, go to the local library, get hooked on phonics, tell the librarian its on me. once you can read/comprehend, join in on the conversation.
win or loss atleast he didnt ducked any fighter!!!!!not a coward like somebody there!!!self proclaim best figther n the world.
The reason why Cotto didn’t trade after the 5th round is because he will be knockout if he did so.
dunno who said it 1st, but got it from wayne lord. still lmao
Alright, so PacMan will be fighting a bigger guy who’s pure muscle, a rock mountain. Only goes to show that PacMan has the guts to take risks, to put his title, life and limb on the line. If he gets hurt in this fight with Clottey, well…that’s a risk one faces in boxing. No more, no less. In the end, though, regardless of how the fight turns out – my respect for Pacquiao won’t change. I’m truly proud of him!
This is boxing, a violent sport. Anyone deciding to get in the ring risks getting damaged. people have died for this sport and fans. pacquiao is fighting bigger fighters and some experts think clottey will come in close to 160 fight night while Manny will be around 147. but thats what makes manny great, he has the skills and the power to take on this risk and challenge. if his recent accomplishments have shown, he is up to the task and barring a “lucky punch” that can change any fight, he will likely dominate the much bigger clottey. pbf may not understand this because fraud is a coward and takes exponentially less risks. thats the only thing that he is smart about, run all day, dont fight and mix it up, then claim to the best.
There will be no excuses for this fight..
Clotttey is a very dangerous fighter and highly nderrated id have to agree with the writer that pac is taking a huge risk. However mayweather some same is not fightng a top welter? He is fighting mosley most likely whom pac ducked nso who is the bigger man. Pac loses and so do his fans hahaha
Styles make fights, just because Cotto beat shane and Pacman beat Cotto, doesn’t mean that Pacman can beat Shane, styles make fights.
Clottey is by far the biggest guy (frame-wise) that pacman has ever fought, this guy probably walks around at around 170, I think he’s gonna K.O. pacquiao. Not a smart decision by Pacmans management.
@roadkill,
If Pacquiao fought Shane at 140 and then beats him afterwards detractors like you will say Shane got beat because he was wieght-drained. Also, Cotto was considered a more dangerous fighter than Shane because his bigger and stronger.
Anyone else read this and think it could have been shortened to 1 paragraph? I mean it could have been shortened to 1 paragraph.
He said it a different way a couple of times but could of been shortened to 1 paragraph.
All I’m saying is 1 paragraph was all this article needed.
…and who’d Pac fought instead? Wasn’t it Cotto…who BEAT Mosley?
shane’s a bad option for Pac at 140…but I hope they do fight at 147
Erratum:
I meant “He” (Sugar Ray Robinson) and not “Who” took all those challeges.
Great point david anderson. Also its not really just about who is the best or who will defeat whom. Its all subjective in any case. But, the more important questions are: (1) Did a fighter challenged himself beyond what’s expected of him? (2) Did he fight the best fighters out there? And (3) How did he perform once inside the ring?
Having a perfect record is not the be-all-end-all in determining if you’re the best. Sugar Ray Robinson did not have a perfect Win-Loss record but he is universally regarded as the best. Why? Because who took all those challenges. That made him great. Same with the likes of Ali, Hagler, Duran, and Leonard, to mention a few. Well, I hope I make some sense.
@ BNB
That’s how you define what great and warrior is, willing to tke risk.
@ trevez
So whats your point? CUz Pac fans doesn’t need to talk that much unlike your boy cuz for Pac fans, they just let the facts speak for itself. 7C’shps can say a lot, am i right?
@ the author
Since when did boxing does not inflict damage? Unless a fighter fight wit a low risk fighter, then it is of course expected you dont take as much damage as compared when you are fighting the best out there for the moment.
jazzy;
You couldn’t be more wrong. I think a Clottey at 100% would lose to Manny. Clottey has trouble making 147 anyway and has weighed over 147 for 11 of his fights. On top of that he hasn’t fought or trained for over 10 months. On top of that he fights in 1 1/2 months and hasn’t begun training yet. Clottey is going to Ghana today to try and resolve the issue with his trainers’ visa’s, as they aren’t allowed in the U.S. right now. A fighter that has trouble making 147, that hasn’t fought or trained in 10 months and has to fight one of the best p4p fighters in the world in just 1 1/2 months??? Are you serious??? Either Manny Knocks him out or wins a very lopsided decision. Setting up a huge showdown with the winner of Mayweather-Mosley!!!
ole skool;
You are right, Floyd hasn’t fought the best at 147. But on May 1 he is going to. And he might very well lose. And that’s why I want to watch it, because I don’t know who’s going to win.
