Pacquiao-Clottey undercard
By Eric Thomas: As reported by ESPN writer Dan Rafael, the Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey bout could possibly have former World Boxing Association welterweight champion Antonio Margarito fighting in the co-main event.
If this turns out to be the case, it would be the first bout for Margarito in over a year since his 9th round stoppage loss to Shane Mosley in January 2009.
Other fights on the undercard, former World Boxing Council lightweight champion Jose Luis Castillo (60-9-1, 52 KO’s) vs. fringe welterweight contender Alfonso Gomez (21-4-2, 10 KO’s). This fight has mismatch written all over it. Although Castillo was once one of the best lightweights in the world five years ago, he’s gone downhill since then as he’s moved up in weight to the welterweight division where he seems too small.
The 5’8” Castillo has lost two out of his last seven fights, with his five wins coming against 2nd tier opponents. It would seem likely that Gomez, a good brawling type fighter, will be too much for Castillo and end up dominating him.
Gomez has looked good in some of his fights, beating Jesus Soto Karass recently by a 6 round technical decision in November, and beating Carson Jones, Arturo Gatti, Jesse Feliciano and Ben Tackie. However, Gomez has been beaten when he steps it up a class, getting stopped by Miguel Cotto in 2008 and losing to Peter Manfredo Jr.
Also on the card will be unbeaten super bantamweight prospect Roberto Marroquin (11-0, 8 KO’s)

whoever comes next in-line to challenge manny paquiao, i will bet my whole 18 months of my salary as a university prof here in u.p. for manny paquiao… now put your money where your mouth is…
NOW MAYWEATHER PROVE IT TO YOUR SELF THAT YOU ARE THE MAN DONT THINK THAT YOU ARE THE WOMAN JUST COME OUT TO THE SKIRT OF YOUR MOM WHERE YOU ARE HIDING DONT TELL ANOTHER STORY COME OUT TO FIGHT MANNY PAQUIAO . PAQUIAO VS MAYWEATHER JR. AND FREDIE ROACH VS MAYWEATHER SR. AS YOUR UNDER CARD PROVE TO THE WORLD THAT YOU ARE THE GREAT BOXER . EVERY ONE KNOWS THAT YOU AFRAID TO FACE MANNY PAQUIAO.
Abe – Mayweather counter punches and dives to avoid and antagonise his oppoants, not unlike Muhammed Ali, and if he was on steroids, why would he demand RANDOM drugs testing for not only his fights, but everyone’s.
Senor Drained – Manny has only ever passed 1 blood test, which he was advised prior to taking and looked sloppy during his fight with Marquez as a result. You are wrong about the nature of the testing as the most likely time it WOULD NOT appear is after the fight due to leaving the fighter’s system 17-24 hours after being taken and is taken periodically during training to build skills along with traditional training, and even so, why include a clause that grants mayweather to win if he says he is not taking PED’s.
Wence – The logic is to make sure no fight has the chance to beat the test when given more than 24 hours notice. And if Floyd was afraid of Paquiao, why would he agree to all other demand’s of the Paquiao camp including money, gloves, weight, penalties including an unpresendanted $10,000,000 fine for every pound over weight MAYWEATHER was (not Paquiao) despite it being on record paquiao entered weigh in’s lighter thaan his opponent, but stepped into the ring heavier.
Jackson – Mosely is great not beacause he beat a cheater without his advantage (Margarito), but because he has dominated the welterweight division which is one of the most difficult and contested divisions in the world, twice in his long career.
Peace.
This is actually a pretty good undercard for the Main Event. Usually the undercards sucks and I don’t even watch them but this one has 4 great boxers willing to dish it out. Pacquiao vs Clottey will definitely sell out at Dallas Cowboys and on Pay Per View. Top Ranks really wants to stick it out to GBP. I will definitely buy the Pay Per View along with about $1M filipino homes in the US.
have you ever seen Mayweather jr. left the ring after the fight with a drop of blood spilled from his face? I never seen one. I don’t think he is an exciting fighter. He always run, what kind of boxer is that? Maybe he pays all his previous opponents for them to lost in the fight. Maybe there is mafia or something. maybe he is taking illegal drugs. He is good in pushing people around and get what he wants.
