Schaefer: Mayweather to name opponent in the next two or three days – News

By Jim Dower: Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer says that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is within two or three days of announcing his next opponent. Schaefer says that it will be a big fight, although he doesn’t say who the opponent will be. Former lightweight champion Nate Campbell, former International Boxing Federation light welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi and Kermit Cintron have been three names that have been mentioned as potential opponent for Mayweather.

It’s unclear whether Mayweather will be fighting one of those opponents. If so, the fight might not be as big as Schaefer thinks it will be, because those fighters aren’t big stars and Mayweather would dwarf them with his fame. It would be a case of Mayweather facing a fighter much less known and arguably way over-matched. Cintron would be the best of that bunch, only because of his power and size.

However, Cintron was destroyed in 2008 by Antonio Margarito in a 6th round stoppage, and he also had huge problems against Sergio Martinez last year in a fight in which Cintron was dropped by a left hand from Martinez and argued successfully after that it was caused by a head butt.

Instant replays showed that Cintron was knocked down by a left hand from Martinez. Cintron was able to salvage a 12 round majority draw in the fight, but many boxing fans felt that Cintron should have been counted out after the knockdown. Cintron isn’t on anyone’s pound-for-pound top 10 list and hasn’t looked good all that good in recent years.

Campbell and Malignaggi aren’t interesting options because of their small size. Boxing fans want to see Mayweather against someone in his own weight class or slightly bigger. Campbell only recently moved up from lightweight late last year, and didn’t impress in his fight against Timothy Bradley. Malignaggi has lost two out of his last four fights and would have no chance against Mayweather.

The opponent that boxing fans want to see Mayweather fight is former welterweight champion Paul Williams. That would be a dream fight for boxing fans. However, few people believe that Mayweather will opt to fight a dangerous fighter like the 6’1” Williams, because he might even be tougher match for Mayweather than the 5’6” Manny Pacquiao because of Williams’ size and his nonstop punching style.

Fans were also hoping that Mayweather would fight the winner of the January 30th bout between welterweight champions Andre Berto and Shane Mosley. However, with Mayweather set to make an announcement of his next opponent in the next two to three days, it would seem highly unlikely that Mayweather will be picking either of those guys to fight.

If Mayweather wants to compete with the Pacquiao vs. Clottey fight, which takes place on the same night (March 13th) that Mayweather is fighting, he’s going to have to fight someone really good and not just another small fighter. Mayweather has beaten Ricky Hatton and Juan Manuel Marquez in his last two fights, and both of them were pooled from the lower weight classes.

GBP’s partner in Mexico is pushing Alvarez. Good move to get his name out there. I don’t see Floyd fighting Alvarez though. He could beat Alvarez on March 13 before beating Mosley on May 1, but I don’t see it. It would be much like a fight with Manny- a televised sparring session for Floyd.

  • papolito says:

News Mayweather is fighting Saul Alvarez
    WW champion in march 13.
    Yes . who?
That the big fight GBP have for HBO .
    Just waiting for HBO ok.

  • fatal18 says:

Paul will knock Rainbow Rider Mayweather out of his “I’m the greatest” delusional state.

Rainbow Rider Mayweather want to fight Momo Koseki of Japan (9-2-0 / 2KO). Floyd will market her as the best competitive FEMALE jr. strawweight (102 lbs) fighter.

Floyd, is about the lace up… well inject xylocaine first then lace up, and face the Koseki the #1 female jr. strawweight to retain his “0″ and continue his quest as the rainbow rider of boxing.

  • mrskew says:

I dont believe Maywether will gert into the ring with any of the top contenders, and if he is ever forced to take on a boxer of equal or greater talent, I wonder, will he pull the same stunt and demand RANDOM TESTING AT SPECIFIC INTERVALS BEFORE THAT MATCH??????? This guy needs to be made an example of, and left on the sidelines to repent for his blunders, and consider his position relative to the people that pay his rather rediculously high wages, THE BOXING FANS!
    MR SKEW.

  • cal says:

where is this article that he is fighting number 3 p4p? show me the proof!

  • lex_fugitive says:

Mayweather taking on the #3 p4p while Manny is taking on the #7 welterweight. My only question is will KFC or Lee’s win the rights to Manny? You never know Popeye’s could come out of nowhere!