I’ve always predicted right in boxing for the past 15 years. I don’t think I’ll be wrong on Pac vs Clottey. Guys if you really wanna make some money, this is the time. Clottey is definately winning. I eat ,sleep, and wake boxing and I am 110% percent sure. This is going to be a knockout. I havn’t got enough time to elaborate on this. This is a wrong cherry picking. Any response?
lex, fraud is no ali brotha, not in a million years. i know he likens his mouth to ali, but dont insult the champ on of the real greats of all time by comparing a chicken $hit like pbf to him. ali fought liston, norton, foreman, frazier. fraud will get KO’d soon enough. i know its painful but get yourself ready for what happens watch freddie/roger. pbf has been scared all this time because he knows its eventually happening to him
lex, keep proving me right that you cant read. i said if the fight happens and for pbf to prove me wrong. hes the one whos backed into a corner needing a good fight w/ someone legit. have you watched the freddie pendleton/roger highlight yet. thats what gonna happen to fraud if he fights a legit ww. he better stick to talking trash b/c he will be exposed soon enough
ole skool;
you sound a lot different than five minutes ago. Just five minutes ago you were certain Floyd wouldn’t fight Mosley. Just because he doesn’t trade shots and moves around the ring doesn’t mean he can’t beat the best. Ali also “moved like a butterfly”
if the fight happens, fraud will have his track shoes on. he will run all night, still a coward not wanting to mix it up. he will TRY to survive and steal a decision. chances are the pacquiao fight wont happen because Mosley will end it before the final bell
ole skool;
Floyd is going to fight Mosley on May 1. I understand you hate PBF, but you are going to have to find a new reason to bash him since he’s fighting the top welterweight in the world.

The writer claims: “Pacquiao really didn’t get hit nearly as much as he would have if Cotto had stayed in one place and fired back consistently for 12 rounds. If that had been the case, Pacquiao would have taken a ton of punishment in the fight”.
Pac would have taken a ton of punishment? What about Cotto? Cotto tried the ‘stay in one place & fire back strategy’ All that earned him was a couple trips to the canvas. Of course you can argue it wasn’t a 100% Cotto or he fought an ‘after plaster’ Cotto, but that’s the same Cotto Clottey fought.
In boxing anything can happen at any moment, one punch can change someone’s career. I like Clottey but he fights with one style, at one speed and that’s one reason he’s not at the elite level. I don’t see Clottey as a major threat to a 100% focused Pac, I’ve never seen him fight with a ‘Do or Die’ attitude.
Pac probably ties his shoes with a do or die attitude. Even if Pac comes in less than 100% or a little distracted he brings killer instinct to the ring.
Like a little Dempsey or Marciano; friendly as hell outside the ring, all hell breaks loose inside.
iceman;
As for the one point you brought up i didnt address in my last post.Mosley finally called out Mosley after 10 years when Mayweather beat JMM. Well, last I checked Mayweather’s next fight is going to be against……..the guy who called him out- Shane Mosley!
Manny will do the same to Clottey what he did to Cotto
I’ve always predicted right in boxing for the past 15 years. I don’t think I’ll be wrong on Pac vs Clottey. Guys if you really wanna make some money, this is the time. Clottey is definately winning. I eat ,sleep, and wake boxing and I am 110% percent sure. This is going to be a knockout. I havn’t got enough time to elaborate on this. This is a wrong cherry picking.
whats the use pacquiao will get away with his steroid use clottey is a top rank guy pacquiao will only fight top rank fighters now that his steroid use has been discoverd and every oponents will ask for strictly tesr not a stupid urine test wich dont include all steroids/stimulants.who is the other welterweight top rank has left margacheater HEY great fight.STEROIDS VS PLASTER exellent fight it will be titled the fight of CHEATERS/FRAUDS pacSteroid vs margacheater.exellent fight
lex,
just like shane called out floyd….
goes both ways pal!
its quite easy to say that now to lex but would you have, really..
anyway its pointless now isnt it.
you tend to stick to one arguement man thats why im pretty sick of arguing with you. im not saying your always wrong man cos you’ve made me think a couple of times, but just you state things like they are fact when they are just a biased opinion!
