Arthur Abraham – Andre Dirrell In Super Six March 6 On SHOWTIME

Tournament point leader “King” Arthur Abraham will kick off Group Stage 2 of the Super Six World Boxing Classic when he faces Andre “The Matrix” Dirrell on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the Agua Caliente Casino, Resort, Spa in Rancho Mirage, Calif., in greater Palm Springs, live on SHOWTIME® at 9 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast).

The Armenian-born, German sports icon Abraham (31-0, 25 KOs) currently leads the Super Six World Boxing Classic point standings with three (3) by way of his final-round knockout victory over American Jermain Taylor on Oct. 17 in Berlin. Dirrell, the former middleweight bronze medalist (2004 Olympic Games) from Flint, Mich., dropped a close, disputed 12-round split decision to defending champion Carl Froch in his Group Stage 1 match for the World Boxing Council (WBC) World Championship the same night in Nottingham, England.

The event is being promoted by Gary Shaw Productions, LLC, and Sauerland Event. Tickets go on sale to the public tomorrow/Saturday, Jan. 30, at 10 a.m. and are available at The Show box office, online at www.HotWaterCasino.com/TheShow or by calling 1.800.585.3737. Prices are as follows: Floor $180; Loge $140; Mezzanine $85.

“I need two more victories to secure my place in the semifinals and I will start with Dirrell,” said the 29-year-old Abraham, who is training in Zinnowitz (Baltic Sea). “He is a very skilled, yet very awkward fighter. It will be a difficult challenge but together with my coach Ulli Wegner we have developed an idea how to beat him.”

Dirrell (18-1, 13 KOs) is eagerly awaiting the showdown. “The end of Camelot is near,” he said. “It’s off with ‘King Arthur’s’ head on March 6.”

Said Shaw, “Andre is going to pull the sword out of the stone and stab it straight into King Arthur’s ego.”

This will be Abraham´s second fight in the United States. He previously defeated Edison Miranda by fourth-round KO in June 2008. “I have said it before and I will say it again: It is my goal to become a star in America,” Abraham stated. “That is where boxing legends are made, and I want to become a boxing legend. That is what the Super Six (World Boxing Classic) tournament is all about for me. The victory over Taylor was a good start, but I am not finished yet.”

Abraham is counting on the support of the huge Armenian community in Los Angeles as the fight will be held just 90 miles east in the Palm Springs desert. “A lot of Armenians live in L.A. and I hope they all come and support me against Dirrell. I will put on a great show just like I did against Taylor,” he said.

Abraham’s promoter Kalle Sauerland is thrilled to give the American boxing fans a first-hand look at who he believes is “the most explosive fighter in World Boxing”. He said: “Abraham kicked off the Super Six World Boxing Classic in style. Once again, he showed his incredible punching power. He is undefeated in 31 fights with 25 KOs including 10 successful defenses of his middleweight championship.

“He can’t wait to get his stateside campaign going in the U.S. and he will deliver another spectacular fight against Dirrell. Gary Shaw and his troops better watch out — the Abrahammer is on his way to catch Dirrell. Here come another three points.”

They change the location of this fight from palm springs to Detroit and refferre’s are from Detroit. So, I think Dirrells side hopeing to end this fight in decsion so they can use the help of the reffrees. Abraham will knock this guy out, he doent take chances.

  • Harold says:

Direll will have to fight a very smart fight, abraham is a very good defensive fighter, with lots of power, if direll uses his speed, jab, and reach he will have a good chance of winning, abraham is good but he has his weaknesses. This should be a good fight could go either way abraham by late round ko or direll by decision

  • Oli says:

the cowardice way he fought froch sickened me. I hope abraham knocks him clean out

  • Alexander Akopian says:

It’s true that Dirrell is a volume puncher, but the judges consider him a super flyweight puncher. 10 of Dirrell’s punches equals one of Abrahammer’s punch. Consequently, if Dirrell elects to run like a fox, that will arouse judges’ pestilence against him. You have to realize that judges are not there to count dirrell’s punches. Judging involves many elements that often judges differ from viewers’ point of view, that seemed to confuse the viewers. This does not mean that dirrell cannot have the edge, but it means that his speed and volume of punches alone does not oblige judges to regard him as the victorious one. Most boxers against Abraham have higher punching rate and yet they end up on the floor. Abraham is determined about this one. Abraham sees dirrell as an easy road to the super six.

  • ste says:

dirrell is very quick but its only gonna take 2-3 punches from king abraham to smash dirrell to the floor. i think abraham is the most under rated fighter in the super 6.

  • TB says:

i pick dirrell ud. to fast to much punch output,

  • ken d. says:

    this guy should fight Klitschko!

  • John,e says:

He didn’t beat froch he ran for 10 round out of 12 or hung on like a limpet mine when he wasn’t running!!if he had took the fight to froch from round one then he could have won or got knock out trying.

  • Solini says:

Andre Dirrell is going to have to stick and move the entire 36 minutes if he has a chance, sort of like what he did against Froch, he beat Froch but didn’t have enough of those wow moments in the middle of the ring to get the decision

  • milosands says:

I actually see Dirrell winning if it goes the distance. Shocking I know but I feel he will take a lot from the Froch fight and try to land more this time round. He just stayed clear of Froch last time and it wasn’t until the last two rounds that he actually started to trade – with some success too. I think he will have gained a lot of confidence from that looking at the tapes.

If Dirrell tries to hold he will get eaten alive. If Dirrell trades too much then he will get KO’d, he needs to fight a very smart fight and it is very possible he could do it. I know Abraham is the favourite and rightly so but as I said, Andre will have learnt a lot from his last fight. And for the record I think Froch won that fight, he was the champion and Dirrell did not do enough to steal the belt.

  • John,e says:

Dirrell the Gazelle ran all night from Froch!!!!and he,ll need jet boots to get out of the way of the runaway train called Abraham.

  • Gaz says:

In my opinion Abraham is the most dangerous fighter in this.

Maybe not the winner, but the most dangerous. He can KO any fighter if he hits them and his defence is really good. If his workrate was higher he would be a p4p top fighter

  • Wildnature says:

Abraham will destroy to Dirrel…their power punch and defence will be the diference inthis match…Abraham for desicion or KO

  • Robney says:

I think it will be an difficult night for Arthur but I think he catches ‘the spoiltrix’ Dirrell inside 10 rounds and that will be it for Andre.
I sure hope Dirrell will be a bit (read a lot) more offensive in this bout then against Froch, and a Abraham who cuts off the ring nicely.

  • william says:

This blog is about abraham and dirrell you plum! As you mentioned ward i will give my view, the guys a dirty fighter!
