by Jason Alcairo: According to news from Yahoo sports and as also reported in the Las Vegas Review Journal, the oft-cancelled potential mega fight between top ranked Pound for Pound fighters world Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr is once again off. Mediation went on for 9 hours yesterday but no conclusion was reached and this morning, neither fighter was present at the actual mediation. A revised proposal was given to both fighters, with Mayweather being the one to disagree. The stipulations in the new proposal is at the time unknown.
This leaves both fighters to take on 2 opponents in the meanwhile until they can decide when they finally want to get together and fight. Pacquiao is more than likely going to be taking a fight with WBA Jr Middleweight champion Yuri Foreman, with Mayweather potentially facing either Matthew Hatton of the UK (chuckle) or former IBF Jr. welterweight champ Paulie Malignaggi.
Many boxing fans feel that the blood test demand by Mayweather is unwarranted. What is also grinding the gears of the same fans is that Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer gave very vocal support to the blood tests after refusing to agree to Shane Mosley undergoing blood tests for a potential fight against Zab Judah that never materialized in 2008. According to a press release at the time, Pacquiao can be found in an interview following his 2005 loss to Erik Morales discussing the mental effects of having his blood drawn within 48 hours of the bout. According to him, he was informed that his blood documentation had been lost and he would have to give another sample.Having his blood removed in such an artificial way left him feeling weak. Even Morales had said that his punches didn’t hurt after beating Pacquiao by decision.This lead to the disagreement between the frequency and cutoff date for the blood tests.
This author’s personal opinion is riddled with frustration and a little bit of confusion. First off, if this is some sort of terribly conceived plan to keep on hyping up the fight, I’d rather they didn’t. This fight has continually demonstrated that it sells itself. If the lawsuit or PED allegations were meant to increase the drama, then I would consider it overkill. However, if this fight really, really, REALLY is off, then the lawsuit should go on as planned. Manny’s honor was besmirched by baseless accusations, and no, he doesn’t have anything to hide by refusing to take the tests no matter what the Floyd fan boys tell you. Manny’s refusal to test isn’t an attempt to hide any potential chemical transgressions so much as it’s his way of standing his ground and refusing to bend to Mayweather’s will and demands. All too often, people will throw the basic right to innocence until proven guilty out the window. The Mayweathers haven’t so much as presented a single shred of evidence to support their allegations, and the minute that the whispers of steroid use surround an athlete,the results could be costly. Pacquiao wasn’t like a baseball player who could barely hit the fence and then suddenly started crushing balls over the stadium walls left and right. He stopped shrinking himself down to make the lower weights and trained himself against pain while fully optimizing his body’s ability to produce his destruction of Ricky Hatton last May and Miguel Cotto in November. Simply put, Pacquiao is a killing machine powered by rice and fish.
Mayweather’s refusal to accept any sort of compromise leads me to believe that his 0 truly is more important to him than 40+ million dollars. To think that both sides have been capable of blowing through several months of anticipation with nothing to show for it is downright aggravating. I hope Pacquiao would pick a better opponent than Foreman,but perhaps in the future he can take on the winner of Mosley-Berto.

What’s the deal with taking the test before the fight? Manny stated that blood tests make him feel weak. It’s a psyche thing. Period. If the issue is he’s using drugs, he agreed to take the test 24 days before the fight and after the fight itself…Clearly, pac’s not hiding anything as he’s gonna jeopardize himself if found traces of drugs on the fight night. You dont suggest that after the fight the drugs automatically vaporizes itself. And PBF is a firm NO no matter what…who do you think is running away?
Fact is:
FLOYD’S afraid to lose the zero in his 40-0 record. Can’t you just get it? Making a demand he never did with other opponents before? At least, the other camp’s demand for a fine if he goes overweight is based on what Floyd did with his fight with JMM.

Process of Logic:
- Manny went down to 24 from 30 days before.
- Mayweather refused but countered 14 days.
- People accuse that some PED’s can go away in a day after not using it and this is what Pacman coud possibly be on.
Conclusion:
If it only takes a day for this UNKNOWN drug to completely leave the body then even the 14 days that Mayweather is asking is deemed pointless too isn’t it?
If there is one person here who still hasn’t saw the video of Pac trying to explain what happened after the 1st Morales fight then maybe you should then start processing the thought. If you have experienced something that you think contributed to a poor performance, wouldn’t you do everything in you power to avoid that situation again especially in the most highest of stages that you fight???
And lastly, just with all honesty to all Pacquiao accusers, who amongst you here actually thought that he was on PED’s before Mayweather Sr. started blabbing his mouth?

