Mayweather could face Cintron, Malignaggi, Campbell or Bradley next – News

By Eric Thomas: According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr. could be facing a number of potential boxing opponents such as Nate Campbell, Paulie Malignaggi, Kermit Cintron and Timothy Bradley. One opponent that Mayweather won’t be fighting is Matthew Hatton. Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer said there was no truth in the rumors that Mayweather was considering a fight with the younger Hatton brother.
Of course, it would take a good opponent for Mayweather for that to happen. He can’t just fight anyone and expect to take away viewers from Pacquiao’s fight with Clottey. Schaefer says that they could fight on March 14th, a Sunday night so that they don’t compete with the Pacquiao-Clottey fight. That wouldn’t be an ideal night for a fight, however. HBO would have to go along with this idea for that date to work.
The list that is being considered by Mayweather might not be good enough for him to take away a large percentage of fans from the Pacquiao bout, however. Bradley would seem to be the best fighter of the bunch, but he’s not well known by casual boxing fans, even though he’s got the best record and is considered to be the best fighter in the light welterweight division by many boxing fans at this time.
Mayweather is bigger than both Campbell and Malignaggi, and it’s hard to see these fights as anything more than a dreadful mismatch. Cintron would give Mayweather some problems with his power, but Cintron looked bad in his fight with Sergio Martinez last year, and he was destroyed by Antonio Margarito in 2008. Cintron might be the best opponent out of that list, apart from Bradley, but I’d much prefer to see Mayweather considering fighters like Sergio Martinez, Paul Williams or Carlos Quintana to fight instead of Cintron, Campbell and Malignaggi.
If Mayweather gets by his March opponent, then he will be looking to fight the winner of the Andre Berto vs. Shane Mosley fight which takes place on January 30th of this month. Although Pacquiao reportedly wants to fight the winner of that fight as well, you would have to think that Mayweather would have the edge in getting the winner – if it’s Mosley – because he and Mosley are both with Golden Boy Promotions.

yea thats the problem ,, that ther are fights we the fans want to see , p williams is out of the picture kus your right stan13 it wont happen, cintron is a good one for mayweather, i like boxing period, and i really would want mayweather to face someone who presses through out the fight, i want to see more from floyd , more than just technical and pressision boxing show me some warrior engagments .
There’s no way Mayweather fights Williams! Paul Williams should not even be seriously mentioned here, without it coming from Floyd’s camp. I would love to see it too; but it simply is not going to happen ever!
Out of the possible opponents mentioned Floyd better fight Cintron. I’d say Bradley, but with his Showtime ties it won’t happen either (plus he is smaller too). If Mayweather and Golden Boy want to compete with the Pac-Clottey PPV, Cintron is the one to choose out of the serious opponents mentioned. Campbell & Malinaggi are again smaller, inferior fighters; and “boxing fans” (at least this one) would rather see Pac-Clottey.
To be honest if both fights are legitimate I will buy the one that is not on HBO PPV. The one that appears on HBO PPV, will be replayed a week later on HBO.
first of all im both manny and floyd’s fan as im a boxin fan.. and they are both exceprional boxer, jst wif differnt styles… i reckon mayweather wil not fight march, id rather wait 4 mosley and they can do it either april or may.. den the winner fights manny hopfully…

First of all I am tired of hearing people bash Mayweather. When he beat Corrales people were talking about how great he was, when he made ab Judah’s face look like taco meat people said he was unstoppable. When he beat De La Hoya people talk about him being the best pound for pound fighter ever. Now that Pacquiao beat De La Hoya (who moved down in weight and looked like a zombie) Hatton (who is really not that good) Cotto ( who hasn’t been the same since losing to Margarito and in my opinion Clottey too). Pacquiao fought and beat fighters at the end of their careers, Morales, Barrera, De La Hoya. Why didn’t Pacquiao fight Mosley or Williams. Mayweather tried to make the fight with Mosley on 2 different occasions. I believe that Mayweather will fight Williams on March 13 and I’d rather see them fight than Pacquiao vs Clottey. Why would he fight Martinez when he just got beat by Williams? When is Arum gonna stop matching fighters within his stable up and put them up against other fighters? In my opinion Clottey will give Pacquiao more problems then people expect.
ryan chivalry would have been taking blood test since you got date you wanted 50/50 split like you wanted ring size glove size and 10 mill per pound clause if mayweather was over weight.
pacman is fighting clotty why is he not fighing williams or martinez or mosley he is in the same weightclass. why is he walking away from a mayweather fight over a blood test. why are all his apponents coming off losses. cotto delahoya hatton. if he wins clotty fight he is going to fight margarito. another fighter who came off big loss. but no one is saying anything about that.

FMJ needs to fight Williams or Martinez. Give yourself a real challenge while the top 147lb fighter are already fighting each other. Don’t fight guys who are smaller or slower than you. The worst thing in life is wasted talent.

