Arum could have future Pacquiao fights at the Dallas Cowboy stadium – News

By Jason Kim: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is ecstatic about his fighter WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao facing Joshua Clottey at the large Dallas Cowboy stadium on March 13th, in Arlington, Texas. Arum, 79, plans on having some of Pacquiao’s future fights at the Dallas cowboy stadium, according to Abs-cbn news. The advantage is that with the big stadium, Arum can get more paying fans and get more attention to Pacquiao, and help boxing in the process.

The Dallas cowboy stadium fits 100,000, but is being configured to fit less than that. As of now, the stadium could be reconfigured to fit between 50,000 to 65,000 fans. It will likely depend on how well ticket sales go.

If they can get 65,000 or more in the stadium for Pacquiao’s fight against Clottey, you can only imagine the kind of numbers that Arum could get if he is able to successfully negotiate a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr., perhaps the number #1 or #2 star in the sport.

After Pacquiao’s planned fight with Mayweather fell apart, it was necessary to find a replacement opponent to fill the void. Clottey, 32, also a Top Rank fighter for Arum, was deemed the best possible available to fight. World Boxing Association light middleweight champion Yuri Foreman, yet another Top Rank fighter for Arum, was briefly considered for a fight with Pacquiao, but it was thought that Clottey would make for a more exciting fight because of his tendency to stand and brawl in his fights instead of moving.

Pacquiao wants to go after an 8th world title win, but that will have to wait awhile for him to get this fight over. The plan after the Clottey fight is to take the winner of the January 30th unification bout between WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto and WBA champion Shane Mosley. These plans could change, naturally, if another more intriguing fight opens up like Mayweather, for instance.

Mayweather could fight on the same night on March 13th. There’s been no word about who he would be fighting, but unless it’s a big named star, his fight will likely take a back seat to the Pacquiao-Clottey bout in terms of pay per view revenue and fan interest. Paulie Malignaggi and Nate Campbell have been two of the names that have been mentioned as a possible opponent for Mayweather to fight next. Both are good fighters, but it will probably take a bigger star than them to take away fans from wanting to see the Pacquiao-Clotty fight.

Mayweather would do well to pick someone like Paul Williams or Sergio Martinez, two of the best light middleweights in the division, but the chances of that happening are slim and none.
After the fight, Pacquiao plans on singing with a reported 5000 to show up for the singing.

if mayweather is really all that interested in a level playing field then why is it ok for him to fight with his hands injected with xylocain does that not give him an unfair advantaga if he can feel no pain in his hands.it is banned in every state but nevada.hmmmm?

this is the event of all events, a boxing extravaganza! the pacman’s thunderous punch is going to look magnificent in those dallas stadium’s cosmic hd colossal videoscreen. i can only imagine the slowmo in between rounds. and that knockdowns knockout is going to be out of this world.
    GO PACMAN!

Fight Dr what did Floyd do to be ranked #2 after his retirement. Nothing. You can’t be P4P best when you don’t even fight elite guys in your own weight class. He made Marquez jump 2 weight classes to face him a P4P best dosn’t make a smaller fighter jump 2 wieght classes to face him. He should have jump 2 wieght classes to face Pavlik or Artur Abraham. The guy is a coward

To Drug Test Avoidance: Do you seriously believe Mayweather Sr’s accusations, who is a convicted drug-dealing felon, against Pacquiao? Either you’re stupid or on drugs! Never once Pacquiao has failed any drug test. He has never been accused of using any PEDs because any real boxing fan would see that Pacquiao is the real deal. Even when he was an unknown boxer you could already see the raw talent from him, plus he already has that amazing power in his punches. All it took was for Roach to train him and mold him into what he is now: a pure fighting machine!

Mayweather Sr. can’t just accept that his boy Hatton lost so devastatingly.. And now he concocts this drug fairy tale. What a joke!

I’d pay to see someone legally murder Paulie Malignaggi. But I just cant see Floyd Mayweather doing that. Mayweather is a runner and runners dont have any killer instincts.

there are millions of new fans of boxing like me worldwide. even thought the mayweather/pacquaio bust. we are interested & following where both fighters are going with whom they fight & judges for ourselves. we are not naive even being very new to this sport. we are the next generations of boxing followers who contribute to pays for ppv. our first learned of the GBP that this stable corrupt. teddy atlast is also defiled to our eyes as a new fans. we will disregard his boxing past contribution as phony for what he has shown that is not true.
we will judge floyd for his future fights not the past where were not able to experienced. we were taken by boxing because of manny pacquaio.

good day from the young future of the boxing community.

I would never pay ppv my hard earned $65 bucks to watch a boxer shoulder roll all night. I’ve already wasted that money last September.

Cowboys Stadium is in ARLINGTON, TX, in Tarrant County. Not in Dallas or in Dallas County. ARLINGTON, TX is also home to major league baseball’s Texas Rangers. The stadiums are next to each other. Tarrant county is home to Arlington and Ft. Worth. The City of Dallas turned the Cowboys away when Jerry Jones wanted to build the stadium there. If you see the stadium as I have, it will blow your mind. It’s a work of art. It is fantastic. No other stadium like it in the world.

  • Drug Test Avoidance says:

He’ll stay in Texas because he doesn’t plan on submitting to any random drug test that might be introduced by Nevada.

    Manny is on drugs.

  • goodgrief says:

mayweather fighting paul williams? no way its not gonna happen. mayweather scared of big guys that can tarnish his precious “0″. but its will happen i guess mayweather will be knockout at 5 rounds

  • ElCondor says:

Rumor has it that Floyd will be fighting Paul Williams. Williams is one hell of a fighter who busted Winky Wright. Assuming the rumor of a fight with Williams is true…it “might” make for an “interesting” fight. However…knowing Floyd…he’ll likely put on his own brand of “show” that’s fit for “Dancing With The Stars”. He’ll dance, dance, dance all night and tickle Williams – just to accumulate points. And presto, he remains “undefeated”. What a weirdo!

  • e-dogg says:

there’s no way you’ll get floyd to fight pacquiao in dallas… not as long as xylocaine is prohibited!!!

  • Lou says:

I think Arum is very smart and sly. Manny’s future fights will be there for one purpose. Take a guess. It’s to give Mayweather another shot but only in Texas not Nevada. Why Texas? Floyd can’t use his Xylocain pain free drug. Mayweather with out his Popeye Hand wonder drug can’t finish a bout or keep a pressure fighter off him

  • z says:

    Bob Arum please retire

    that is all

  • Hatch says:

Get it on!!! If you are a fighter, you fight. No issues, no spoiled-brat-superstar-egoistic demands. No cherry-picking whom to fight. Just fight.

  • Boxerrrrr says:

    That’s what I’m talking about.
    Lets get it on.
    No soap ophra.
This is what boxing is all about……….