It’s unofrtunate that Floyd have surrounded himself with self loathing yes men. It would be nice to have men of wisdom guiding them. That’s another story.
If this is to hype the fight, they are nuts, this fight needs no hype. If this is Floyds way of getting under Manny’s skin, he forgot to figure in Freddie. Freddie dont play. Its a stupid accusation, and more a stupid request.
I think Floyd is scared, and more. I think that if the fight goes off, you are gonna see some dirty tactics by Floyd.
And bottom line, it seems the general public is on Manny’s side, so guess what Floyd, it backfired. You are a great fighter, one of the best. But this is bush

Manny fought Barrera when Barrera was the P4P.
Manny fought Morales when Morales had only lost to Barrera. Manny fought Marquez when everyone was afraid to fight him.
Manny fought Hatton when his only loss was to Mayweather, and when he was the bigger man, and after Hatton destroyed Malignaggi.
Manny fought Cotto, who was a legitimate Welterweight with severe power. You can say he was damaged goods, but then I’d have to go find your comments from before their fight and find out who you picked to win.
Manny fought De La Hoya, who fought a close fight with Floyd Jr. and beat Forbes convincingly. Sure he came down in weight to 142, but guess what? He was fighting cats like Gatti, Mosley, and Quartay around 147. And Manny has dehydrated himself 12-15 pounds to make weight almost his entire career (look it up).
Don’t for one second act like Manny doesn’t deserve his accolade. He handled Hatton and De La Hoya in a much more convincing manner than Floyd Jr. and that’s about all the comparison you need to look at right now. Floyd didn’t do anything to either of those guys to damage their face, mind, or hearts. Hatton came right back with a win, and De La Hoya did too.

When Floyd is 40 or so or has suffered a devasting knockout by someone else than Manny might fight him… Manny has been picking up Floyds scraps and a damaged shell of Cotto… thats why Floyd is the bigger draw… double the PPVs against de la hoya… more PPVs against Hatton… over 1 million against a JMM who beat Pacman twice and neither fight was deemed worthy of PPV…Manny has never even fought at welterweight yet is moving up again instead of fighting a good opponent… has pacquiao EVER defended any title?? Floyd is a scared man. He drummed this BS up to avoid dealing with a scrappy Pacquiao. So, no its back to hand-picked fights for Floyd, fights that he cant possibly lose. Of course I want to see the fight. More people than ever in the history of boxing want to see it. The reason they will get as much money as they claim they will get is because of the fans watching, nobody else.
However, if you think either of these camps are above mind games you’re crazy. It may turn out that Team Mayweather never saw the Morales video (though I am using deductive reasoning to guess that they did), it was Team Mayweather who added the clause. They weren’t standing firm. They were nodding their head “yes,” while the early negotiations were taking place, waiting until the deal was just about wrapped up to drop their final clause (notice it was once Arum got enthusiastic?).
I want the fight to happen, but I don’t like smear campaigns in politics, sports, or in my personal life. I have to go on the premise that Manny is innocent until proven guilty. And in this case there isn’t even evidence to charge the poor guy with. If they found a needle in his locker, some drugs in his duffle bag, a lost video of him doping, that would be one thing, but when all of this is based on a semi-deranged old man with a criminal past and nothing to lose named Floyd Sr., it makes me disappointed in boxing fans to subscribe to the nonsense.
It makes Manny Pacquiao disappointed too. If he turns out to be innocent, and has an asterisk next to his career for no reason, will you give a damn about Manny’s legacy? Or will you have moved onto the next commodity? I have an emotional connection to Manny, and that is largely why he is so popular. He is modest, humble, religious, and a humanitarian (not saying Floyd doesn’t give back to his community, just citing Manny’s perception).
The bigger question is, if this fight doesn’t happen, why are both going for “interim” fights? They could replace one another with someone like Mosley. Why go for a tune up fight? Could it be because they have a plan to meet this fall already, and this entire stunt is intended to drive up interest going into the late months of the year?
Explain the replacement fighters will you? Do you really believe Floyd Jr. will fight Matthew Hatton because he has always dreamed of fighting for his UK fans? Do you really think Foreman is anything other than a statistic padder for Manny?

