Arce defeats Angkota

By Sean McDaniel: With all the watered down talent in the super flyweight division, it was only a matter of time before a fighter like former light flyweight/flyweight champion Jorge Arce (53-6-1, 40 KO’s) captured one of the titles. Tonight, Arce, 30, defeated Angky Angkota (18-4, 9 KO’s) by a 7th round technical decision to win the vacant World Boxing Organization super flyweight title at the Plaza de Toros Arroyo in Mexico City.

Arce, who had lost two out of his last three fights in failed attempts at winning another coming into Saturday night’s bout with Angkota. Arce dominated the bout with hooks to the body and head, getting the better of Angkota. In the 7th round, Angkota experienced a cut over the right eye in the 7th, causing the fight to be stopped from a clash of heads. The final judges scores were 58-56, 60-54 and 60-54, all for Arce.
