Random thoughts on the Mayweather-Pacquiao megafight

By David Anderson: I was into blood testing for Manny Pacquiao until I’ve read previous article in the same website entitled Pacquiao-Mayweather, the saga continues. I asked myself the same questions so many times that in the end, I started to doubt the credibility and the need the other camp is demanding right now. While blood testing for drugs might be a step forward in boxing, but you may wonder is it necessary?

Is doing the blood test will do good for boxing in the long run? For both questions, I think the answer is no. While blood testing as I said might be a step forward, no evidences has been laid that it is the superior test for drug testing, that it is more efficient and more banned substances could be detected through blood testing. Considering this fact, such blood testing will do more harm than good to boxing, as it will now question the credibility of NSAC, as more and more boxers/fight may ask blood test without the really need for it.

You may also wonder about the procedures, why only 48hrs before the event the athlete would participate in? I think there is no difference if they are to extend in 72 or even 96 hours to detect PED onto a suspected user. Much more 2hours after the start of the fight, I think there is NO NO NO significant difference. Traces of PED won’t be excreted for 2hours. In addition, If I’m with Golden Boy Promotions/ Floyd Mayweather Jr. camp, I would not suggest an agency that I have a link with, as the validity of the result may be question after the test, so I would go for another agency that no one in both camp is affiliated with.

Mayweather always claimed that he is the greatest, that the man who can beat him is still not born yet, but suddenly why so much a concern about their megafight with Pacquiao from their camp. But I don’t see their swag now, or maybe they really don’t have that swagger. “The greatest” can only be applied to those not afraid to take risks and still win the contest despite a lot of disadvantages. I can’t see that with Mayweather, why do you think he retired even when Mosley, Paul Williams and Miguel Cotto is out there in the same division to challenge him? And why not a comeback fight with them?

Instead they fight Marquez at higher catch weight, at weight Marquez is not good at and yet, Mayweather weigh-in with an excess of 2lbs. How many times did he fought a future Hall of Famer in his career? Is fighting this 40 would really cement his legacy? Those 40 are all good but only very few are Hall of Famers. If Mayweather-Pacquiao would not push through, why would Mayweather go with Matthew Hatton, instead of going with Williams or Cotto who is now no fight in line. There are so many options with PBF but why don’t make or answer the call?

As for any boxing fans, especially those who hate Pacquiao and pro-Mayweather, why not answer the questions posted from the article I mentioned earlier and be the judge yourself, coz I cant see any hater from that article who is willing to give his answer. So for my wish this 2010, a Pacquiao-Mayweather mega-fight and lets get this on, to settle whose the greatest.

  • missterry says:

good job!…uhm for those “doctors wanna be” like Mayweather Sr…can you explain the Olympic doping that wasnt detected and later on some athletes admitted that they cheated….that was the medical examination that the Mayweathers camp demanded right?….ignorance! tsk tsk tsk!

  • Nike Fan... says:

    @Dense a.k.a (dunce)

Who are you to make demands >? Why should every fighter take a test ? Coz a formal drug dealer and his crew say so >? Was there anyone legitimate that requested this from the Pac crew >? Was there proof from the past that Manny had taken or failed ANY drug testing >? The only denial by the Pac camp is that someone else do the tests besides ones that are closely tied to Dela-Joka and his crew.

Okay, you’re asking me to imagine stuff that probably happens already in the Wide World Of Sports. Cycling, Wrestling, Footbal, Baseball, Rowing, Weight Lifting. I’m sure I missed others but in the end….

Who cares with your hypothetical crap. Why don’t you just imagine this. Manny has kicked the $hit out of EVERYONE in his last 40 fights. Where as Fraud has barely squeaked by. Stop playing make believe on stuff that hasn’t happened. Are you the boxing commission ? Are you the governor of a state that will fill the jails full of so called roiders. Dude, there isn’t enough room in the world for the people that take supplements to help them in their sport. Don’t get me going. Next time you write in CAPS think about the consequences from more informed people on here that’ll crush your lame statements…

    @ blackbert and DENNS

In my opinion you doesn’t really read the article or if you do, you don’t really comprehend.
to blackbert, what’s the difference behind designer drugs? are designer drugs designed to be only detected in blood test that is have to be randomly taken 48hrs before the fight?ha ha ha, you must won a nobel price for that.you are very genius and very informative.ha ha ha.

@ denns , so it means all champions, including NBA, NFL, NHL, UFC should always conduct blood test to all its fighters/players? Unless specified by WADA and the whole scientific community that blood test is the accepted test for drug testing, then every athlete would follow. but if its you who wanted blood test, damn men, we are not on drugs to buy what you wanted.

