Over 20,000 tickets sold for Pacquiao-Clottey fight in first three hours – News

By Jason Kim: If the way that today’s tickets for the Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey were being bought up, there’s a chance that they may be able to sell out the huge 100,000 seat Dallas Cowboy stadium for their March 13th bout in Arlington, Texas. According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, over 20,000 tickets were sold in just the first three bouts today by eager boxing fans, the first day that the Pacquiao-Clottey tickets were put on sale.
This was done because they weren’t sure how many people would be interested in coming to see the fight. However, they will have to reconfigure the stadium again to allow more fans to see the fight if tickets keep flying off the shelves the way they have today. Arum thinks that the 100,000 figure can be reached, according to Rafael.
Of course, the real money is made in pay per view sales, not ticket sales. However, this is an excellent sign that the PPV numbers might be huge as well. This is pretty shocking when you take in the fact that Clottey isn’t a well known fighter to casual boxing fans. What we’re seeing is fans buying tickets just to see Pacquiao. They obviously don’t care who he’s fighting because there hasn’t been a huge buzz about this fight anywhere near the excitement that was starting to build for the failed fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is licking his chops after seeing today’s ticket sales, saying “It’s going to be quite a night. And Jerry [Jones, the Dallas Cowboy stadium and team owner] isn’t just a one-event guy. If he sees this as a success you can be sure he’ll do more boxing in that great stadium.”

It was Margarito that sold those 20,000 tickets. Margarito holds the record for selling out the STAPLES CENTER with 22,000 tickets. Arum used Margarito’s name to sell Pac-Clottey tickets. And since the ticket sales are final and non-returnable, the the fact that the terms are “card subject to change”, only goes on to show you how Arum easily used Margarito’s name, to sell so many tickets. Margarito is a hot commodity cause he beat Cotto. And Margarito DID NOT CHEAT when he tried to use plaster inserts on his wraps for the Mosley fight, cause his Team all knew that Mosley was “juiced-up” with the undetectable and illegaly banned substance known as EPO (hormones/steroids.
its almost expected. manny is presently the hottest boxer living today, a legend and a respectable person. you wont take any second thought watching his fight with anybody.

Dan Rafael is not a credible source.. His is Arum’s puppet…this is a man who takes Arum words as written in stone…even if this is true, they probably just sold the $50 tickets…

Regardless of writers or what some people say pacman picked up a whole bunch more fans with his win over cotto. He’s crossing over to the general sports fans and public. This fight will be big. Come march 13 he will pick up alot more. Floyd is f*cked. He could fight mosely or williams and it would’nt do as well as any Manny fight. 99% of the 20,000 are scalpers. After the 3rd hour until now, only 85 bought tickets. Those scalpers are now unloading those 20,000 tickets for 15% off the price but nobody is taking so they will sell 30% off tomorrow. Big loses for those stup8d brokers.

Antonio Margarito…Excuse me for not being as forgiving, but this sport has been tarnished again and again. I am happy for you to have found redemption and may your catholic soul be completely forgiven for all your sins. I think Paul Williams should fight Kelly Pavlik. That would be okay PPV numbers for you buddy. I don’t think Pacquiao would fight you not because he’s ducking you but because he knows when the height advantage would be too much (hence, he pulled away from fighting Yuri Foreman). That is a very good sign for this fight! Bob Arum is just too smart a promoter for Mayweather to go up against. Mayweather may be brilliant in the ring, but not so clever in the business world. From having Pacquiao, to having Margarito as an undercard, to Jerry Jone’s Dallas stadium, and the amount of publicity from the failed Pacquiao-Mayweather fight, Bob Arum is gonna out sell Mayweather! Love him or hate him, Arum is a brilliant man! It might not even be too far a stretch to say that he may have even caused the Blood controversy to play with Mayweather’s head and keep boxing focused on Manny. I haven’t seen any other story out there about Mayweather. What’s going on with his camp? What’s going on with the Mayweather-Mosley bout? After they announced that they robbed UFC of the May 1st date, I haven’t heard a peep from that camp since. The only thing new from Golden Boy Promotions is signing Amir Khan (Freddie Roach’s other student). By the way, that’s the first smart thing I heard Golden Boy do since this whole Mayweather Pacquiao Fiasco.

Who was the last guy PW knocked out I’m not a big fan so telled – who was it?
I used to work for a mid-sized ticket broker in Los Angeles and I can tell you pretty confidently that at least 80% of that reported 20,000 number were ticket brokers, both big-time and small-time. Many fans like to buy additional tickets, thinking that if scalped prices rise, they can sell off those extra tickets and basically go to the game/match/event for free.
There is a downside to all of this, in that if interest and sales do not actually sustain themselves, you in effect have a televised PPV with plenty of empty seats. That is one big selling point in using Cowboy Stadium, in that you can reconfigure the seating arrangement so that there less ‘empty’ seats and achieve a more ‘sold-out’ atmosphere.
But again, the ticket sales are chicken feed compared to the really important numbers: PPV buys. It doesn’t matter if they sell out 100,000 seats if they can’t come near 1 million PPV buys.

I knew the fight would sell well,said that this is a brand knew stadium ,and owners said every event so far has over sold better that expected ,even mention 20,000 would be the regulars, but how many? wildly ? 80,000 or more if they reopen the 50.00 seats.pac appeals to a wide crowd ,even in the hotel where I work I could find 8 to 10 ppv buys.
pac also has to deliver at lease 8 round of heavy punching,its a market requirement.

20,000 seats sold out the first day. I got online at 11, and all the $50 tickets sold out. I think if they release more $50 or less tickets for the nosebleed section, then can get 50,000 more fans in there.
lets recall that mayweather couldnt even sell out in vegas. he sold 13,000 tickets, but the seating capacity was 16,000… pacquiao already beat that today. They even had a 24/7 series for mayweather and marquez and they didnt sell out.
dont forget margarito is fighting on the undercard as well. People call him a cheater, but there are tons of mexican fans that dont care and would love to see him again.Especially with Arum dangling a possible Pacquiao-Margarito fight in cowboy stadium.