for example, you say the cotto fight with mosley was close, yes it was, and generally i would put mosley ahead of cotto to, but on the other hand you state without hesitation that jmm beat manny without any factual comments as to what rounds did what etc…
just jmm won, jmm won etc…
i do think if mosley ws in top rank that the deal would have been done instead of cotto (if cotto was with golden boy, say). thats just boxing, it su**s it thats the way it is.
you go on and on about mosley ducking floyd at lightweight, well your right, he did. but mosley was moving up to welterweight where he had big fights on the horizon, like oscar etc…
floyd was a dangerous fight at lightweight for him and really didnt make much sense at the time. remember floyd was just plain old floyd then! he wasnt pretty boy floyd money mayweather!
he had no real ppv claims until after the gatti fight.
however since they were both established welters superwelters the fight and more importanly the money from ppv was there, but floyd continued down a safer road.
lex i really dont have the time or energy to continue our battles as they are going nowhere fast! i mean just reread your list for the hall of fame man, come on! your wasting my time.
also i think you’ll find that if you look over our history its me being the more factual and “bringing more to the table” so to speak.
i leave many a comment for you lex but you fail to respond to alot of them! you pick and choose mate while i answer evryone!
so thats it lex, i respect your opinions as your an obvious boxing nut like me but as for our “sparring sessions”: thats it mate
Why didn’t we ever see a mosley vs trinidad
Iceman,
No, I wouldn’t be saying he ducked Cotto. Shane was regarded by basically everyone as the best welterweight. And Shane called him out. I’m pretty sure Cotto never did.
Everyone says Cotto beat Mosley. And yes Cotto did beat Mosley in a close fight. But that was the pre-plaster-of-paris incident. After that brutal beating, Cotto wasn’t the same. He’s still a good fighter, but no where near the fighter he was before that. Against clottey Cotto’s speed, stamina, reflexes, and chin weren’t on the same level as his previous fights. He still has the heart of a lion, but escpecially his speed and reflexes looked slower. Put Mosley in with Cotto again and see what happens. I guarantee Shane is at least a 2-1 favorite. Shane’s better. Thats why he was ranked better in every boxing site or magazine.
To be the best n stay on top u sometimes gotta know when to fight the best that’s why boxer have promoters!! U can’t just fight anyone that’s calls u out!! Look wat happen to vargas so young n fightin the best at their prime n where is he now!! He made money quic but career end short
theres alot of good comments comming from this article though its kind of refreshing, compared to the,
mannys on roids, or floyds a ducker etc..
ellco,
guys like you forget that pac prob got as good a split 70/30 against cotto as he would have against mosley!
and you no what? cotto beat mosley!
if manny fought m,osley you guys would be saying ‘yeah but he ducked cotto!”
manny is the no.1 draw in boxing and when he fought cotto had a country behind him.
mosley has never been a ppv king
@lex
Am glad the megafight didn’t happen let it wait a little longer cuz we know the loser will take a huge blow n maybe retire let’s enjoy both of them before they fight
if only Pacquiao waited 2 weeks, do you all think that a Mosley Pacquiao would have been made on late March or early April. That is a Super fight! Mosley will not run like floyd nor will Pac run fron Mosley. As a fight fan that is what i want to see. Instead this game doesn’t seem to be a battle of fighters but battle of promoters. Top Rank and Golden boy always seem to have problems negotiating. thats y Cotto vs. Pac was easier to make than Mosley vs. Pac. Let’s see if a Mosley Mayweather can be made if not then well that could be the end of the momentum that boxing had for a while.
Mario;
All right, I’m with you on that. If Manny takes the winner of Mayweather-Mosley after Clottey, then thats perfect. Hell, if he fights the winner, he can take another one or two easy tune-ups for a few mill. before the super-fight!
@lex
Am with u on that one I rather see pac vs bradley or even jmm again but after oscar hatton n cotto let pac have clottey!! Anywayz after clottey he will have to call out the winner of floyd vs mosley so let’s take this as a tune up lol!!
Mario;
No, people don’t know Bradley either. It would be a competitive fight though. Manny will walk through Clottey. I think Bradley would at least pose some challenges. Business wise it was a great move. Clottey is a decent fighter and a big welterweight. But he has no chance against Manny and Manny and his people know that. I want to see Manny fight someone that moves around the ring.