AND AFTER A POSITIVE TEST SHOULD BE EITHER JAIL OR 3 YEARS SUPENSION

DO YOU REALLY MEAN THIS WOW MAYWEATHER JR. IS AN EX-OLYMPIAN, AND HE DOESNT HAVE ANY STRAND OF ETHICS IN HIM. HE HAS MORE EGO THAN ALL PPL OF VEGAS COMBINE. HIS EGO OF ZERO LOSS IS HIS DRIVING FORCE RIGHT NOW, IF HE LOSES THAT HE WILL LOSE HIS WILL TO LIVE….

  • boxingfan says:

elloco where are you? I can’t see your comments anymore. Oh well the law is right, you have the right to remain silent coz anything that you say will be use against you..you also have the right to be open minded, unless PBF really turned your head around..ima bounz..

  • Larry says:

It’s amazing how FMJ and his team has turned the sport of boxing into the WWE. He has managed to turn this sport into a giant soap opera and his fans blindly following. FMJ is not even a champion and he is the one making demands such as fighting at 154lbs.,10 oz gloves random blood tests. Boxing does not need FMJ.Any fighter would gladly jump at the chance to make that type of money in a heartbeat what seems to be the problem?

  • mr.sweetsci says:

it’s so funny that some people keep insisting random blood testing for this fight that don’t even know the difference between those tests. here’s one reason why they don’t use blood test(for doping purposes)in the olympics(or any other sports, this includes boxing).some athletes tends to produce abnormally high HGH. this natural HGH can be detected through blood testing method. this can mislead to suspicion that the athlete is taking PEDS. but that’s not really the case. urine testing on the other hand, can detect HGH that the body don’t produce(artificial HGH).

  • Luke Ilidan. says:

Too bad that Floyd chooses GBP to represent them in negotiation for this fight. They don’t really care about the fight because he is not their fighter, their cut is small. They want Floyd to fight Mosley, which is their fighter and will earn big money for them. Floyd has no choice but to fight Mosley because that is the only big fight out there aside Paquiao. Although Arum like the fight because of money, he can still earn it in a long run. Matching Pacs To Yuri, Arum is a sure winner. Yuri is arum’s protegee. If he wins, the new star is born, means new money machine. If Pacs win, he is still the star and a lot more money for him. Its all about money for promoters. Pride and Principle for the fighters.

  • imajin says:

What if we settle the talk like this, since they both comply with the NSAC call to give urine sample last week, for sure both boxers don’t flush the banned substance in their body if there is any and then have the fight this jan 10 to settle things once and for all, like pac said fight anywhere anytime, but like PBF act, duck anywhere anytime

  • el loko loko says:

I agree with you boxing fan, I dont wanna be dumb forever like elloco did..haha..what he can do is do is talk talk and talk like his Idol did, I know now where PBF father and son will be good at. They’ll be good doing talk show, they might even surpass oprah, ellen and tyra banks , letterman and jim o’brien tv views combined. They aren’t comedienne but they are very funny..hahaha.

  • preleste says:

It s a bit funny that Roach and Pacman outsmarted floyd and company. they were thinking pac will not fight on the 13th of March or nearer the election date of the philippines so they call for a march date since roach told the media that it will require team pacquiao more time to fight the like of mayweather. Lil floyd came out bragging not knowing that pac’s training in Baguio Philippines s already aimed at him and not against cotto. Floyd Jr was taken aback when manny declared he is for the record ready to face floyd in March. Moral lesson: Do not brag when u can not back your words. Wisdom thoughts: Brag only when the person can not hit you back!!

  • Nike Fan... says:

This is for those who talk about Manny’s rise from the 120′s to where he’s at now. It’s not rocket science people. It’s natural. But we’ll always have the misinformed who’ll argue that Manny uses peds’s to get to where he’s at now. Was there steroids back when these people moved through weight classes ?

  • mr.sweetsci says:

hey Andre00…..where have you been lately? before pacquiao filed the lawsuit, the mayweather camp talk a lot of negative things about pacquiao. have you read oscar’s comment on his blog in the ring magazine? that was before pacquiao filed the lawsuit. the mayweathers ACCUSED…yeah, ACCUSED pacquiao of taking PEDS. i don’t know what the mayweather camp is planning but i think this lawsuit silenced them a little bit.

  • boxing fan says:

elloco when floyd makes an appology to pacman and admits that he went overboard with his attack on pacman what are you going to say then.let mayweather spin your head if he wants to fighy pacman and truly believes he can win than he should have just shut up and put up.

