De La Hoya: “The public will hopefully make him [Pacquiao] change his mind”

By Eric Thomas: Oscar De La Hoya still very much is hopeful that a fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao can be made in the future. Despite the bitter negotiations falling apart last time, De La Hoya is still looking forward to a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao in the future. In an article at ABC-CBN News, De La Hoya says “The public will hopefully make him [Pacquiao] change his mind. Why would you not want to earn 40 million dollars? Why would you not want to show the public that all this speculation is nonsense? Be the one to stand up and say it.”
All that would need to happen now is for Mayweather or Pacquiao to agree on a middle ground to take for the blood testing. Pacquiao wants the random blood testing to stop at 24 days, whereas Mayweather wants the tests to continue until 14 days before the fight. Surely, they should be able to agree with something in between those two numbers.
De La Hoya says “That fight [Pacquiao-Mayweather] has to happen. It’s too big not to happen. We just have to cross one hurdle.” I agree. They need to settle this once and for all. It would be a huge disappointment if they are unable to agree to fight because of the drug testing.

I am sick and tired hearing all of these foolishness information against manny pacquiao….the issue is simple..2 parties should agreed to a contract…the other one declined…..so what is wrong with that?…..pacquaio is no non sense that is why he moves to clottey’s camp to fight him…so if yo want to fight him in the future makes an offer again…but it doesnt mean if he refuse your offer he is on steroids….ok change those topics lets move on boxing fans and witness these fighters as they moving on for a big fights in their chosen opponent….stop it please and be matured…..
Manny, why will you deprive yourself of earning $40 million by not agreeing to this random testing? The other question is , “Why is Little Floyd demand this blood testing and jeopardize his chances of making $40 millions too? On Manny’s side I think is his pride. On Mayweather side, I think it’s the effect of using too much Xylocaine. This drug depleted his neurons and make him a moron.
I fully agree with ODLH that hopefully, the people, the boxing fans, especially Pacquiao’s fans will change his mind and fight Mayweather, as we all would love to see this fight happen.
BUT FIRST Mayweather has to prove himself that he deserves that WW title shot that Pacquiao will give him.

BUT FIRST Mayweather has to earn his way, inside the ring, against the recognized WW contenders. If NOT, there are far more deserving journeyman contenders that should be rewarded to “CASH-IN” on what can be a potentially difficult but rewarding match against Pacquiao.
So… as I APPEAL to Manny Pacquaio: Sometime someday you would have to offer Mayweather to fight you BUT make him earn that match. But do not forget, that in your ascent to the top, to recognize the blood, sweat and tears that the other journeymen boxers have shed to be where they are and NOT THRU “HYPE”, AS YOU ONCE WERE A JOURNEYMAN.

Seems like PBF and ODH still imposing rules that have never been used as standards in boxing. Why? Who is the challenger by the way? I still believe PBF doesn’t really want this fight in the first place.
Oscar NEEDS to MAN-UP to his words by having ALL GBP fighters, starting Now, submit Random blood tests. (Same goes for any Fighter wanting the change).
If Oscar doesn’t enforce all GBP fighters to submit random blood tests, this makes him and Shaefer nothing but HYPOCRITS.

Come on, let’s use a little common sense; what person turns down a 40 million dollar fight over an issue of blood testing, if they are clean??!! Like the Mayweathers, or not, they know their boxing. Obviously there was something going on in the Pacquiao camp that they had an in side track on; otherwise, why would Manny re-act so emotionally? It seems, if he were as clean as they want us to think he is, he would’ve taken the fight, shut Floyd up, and made a ton of money. This fight has to happen.

PBF/GBP continue to think they can dictate the negotiation w/Pacquiao. They don’t realize the ship has sailed. Pacman has move on. By the looks of it he’s doing quite well w/o pbf. This is another article and another statement from the pbf camp in trying to dictate terms. PBF needs Pacman. He said so himself when pbf started to contemplate, $40m Pac or $10m Mosley. He’ll get something in-between against Pac. Pac has all the power in these negotiations, PPV draw, more popular and he’s the Champ.

The Mayweather Camp, has to settle things first in the court and then appologies for the accusations that all of them had made before the Pacquiao Camp will even talk about the fight. Its a matter of principle now.

Never said anything about Olympic style testing. All I’m saying is all Athletes should be tested randomly. If there is a better test out there then that one should be used. But not taking a random blood test isn’t the answer. What Boxing is using now isn’t the best. Boxing has the worst drug testing protocol in all of sports. Boxing needs to have the best due to the brutality of the sport. If PBF or who ever wants to change the way boxing test it’s athletes should be applauded. It’s such a simple but logical solution. If they have a case and reason for adopting USADA testing into professional boxing, lobby the commission for changes. If Pac refuses the commission testing mandates then he will be stripped of his license and belts, so he has no choice but to comply.
Only problem is- Golden Boy and the Mayweathers know the commission will say no because HGH blood testing is useless. But luckily, there’s an HGH urine test that’s in the works, getting past stringent screening for approval. Ironically, the USADA is funding this project… shows how confident they are in their present methods, no?

First of all, Olympic style HGH testing is useless- the NBA, NFL, NBA, NHL, Boxing- basically all PROFESSIONAL sports and most medical professionals know this. No one has ever failed an Olympic style blood test, ever. And how does bringing up James Toney bolster the case for Olympic testing? The Nevada commission testing methods discovered anabolic steroids in his system, twice (he claims he was prescribed them by a doctor following an arm injury). James Toney failing a Nevada commission drug test twice is 2 more times than all of the athletes subjected to Olympic style HGH blood testing combined (8,500+ have been tested). So you only destroy your case by bringing him up.
There’s a reason why professional sports are jumping at the opportunity to adopt flawed amateur style testing. If the USADA’s methods were clearly superior, then every sport would be using their methods, no question.

So let me get this str8 Marquez and Hatton are smaller than PBF but Pac-Man isn’t to small for PBF. But Pac Man fought the same fighters and are the same size. So if PBF beats Pac Man will he also be to small. Just to let you know PBF fought Oscar at 154 and Pac Man fought Oscar at 145. This was the smallest Oscar has been since 1997.

No athlete should have the right to dictate testing procedures that should be governed by a sanctioning body. Mayweather has to drop his drug testing demands as suggested by Arum and I agree into this. Pacquiao is the draw and current champion, Mayweather is just a challenger. Mayweather was a draw before but not at the moment – If Mayweather is still a draw today, he can fight anyone even smaller guys like Malignaggi because he can draw paying fans to see him … but of course, now he knows that he is losing credibility and won’t be able to sell tickets/PPV’s.

In that regard, I also authorize all present and past Nevada State Athletic Commission personnel and any other person with knowledge of the situation to speak openly with the media about such testing.”
To paraphrase: “C’mon, Oscar. If you have nothing to hide, then do it. It’s only a piece a paper. Just sign the waiver.”
