Margarito should be allowed to fight on Pacquiao-Clottey undercard

By Esteban Garduno: Former WBA welterweight champion Antonio Margarito (37-6, 27 KO’s) should be allowed to get his boxing license back and fight on the undercard of the March 13th fight between WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey at the Dallas Cowboy stadium, in Arlington, Texas. Margarito has done his time, paid his price for the foreign substance that was found on his hand wraps a year ago before his January 24th fight against Shane Mosley.
Margarito has paid his price during this time with all the criticism that has been heaped on this talented fighter and he deserves to get a second chance. Besides, I believe Margarito when he says he didn’t know about anything foreign being put on his hand wraps. He’s always been a straight shooter and I think Margarito is telling the truth about this.
If some boxing fans or writers have a problem with Margarito fighting again, then that’s just too bad. Margarito has done his time and deserves to fight again. I’m counting on Margarito fighting on the undercard of the Pacquiao-Clottey fight. He’s scheduled to fight Carson Jones on the undercard as long as he receives his license by the Texas boxing commission.
I’m looking forward to that fight a great deal even more than the dull Pacquiao vs. Clottey fight. I could care less about that mismatch. Margarito is the fighter I want to see. I think he’s going to destroy Jones, and after that Margarito’s promoter Bob Arum needs to set him up with a fight against Pacquiao.
That will be a great fight. Pacquiao and Margarito is the best fight out there except for the Mayweather fight. Margarito won’t be a hard fight to negotiate for Pacquiao because he won’t ask for blood tests like Mayweather. Arum should be able to set this fight as easy as cake. I think Margarito beats the stuffing out of Pacquiao in a one-sided fight.
This would be taking candy from a baby. Margarito would be a huge headache for Pacquiao because of his nonstop punching style and his huge heart. As long as Margarito comes into the fight in shape, and Pacquiao doesn’t resort to clinching all night long like Mosley did in his win against Antonio, then I see Margarito winning.

Margarito should be given a lifetime ban from sanctioned boxing. It isn’t just cheating; it is making an already risky profession downright life-threatening.

What the hell are you talking about! Setting up a fight with Margarito and pacquiao. Why would pac even want that fight. Margarito has a lot to prove coming back from his suspension and he hasnt earned a big pay day like he will receive if he gets a fight with the Pacman. He doesnt deserve it yet. First go give my boy Cotto a rematch without his wraps. See how different that outcome is! Then maybe but intill then not chance getting a fight with the Pound for Pound champ!!!
So if a fighter cheats and puts a fellow professionals life at risk he gets rewarded by $10 million or more to fight P4P no. 1. What a load of crap. And anyone who believes Margarito didnt know is damn right stupid, he’s been a pro for 15 years, he knew all too well. He did say the hand wraps didnt feel any different, which is basically him admitting he’s done it his whole life. Resto was banned for life and so should Margarito and i will hate to see anyone giving him a big payday

If anyone can truly justify why Margarito should be allowed to fight again are straight ignorant. Yes, he is a exciting action fighter who is fun to watch but the bottomline he should be banned for life. I enjoyed watching him fight also but he is a disgrace for the sport. Of course the trainer wants to take full responsibility so Arum and Margarito can send him checks after every fight. He should be BANNED FOR LIFE and anything else is intolerable. This is way different then a PED user because his hands were like brass knuckles. He already ruined Cotto who could have been a legend after beating Mosley but Cotto was cheated and could have died in the ring. Liking a fighter doesn’t justify his actions. He should be in jail for attempted murder.
This writer is such a Margarito fan it is ridiculous. Pacquiao-Margarito is the biggest fight out there after Mayweather. That’s a joke. Mosley beat the hell out of Margarito. The “Margarito has always been a straight shooter” line is funny. Pics have come out showing the pinkish color on the side of his taped hands that the commissions have said is not from the glove. The pic is after the Cotto fight. Even the Cal. commision said those illegal wraps (vs Mosley), left a pink color on his wraps. Sparring partners have said for years that Margocheato’s punches felt unreasonably hard during sparring. I used to like Tony, but he is a cheater. His punches were never that hard, he throws his punches wrong. He wants to prove himself. Fight Cintron, fight Clottey, fight Cotto. He’s a cheater, get over it.