Is not been a year since clottey fought cotto but casual fans may not know who clottey is? Yet they bradley is a better choice?
Stop hating on Floyd
Bradley people don’t knwo clottey but they know bradley?
Mario;
I would like to see Manny take on Bradley. Williams would be good too, but the size is probably too much for Manny to consider, even though I think Manny might knock Williams out. Paul doesn’t use his height anf fight from the outside, instead he trades shots like Manny likes. And Williams is susceptible to get hit and his chin might be suspect, especially against someone with Manny’s power. Cintron would even be better. Or of course a rubber match with JMM. My question is why such a rush to get this fight signed? Mayweather and GBP were still trying to negotiate and Top Rank announced they were fighting Clottey. Clottey has trouble making 147 anyway, then on top of that he hasn’t fought or trained in 10 months, and has less than two months to train and make weight. Clottey has to go to Ghana tomorrow and try and resolve this issue with his trainers’ visa’s. It is almost February and a guy that hasn’t fought or trained in 10 months and has trouble getting down to 147, only has one and a half months to get ready for the biggest fight of his career! Why such a rush? Floyd wasn’t in a hurry just to sign an opponent so he could say he had an opponent, and now he’s going to fight the top welterweight in the world. It just seems that Top Rank wanted to sign a fight to get Mayweather out of the picture and in doing so, gave Manny a huge advantage in preparedness.
@motown
Good point but I think clottey has nuthin to lose n pretty much this is last chance!! He said he goin all out lol if he does it should be good!! N can ppl stop hatin on the undercard is not like we had a good cards for years why start hatin now
People people…the Floyd/Mosley fight up to this point is only hearsay as were the talks about other potential fights. Let’s just wait and see what happens.
As for Pac/Clottey, I understand that Mosley/Berto were alredy tied up and after having just beaten Cotto other than Floyd there are slim pickings at WW. Clottey however is really not that good, he is simply someone that is hard to look good against, just like Winky Wright. Neither have much power, aren’t flashy and are defensive yet not very fluid so they don’t fight with an entertaining rhythm, with that being said I don’t see it as a big fight.
Before pac fought cotto they said how will pac handle a true ww well we got to see huh lol
@ ellco
When mosley offer that cotto had already beat him!! So if pac fought mosley would be duckin cotto?
@iceman
True mosley n floyd is better cuz that’s the fight we been waitin for years but pac vs clottey is good!! Floyd will win ppv but pac will do his thing
but i do agree i would much preferred to watch mosley floyd than pac clottey.
what people are forgeting here is that up until the berto/mosley fight got called off floyd was going to face an opponant far less of a threat to him than clottey is to manny!
remember, he was going to fight malig, hatton etc… until mosley came up and really theres no reason for floyd not to fight mosley. far the way is the fight signed yet?
plus, are you guys saying that manny would have turned down shane if the oppotunity was reversed?
hhhmmm…
@paul
Why would he look stupid?
ahcaw
who did PBF fight that was hand picked and not a who wasn’t good.
If Mayweather fights Mosley, Pacman is going to look like an idiot.
@ ahcaw
Can you tell me who was hand picked. What fighter did PBF fight that wasn’t good.
floyd doesnt take risks.he handpicks only the guys he knows he can beat and avoids everyone else.
boxing is a risky business except for floyd.
theyre all going to make a fortune on the clottey fight.is pacquiao a delicate piece of china that should be stored away? should he declare that hes retiring after 1 more fight with mayweather because hes looking to cash out? give me a break pacquiao is making more for the clottey fight than most people will make in their lives
Article makes the point I was concerned about.
Clotty has a mean headbutt. He coils forward too much, dangerous situation.
Otherwise, no sweat Pac is deadly accurate.
Wat if pac came out n said he doesn’t care about belts or legacy anymore all he’s about is money now!!like floyd!! Wat would ppl say
that’s the narrow path manny is now taking. after destroying some of the top fighters, there are 2-3 more left and he can get accused of mismatches if he doesnt fight all or any of the 3, mosley, mayweather or paul williams. the first two are hardly can be made due to unprecedented demands and promotional issues, the other being a physical disadvantage. outside of the 3, margarito will be the next possible fight being with top rank. again, they will it’s a mismatch due to margarito’s inactivity for big fights… with road accusations, againts him, it is really hard to please everybody and it’s hard to be in pacquiao’s shoes nowadays…
fighters take risks, evcept for floyd and haye.