Steriods do one thing … make tissure grow faster= more muscle mass . BUt it also makes you short on wind … not a god thing for boxers . Why do you think the guys geting caught using steriods in boxing have been on the LOOSING SIDE
What you have to do to move up in weight is use long term Anabolic steroids ( these versions stay in your system for months) then countract the lack of endurace created by the long term anabolic steriods witha drug called EPO ( or a EPO based derivitive) this allows your bodys red blood cells to absorb more oxygen and increase endurance to what you had normally … problem is BOTH stay in your system like glue. Short term(waterbased) steroids deplete MORE endurance and need MORE EPO. THE 24 DAY PERIOD PACQUIAO AGREED TO WOULDNT BE NEARLY LONG ENOUGH. This is why PEDS havnt become rampant in boxing which has always been crooked . If it had gains(big) Boxing would have had EVERYONE doing it YEARS ago . the EPO/ steriods do NOT make you Superman.. My family Is freakishly strong and athlectic Ive done this before . It helps but Nothing to write home about . WAY overrated . they Could blood dope(add anouther pint of blood to your system but then it has to be done the day of the fight and he could get caught afterwards ( maybe ? close call) it add NO muscle mass for PACQUIO to make weight . makes no sence for him to blood dope . . I should add, where you say Team Mayweather was not aware of the video or intel about Manny being weak before the Morales fight, I think the opposite. I think they absolutely WERE aware, why else request random blood testing which could produce the very same scenario?
Where the psychology gets complicated is here: Did Mayweather request the testing to rile Pacquiao and force his emotions to get the better of him, thus filing his lawsuit, thus pulling out of the offer from GBP? Or did Mayweather add his “little clause” at the 11th hour in the hopes that Manny would accept without question and potentially come into the fight with a disadvantage?
If you don’t believe me that Mayweather knew about the Morales situation before he went into negotiations, consider these points:
1) Mayweather Sr. comes out right after his fighter (Hatton) is annihilated by Pacquiao with the implication that Manny has to be on drugs to be that strong. This seed was well-planted and would serve Floyd Jr. well in the months to come.
2) The rate at which Floyd Jr. agreed to the terms of the fight was staggering. He seemed well content to accept a 50/50 split (something he vehemently refused to accept before the negotiations began). He had no issues moving the fight two months earlier, despite a severely truncated prep and training window. Something wasn’t right, and something was brewing.
3) It wasn’t until Team Pacquiao, Bob Arum included, accepted all of these terms that Team Mayweather added the “oh, I forgot, got to do the testing,” that the deal began to break apart. Couple this with strategically placed smear tactics including Oscar de la Hoya himself posting on his website his timely suspicions about Manny’s punching power. As if to say, “Gee, I hadn’t thought of it before, but now that Floyd Sr. mentions it, Manny WAS a suspiciously strong puncher. Now the steroids would explain it.” Forget the fact that DLH himself shrugged off Manny’s punching power just months earlier.
All of this adds up to a big steaming pile of bait-and-switch, where the antagonist comes of at amenable up until the very last moment, then pulls out his baton when you’re looking away to clobber you over the head with it. It’s a trash move, a rabbit punch, a low blow, and I am glad that Team Pacquiao stood by there convictions and refused to humor the baseless accusations thrown their way.
It is a shame Team Mayweather had to resort to such character assassinations against a fighter who, up until Floyd Sr’s. conspiracy theories hit the airwaves, was regarded as the best clean fighter in the sport.
If you don’t want to agree with that, find me ONE article, forum post, newsgroup message or letter discussing this supposed “insider information” that Manny was on something before Floyd Sr’s. post-Hatton commentary.