  • cal says:

so that supposed email says that that he will call out mosley b4 the berto fite…. ya and there is a supposed email that says manny is usind peds or bla bla bla!!!!
maylocaine will not fight any top10 welter or a top 15 jr welter at jr welter. maylocaine is a joke. shoot even HBO islaughing in his face saying they will not! will not! PPV his fight unless its a top welter! it wont be paul the punisher williams! if u havent seen paul fite look him up! hes a puncher in bunches! with a near foot length in reach advantage! and maylocaine is a defensive specialist counterer. ya that will put his “0″ at risk. his plan is to bring up a jr welter to 147 maybe bradley or a top lightweight to 140. and maylocaine fans will be like oh it was a hard opponent bs. fite cotto hows tha for taking other fighters scraps. oh lets see maylocaine put the beating on him that manny did. wait wasnt cotto a different fighter after the margarito fight

  • ares says:

@ wowzabean he is actually going to sign b4 he fights berto, so its imposssible to know who will win with the Berto fight so ur argument is viod. But like all Pactards you will find some lame excuse for Floyd dismantling another opponent.

  • ares says:

James Halkim, I dont know where you heard that but the latest mail is:Floyd to fight Mosley on May 1st.

  • James Halkim says:

It’s been announced, Mayweather is fighting Williams!!

See I told you he was gonna fight him, this will be one hell of a fight!

  • cal says:

the top welters consist of sugar shane, pacman, maylocaine, cotto and clottey. so u tel me if floyd is gonna fite cotto. manny is gonna sweep the devision. then fite the winner of mosley berto. for a huge maga welter showdown. and he will have the negotiation power cuz he will be forced to fight the next best welter who will probably be berto. no shot for maylocaine cuz his level of competition is not there. hell even lose p4p rankins maybe slot 5, and thats being nice

  • cal says:

maylocaine wll not fite mosley! mosley is the top welter! he will not fite mosley till mosley turns 45. malocaine wont fite atop 10 welter let alone a top 5 and HBO wont ppv his fite unless he fights a top 10. his next fightwill b against another lightweight that he brings to 147. wimp

  • lex_fugitive says:

    Wowza,
Mayweather-Mosley on May 1 will be announced this week. Before the Berto fight. The only thing this Berto fight will determine is some more PPV buys if Mosley wins and a few less if Berto wins.

  • lex_fugitive says:

I can already see this forum on May 2. Oh, but Mosley is an old man. Maybe so, but he’s still regarded a lot more highly than Clottey. Everyone will come up with a reason why Mosley isn’t good enough and that Floyd just cherry-picked. Just like with Hatton. He was the biggest name, the most touted, guy Floyd could have fought but since dismantling him, Hatton is suddenly another cherry-picked opponent. Manny walked away to fight Clottey and Mayweather kept trying to get a fight with Manny, but since Manny refused Floyd is going after the next best.

  • VINCE VEGAS says:

Whoever the ‘TBA’ is they better announce it soon. At this point there is almost no time for the ‘TBA’ to train & surely not much time to promote a fight with
    Mr. Anonomous ‘TBA’.

Maybe he’s fighting the Invisible Man?

  • lex_fugitive says:

    wowza,
So Mosley isn’t a top 10 WW??? If you look at floyd’s past opponents they have been big names, big fights. Just because Manny walked away to fight Clottey didn’t change Floyd. Floyd is still fighting top guys with big names. People that aren’t boxing fans know the name Shane Mosley. I mean Floyd beat Baldomir with one hand while Baldomir beat Clottey. Manny should really stop cherry-picking opponents and take on the top guys like Floyd is doing. Oh wait, Manny might take a fight with Mosley if he looks bad enough against Mayweather. LMAO.

  • jujuhound says:

    Lex,

Pacquiao has NEVER fought above 150. In his life. Ever. He had to go up a little less than 10 lbs for the weigh-in. One gains weight, one loses weight to meet in the middle. Fair enough, if you ask me.

  • Dylan says:

I think Li’l Floyds next opponent would be Jorge Arce. As Schafer said, it will be a “BIG” fight,, for Li’l Floyd. There will be no catchweight so the other opponent won’t be drained. On fight night, Jorge Arce at 115 and Li’l Floyd at 154…LOL

  • lex_fugitive says:

    Wowza,
Yes Oscar and Hatton were Floyd’s scraps. Manny is getting the sloppy seconds of Floyd. And Manny fought Oscar at 147 when Oscar hadn’t fought below 154 for EIGHT years. Get over it, Manny has been scavenging the remains of Floyd’s victims. And one victim of plaster. Manny’s new opponent couldn’t get past Baldomir. You know the fighter that Floyd beat with literally one hand.