@lex
U rite but who else rite now is on pac level?? Who u would lie pac to fight expect for floyd n mosley
Clottey likes to train for four months for a big fight. Manny’s team knew this and signed up to fight in less than 2 months. And on top of that Clottey’s trainers were denied visas, so Clottey has no trainer right now!! Fighting Clottey won’t backfire, they aren’t giving him time to train properly and get ready for the fight, and now without anyone to train him, Clottey is just sacrificing his body for $1 million. Clottey isn’t a danger to someone of Manny’s level at 100%, yet alone an under-prepared.
@triump
Clottey dropped many times?
Did u see how fast clottey got up!!lol shut up man
Please post some kind of the danger factor for Pacquiao on this fight. In the mean time I’ll post some benefit for Pacquiao on this card.
1.) Clottey doesn’t even have a trainer, they cant get working visa’s here in the US.
2.) Clottey is a stand still fighter, a nonmoving targetw/ no game plan.
3.) Clottey’s chin is not that durable as they say, he’s been knocked down with just simple straight jabs. Many time.
4.) Clottey likes to cover up and doesn’t know how to counter, Pacquiao will tenderize this guy.
No matter wat tho floyd n pac will be among the greatest of this decade
Wtf
elloco, you fool makin such comments!its just show how ignorant you are.your name stands for you loco means fool.
Clottey n cotto fought less then a year ago but casual fans may not know who clottey is?? If they don’t know who clottey is then they don’t know who khan bradley campbell n all the super six are!!
who says there won’t be any tests? the boxing commission of texas will be doing their SOP testings. can’t believe these haters. LOL!
Manny had to arrange a fight with an opponet before running for office and couldn’t screw around. He took what was the only choice at the time “JC” the most dangerous WW fighter available. May and Pac will happen if May can get by Shane. May knows knows what’s up with Pac and if not, will find out in court. Then he’ll find out in the ring – if he can get beyond shane. At this point Bob A. is concerned about the money, pac has plenty, making more money outside of the ring. May on the other dosen’t need money and wants to keep his “0″.
hey BNB….i bet you have seen some of pacquiao’s fight. they’re very entertaining and exciting, huh?
all boxing fans, regardless who you’re rooting for, you guys should appreciate what’s manny’s doing. he give everything he has inside the ring.
Manny promise excitement in every fight,if thats what it is
then be it. Boxers should be ready to take some damages and thats part of the risk when performing with/and against the elite fighters.
hey trevez17….that’s what good a bout pacquiao.the willingness to take a dangerous opponent. you should be thankful to him. he always give all he has. can you name some that has the same ring attitude?
u listen to mayweather too often now you sound like him. this is boxing a contact sport. I would rather see ppl hit each other and try to knock each other out. Rather than dance the whole night long. and just try to out point each other.
Why do you think more ppl are now watching MMA.
DONT DOUBT PACQUIAO….. HE’LL TAKE THIS GUY JUST LIKE HE DID THOSE IN THE PAST AND LIKE HE WILL mayweather
See the thing with you Pac fans, you can’t have a reasonable discussion. Yes he’s going to beat Clottey but it’s a dangerous opponent for him if Clottey is on his A game.
This proves you Pactards know nothing about boxing, you can’t accept a discussion against Pacquiao at all, everyone has their favourite boxers but with Pac fans it’s as if theres no other fighter. Get a grip and get a knowledge of boxing you tards.
Funny thing. The fact is pac knows how to capitalize no matter how big or strong the opponent he faces. Bigger guys are easier to hit. Stronger guys tier easier. Pac never ranout of gas no matter who he fights. T
This one will just be another walk in the park for Pac. Sorry Clotty.. but that’s what exactly going to happen.
Pacquiao already established his legacy. Plus he’s rich, he was the 6th highest paid athlete in the world according to Forbes last year. If he goes out taking a beating for accepting challenges from dangerous opposition, so be it. The greats go out like that all the time. Unlike Fraud Mayrunner, Kentucky Floyd Chicken.
Floyd Mayweather Jr conveniently forgets his criminal past when he accuses others of illegal activities. But Floyd doesn’t have to look any further than his own family and his own past to see someone doing illegal activities. When Floyd accused Pacquiao of taking illegal substances, it got me thinking about how his past is littered with criminal actions.