You actually have a point, though I don’t believe Mayweather feared for his own safety when he asked for the testing. It was a strategy move, a diversionary tactic to break up the negotiations.
As far as Team Pacquiao and his promoters, absolutely they should have put that video out loud and proud. But considering the fact that, when asked about Pacquiao’s recorded physical exam “14 days” (truthfully 24 days) before the fight on HBO’s “24/7″, Aram was not even aware that video was ever recorded.
At the end of the day, however, the fault lies with Team Mayweather and Floyd Jr. himself (who still has not come out and spoken on the matter), who both decided it would be better to taint his opponent’s legacy than defend his own.

Why hasn’t a anyone else said anything about the PED? If Floyd’s camp and Floyd’s fans are the only ones that think he is taking drugs; then why doesn’t anyone else agree. No other trainers, no other boxers (except paulie-who has a big mouth), and no Dr. has agreed with them, not to mention the yearly blood tests dont agree. Even Cotto hasn’t said anything. He admits that Pcaman is great and a strong fighter. Do any of you know the symptoms of PED? Pac has none of them.
I myself dont think that Manny is on drugs. However if he has nothing to hide, for a fight of this magnitude.. why not just get the tests done and out of the way n let the fight happen?
Even if Manny agreed to random blood testing, Floyd’s next requests would be:
1. His right hand is stronger and faster compared to his old fights, maybe he’s got a bionic arm. Both of us should undergo random arm x-ray.
2. His chin is very strong compared to the time when he was knocked out when he was a young kid.Maybe he’s got an implanted metal jaw. Both of us should undergo jaw x-ray.
3. He can take body punches from strong opponents and he’s got quick leg movements, maybe he is a robot.
4. He is not scared to attack even against the stronger and bigger opponents, maybe he’s got an implanted brain chip that can control fear and Roach is controlling him like a video game player with a joystick. We should undergo random brain scan or MRI.
It will never end. All of these excuses will only mean one thing.

That point of view is utterly misfounded – Manny’s side could just have easily said “yeah fine we’ll do the random tests” and the fight would have been on.
Floyds side didn’t know they’d refuse. If he wanted to avoid the fight he would have said fight at 154 or use 10 oz gloves – he wouldn’t have chosen something Manny could easily have agreed to, it doesn’t make sense.

Im suprised by how split the opinions are on this subject. Some thinking Mayweather has done this on purpose to get out of the fight, some saying Pacmans unwillingness to do the tests is near to proof of his guilt.
My personal opinion is that Pacmans rise has been phenominal and the roids issue does cross the mind but you do get these one offs in sport, look at Usain Bolt, Micheal Schmaker, Phil Taylor, On another level. I dont think he uses the drugs.

It is about time that boxers are subjected to Olympic style testing. There are cheats in cycling, athletics, rugby, football, and every other sport you can think of. You mean to tell me that there are no cheats in boxing????? Top athletes all over the world are being tested on this basis. Come on Pacquiao. Does he really think that 20ml of blood is going to weaken him? If he doesn’t want to subject himself to proper testing, he shouldn’t be allowed to fight anybody anywhere. If you read the report on ESPN which most likely is very accurate ,Floyd refused to accept the blood testing limit of 24 days prior to fight offered by the other camp. This was the same number of days the blood test was done for the Pac-Hatton fight. I totally agree that Floyd Senior’s behaviour is extremely unprofessional and legally is slanderous. He’s stupid for actually stating in public that he believes Manny has abused PEDs. But that doesn’t alter the fact that random blood testing is the most reliable way to ensure he doesn’t abuse PEDs in the run up to this fight. Its not a complicated arguement and if his side had agreed the fight would be on. Floyds side didn’t know he wouldn’t agree before hand – that was Manny’s call.
Manny is a feared puncher from 122-147 that’s 26 pounds or 6 modern division. This is not the norm, but the exception. By taking ‘random’ tests and only random tests Manny could have ended the suspiction.
It looks like both Schaefer and Al Haymon were pushing Floyd to make the deal, which means they, too, agreed that the random test with a 24-day cutoff and one extra test right after the fight is a fair compromise.

Power is the first thing you have and the lat thing to go away. Manny move up in weight and fight bigger stronger fighter and along the way increases his KO% 30%. Against the MAB, Erik Morales, Oscar, Hatton, Cotto.
Not counting the JMM fight in which JMM got knock down 5 times in two fight fights, but got up. Only survived cause he is a great fighter.

