The Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders could accompany Pacquiao for promotional tour

By Eric Thomas: According to the Manila Bulletin, some of Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders could be accompanying World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao for his promotional tour in New York starting this Wednesday. Pacquiao will be facing former IBF welterweight champion Joshua Clottey on March 13th at the Dallas Cowboy stadium, in Arlington, Texas. With the amount of time wasted in Pacquiao’s failed negotiations with Floyd Mayweather Jr., they are getting off to a late start in building up excitement for his next fight.

However, it might not matter because Pacquiao’s name has been in the media on a daily basis for the past couple of months and boxing fans want to see his next fight no matter who he faces. Clottey, another Top Rank fighter like Pacquiao, isn’t well known among casual fans. Indeed, few of them will likely have heard his name before.

It likely won’t matter, though, because Pacquiao’s name alone will probably be all that matters for his fight with Clottey to be successful. Bob Arum, the Top Rank promoter, will get help from the Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in trying to sell out the stadium for the fight. The large stadium, which can fit 100,000, will be reconfigured to fit between 45,000 to 65,000 fans for the fight depending on how well ticket sales go for the bout.

As for the cheerleaders, they’ll be on hand to create a more exciting atmosphere during the promotional tour in New York. Arum is excited about the fight, which is called “The Event”, and thinks it will make history. It remains to be seen if that will actually be the case. It usually takes two good fighters for a fight to make history, and this fight at least on paper has the makings of a mismatch.

If Pacquiao dominates Clottey like many boxing fans think he will the fight will still make a lot of money it might not make history. Pacquiao needs a huge name like Mayweather, his original planned opponent, or someone like Paul Williams for him to truly make history.

David diaz, odl, hitman, cotto, clottey…I think clottey has the best chance at derailing the pacman…if pac is smart, he should have a rematch clause in case he looses…

  • KALEL says:

This Clotty fight is too risky and may be a bad move for Pac Man. Clotty is no joke and he may KO Pac Man which means the Mega fight would definatly be off. This fight makes no sense what so ever.

  • mario says:

I just hope its a great fight

  • Travis says:

Hold on…Clottey is not that easy. Pacquiao will be in trouble.

  • Scott UK says:

Pac-Floyd is still questionable this 2010… I will spend now before I miss entirely so Dallas here we come.

Wish i could be there to cheer clottey on. Anyone who thinks Clottey is getting knocked out is mistaken.

Are the two fights on at the same time or can we watch both one after the other? If it comes to a choice il be watching the pac vs clottey fight on tv

  • Behkool says:

everytime clottey lost the fight he said “i was rob again”, i hope pacquaio knock him out or else he ganna come up again with excuses..
Good opponent for pacquiao, because most people say that clottey won the last time he fought with cotto.. if pacman win against clottey, that will close the doubt.. but if clottey win, he might be the true champs in 147lbs since he face cotto..

  • goodgrief says:

the numbers will be their in ppv, how much would attend that is the question, but in arum saying that that bush owner saying the new staduim has sold better than expected, in ever event so far is big words, that saying people loves that brand new staduim for anything, that about 20,thousand are free bees.and arum was smart in adding a lot of mexicans fighters, manny keep adding fans, even from rickys fan base,I see this event as expected or better than expected.if that true floyd not require, just mosley,

I just want to see a fight. Let’s get ready to rummmmmbleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

  • tomer says:

mayweather ducked pacquiao. too bad. but was anyone really suprised by this. mayweather has a history of cherry picking fighters.

  • TheRealOne says:

If this was an article about Mayweather fighting Clottey it WOULDN”T say:
“”Indeed, few of them will likely have heard his name before.
It likely won’t matter, though, because Pacquiao’s name alone will probably be all that matters for his fight with Clottey to be successful.”"

    It WOULD say:
“Most fans have not hear of Clottey before, confounding the belief that the unbeaten Mayweather only remains so from strategically picking opponents who will ensure a “classy” win for the cherry picking welterweight”

Biased. Pac jumped straight into this fight so he wouldn’t have to continue talks with May a.k.a he’s running scared.

  • Perry pc says:

This is going to be a great fight and it is going to be a full house especially if they invite Charice Pempengco to sing the Philippine or the American National Anthem. Charice Pempengco has a lot of worldwide fans who want to watch her and Manny Pacquiao.

    See Charice or Charicemania website.

  • Rick Suaree says:

Awesome and clean fighter and a humble man.

  • yomoma says:

The dude already down in boxing history for 7 weight class champs. Amazing achievement.