* In 2002, Floyd Mayweather Jr pleaded guilty to 2 charges of misdemeanor domestic violence.
* In 2004, Mayweather received a 1 year suspended jail sentence, was ordered to seek counseling for “impulse control”, and fined a $1000 after being convicted for misdemeanor battery of 2 women in a Las Vegas nightclub.
* In 2004, a warrant for his arrest was issued in Grand Rapids, Michigan for failure to appear at a trial. He was accused of kicking a bouncer in the head at a bar. Mayweather pleaded no contest to misdemeanor assault and battery. He was fined and ordered to perform community service.
* In 2005, Floyd was found innocent in a trial for assaulting his girlfriend outside a Las Vegas club in 2003. The girlfriend, also the mother of his children, changed her story on the stand.
* In 2009, Police executed a search warrant on Floyd’s house because witnesses identified Mayweather’s car leaving the scene of a shooting at a Las Vegas skating rink. Witnesses also identified one of Mayweather’s associates as the shooter.
In my opinion, Mayweather Jr has no ground to stand on when it comes to questioning another man’s integrity. Mayweather has had several incidents of beating women, anger control problems, and other violent actions. This is the actions of man with no integrity.
Where does Mayweather get off thinking that he can accuse others of illegal activities when he should have been thrown into a prison like his father? Any man who beats a woman is nothing but a coward. From now on, reporters should just carry around Mayweather’s rap sheet whenever he goes off accusing Pacquiao of taking PEDs or complaining that other people are wronging him.
It’s clear to me that Mayweather’s criminal record far outweighs his questionable boxing record.
The writers suggest Pacman cherry pick his opponents. Pacman is a throwback fighter and fights the best available opponent. He challenges himself against the best competition. Pacmans last 3 fight all of his opponents where suppose to dominate the little man. This writer so wants to pick Clottey but he knows he’ll look like a fool. So he says instead Pacman will win but will be hurt by Clottey. Clottey is a defensive fighter with only 20 KO’s out of 39 fights. That’s barely over 50%. Clottey may tag Pacman but he won’t hurt Pacman. In the end the little man will dominated.
yes with any fight there r risks… wha the writter forgets to mention is manny has been in wars! haslost by being ko but he still overcame and this is why he is where he is at. top of the food chain!
Its a boxing match, with any fight theres a risk element or damage as you put it!! This article is bizarre i can only assume you are a bias moron.
Thanks.
BNB is soooooooooo lame….. bet on it… PBF will not fight Shane Mosley.. he will go to england for Matthew Hatton
manny picked the wrong cherry with clottey. he’s should have looked at the high guard and iron chin and looked for somebody else.
Risk will always be a factor if two great fighters meet in the ring. No cherry picking. Kudos to both Pacquiao and Clottey… can’t wait to see this fight.
If i was BNB’s shoes. i will suck on floyds pee pee.
people forget before shane fought de la hoya, mayweather had vigorously requested a fight with him, which led mosley to moving up in weight to fight de la hoya instead!
I wouldn’t worry to much about Manny and Mayweather never fighting.Pac will say yes to the blood testing but will also say the fight is in Dallas.We will see what excuse Mayweather can come up with then.Mayweather will also have to figure out what drug is legal in Dallas so he can inject his hands.
This is what Pacman likes…Clottey gets 1M Pacman gets 12M guaranteed… That’s a 92-8 split in favor of the Pacrroid..No wonder he won’t fight Floyd or take tests. he could fight bums and cheat and gets paid huge $$$$…It’s what is all about…
Pacman sure likes the American way for some things.. 92-8 split how fair is that…Clottey is a bum for taking this fight and the slave wages …Moreover Clottey won’t even have time to train properly …a sacrificial lamb is what he is…he sold his soul for 1M…that is wrong..
Jason Kim: don’t be thinking like Floyd. No risk no reward.
This fight is going to be decided early in the rounds.
Although clottey is stronger and bigger, can he keep up up to the 12th rounds…seem like in his fights after six he seem to lose steam just as like when he fought Cotto.
If he can do extensive damage in the first 5 to 6 rounds he may get Ko’d or TKO ‘d in the latter rounds…
Unless his got enough time to train and build up resistance up to 12th round his not going to win.
