Schaefer to begin working on Mayweather-Mosley Super fight

By William Mackay: With the sudden cancellation of the January 30th bout between Andre Berto and Shane Mosley, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer says he’s going to start working on putting together a super fight between Mosley and Floyd Mayweather Jr., according to ESPN writer Dan Rafael. Schaefer says “That is a super fight, and is now my next order of business – to see if we can put together [Mayweather-Mosley]. The sooner the better if we can get this potential fight done. With Shane being available and Floyd being available, that’s a fight all fight fans and sports fans would embrace.”
Berto reportedly lost family members in the recent Haiti earthquake, and he’s naturally upset about it to the point where the events have made it hard for him to train properly for his January 30th fight with Mosley. Rather than take the fight with Mosley and perhaps not be at his best, Berto decided to cancel the fight earlier today. However, the cancellation may result in a huge opportunity for the 32-year-old Mayweather, who is in need of a big named opponent for his next fight.
Although Mosley would be a huge test for Mayweather given his talent and experience, it’s easily the best fight that Mayweather can make aside from fighting Paul Williams who isn’t as well known as Mosley. It will be a dangerous fight for Mayweather, because he hasn’t taken on a legitimate welterweight since 2006 when he faced Carlos Baldomir. Mayweather in recent years hasn’t stepped up to the table for fights against top welterweights like Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito, Mosley and Paul Williams.
This would be a big challenge for Mayweather if he decides to take it. Many boxing fans feel that Mayweather is afraid to fight opponents his own size and only wants to fight smaller fighters like Juan Manuel Marquez, Ricky Hatton and Manny Pacquiao. Mosley is just a little taller than the 5’8” Mayweather at 5’9”, and has a two inch reach advantage over him. This would be a fight where Mayweather would be facing an opponent with hand speed that is close to his own and who has better power in both hands.
Mosley likes to put his punches together rather than throw pot shots like Mayweather. This would be a fight that Mayweather very well could lose unless he works hard and lets his hands go. He won’t be able to pot shot his way to a victory like he’s done recently against smaller, slower Hatton and Marquez. Mosley is bigger, faster and stronger than those guys and will be putting pressure on Mayweather constantly.
This fight will be huge if Golden Boy can put it together. It won’t obviously make as much money as a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, but it should do very well if they do a good job marketing it to the boxing public. Mosley may even be a better match for Mayweather than Pacquiao would have been. Mosley is bigger and seems to have the style that could cause problems for Mayweather.

Why May 1 and not March 13??? Mayweather came out on top in the failed negotiations with Pacquiao so why not come out on top again in ppv by going head to head!
Of course The PacMan fights for money! And aside from his own benefits, he is using it to feed thousands of his countrymen, rebuilding schools for the poor public, offering scholarships to poor students, putting up hospitals, putting up businesses so that his countrymen don’t have to go overseas to work and leave their families, and rebuilding infrastructures mostly in his province. The truth is he is fighting not only for himself but for his countrymen! This is an athlete that every kids should look up to and learn..a good example.
of course Pacquiao fights for money, the only difference between him and Floyd Jr. is that he gives your moneys worth in each of his fights unlike Floyd JR. most of his fights are boring no excitement whatsoever.

First of all, FMJ doesn’t want to fight Mosley because he has many reasons such as Mosley is a steroid user, not a PPV attraction, can’t get credit because he is old, he got beaten by Cotto, Mosley didn’t respect him last time and too many problems..blah…blah….He claimed Mosley turned down his offer to fight him before so now it is his turn to refuse to fight Mosley.

thats what i believe to. there is a way to do business and way to be business. if floyd had just come out and said that he will only fight with olympic style blood testing cos hes worried about a level playing field etc… thats cool.but he didnt, floyd snr, roger, oscar etc… all came out and accussed pacquiao for steriod use on the basis that he destroyed oscar, hatton and then cotto, simple as that. they couldnt believe it and were worried.

The difference is Cotto pre-plaster of paris and after. Cotto’s reflexes, speed, chin, and stamina all looked worse against Clottey. In simpler terms, the Margarito plaster made Cotto into a shot fighter. Still good, but no where near the fighter he was before. And by the bye, Clottey lost to Baldomir.

However everything is on the table now, if he fights mosley a lot of the critics will shut up (or they’ll continue preaching they just will have no credible argument anymore). There are plenty of true fight fans who arent floyd fans but will give credit where credit is due. if he doesnt fight mosley now when everything looks to be perfectly set up then it proves that the critics who’ve called him a chicken and a ducker will have been 100% correct all along.

This is a tougher fight than Pac is for Mayweather. With Pac’s size disadvantage it will be easier for Floyd to stay away from him. This is the fight I want to see.
