News: Roach wants Pacquiao to fight Marquez

By Dave Lahr: Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach is interested in having Manny fight boxing great Juan Manuel Marquez (50-5-1, 37 KO’s) next, according to writer Nick Giongco from the Manila Bulletin. This would be a great replacement for Floyd Mayweather Jr. if Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum isn’t able to negotiate terms with Mayweather and Golden Boy Promotions. The way things are looking, with neither side willing to give in about the random blood tests, it’s looking like the March 13th Mayweather-Pacquiao fight won’t be happening.
Roach is right about the Marquez fight being a draw with boxing fans. Despite Marquez being beaten in his last fight by Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a one-sided 12 round decision loss in September, Marquez remains very popular with fans, much more popular than the little known Foreman. However, Marquez’s name has been linked with British fighter Ricky Hatton, so if Roach is serious about Pacquiao fighting Marquez, then he will have to quickly go after Marquez and try to lure him away from taking that fight.
There’s little question that Marquez would stand to make much more money in a fight with Pacquiao compared to a fight with Hatton. Ricky was stopped in the 2nd round by Pacquiao in May 2009, and has been trying to figure out if he wants to do with his career since then.
Pacquiao has twice previously fought Marquez in the past, fighting to a 12 round draw in 2004, and then beating Marquez by a controversial 12 round split decision in March 2008. There are many boxing fans who felt that Marquez beat Pacquiao in both of those fights. Whichever way you see those fights, it’s clear that Pacquiao had huge problems against Marquez, who seemed to have Pacquiao’s number in both of the fights.
Marquez has since been trying to get Pacquiao to give him a rematch, but hasn’t had any luck in getting him back in the ring. This would be great for boxing if Roach was able to put Marquez and Pacquiao back in the ring for a third fight to see who the better fighter is.

If Pacman fights jmm and beats him to a pulp,That to me wpuld indicate something is up with strenghth fortification,which would suggest, or at least have that smell of tampering with steroids of some type. who knows? Marquez is old, slow and has no punching power at 140 and much less at 147. Manny will kill him, and there’s no need to beat up on a senior citizen. Anyway, Marquez is just looking for a big payday, and come fight time he’s going to be another Oscar DelaHoya, beaten to a pulp.
A nice article from this writer. He did not criticize Pacquiao on this one. But then again why would he? This author thinks that JMM won the 2 previous fights and that JMM will beat Pacquiao again. JMM is the only hope remaining for the Pacquiao haters. But there is absolutely no chance of JMM beating Pacquiao. At this level and at this weight. The fight should take place at 144. When Manny KTFO of Marquez, it will send a HUGE message to Fraud Jr that he is just not at the level of Pacquiao. Both men’s fights with Hatton and Oscar are proof of that.
Marquez at 144, which Manny will fight him at, will be KO’d by Pacquiao. Once again upstaging Fraud’s bout with Marquez. Manny was already struggling with his weight at 130 when he fought Marquez. But not having to drain himself at 140 and above, the true power of Pacquiao at his natural weight shows up. Marquez wqs fighting at 126 when he fought Jaca at the age of 33, Marquez weighed in at 124 for that fight.

The cutoff date isn’t the problem its random testing. Manny will only agree to tests when he knows when they will be. And he’s been ducking JMM and thats not going to change regardless of what Roach wants. Roach wanted random testing with a cut-off date 5 days before the fight and Floyd said ok but roachs own fighter Manny wouldn’t. Arum Manny’s promoter has also tried to get him to accept random testing and he won’t.

Mayweather wants Pacquiao to be tested according to Olympic standards, for a non-Olympic sporting event, which is professional boxing. Who’s he trying to kid?! He says he wants “level playing field”. Fine. But…did Floyd require the same random blood tests for all his opponents – including De La Hoya and Juan Manuel Marquez?! So, why Pacquiao, and why now?! Why single out a Filipino fighter who’s never failed a drug test?! Don’t the “experts” see a discrepancy here?!