  • Lou says:

I bet it’s Peter Pan who gets announce as his opponent

  • jason says:

Val If Floyd is a hackhacker or whatever the F than what does that make Pac who got famous for fighting Flopyd’s victims?

  • VAL says:

    I meant Hatton at 147

  • VAL says:

6 loss Baldo is was a hack.

The Oscar fight was a HACK of a fight (but credit to Floyd for moving up),

    Hatton at 174 was/is a hack.

JMM up to 140-42 was a hack.

Floyd Mayweather is the official HACKHACKER!

  • Fraud says:

    Wrong, Jason…

Marquez turned down Pac also because he wouldnt submit to blood tests. Clottey was willing to forego the blood in order to get paid. Bad match….

Mayweather was the obvious match but they obviously didnt want any part of that.

Ultimately the truth will prevail and if Mayweather’s next opponent submits blood, the winner of Berto/Mosley submits blood, and assuming Mayweather wins his next two fights, and Pacman still continues to duck him and fight hacks then we all know whats up?

Assuming Mayweather takes on Mosley/Berto firsts and wins….who is left for Manny to fight?

  • jason says:

Iceman You forget to mention that Floyd comes in at his comfortable fighting weight no matter what the weigh in happens to be on a given night (152-154 at the most) Pac’s comfortable fighting weight is 150 and will most likely be at 152 against Clottey, 154 at most. Yet Pac wanted his opponents shared with Mayweather to come in “drained”. Mayweather fought Delahoya at 154 and Delahoya was easily 160 on fight night= not drained. Comprende. Pac could have chosen to fight Marquez again…but Clottey is a very difficult fight for anybody. He beat Cotto anyway. Floyd has to fight somebody good to top Pac/Clottey. Margaritto is not licensed to fight in Vegas so it ain’t him.

  • Fraud says:

No way they both fight on the 13th. HBO isnt going to pick sides. Floyd is going to take on the winner of the SSM/Berto fight or one of the names mentioned previously. But it will be a big name, imo. Floyd has no choice but to fight big names if he intends to take back his P4P and PPV Crown from Manny. Floyd retiring allowed Manny the opportunity to fight big names like ODL, Hatton, and Cotto…and imo, batter them while he was on roids, so now everyone is on his jock.

Floyd needs to fight Williams or someone with a name that is also well respected, then the winner of SSM/Berto…and upon winning, Pacquiao will have no choice but to fight Floyd or to retire because Floyd would have won back the P4P crown and the PPV crown by doing exactly what I just said.

In the meantime, Pac will be fighting hacks simply looking for a payday and his PPV and rep will take a huge hit in the process.

    Watch!

  • Anonymous says:

has anyone realised that cotto could actually still be unbeaten.

say marg’s gloves were loaded which they appeared to be, and pacquiao is a drug cheat, which it would appear he is (take the f**ken test, simple) then cotto’s 2 losses should actuaaly be no contests!

  • iceman says:

    olly-waterloo,

point taken mate. and if thats true then it shows how disgraceful and pathetic boxing commissions truley are.

  • Olly-Waterloo says:

    @iceman

not that im takin sidesd here, but after seeing hundredes of boxing fights and seeing cottos face after margarito.. and also cotto admitting that NO-body from his team went to margaritos sheds to check the wrapping

also examing the change in both fighters around the middle of round 10 – 11

IMO i truly believe margarito’s gloves were loaded for that fight as well..
ive looked at previous fights with margarito but have yet to find anything as astonishing as the way cottos face looked that night it was like had been hit with no a padded brick.

