Khan to fight Marquez on May 15th: Judah and Mayweather after that

By William Mackay: It now looks like World Boxing Association light welterweight champion Amir Khan (22-1, 16 KO’s) won’t be facing WBA light welterweight interim champion Marcos Maidana anytime soon, if ever. In an article with The Sun, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer says “A fight against [Juan Manuel] Marquez is a breakthrough as he is one of the best and Mexico’s No 1 active fighter. Once he [Khan] wins against Marquez, there is the possibility of a fight against Zab Judah – and then [Floyd] Mayweather Jr.”
Khan has already been knocked out in one round by the hard hitting Breidis Prescott in September 2008, and Maidana, who perhaps hits even harder than Prescott, would be a big danger for Khan. If Khan doesn’t fight Maidana within the year, you would have to assume that Khan will either vacate his WBA title or have it stripped from him for not fighting Maidana. Schaefer seems confident that Khan will get by Marquez.
That’s not a certainty either, even though Marquez is getting old, and would be fighting above his natural weight in a fight against Khan. If Khan does get by Marquez, Judah would be a good fight. Judah isn’t a piece of cake either. He can still hit hard and he would be very dangerous for Khan, because Amir isn’t a big fighter.
Judah’s loses have mostly come against welterweights, not light welterweights. It’s ridiculous to imagine Khan facing Mayweather in the near future. It doesn’t matter if Khan somehow beats Marquez and Judah, a fight against Mayweather would be way over his head and I can’t imagine him doing anything other than getting knocked out in a one-sided fight.

Lets be realistic here Khan got KO’d in 1 round but now he has Roach so he’s undestrutable ? Ya right ! I havnt heard Roach predict a Ko of Marquez so he knows what Khan will be getting into come fight night. khan can come 100% it won’t matter against Marquez. Marquez has more technique and will win by KO!

Hats off to GBP. They are truly getting Khan’s name out there. I haven’t seen him fight, but his reputation seems to be he has a glass jaw. Not going to earn too many big names if thats true. We will see. At one time Wladimir Klitschko’s jaw was supposedly too weak. Now, the only fighter that would stand a chance against him is his brother.

This will be a great test for him. If he succeeds, he might want to think about fighting someone other than May or Pac! Bradley would be a great option. He definitely not ready to be defined anywhere near that category!!

I agree with Dons very sound argument. As long as khan keeps giving us excuses to criticize and disrespect him then thats what will happen. The maidana fight would have been khan vs a young live big punching real current contender at the right weight. Its what a lot of people have been asking for so if they had taken that fight and won, people would have had no excuses or reason to keep pecking and jibing, it would have shut a few mouths up and forced us to credit him at long last. But no they had the chance and they didnt do it, so the crticism will continue and they cant complain.

Must admit I don’t know much about Khan but beating Marquez by KO would be a big statement. Pacman and Floyd could not do it. I must say I’m suprised at his management steering him away from Maidana. Khan and his team should be to come up with a game plan to keep him upright with a trainer like Roach. As a young fighter you don’t want to get the labeled a cherrypicker as they call some fighters.
Khans best moment was beating the light punching kotelnic yet just wach how he laboured towards the end.Ok,he is young but would Duran,hearns,leonard,i could go on and on but you get my drift he is not special..

Marquez is a top athelete, i’m sure you wouldn’t last 5 seconds in a marquez training camp, he is always in top condition, a true pro and a master craftsman in the ring.
If he only had one arm i’d still back him against Kahn.

Khan and his trainer are avoiding big punchers.we’ve been charged ppv by Sky to see Khan fight no-bodies whilst his record is padded out sufficiently to challenge a light punching champion then defend against a really light puncher, because he is mandatory, yet don’t fight the new no1 challenger (who can hit)because there isn’t enough money in it.What khan and co need to realise is that you earn the right to command big purses,ppv sales by fighting the dangerous fighters not just talking about it then fighting small old men.

Lol this is getting moody. Amir khans problem is he’s to confident. The public never like someone too full of themselves, like mayweather. Khan needs to prove himself. The biggest name he’s fought is barrera, who was overweight and coming off a long lay off. Apart from that he has kotelnik. In my opinion kotelnik isn’t as bad as people make out. He was unlucky against witter and m’baye and a tough fighter, having gone the distance and beating maidana. Khan doesn’t get the credit he deserves for beating him. I do think however that khan should fight maidana to not only prove his critics wrong but also to show he’s not scared of being hit hard, which he would be at some point in the fight. He needs to work his way up to men like marquez and mayweather. I think he could be a champion as far up to middleweight if he fullfills his potential and his management don’t keep protecting him.

Khan will outbox Maidana with ease, It will be like the Mayweather fight, but Khan will take him out in 3-4 rounds with a flurry of none stop punches. Amir Khan has a glass chin and he knows it. He’s got all the skills in the world except the ability to take a punch.
Look at the size of the head gear he wears when he spars Pac. I didn’t know they made them that padded.
I think he’ll continue to go around the bigger names until he has a solid American fan base. Otherwise, if he takes a big fight and loses it, his dream for fame in the states will pretty much fly right out the window.

Some of you are underestimating Khan here. He’s much larger than Marquez and has developed real boxing skills under Freddie Roach. Khan’s speed is going to be too much for Marquez as he will land leather all night on Marquez. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Khan get a surprise stoppage over Marquez. Remember that Diaz nearly finished Marquez last February.
Khan’s KO loss to Prescott was a fluke in my opinion. It was a super punch that landed at the right time. But Khan also didn’t have Freddie Roach preparing him for the fight either. I think Khan will get a big win here against Marquez.