If the Mayweather Pacquiao bout doesn’t come off in March, this is the bout I want Pacquiao to take. Although I don’t believe Marquez is at his best above 135lbs, I still believe there is enough motivation for Marquez to give Pacquiao a lot of problems. Marquez had Pacquiao’s number throughout the majority of the first bout, and even more so in the second bout. Not to sure whether Marquez can hurt Pacquiao like he did in the lower divisions, but he is a very good counter puncher who can use Pacquiao’s aggressiveness against him.
The heavy favourite would be Pacquiao, but you never know with Marquez.

here why …..blood test and catch weight fight dont match as the day before the fight is the weigh in,so if you give blood 3 day or fight day you need to rehydrate (doctor says) eat back to normal, but if the blood test is 3 days or fight day ,you take the blood out you cant eat as 2-3 day both fighter will fast to make the catch weight,its a double whammy to rehydrate in one day. but floyd didnt want the 10 million taken out for every pound over the 147lb so was floyd wanting to cheat and not fast and come over .like his last fight,while manny would be weak from giving blood and rehydrate half way .

Plenty of athletes get caught using drugs after they have competed and won medals because their blood is taken and some of it stored and tested at later times becuase sometimes technology needs to catch up to the criminals… as is the case in most things.
The newer performance enhancing drugs dont always show up but eventually as drug tests catch up they catch the cheats.

nsac only do urine tests….they are very behind the times……if the tests are so accurate then they would have picked up that Shane Mosley was on steroids. But they didnt catch Shane Mosley out…he actually owned up to what he did. Basically urine doesnt pick up every type of drug, ecspecially not the newer more advanced designer drugs…. and the ones that do show up are flushed out of the kidneys pretty quick….drugs stay in the blood system longer than they do in urine.

First it is not Floyd rules, random testing is an olympic plus Tour de France and others rules.
Second, its not true team pacroid has trouble with receiving instructions from Mayweather: they said successively, that it was because of needles scare, then superstition, then blood scare…You have to be a fool if you cannot add up one and one.
Third there is a reason blood test is random, just as there is a reason PacROID insists not to be tested within 30 days preceeding the fight. And the reason is: HGH half-life is about 2-3 days, meaning it can disappear within 1 week from the system of the user. Practically it means, if Pacroids stopped taking HGH 1 week prior to the fight, there will be no trace in his blood if he is tested AFTER the fight (ASTUCE). This why they are insisting on that!
And by ensuring that there is no test within 30 days, they make sure the training is not disrupted the last strech of training, for the drug to be effective at D-day….
Anyone who knows about drugs KNOWS, from PACROID behaviour that he is cheating…But there is no evidence…

well he says he feels as if it weakens him mentally and physically so he would prefer not to and says he will do it after the fight and 30 days before the fight or so, i dont understand why that is a problem as he will be doing the drug test straight after the fight,if he is taking drugs they wont be going anywhere

Maybe they should stop blood testing every athlete that is scared of needles, who is supersticious and who beleives it will weaken them right? Usian Bolt has random blood tests throughout the year and was even tested during the Olympics…. it didnt weaken him, he shattered world records. Blood testing should be introduced into boxing, if anyone is scared of needles and refuses to fight then they can always get a new career. 1st…..you dont need to take and steroids on the day of the fight. Just say that you have 8 weeks to train for a fight. You can take steroids for 7 weeks, train like an animal and in the last week when training relaxes you come off them…. steriods will be out of your system, some can be out of your system in 48hours. 2nd you will still maintain the high level of fitness you have been training at while on the steroids. Why do you think Pacquiao want to be tested 30 days before the fight and then straight after the fight? because 3d…. all evidence will be gone after the fight. Now im no expert like you pointed out, but im pretty sure that is not a lame argument.

pacquiao favoured weight is 140 to 145, i feel he would be unstoppable at this point, but their is nobody their worth challenging so he steps up in weight and manages to retain his speed and increase his power due to gaining this added weight. whats so hard to believe about this!

Based on the PBF fight JMM cannot compete effectively at anything over lightweight. Pac has shown he can compete at welter and even if he drops down to 140 the fight would still be one sided.A fight with Foreman would probably be more entertaining, though admittedly Pac vs. JMM would be a bigger payday.
supreme court he cant fight mosely/berto because they are already fighting at the end of jan. He’s looking for a march opponent and his options are pretty limited. I’de like to see him fight at 154 against martinez or at 147 against williams. If he wont fight those 2 ide settle for a fight with bradley at 140. If the mayweather fight falls apart i’de pay for any of those 3, any others im not so sure.

This fight is another non starter as marquez has openly said he would request the same blood test as mayweather has plus with pac sueing goldon boy i cant see it happning.
