Mayweather and Pacquiao camps to meet with mediator on Tuesday
By Sean McDaniel: In a last ditch effort to save the March 13th mega fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, an outside mediator, retired judge Daniel Weinstein, will meet with Top Rank, and Mayweather’s management team to try and overcome the stalemate in the negotiations for the fight. Weinstein, who previously helped work out a problem between Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions in 2007, has to find a way to solve the dispute over the drug testing.
Mayweather asked for blood testing to be done for the fight despite the Nevada Athletic Commission, who oversees the bout, only asking for urine tests. Pacquiao and Top Rank feel as if they’re being pushed around by Mayweather with the extra blood tests, and don’t want to take more than the three blood tests that Pacquiao has already agreed upon. Unfortunately, this is the sticking point.
Mayweather hasn’t shown any signs of backing down on his request for blood tests inside the 30 day window, and Pacquiao is just as firm not to take any more than those three. Both fighters agree to the random urine tests. At stake for the fight is a possible $40 million for each fighter if they can come to an agreement.
In addition to the problems with the blood testing methods, Pacquiao has filed a lawsuit filed against Floyd Mayweather Jr., Floyd Sr., Roger Mayweather, Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer for defamation. If this fight is to go forward, the mediator will likely have to work on getting this suit dropped, because it might make it difficult for the two fighters to come to an agreement if this lawsuit is still pending.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has a back-up plan of matching Pacquiao against World Boxing Association light middleweight champion Yuri Foreman if the mediation process fails. This obviously would be a huge letdown for boxing fans who were hoping that Pacquiao would face Mayweather or at the very least a better known fighter like Shane Mosley. However, Pacquiao wants to try and collect an 8th world title, and if he can beat Foreman, this would give Pacquiao’s his 8th title. Many boxing fans on the internet have been less than thrilled with the prospect of seeing this fight, because many of them see Foreman as the weaker of the light middleweight champions. They also wonder whether Foreman, the champion, would have to fight Pacquiao at a catch weight while still having his title on the line for the bout.
As for Mayweather, there has been talk about him facing British fringe welterweight contender Matthew Hatton, the younger brother of Ricky Hatton. That, too, hasn’t been a fight that boxing fans have been thrilled about.

For boxing fans, records tells us that in all boxing fights the Nevada State Athletic Commission is the agency authorized by boxing to test fighters on drug related issues in the US, for years it has been the NASC way of testing boxers, in fact mayweather’ camp have always abide by these rules come face pacman, floyd now is chickening out and is demanding on his own terms blood extracting tests, pacquiao’ camp was so humble enough to offer floyd three ways of blood tests even not required by the the NASC and the usual random urine testing, it seems floyd is using all reasons too to avoid humiliation from pacman, what a bruhahahha
Lets put things straight… manny never rejected any drug test or is he afraid of needles(he has tattoos all over his body), this is a misconception and misleads ignorant boxing fans, for the record manny subjected himself to NASC random drug test right after this drug test issue exploded, second manny agreed to a three random blood testing… 1st before the fights media conference, 2nd 30 days prior to the fight and 3rd right after fight night (these tests cannot escape pacman if ever he is using PED) eventhough these are not required by the NASC, manny’s camp was so humble that it offered these terms to mayweather’ camp even the latter is not a champion, however floyd was so hardheaded he insists on his own terms and even humiliates pacman over unwarranted media hype, pacman is a true sportsman and has never been found positive in using performance enhancing drugs in all his fights, he live a clean life all his boxing career (unlike the mayweathers who had been invovled in doping issues esp mayweather sr.) now whats the fuzz? it only brings us to reason… floyd is afraid of pacman he is chickening out and is using all reasons for a great escape!
….then sues pacman for attempting to sue!
somebody says that Pacquiao has taken PED (Pinoy Enhancement Drugs) balut, lumpia & San Miguel Beer. That’s why he is so strong. lol
@Kyle
Just like Mayweather you got aids… And we all believe it even when if we have no evidence!
How does that feel moron?
Pacman does not need to follow some blood testing not mandated by the Nevada Athletic commission. He has nothing to hide. This trial by public opinion just backfired on Mayweather cause it just revealed how many diehard fans the Pacman has all over the world. If you read across news items and fan comments written about this issue, Pac fans appear to outnumber PBF fans 2 to 1… by conservative estimates. This fight will proceed. Common sense will prevail.
No fight no money for PBF. Lawsuit equals payments in millions for damages. That’s minus in PBF’s bank account which he sesperately needs.
Manny will be asked to drop his principles and think about the money. So in this case, he should agree to all that was asked and take the 60-40 split. That should pay for the lawsuit and acomodate the drug testing which he will agree on tighter time frame not a random one before the fight.
Manny drops principle and Mayweather has to drop the love for money. Sounds fair to me.
Pacquiao already agreed to a blood test immediately after the fight in addition to 2 others. How long does PED’s take to wear out not to show in blood tests? If the Pac is on some kind of PED for the fight and is tested positive immediately after, it would be more embarrassing, humiliating and discrediting for him as the case with Margarito. I think the Mayweather camp is aware that blood drawing weakens Pacquiao mentally, if not physically and wants to use it to their advantage.
floyd is afraid of manny and manny is afraid of floyd thats why this fight will never happen the boxers dont want it
HBO can end this by only featuring fighters who pass random blood tests. HBO can then claim credit for taking a step forwad to cleaning the sport. We all know GBP fighters will adhere to the rules.
Mayweather keeps on screaming that he’ll win no matter what’s going on and this fight couldn’t be easier. Well then shut ur mouth, and get in the ring. This whole song and dance has been a joke from the beginning. Lets leave the drug testing to the doctors, and the fighting to the fighters. I really don’t need the genius opinion of Dr. Mayweather on the subject of drugs, and urine tests vs blood tests. I tend to stick with dr’s who have graduated high school.
No amount of negotiation will make this fight to happen if one fighter is not willing to fight. HBO holds the key to this fight!
the fight will go ahead, this is just to hype up the fight.
january4 2010 1.15pm maybe could have fight