This i see is going to be brawl probably like the first round of Hearns and Hagler. if this happens who ever win I salute them. I wonder if ever this could be a possibility in the Mayweather-Mosley fight. How would it be in the first rounds…I think everyone agrees either a fan of PBF or pacman the first few rounds is going to be a collision of titans …. who can withstand the impact wins.
Good Luck to Both
Mr. Jason Kim, where have you been? Have you ever engaged in something risky in life? You probably employ the same tactics in life as Mayweather.
Like I said before, If am in Pac’s shoes, I wouldn’t want any part of Floyd either. Especially after having to pass Olympic style random blood tests. I mean if I know I cheat why take a chance and be exposed. What if Floyd makes him look like Arturo Gatti in there. How would Pacman explain that….?
Just a response on the article by Jason Kim about Manny taking heavy price is an under-statement. Don’t forget that this boxing business is about hurting each other. They both going to get hurt no matter what and that was this business is all about. And for Floyd, it is what it is about him. He’s not 100% sure about the fight against Manny that is why the negotiation falls apart so easy. Maybe, he is not quite ready to face him or could be that after a long lay-off, he feel that he needed more time to comeback. About Manny getting hurt is a part of why people watch this event, somebody will rise up to take his place one day that is why we cannot say he did’nt try.
If I was on Pac shoes and faced with the decision of fighting Floyd clean, I would either. What lose that “edge” and be in danger of being expose for a measly 50M.
I mean what if Floyd makes him look like Arturo Gatti..all the money in the world won’t repair that…his legacy dead…
maybe boxing is not your game!!!!!
Of course, Pacquaio’s handlers knew the risk. They are professionals with no illusions about the business they are in. Why do we always assume that the people who are involved in the sport are dumb and clueless? If you have seen any Freddie Roach interview, you will know right away that he’d been around the block a couple of times. Pacquiao has been in ths business around 15 years and knows fighters who had made serious sacrifices. As a matter of fact, he is heavily involved in raising money for a recent victim of the game.
Ummmm. This is Boxing. When they fight, they risk getting KO’d. This is their job. If they are a champion, they get up and fight again.
Damaged?….okay
Kim fyi everytime a fighter steps in the ring its dangerous. Thats why I give more respect fighters with losses such as Cotto, Mosley and Pacman. They are fighting the best fighter in there division not smaller fighters like Floyd picks. Even their losses look beter than Floyds easy wins against lesser opponents. Floyd does not want to be seen as a cherry picker so he almost forced to take this tough fight. Manny is respected more than Floyd because he takes fights that make fans like you say what was he thinking in picking that opponent. Manny knows to be the best ever you have to fight the best and thats what he does.
and a pacman is someone who will only fight a top rank fighter who want requir a test an who bob can bail out if he gets in any trouble either him or the judges
I cant see Pacman taking any more punishment off Clottey than he did off Cotto.
And its boxing you panzy what the hell you going on about damage for? If he was concerned about stuff like that in fights like that hed be better off taking up painting by numbers.
You do talk some bollox man.
since Pacquiao dont like a blood test thats good for clotey, clotey could take the same vitamin that pacquiao take and the add is even. Clotey will last a hundred round too, and he will not feel the pain.
Damaged Cotto would not have landed anything against Floyd. He would not have been able to get near Floyd…
Pac on the other hand took punches “to see how hard Cotto hits, to taste his power”, those are his own words….what an idiot..Why let somebody brake your eardrums..for fun..steroids anyone…
oh i can bet his life he want get damaged ole bob will c to tht im sure
noob
You sound like a ‘mayweather’. Pacquiao will fight the best and for now it’s Clottey. There is no shame in fighting the best even thought they can harm you. You sound like a mayweather. A mayweather is somebody who fights only those who do not have a chance or a small chance of beating you at your game. What has happened to boxing. It has become so political.
Cotto landed a couple of good shots. Look at Pac’s ear after the fight..I don’t think Pac is the same already. I think JMM and even damaged Cotto did some decent damage. I don’t think he has much left in the tank. After this fight he won’t be able to keep fighting good welters.
Floyd on the other hand hasn’t been cleanly hit that much lately. Castillo was the only one who did some damage..
That is the good thing about the Pacman. He does not cherry pick his opponent like this “fighter” I know. See you in Dallas Pacman!
There is no such thing as easy money. Pac taking the risk and he will do it. It could go also the other way if where to duck Clottey and his value will also nose dive. But that is the name of the game. Pacman is the peoples hero and he will just do it for fans.