    @ elloco

its only bigger because it happen not yearly and this is for the prestige of every country. Some events in olympics is also participated by professional who played in some of the leagues you mention? so this means they are the clean? If olympics is more bigger, then it should be more stricter so why some athletes can fake olympic comission and pass the screening?
and how did you know the union and owners don’t want it?if that is the case then testing is no more needed and all players must play in roids to be more athletic and to be more showtime.
and who said Pac isnt willing? again check your facts right, he is willing but not 48hours before the fight, this is because of the event that happened during his morales fight. Would 72hours before the fight or 2hours after the fight has start would be significantly differ from being randomly tested 48hours before the fight?

  • LabDoc says:

Last time I checked who is receiving boxing recognition awards Pacman’s name is there. No even a mention of the other guy. What’s his name again? Money-weather? Polls and surveys also reflect an overwhelming majority in support of Pacman. THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN! Pacman is the P4P best boxer engraved on record. Money-weather, well, he is the P4P in his own mind.

  • elloco says:

I am sorry to say this, but you are an idiot.
The Olympic are bigger than any pro sport.

The reason this in not in the NBA, MLB, NFL is because the players’ union and the owners don’t want it, because it would be the end of sports as we know it. They want to implement test gradually.

You can’t name boxer or dates, so you are fool of sh*t.

Floyd could be on steroids too, but at least he was willing to take random blood tests.

  • boxingfan says:

    @ elloco

I did answer your question, there are boxers caught, but the dates i do not know. So if you think I cant answer your question and is it valid to say that PBF may also have cheated drug test and haven’t caughht by NSAC? IF its the most advanced test, I would presume any drug testing agency would also do such test to be not left behind.

  • elloco says:

You couldn’t answer my question so there is nothing more to talk about.

I could care less about the other agencies. Let’s just say is a fact that none of them is as effective as the Olympic agencies at catching a cheat.

To me Manny and his camp are hiding something. The best way for them to end all this is to either agree to random blood tests and beat up Floyd, or officially announce another fight.

I don’t care what Manny does, but they could end this by officially announcing another fight.

At this end of the day, if I am Floyd and I feel the man is a cheat I would ask myself why should I make a cheat any richer? Prove to me that you can’t go a beat the most advanced tests than we can fight…Fu*k the money…money comes money goes..

  • boxingfan says:

    @ elloco

and why can’t you answer questions I’ve posted? are you lost in words or reason?

  • boxingfan says:

    @ elloco

Ive answered your question. So when were you born? anyone can make something and upload it in the net. I too can upload the benefits from blood test without scientific basis and after sometime google about blood testing and I’ll find my post right there. See is it valid? No. You have to have the valid references to have a credible report.

  • doctor says:

to all pretending to be dope experts here…

If blood testing coupled with urine is way too effective, THEN WHY THE HELL IS NEVADA STATE ATHLETIC COMMISSION NOT ADOPTING A BLOOD TESTING POLICY TO COME ALONG WITH URINE??? WHY?? Can we ask the experts here? I’m assuming all those for Pacman’s blood test are dumb or just jealous enough that the best pound for pound king in the planet today did not come from America! This is the major consensus of most american sports writers! So at the back of their minds, this guy has something in his blood because he’s just we too powerful! And you thought eating rice breakfast, lunch and dinner isn’t good enough?

C’mon now. let’s just make this fight happen. If mayweather is the bigger and stronger man, he should drop this silly random blood test demand and fight! And we’ll see how he will handle the beating of his life.

If i’ll be paid $40 million dollars, hell, i’ll drop those silly drug test demand! i’ll even fight both Pacman and Freddie Roach together even if they brought with them America’s M1A2 Abrams battle tank! God bless america!

  • boxingfan says:

    @ elloco

So what now if they are ex-olympians? It only means they wanted to train harder to became professional. But if it goes other way around, if professional boxers will join olympic boxing, it might have been dominated by south americans, europeans and asians.
So when did the last time boxing caught a cheat? there are instances that a boxer is reported positive but its rare that there is a cheater. Having ask this question would question every boxer of this generation.
I’ll be asking you again, so do you discredit all the agency that test professional sports? and another thing, why did so many cheating allegation surfaces after the olympic?what happened to the random blood test?

  • elloco says:

    elloco

The best professional boxer from the US are ex-Olympians. Yeah, I feel the Olympics have more ethic than any professional sport.