Pacquiao vs Clottey can be good, I wouldn’t sleep on Clottey because in my opinion he beat Cotto. But at the time Pacquiao vs Cotto sounded better than Pacquiao vs Clottey. Plus Clottey is a very strong fighter with pretty good defence and a chin like a rock. For Mayweather to out do the Pacquiao vs Clottey bout he will have to choose an opponent that has the skills to actually beat him and give him problems, and that fighter is not Mosley, Cintron, Bradley, or Campbell, its Paul Williams. This guy is considered the most avoided fighter in boxing. On the undercard Marquez vs Malignaggi and a Angulo vs Cintron rematch would no doubt blow Pacquiao’s PPV away. Mayweather vs Williams or Pacquiao vs Clottey? I’d rather see Mayweather vs Williams and I know other fans would too!!

Sean Floyds Pain killer by far is greater than Pac’s alledge roid use. Pacs has tested negative every time so there’s no proof. Mayweather on the other hand uses this drug and would lose if he didn’t use this substanse. His hands would be in pain and wouldn’t be able to keep a powerful pressure fighter like Pac off him. So he needs his hands to be numb so he’s not distracted by pain. Boxing is 50% mental if you have distractions you will lose just as Margarito when he was caught cheating. He wasn’t worried about Mosley he was worried about his punishment.
I see a lot of comments on the Xylocaine issue. I know this comes from Pac fans, but honestly, do we really think its fair to compare a numbing agent on the hands to the use of steroids. I don’t believe it is. Additionally, this info seems to have come out only after the failed negotiations and Manny’s refusal to submit to testing. I know this seems like a great opportunity to save some face if youre a Pac fan, but come on. I think Pacquiao is a pretty good fighter and i believe Mayweather is a bit more than cautious, but Pac should have taken the test and squashed any rumors, and maybe then squash Mayweather. I believe, however, that if given the choice: Manny tests for steroids, and no Xylocaine for you VS No test for Manny and you use your Xylocaine, we all know what the answer would be. So lets be rational with our arguments and stop with the weak ass Xylocaine talk.

Mayweather will never fight Williams. If you look at the dictionary the meaning of COWARD, you will see MAYWEATHER. PBF will only fight either Mat Hatton or Paula Malirunner. Don’t expect Mayweather to fight great fighters, you will surely be disappointed. See what happened to the greatest fight of this era.
This is so humorous. I’m sure GBP saw all the blogs flying around of how Mayweather’s next fight vs. Malignaggi or Hatton would be a huge disappointment. Then Pac goes and gets Clottey. Hah Floyd’s so screwed.
I guess now we will see who’s the real PPV draw. We all know it’s Manny but Fraud Maychicken and his fans think it otherwise. GBP is still scrambling who’s gonna be an easy opponent for Fraud. By the way, GBP made a statement that any boxer who fights boxers from the GBP stable will have to submit to the Olympic style drug testing. Let’s see if they will hold on to their own words.
If the events will happen on same date, at least we have a the option. If you wanna see an exciting fight that goes toe-to-toe, go and watch Pac vs Clottey. Should you want to watch “dancing with the stars”, go and watch Ducker Floyd and whoever they’ll pit on him.

The best opponent for Mayweather is Paul Williams, bar none. If he really wants a shot at stealing viewers from Pacquiao, a fight with Williams is his best option. Williams is very dangerous at 147 and has rightfully earned the “most avoided fighter” moniker. Being much bigger, younger, busier, and more durable than any of Mayweather’s opponents, Williams could beat Mayweather. Mayweather must know this to be true. . . and that is why this fight will never happen.

I think the Date was a GBP date since they are pretty much in bed with MGM. I would have loved be at Vegas for the Manny fight but I guess Dallas it is. I want to see that damn stadium too. No Gambling and night life though. oh well…..
THE PACQUIO-CLOTTEY FIGHT IS NOT BAD, CLOTTEY IS ONE TOUGH FIGHTER,although he lost to Cotto,it showed that he can fight. Mayweather vs Malignaggi? Hahhha..Lol…it will be a joke. Floyd has to fight an opponent that has at least a chance of beating him, not Paulie. Floyd should fight Bradley or Cintron this march, no one else. I don’t think we should put Paul Williams on the list, because we all know Mayweather doesn’t want to fight him. I hope Mayweather vs. Bradley. At least Bradley will give Floyd a good fight for the fans to see, otherwise boxing fans will only be watching the Pacquio-Clottey fight.

It’s funny that Floyd is trying to steal this date now, when it was a date Manny put on the table so he could run for congress through May. Instead of taking a May fight (the original window for the Pac/May fight), Team Mayweather and GBP are trying to steal Manny’s thunder.