ALSO the comminsion check HOW the wraps were done to restrain personal injury NAZIM from mosleys corner was the one who spotted the wraps, the comminsion was goin to pass them! :S

  • iceman says:

    and lex,

i totally disagree with the comments you layed on for james.

if floyd fights williams and wins or loses i will give the guy credit, why, because he will be challenging himself! all us guys that get on floyds case will be impressed!

man, stop going on about baldomir! the guy was just a journeyman champ with about 6 losses on his record when floyd fought him.

when floyd fought hatton he brought him up to 147 when hatton was the champ and rated at 140!

but when manny fights de la hoya at 147 its a disgrace (when no one gave manny a chance!).

when manny brings cotto down 1 pound from his last fight against clottey its also a disgrace?? give me a break!

you compare marquez’s and manny’s wars at featherweight to that farce we had to witness for jmm looking like a mexican santa claws for a fight at 144 for which jmm could only get to 142 and floyd still came in overweight at 146!

note that manny’s the one that gets labelled the catchweight king, when how many fights has he had at catchweight? 1 cotto!

how many has floyd had 1 marquez! again go figure!

then you go on trying to defend the fight between floyd and marquez saying, wait for it…. “but manny moved up with no problem”!!!!

hahahaha thats because manny is f**ken better you idiot!!!

  • Anmikkim says:

WHY NOT CHOOSE AMIR KHAN TO FIGHT MAYWEATHER. AMIR IS ALREADY A PART OF GBP. LET THE BOY PUT A LITTLE WEIGHT AND HAVE HIM FIGHT MAYWEATHER. REMEMBER KHAN SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE SPARRING PARTNER OF PACQUIAO FOR THE MAYWEATHER-PACQUIAO FIGHT. AND SINCE THIS WILL BE A TUNE UP FIGHT OF MAYWEATHER FOR A FUTURE MATCH WITH PACQUIAO LET HIM SPAR WITH KHAN IN A TRUE FIGHT. THEN ASK ROACH TO TRAIN AMIR SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH PACQUIAO.

  • iceman says:

    guys,

floyd aint gonna fight williams! theres no chance of that. that actually takes guts of which floyd is short of!

  • iceman says:

    2 true wowz,

i’ve argued with this idiot before, and whilst i dont mind people challenging your train of thought, hell people can disagree, its the ignorance to the facts that pi**es me off.

s**t, to alot of jmm fans and pac haters think jmm would have won every round bar the first! just ignorant!

i watched the fight on the weekend again and i would agree that bar the first round marquez had it in the bag. but he didnt!

  • Oli says:

Im a mayweather supporter but il be shocked if its williams. Id also be surprised if its margarito.

  • iceman says:

    plus lex,

what evidence do you have that margarito had loaded gloves against cotto??

they get their gloves checked and signed off by the commission before the fight!

he got caught before the mosley fight and told to retape them!

s**t man you just base all your comments on speculation that suits you man!

and whats with calling fighters shot and writing them off so quickly…

cotto is a great boxer and still has a world title left in him i feel

  • Olly-Waterloo says:

OMG it definatly could be margarito..

an overrated fighter due to loading gloves
who has lost his last fight to tko
and has been out of the ring for over a year now!

    DEFINATLY A MAYWETHER FIGHT ..

it will utterly suprise me if its paul williams!

im a massive pac man fan but
if its paul williams and i had to choose
    daym that would be close

  • lex_fugitive says:

    Val,
Yes Mosley was outboxed in a tight fight with Cotto. But Cotto was shot after his near death experience with plaster. His chin, speed, reflexes, and stamina didn’t look the same against Clottey as pre-plaster.

  • Tbone says:

like i stated a few comments ago…i think itll be Margarito

  • Inubasan says:

Floyd, you have guts. We can never underestimate such plans but it’s not bad at all. We boxing fans from both sides are treated with Mega-double date. This could be the date that me and my wife will have a big fight for I will subscribe both PPV and that is out of our budget.
Good luck but please select a quality fighter.

  • VAL says:

    Lex,

Mosley was outboxed by Cotto, and Mosley brought down an unloaded Margo. I like Mosley, but Cotto was a valid option.

  • Tbone says:

    Margo!!!

  • ART SA BOXING EXPERT says:

    SCHAFFER IS A FAT A S S

  • lex_fugitive says:

    wowza,
Manny beat JMM the same way that Holyfield fought to a draw against Lewis- by getting beat up for 12 rounds. And actually when Floyd agreed to fight JMM, Mosley was calling out Manny. Mosley even offered to fight at 143. But Manny will never fight another boxer after his gift from the judges against JMM. Marquez landed 15 more punches, 16 more power shots and connected 9% more than Manny. Ineffective aggression isn’t supposed to win rounds. Clean, effective punching is supposed to be the main factor, and no judge used that in the two JMM-Manny fights.