What other division did Manny clean up? He did not clean up 130 as he only fought return fights against super feather at 130. He could have fought Guzman, Valero and Soto. At 135 he fought one guy. At 140 he fought 1 guy. At 147 a damaged Cotto and a retired Oscar.

how do you define boxers in their prime? These are boxers that gets the limelight, these are the boxers that have currently big win over lose ratio. Morales, Barrera, when they fought Pac, they still win big fights, however they were just put into retirement by Pac and people think they are not in their prime.Marquez after losing to Pac, he still fought and win KO before he fought Mayweather @144lbs. Oscar too was in the same case with Morales and Barrera. Hatton was put into a traumatic stage by Pac in a divison he was considered a champ. Cotto have 2 wins before he fought Pac. So you must say they are still in their “prime”. So how’d you consider Edwin Valero, he is wining KO of all his fights but he was still not considered in prime because he was not in the limelight or big paydays. ALmost all of Pac opponents felt Pacs power and they were thinking to retire thats why you and other people thought they were not in thier prime anymore.

That is because Manny started to fighted at 106, a weight beyond his walking weight, with that saying, he is dehydrated before not like now which he is very much comfortable. Also, if you are dehydrated, you punch a little bit weaker compared to punches you throw when you are in comfortable level, but Manny still managed to knockout many opponents, so it is no wonder his knoockout rate now is higher. enuf said. Not how and why YOU think Floyd is better. Give me some proof of where a professional has done the tests on Manny for ANYTHING. Like I’ve said in a previous comment, ‘I could care less whether Manny’s on GLUE, HGH or EPO’. I haven’t read anywhere and I know no one else has either that a professional such as a Doctor or Specialist states that there’s unknown chemicals or drugs in Mr.Pacquiao’s system. Until that day happens, I’ll keep commenting on the facts. I may veer off somedays but hey, what can I say. I’m a passionate fan and I’ll stand up for what I feel is a sham for a fighter with Manny’s rep as a ‘good guy’. It’s not the Floyd Mayweather Commission it’s the state of Nevada that is in charge of what the pre-requisites are to fight in their state. Period ! End of the excuses for both sides. It started by accusations and requests by you know who and his crew. So what have they produced to provide the reasons WHY Manny should take tests beyond what is expected… HOLY, I must sound like a broken record…

anyone thinking manny is on steroids is nothing more than a mayweather zombie sheep. he got you to think exactly what he wanted you to think. he created a diversion while finding a way out of the fight, a fight he feels is too risky for his untarnished record. the whole testing stuff is a ruse. especially with articles from USADA stating tests for substances like HGH actually don’t work at all, and only just recently have they found a test to find them, using URINALYSIS.
manny never said no to testing, he agreed to urine testing any time any place, and even on fight night. he just does not want blood taken close to the fight, period.
i would say manny’s stubbornness is a product of pride and principle. he should not have to agree to new rules from mayweather. drug testing should not be a negotiation point anyhow, it undermines the boxing commissions by which fighters abide. if the system is broken in your mind, go in front of the board and make your case.
but it’s all moot, because the whole thing was a ruse to begin with. if you can’t see that then you either 1) hate pacquiao and want to see him fail, or; 2) are so blinded by floyd and his team’s antics that attempting to make you see the truth would be as futile as giving the devil a snow cone.

Honestly i think, boxing has to create a system, where base on that system (ranking/p4p/etc/etc) you have to fight that “chosen boxer” i don`t like the fact that you can decide who you fight, i believe it should be “scheduled and planned”

What a diservice to the fans and this great sport. I’m not a Mayweather fan but I think his skills alone would beat Pacman. Even if Pacman was on “something” I don’t think it would matter. Look what Oscar did to Vargas and Mosley. I feel Mayweather has a little doubt in his mind. It’s a pysch job he’s pulling on Manny by all these allegations. People are forgetting that pacquiao has agreed to take the olympic style test right after the fight. not before for obvious reasons…blood drawing of that style requires fasting of both food and fluids the night before which can throw a fighters schedule off. The fact that the mayweather camp refused mannys counter proves that floyd is worried about his undefeated record.

I know it sounds impossible to most well…maybe not but, I think we as fans under-estimate how important that 0 is for Floyd.