What a lot of pro Margarito guys forget is that his ‘talent’ was purely because he cheated…. If you just look at his record you can roughly tell by which time he began using plaster in his wraps.
Pacquiao and Margarito would be the fight of the cheaters. But Pacquiao isn’t going to fight after Clottey ko’s him in the first round.

Louis Resto and Panama Lewis was Banned for life and did jail time for tampering for hand wraps and gloves. If they were banned for life why should Margarito be allowed to fight again? Margarito saying he didn’t know is BS if anyone has boxed before you would know something is up with the wraps by the way they feel.
Margarito should be in prison. I hope Pac never fights him. Why should he get rewarded with a huge payday after the crimes he committed. Keith Kizer, the executive director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission said this on the drug testing issue. “Mr.Mayweather has every right to demand it. But that’s a private negotation and not something we’re involved in.” It appears the commission disagrees with you and Arum.
HES is not going to be fighting any more inside tip they found more proof. Look at the golden johnson fight theres all the proof some people need and if they dont see it then wait to the hearing.

But, the debate about how to implement a safe and foolproof way should be started, now, by scientists and doctors, and not just by some paranoid individuals. Also, a clause should be included in every fight contract that in the event NSAC screws up the procedure and hurt a fighter’s health, that a form of compensation be awarded the fighter, or the fighter be given the time and opportunity to heal and his health reinstated back to where before the incident happened.
Complicated, right? Yes, it is. That is why, a measure should be debated before being passed into law, before it can be adopted by boxing’s governing body.
This is why Mayweather’s blood testing idea is exposed as a charade because it lacks the details especially where USADA takes full responsibility for a fighter’s well-being in the course of implementing a measure that claims to protect atheletes’ well-being.
Who will protect fighters from USADA’s incompetence?
The question is, if the fight is governed by NSAC and blood testing is done by a third party, the USADA, then, who is going to be held accountable once USADA nurse representative miss the vein and have to do another intrusion, miss the vein again, and have to do another intrusion, leaving the fighter with a sore arm affecting his performance?
Worse, what if the nurse hits a nerve? And that’s not to mention, how could they ensure a sterile place to draw the blood. How do you isolate a locker room of contaminants and other infectious hazards?
If the nurse screws up, will NSAC be be held accountable for USADA’s incompetence? And, what are the ramnifications if ever such errors occur that will result in a fighter’s injury and eventual defeat? Floyd Mayweather Jnr? The author of this blood testing measure?
See, that is why NSAC refuses to adopt such measures because it just doesn’t work with boxers!
That is why Floyd’s blood testing scheme is stupid and absurd!

He was putting at risk the braincells of men who’d worked their whole lives to get where they are. Him not going to jail is a second chance in itself. I hope all fighters refuse to share a ring with him.
Margarito should be banned for life. People do deserve second chances but not in this situation. Cotto, Cintron, and lord know’s how many other fighters would have one less loss on there records. Plus money the fighters have lost losing to Margarito. He is a disgrace to the sport and doesnt desreve a second chance.

The only reason Tony wasn’t charged for assault intent is because the Commission could not establish the chain of custody because different people handled the strange substance,resulting in evidence that could not be used in court.
yeah i agree he should be allowed to fight again but his record should be edited to zero losses. the upside is that this dude wont be left alone to cheat again. the manny enhanciao vs margacheto fight will be pretty fair if you let them cheat on each other, manny with his roids and marg with his plaster.

The commission should never have said a one year suspension. Margarito should have been charged legally. Watch the Margarito-Cotto fight, look at Margarito’s pink hand wraps after the fight, and look at Cotto’s face. Its a shame he didn’t get caught then. If he would have been, he would be in prison, just like Resto and Lewis were. Of course top Rank wants him back though. Arum has already said he wants a Margarito-Pacquaio fight.