  • jason says:

@Roy That is a really good question cousin. I believe Floyd came out of retirement to erase all doubt about who the best of our era is. I believe when he does announce his fight …it will be signed already. And it will be Williams because Schaefer said Floyd will fight somebody that will shut up the haters that say …you know what they say. Yeah he wants to shut all that down. I also heard Delahoya say Floyd wants Mosley so Floyd is ready to take any and everybody out at this point. The haters are in for a “big” surprise in my mind. That is my prediction. Somebody has to win every fight. I got Floyd everytime no matter who is opposing 147-154.

  • Timii says:

If Flo really want to up Pac, either:
Mosley (just pay Berto not to fight)
    Williams (existing risk factor)

    all the rest seems irrelevant.

  • jason says:

Does anybody know if the Clottey fight is signed yet? Is it 147lbs or catchweight?

  • ares says:

@ Rocky your 100% right. And people tend to forget that it was Marquez who called Floyd out noit the other way around. And why would Floyd reject a fighter who arguably beat Pac twice?

  • Daud says:

@ rocky, no thats how they act about Pacquio when its Floyd they talk skills

  • Rocky says:

WHY DO PEOPLE TALK ABOUT MAYWEATHER AS IF HE IS A GIANT. you would think mayweather was as big as valuev the way people talk about him.

  • ares says:

I hope its Williams, Martinez or Bradley. A fight against any one of these three would surely sell more than the Pac/Clottey fight….
And by the way ,Pac fans have proved to be the dumbest boxing fans in the world-All throughout this hooplah regarding Pac/Floyd fight whee people are makiing clear fact-based comments the pacfans resort to chilish, racist jibes and Fried chicken jokes..Cmon really??

  • Daud says:

I like Williams but ppl need to stop making him into this killer. Skill wise he is decent. He is just taller than most and throws a lot of punches. Floyd can beat him. Its not like all his fights are cake walks. Remember all the other ppl that were hyped up to be the one that beat Floyd and how many careers did Floyd end or destroy.(Baldomir, Gatti, Judah, De La Hoya, Hatton)

  • Ric says:

I like to see both Mayweather and Pacquiao fights, So I believe for our own sake, Mayweather should move his fight on March 20. I am watching both fight on PPV.

  • Ric says:

Hope Mayweather will not ask for OLYMPIC STYLE RANDOW BLOOD TEST.
or this will not happen again.

  • z says:

another reason ric that i think this fight will be march 13, we all know floyds likes any advantage he can get (and im a floyd fan but the marquez fight proved that if he can get an advantag he’ll take it) the opponent will jump all over the fight for whatever date and floyd knows that which is why he will insist it stay march 13 (the mind games will already begin).

That and he wants to take as many buys away from arum and pac as he can.

  • lex_fugitive says:

    James;
I hope its williams, but Cintron definitely isn’t small. Cintron would also enjoy a height and reach advantage over Floyd, and has a lot more power. Really, though, if floyd fights and destroys williams, he will still be accused of cherry picking. judah was one of the biggest names. Baldomir was a champ with a non-stop motor and an iron chin. De la Hoya was De la Hoya at De la Hoya’s weight. And Floyd would have been ducking if he hadn’t fought Hatton the biggest name at the time. And yes JMM was smaller, but Manny moved up with no problem. If Mayweather would have came back and fought Manny before Manny fought Oscar, Floyd would have won easily and got absolutely no credit for beating a smaller guy that got outboxed by someone thats half the boxer Floyd is. Bottom line, it doesn’t matter who Floyd fights, as long as he wins he will be known as cherry-picking.

  • Gimli says:

    It will be Mosley!!!!!!

  • Ric says:

Who ever Mayweather pick in 2 to 3 days from now, The fight will never happen on March 13. The fighter that Mayweather is going to pick just don’t have enought time to train. Mayweather has been training since for Pacquiao. Another advantage for Mayweather if he wants the fight on March 13.

  • z says:

i agree cali if he fights bradley he would make him come up to 147 but ide still buy it because i think bradley is one of the few people that could match his speed (even at 147)

if i had to pick one of the 4 i might prefer martinez to williams.

  • gard says:

300lbs. Rick Ross.Just kidding! I hope its Cintron.