The NBA, NFL and Baseball couldn’t catch a cheat even if if came through the front door. It’s fact. When was the last time boxing caught a cheat? Answer that question or concede the argument.
    Posted January 3, 2010

    Did you answer my question?

When was the last time boxing caught a cheat? If you can’t answer shut the hell up you fool. Moreover, if you knew how to use Goggle you would find not 100s, but 1000s or articles about how more efficient random blood tests are compared to just non-random urine tests alone that boxing does.

  • boxingfan says:

    @ elloco

how can you say so that manny is a cheater? so if I say you’re a cheater would my statement be valid? So where are the articles saying bloodtest is efficient? and who are those people who wrote that? r u a chemist or a doctor too to say it is more efficient? But you’re right, everybody deserve a clean sport, but do you think it isn’t diry if PBF came in at weight of 146 when in fact the contract is supposed to be 144 when he fought marquez? Pacfans doesn’t discredit USADA, maybe they only abide the rules given by the comission, as what the camp from Pac said “They would only abide NSAC”. So you better get your facts right because as what I see, you talk faster than you think.

  • elloco says:

So if amateur rules is good for olympics does it means it should apply for professional leagues? and if its good for the olympics good for boxing can be applied in reverse? I mean would you allow professional boxers compete in olympic boxing?

  • elloco says:

All I got to say is if it’s good for the Olympic than it’s good for boxing. Manny can move on and fight whomever he wants, but if Floyd feels he a cheat and the test is the most advanced than Floyd doesn’t have to fight him.

There are 100 of articles that say random blood test are the most advanced. Combined with random urine tests there are most efficient than just one urine test after the fight.

Manny nuthuggers won’t shut up. The best you can do for Manny is shut the hell up, because the more you talk the more guilty he looks. You fools are now trying to discredit USADA, and the whole Olympic tests. The Olympics are far more credible the Manny and his camp.
I am sick of you fools. You know more the chemists and doctors.

In the long run a clean sport is better than a dirty sport.

Your boy is a cheat and there is nothing you can do about that. He ain’t a special fighter, but a cheat.

Mayweather avoided Cotto,Mosley, and Paul Williams..then fought the much smaller Marquez! Thats a fact! He cherry picks, I don’t see any argument in this? Weather you are pro Pac or pro Floyd. I thought he would easily agree to fight Pacman because he is also a smaller fighter, but I guess after the Pacquio-Cotto matched it changes he’s mind. Even from the beggining Floyd does not want this fight, he was and is only pressured from the boxing fans and huge payday to agreed for the negotiations. However, keeping the undefeated record as much as possible is still very important to him than anything, even over money!
This guy is a big waste for boxing, he did he’s part before the retirement,he should not have come back and keep disappointing the fans of boxing. Enough is enough!!!!

  • boxingfan says:

Sometimes you have to wonder why in some articles there are so many pac haters keep saying this, keep sayin that. Those articles provides the big puctures, or pro PBF. But when you give the details or give them something to think of why they keep on hatin on Pac, nobody is there to give enough justification. They just keep on saying he is on roids without the necessary facts or evidences. Lets be fair man, lets go into details and again in your mind ask this, what did he do 2 u 2 hate em? did he talk too much but cannot walk all the talk? I am sure no one excites you watching a fight the way he did.

  • Juan dela Cruz says:

Let’s just accept that for now the fight cannot be made on March 13. Pacquiao to fight Foreman and Mayweather to fight Hatton or who ever he cherry picks. A pacquiao win will add to his legacy as the only 8th div champion while mayweather win will amount to nothing. Pacquiao then fights mosely and then marquez to settle the issue. If pacquiao still emerges victorious which i believe he has a very strong chance of doing so and mayweather still cherry picking not opting to fight paul williams or mosely, then it would his demise in terms of his legacy. By this time he will literally begging for a fight with pacquiao.

In all of sports, PATIENCE is also a necessary virtue.

    As the saying

  • guest says:

If drug testing standards become more rigorous, the popularity of boxing will fall somewhere between MMA and mud wrestling.

  • david anderson says:

    @ im just saying

That’s the point with the article, you could be randomly tested for 48 or above hours before the fight and immediately after the fight, there is no significant if the test is to be conducted 48 hours or less. As you said, you may stop taking 30-40 days prior to fight, then it means random testing is not necessarily have to be 1-2days before the fight as you may detect the substance 28-38 days after taking it. So what if you flush the substance out 72hours before the might, then random blood testing 1-2days before the fight would be negative too. So whats your point? Beside, smoke is a whole different thing with PED. And im not saying Manny is a good guy, the point is don’t make demands that is not that logical or would question NSAC unless scientific evidences is widely available that they’re method of testing is obsolete.

