Ricky Hatton Linking up with Trainer Joe Gallagher for return?

By James Harold: Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton is reportedly looking for one more fight to bow out to this year. Potential opponents names will be thrown around (with Marquez looking most likely) but on the trainer front, due to the shortcomings of Mayweather Snr. the rumor is that he is considering Joe Gallagher, regarded by many to be Great Britain’s top boxing trainer. Gallagher has allready taken over the gym where Hatton used to train, the Phoenix Camp Gym.

The gym has been renamed ‘Gallagher’s', but the old school ways of Rickys times there have remained. Gallagher, who already has a business relationship with Hatton, feels he knows how to get “The Hitman” back to the top, stating, “With fighters like Ricky it’s not a case of teaching them new things. It’s about reminding them what they do best.”

In regards to Hatton’s shape, he knows that Hatton is a driven individual once training the camp starts, and he knows the “Hitman” will be focused, but loosing the 50-60 odd extra pounds of weight he seems to be carrying on him will be no easy feat, especially as he will be needing to quickly getting back into fighting shape.

Joe Gallagher is the best trainer around. So what, he was an amateur coach, was’nt Ricky Hatton, John Murray & Matthew Macklin etc etc once all amateurs. Joe’s record as a professional trainer is outstanding & that cannot be questioned. Ricky Hatton has been too good for British boxing to go out flat on his back, he derserves to go out a winner & therefore needs to be trained by the best & that man is Joe Gallagher.

I for 1 think ricky should get bak in the ring get a warm up fight under his bel and six to twelve months have a tasty fight that he wants. If u ave followed his career like I have then u will know ricky can do this? Best of British ricky hatton had a fantastic career and he has took on the worlds best has to offer jst a shame his trainin for both mayweather n paccy fights wasn’t spot on

Joe Gallagher is a great trainer for the job and has done a great job already with Murray and Macklin. Only other Manchester based trainer in the same league is Bryan Hughes MBE.

  • ALAN BOSWORTH says:

Gallagher is the rite man for the job,he already trains a successfull unbeaten pressure fighter in john murray.who perhaps walks around at 145 147lb,so working and training at home with him hatton will get his hunger back.the only thing worries me is hatton needs a good 5 6 months before fighting a top class opp.i think hatton will have a good team around him who cares, [not like mayweather snr] hatton should fight a warm up at 147lb then keep is weight rite and have a title fight oct nov time at 140lb.

ricky hatton good fighter i saqy if he wants 1 more fight then so be it he has been a great worrier so good luck us brits will be rooting for you

  • David Mason says:

Amateur boxing coach may be ideal for hatton. The style of an amateur trainer would get Hatton moving away from punches more.

Amateur fight coaches don’t mean their ability is ‘amateur’. Is Nacha the one that Khan had before Roach. Arizer (Its actually Ariza) what did he do that marked him out as a bit of a nob?

  • Alex 'Drug dealer' Arizer says:

Joe Gallaghe isnt the man to train him. This guy was an amatuer trainer until a few years back…The guys a tit I met him at the MKurray/Thaxton weigh in…complete knob….He should go to Nacho in Mexico

  • David Mason says:

NJ good shout! I agree. If his ‘WILL’ was shattered, WHY then does he have the ITCH???

Hatton is unfortunately not diverse enough to be an elite fighter, but he is still a top champion when hes at his best. Just not a p4p.

No one questions UFC MMA fighters who get knocked down coming back to fight and if Ricky wants to fight and his trainer and the BBBofC feel he can, THEN we should get behind him. Not sledge him. He beat himself against Mayweather by allowing PBF to use his power against him. Against Pacman, his strategy was terrible. But against an opponent with less power or one with less speed I can see him coming up trumps and finishing his career with a bit of glory.

I for one dont want Ricky to retire on that last note against Pacman, even if its just a grudge match against Witter or an exhibition fight against De la Hoya

Hey all you cats who are sayin Rickys will is now broken cause he had such a bad KO loss, You all cant be fighters. I bet those sayin that stuff have never even been in a ring and Sparred. All he has to do is get back to what he used to do as an Undefeated fighter and all his spirit will be in it. Go getem Hatton. We love you in Texas!!

  • del boy says:

I cant believe people keep going on about the hitmans weight he has done it his whole career though i dont agree with it once ricky starts the training he will lose it and make 140 easily. He likes the lifestyle and guiness and in all fairness if he would have treated his body like a temple i still cant see ricky beatin floyd or pac.

Im rooting for ricky one last fight in the uk for his army of fans who have followed him through thick and thin.

BLUE MOON ricky one last time lad lets have it.

  • Sean says:

Never seen Ricky so big! I’d be pushed to say that it isn’t impossible to drop that much weight and get into fighting shape…and not be drained!

If he wants to have a last bow out fight against Marquez, then make it late in the year, and give himself plenty of time to get down to fighting weight and keep his energy. We’ve seen a old timer like De la hoya challenged to make a lower weight and look drained and taking a beating.

Hitman is letting heart takeover his head with this one.

  • Dustin says:

Ricky should do what he wants to do. It is vile that everyone is being so negative about The Hitman. If he feels he can do it, than he should give it a go. If he decides to hang it up, I see a bright future ahead of him as a promoter. He is not just a “peoples fighter”, he will be a “boxers promoter”. Sounds a bit cheese, but it is true.

  • Abi says:

ricky hatten is the best <3

  • slumpy says:

    ricky could fight haye?

  • Pauli says:

Hatton is all done. He can’t lose 60 lbs. and be ready anymore. A KO like he sustained is something that breaks a fighter’s will. And if you’re getting long in the tooth, like Hatton, a comeback after such a bashing is near impossible. Let him eat and rest like the old warrior he is.

  • Ancient_Silence says:

    I have a bad feeling about this…