  • cali says:

    hey z
i think the best opposition from your list would most likely n paul williams but they wont go there for him its really dangerous 6’2″ and an 10″ reash advantage. plus his fighting style threatens the “0″ . cintron got handed by margarito. and bradly williams are jr welters who hell make come up to 147 becuz of the purse. he uses money as leverage and lures the fighters into a no chance at winning

  • z says:

I’ll be interested to see schafers definition of a “big fight”.

He’s still gonna fight the berto/mosley winner its just going to be in the summer.

For this march fight (assuming it stays in march) if he wants my $ he better fight cintron/bradley/martinez or williams. Anyone else (esp Campbell or Paulie) and ill be giving my 60 bux to arum.

  • roy says:

a good question is ,why did floyd come out of retirement? what purpose ?get in his head , was it to fight manny for the p4p welterweight belt,or was it to vindicate his name to fight all the welterweight fighter people are saying he ducking,is he going to avoid both?
we could learn a lot,by who he picks, and why did he not just be happy manny let him cut in line for a welter weight belt, and the title glory of p4p champ, even as manny would have fought 3 month later after a hard cotto fight vs half year+ floyd fight.

  • boxing fan says:

richard schaefer you sucks!you are making a fool out boxing fans.who’s floyd’s opponent?a pushover?i’ll never gonna watch floyd even if it’s free.shame on you all at your camp!you’re putting the sports of boxing down.hope hbo won’t cover that fight cause i aiin’t gonna watch it.

  • cali says:

hating on floyd or his level of competition. or tarnishing the sport and one of its greatest warriors. or how about his level of competition. how bout u back him up and tell me a top welter who he should fite. how bout top 10 or top 20

  • roy says:

why dont floyd fight zab again ,that would get a challenge tp manny fight,I like many taught zab won that fight.bet he would eat floyd up now,if not, lets see. floyd are you game?

  • Oneforall says:

Stop hating on Floyd wait 2-3 days and you can drum again your nonsense.

  • Sessy Floyd says:

I say give Plaster Margo to Floyd or Cotto that’s it nomore lightweight or lightWW. Now if he wants to fight the lightweight/LWW then he needs to go down not them going up in weight. If he is a real pound for pound he needs to be the one adjusting his size to fight. Just fight a real welterweight with talents and name. Well he won’t bcoz he wants to fight Ivan Calderon! LOL! I can’t believe this guy is in welterweight division and never want to fight the welterweight top notchers. What a Wuuzzz!

  • Jose SFBoxing says:

LOL…definetely the mayweather williams fight….I would love to see the pay-per-view draw battle…I dont know but would assume williams-mayweather would be the bigger draw than pacqauoi clottey…

  • jason says:

Question: If Mayweather fought P.Williams on March 13th …which fight would yall buy?HHHMMMMM.

  • jason says:

I think it will be Williams too. The Mayweather camp have been very careful and sparing with words, unlike Arum and company. Everytime they have spoken it has been meaningful words spoken. They have been pretty forward and upfront about everything meaning they stick to facts. If Schaefer says big fight my guess is Williams or Bradley in that order. Might be Bradley since Bradley matches Floyd’s previous opponents in size. I am a big Mayweather fan by the way. Williams would be a big fight by far…Fight of the Year fa sho.

  • Jose SFBoxing says:

Well…three days to name an opponent…doesn’t look like it is going to be Mosley. If Mayweather wants to be piund for pound, and he wants to be a hall of famer, he needs to fight some real dangerous opposition. He needs to prove he is a warrior to win over real fight fans, not just boxing fans, or admirers of the sweet science. I am a Floyd supporter, I think he has the supreme confidence and amazing reflexes and extrordanary work ethic (from what insiders tell me) but he has not truly been tested, and that is what the public clamors for. A test. Who should he fight next? Williams. Will he. I dont know, and dont care to speculate. If he does, that is what we need. Can he beat him? He is the smaller, same age, better technician, but it is a tough fight. Hearns vs Leonard…maybe…maybe a boring technical fight. if he wins a boring technical fight…he wins…and people will still complain. But we wont know unless he actually risks it and fights him…but it is definetely what boxing needs.

  • Armando says:

Are you blind………obviously the secret opponent for KFC is still…….yes……Manny Pacquiao

  • Anonymous says:

If he’s goin to fight cintron at 154 why not go for the 154 WB0 champion martinez!! Floyd calls the shots he can get anyone!! If he wants mosley am sure mosley will cancel his berto fight for floyd!! Floyd can get anyone but he doesn’t want to!!