    @ Alex

If what PBF demand doesn’t hurt the sport, what do you think is happening now to boxing? We fans all wanted the fight, but who is PBF to be on top of anyone including NSAC? I mean, they should abide by the rules. Until strong evidences is laid to certify that some rules that works before doesn’t anymore work now. And if they can’t provide such, why just don’t stick with rules?

    @ hbstowe

Yup, everybody was glad that boxing was in a roll, unfortunately, PBF doesn’t roll with it, instead he stop and entered again and hopefully only a temporary stop on the rollin..

  • mario says:

I don’t agree with pac fight foreman but it makes sense for pac cuz he will be fightin for a 8th title in pbf case he will only be fightin hatton cuz hatton has britain behind him a big payday!!so which one makes sense as a boxin lookin for legacy instead of money!

You retire so that a 100 million dollar fight can be created by the promoters, if Mayweather doesn’t retire we do not have this fight Mosley beats Margarito, Pacman beats Cotto, Mayweather beats Pacman, and Mosley two less fights much more money. You can’t fight everybody when you are on top. Oh Yeah why would the trainer of this so called great fighter pacman say, nothing that they used in his three previous fights would work on PBF, because there nothing in pacmans boxing ability to compare to what PBF has if you study boxing.

  • true says:

Hey Pacquaio, get off the drugs. Go check into rehab…….Or better yet, how about a fight with another known juicer=Shane Mosley. Two Juicers, Mosley vs Pacquaio…And to all you Pacquaio sperm swappers, you know good and well if it was the other way around with Mayweather refusing to take random drug test you would be calling him a cheater and a juicer. But since its Pac-roid, you side with him.

  • Pachugger says:

Mayweather is NOTHING if it wasn’t because of De La Hoya. I don’t even know what the hype is for with his 40-0. I can fist fight 40 gradeschoolers and win, that doesn’t make me matter. So why does that mayweather matter?

Drop the blood testing demands and fight, you pansy-as!!

  • tommy says:

its simple if pacroid has nothing to hide then HE SHOULD TAKE THE TESTS. No amount of floyd-hating is going to change and this will follow him for the rest of his life if he doesn’t take the tests

  • santiperes says:

Heres my ten cent opinion why this fight was not really made to happen. Floyd Jr. thinks that Pacquiao has the the means to yank away his undefeated record and smashed his self proclaimed best boxer in the world and his marketability in future fights. He found his exit hole in blood testing! All that calling out to Pacquiao to step up to the plate is just a mere posturing with no intent of fighting him hoping Manny will decine and ask for more time because of injuries he got from Cotto.

  • Brad says:

If Floyd will fight Hatton, he needs to demand same with Pacman.

  • seattle says:

Which is why Arum is so against USADA. He even came to a point to suggest other testing organization other than USADA but GBP was so against it. would you want to be tested by your enemy’s friend. Its all out in the open now that Tygart and DLH are a golf buddies.
They keep pushing the synthetic HGH issue which is very hard to detect because human body produces it also naturally. Synthetic HGH will not benefit a boxer if taken alone by itself. It will need the help of other PED’s such as estrogen, insulin, thyroid hormones, cortecosteroid, anabolic steroids and some other drugs that will show on urine tests. You see, urine test is more than sufficient enough for boxers.

  • Observer says:

Mayweather blood issue will stick with him from now on. Eventually he has to follow and submit to Nevada Commission. Will he demand blood test for his next opponents to “even the playing field”?

  • aloha says:

Very good article. Make a lot of sense. Cotto is still a risk for Mayweather. Mayweather might fight Malanaggi (the womans fist) in a football field and wear a running shoes because they’re both runners. They will be chasing each other. lol

  • Dustymagee says:

I think Andre Agassi, Barry Bonds, Michael Phelps, Marion Jones, Tonya Harding, lance Armstrong and Floyd Mayweather all have something in common….Cheats.

Its better that Pacquiao doesn’t fight this American because they have a very bad track record.

  • Andre00 says:

See toyota, that is the problem with this whole situation, people like you, writing one sided comments and try to be funny about it! Golden boy promotions always worked like this, silent till after everything has been sign. Floyd JR same thing, when it`s sign and done, then they will start opening their mouth and promote, so think twice about who is the one attacking and opening his mouth, and that is ARUM, hell he doesn`t even want Roach to talk about it.

  • Andre00 says:

Well Floyd been out of the picture for quite some time, no one knows, what plans he making, or who`s next!! all these Hatton etc etc are just rumors, news!!