Yall keep accusing Pac of cheating but he has never failed a test. He’s the champ and he doesn’t have to make special requests for anybody. I dont blame Mayweather for wanting as many advantages as possible but when he fought an old De la Hoya, he wanted a bigger ring (to avoid a brawl, he wanted bigger gloves to soften de la hoyas left hook) Oscar gave him alot of leeway because Mayweather was champ, now the tables are turned. Pacquiao went down to a 24 day blood test instead of 30 but Mayweather declined. Plus, this is stupid, the only blood test that matters is AFTER the fight, that’s the one that shows if he fought as a cheater or legitimately. If someone offered me millions to fight Manny Pacquiao, the only test id ask for is after the fight. There was even going to be a clause in the fight that said “if Manny’s test come back positive, the fight is ruled a no contest and mayweather stays undefeated” but Mayweather STILL DECLINED!
Pacman is cheating?
Pacquiao agreed to bloodtest right after the fight. But Floyd demanding for ramdom bloodtest days before the fight. What’s the logic in there?
Floyd afraid of Pacman. That’s it!
margarito has alot to prove ,, i belive the fans want to know I WANT TO KNOW , if he is real.. he needs that one fight to get him started ,, or to get him finished,, paste on his hands ,, cheating ,, whatever ,, after this one fight if he gets it .. we will know .. the truth ,,
i agree i a good match up between manny vs margarito or maybe manny vs mosley what do think…ty
Santos took margarito 0!! Wiliams n mosley also beat him!! Margarito took martinez’s 0 10 years ago
Oh yeah this is real good…why don’t you have Mark McQuire vs Sammy Sosa on the under card 2…that way Pacquiao and Margarito won’t be the only CHEATS…
You know what this means? If Floyd gets Mosley after his next fight, Pac might fight Magarito.
margarito was caught and punished….do we need to execute him?
let the guy go back. he wasn’t a “0″ fighter even if we assumed that he cheated in all his fights.
who beat him before mosley? is that boxer an all-time-great because he could beat a guy with cement in his fists?
Fair play to the fighters on the undercard. Why should Alfonso Gomes turn down a fight with Castilo? i see that as a decent match up.
Shame I’ll be missing that match up because I havent got the slightest bit of interest in paying for Pacquiao to dominate another fighter. Im in the UK so might get it free but i might record it and watch it a day later, but theres no chance im staying up late to watch it.
Manny Pacquiao will just add another W to his record. He’s never ducked anyone in the past so why wont he fight Floyd? There’s no way something as small as blood tests are stopping it happening.
ares,
You forgot to add in Mayweather. Aren’t all those numbing agents considered as cheating as well?
EVERYONE SHOULD SEE THIS INTERVIEW WITH MANNY PACQUIAO LAST 2005..YOUTUBE..THE RECORD OF THE BLOOD HE SUBMITTED TO THE NEVADA ATHLETIC COMMISSION GOT LOST !! IN WHICH HE HAD TO DO THE SAME PROCEDURE AGAIN UNTIL HE BECAME WEAK. SIMPLY BECAUSE IT GOT ”LOST” !!! THIS COULD BE BIG NEWS !! TITLED: Manny Pacquiao- Why He Refused Blood Testing…
PACQUIAO and MArgarito on the same card?? They should get Mosley, Vargas and Toney and call it the night of cheats..LOL
i thought mayweather will be on the undercard
this fight is gonna sell out for sure, but i gurantee mayweather fight is gonna be a lot of space available unless they sale the ticket for $1.00 a piece. but im not going to watch even for one dollar because the gas is getting expensive. lol.
Not a bad undercard but it wont sell out…
include Valero vs Malignaggi and Donaire vs Darchinyan
I agree the undercard might not be as good but when has an undercard been good this past years? Seriously are u goin to hate on undercards now there hasn’t been any good undercards lately