  • cal says:

his best bet is to bring another jr.WW or to bring another light weight up to 147 thats his thing.

  • cal says:

dam floys hrt hands maylocaine will not fite williams 6’2 at an 82 reach. and floyd only 5’8 and 72 inch reach. thats a no go! u got to remember thats 10 inch reach and if u ever seen paul fight ud know y mayweather is gonna loose

  • MP says:

Whoever Floyd gets to fight he still need to beat Pacquiao then he could proclaim himself the greatest fighter.

  • Floyd says:

    someone big,,hmmmm, dela hoya?,,hmmm, hatton?,,or paulie the big head!1lol

  • Oberserver says:

Beleieve it when it happens… till then, it’s all speculations.

  • James Halkim says:

@ testicularfortitude = catchweight or no catchweight, Williams is gonna be the opponent and yes Mayweather will win because he’s that good.

He might fight Williams at 147 who will be even weaker and more vulnerable with that long skinny chicken neck than when he wuz exposed badly by martinez at 154…

He is getting older and his natural growth and frame is much more suited at 160 and above…at 154 he is already too gangly and weakened by suppressing what should be natural bulk and muscle growth … at 147, floyd will easily dispose of him, perhaps with a few body shots to unprotect the head followed by a few rights to the head which with that emaciated neck would rattle his brain stem like a jack in the box…it’ll be a knockout, it’ll be a smart fight for floyd if he press on the catch weight

@ lex_fugitive = I’m telling you it’s Williams, after this blood test debating and fighting on the same night as pacman do you think he’s gonna fight a small cintron ? exactly..

Mayweather needs a “real” figter: Mr Paul Williams

  • Concho says:

Williams list that fight against Martinez everywhere but on the scorecard. Cintron is a better pickvthan willis just because he ‘could’ end it at any moment with one punch. Yes, he’ll have to find a way to catch Money but Cintron is the only real threat of a ko. It’s for that reason I hopemayweather makes the right choice, Kermit Cintron!

  • lex_fugitive says:

So cintron is bad because he lost to a guy with plaster in his hands and struggeled against Martinez? Didn’t Williams just have a lot of problems with Martinez in his last fight? Williams barely escaped with a split decision over Martinez in his last fight. However, it will probably be Cintron or if not then Mosley in May. It could be Williams, but I don’t see Haymon allowing that to happen.

  • James Halkim says:

@ iceman = listen he’s going to fight him, who else is there ? cintron ? please.. give me a break… he is mayweather but even he know’s cintron aint the right man.

Remeber schaefer said “this is going to be a big fight”.

    Get ready everyone:

    Mayweather vs Williams

  • Greener says:

Mayweather better face someone able to keep up with him. Bradley or Williams are just a few who can give it to him. However, despite like Mayweather technique and skill his personality is something I don’t want fans of boxing to emulate. Come on Mayweather, the Ali impersonation is not fooling anyone especially when I hear you and other people admit it’s a act to get viewers.

  • iceman says:

    James Halkim,

i can guarntee you now that floyd never steps into the ring with paul williams!

    GAURNTEE!

  • Concho says:

Mayweather needs to fight Cintron. Let’s hope he makes the right choice and gives us a fight worth getting excited about. Mayweather vs. Cintron…the fight that ‘should’ happen!

  • liam flinn says:

There are so many fights mayweather could take right now i.e williams, maidana and bradley. However the fighters we REALLY want him to face (pacquiao and mosley) are tied up. I think mayweather should take an easier fight and see how the Mosley and Pacquiao fights pan out before deciding who he wants. An UNDEFEATED Mayweather is the biggest attraction in boxing and I feel he is protecting his record before going against the big guns so will probably dodge Williams even though (apart from Mosley and Pacquiao) Willams would be the biggest fight he could get right now. I feel he will dodge Bradley because Bradley is a massive danger due to his speed so I think Mayweather will fight Mallinaggi and if he does fight Mallinaggi, its disappointing. Mayweather is my favourite boxer EVER for various reasons but I wouldn’t even defend him if he fought Mallinaggi, Cintron or Campbell. Please Mayweather fight Williams, Maidana, Bradley or Devon Alexander!!!

  • James Halkim says:

He’s going to fight Williams, we already know that!
