Will Pacquiao still be demanded to take blood tests against other opponents

By Peter Wells: With the recent news that World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao is still refusing to take blood tests despite agreeing to them on the contract it looks unlikely the fight will go ahead. Personally I believe if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about, so if Manny isn’t taking performance enhancing drugs then why refuse to take tests.

Now Pacquiao has plenty of other opponents to choose from, including Shane Mosley – if he beats Andre Berto – Juan Manuel Marquez and maybe even Yuri Foreman. Fighters like Foreman or Bradley who wouldn’t miss an opportunity like this for anything wouldn’t care less about Manny taking blood tests, but other top fighters like Marquez, whom has already said if he is to replace Mayweather then he will also want Pacquiao to take blood tests.

Also Shane Mosley who wouldn’t like to be cheated against in a fight where he is to prove how great he is, and that he has loads left to offer. So those fighters would also want Pacquiao to take the tests; because now the question has been raised it won’t be easy to let down. It makes Manny look even more suspicious that he isn’t taking the tests, as much as I believe Manny would never take such drugs – unless his team are giving them him without him knowing what they are like Shane Mosley – I do have my doubts. If Manny decides to retire and go into politics then this question will linger for many years to come, and maybe one day Manny might admit to it, which would be one of the biggest controversies in boxing.

I still hope the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight goes ahead and would love Manny to prove to us all that he hasn’t been taking performance enhancing drugs. If not then it will leave us all wondering was he taking drugs or not, and maybe we’ll never know.

Why does manny have to prove he isnt taking PEDs? He never accused anyone, the accusers should be the ones presenting proof of manny taking the drug, its more interesting how fast a person can be accused based on assumptions just cause he’s an extraordinary gifted guy who only comes rarely in a lifetime

  • neukid says:

Then its about time for the Nevada State Athletic Commission to step up to the plate and say, hey folks we set the rules here not you or GBP/Mayweathers if we say your pee is all we need before and after the fight thats it, no ifs or buts. Done.

  • TRUTH.BE.TOLD says:

VERY INTERESTING HOW MANNY WON’T DO THE OLYMPIC STYLE DRUG TESTING. WHAT’S THERE TO HIDE?

MAYWEATHERS HAVE BEEN IN THIS BUSINESS A LONG TIME. THEY CAN’T CONTROL THE OUTCOME OF THE FIGHT, BUT THEY ARE SMART AS HELL. I SMELL A RAT!! AND IT’S A PAC RAT!!!

IF HE DOES AGREE TO THE DRUG TESTING, THEY SHOULD ALSO BE SURE TO DO A GOOD JOB CHECKING HIS HAND WRAPS BEFORE THE FIGHT. THIS GUY JUST MIGHT BE CHEATING.

  • peplz says:

The issue was not whether he is willing to take tests. He does not want to submit to one of the fundamental criteria of the USADA’s standard of testing which is randomly timed and at any time the USADA chooses. Thats the only way that they are willing to do their screenings. So Team Pacquiao were looking for a compromise and to have another agency perform the testing and have the tests done at specified dates, or have an assurance that the tests do not take place during a certain time window. The USADA’s Olympic style testing is considered by the Mayweather Team to be the highest standard of screening available at this time. And they will not accept anything less than the highest standard. They will not relent. Pacquioa will not relent. And, if Pacquiao is really running for office in May, I think that this limits his options for prospective replacement opponents. So the winner of the Moseley/Berto match up is all Floyd’s in theory.

arum, maany and roach are scoundrells and low lifes i hope they dont destroy the sport that made them rich.

  • Olympic medalist says:

USADA random testing. How reliable (or unreliable) is this? How come many athletes (including AMERICANS) in the Olympics only were detected with banned substances only AFTER they won their events? How in the world did the random testing done 30, 20, 15, 7, 3, 1/2 days during training and just BEFORE the olympic event failed to detect the cheatings? Was it because of the unreliability of the system or worse, the testers were looking the other way when the tests were being done? Pacman is right after all.

  • MMA says:

Stool examination be included. Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight. And in all boxing fight, olympic, so that may we know what kind of foods they eat before the fight/game. It will be published immidiatly. Agree?

  • JuicedManny says:

    @Money

You should probably read Steve’s article:

“Of Superstition & Old Wives’ Tales: Pacquiao vs. Mayweather”

Maybe you will understand where Manny is coming from as well. I dont understand why people dislike Manny, he’s always been a class act. I like Mayweather because he’s a great boxer.. I just don’t like the mind games outside the ring.

  • JuicedManny says:

    @Money

Nice point, but I doubt Manny will fail the test. It will ruin his reputation and his run in politics. He will not fail his country… a country which finally has waited for a superstar for a VERY long time. This is Mayweather classic mind games at its finest.

  • MONEY says:

Looks like Manny is holding up the fight, if Mayweather is a punk, scared,a coward, then take the test and call his bluff if not than Many is on the JUICE MAN. Say what u want if it was the other way around you would say Floyd is scared, a punk, coward for not taking it. If the testing is good enough for Olympic athletes then way not for the Pac Man?

  • MONEY says:

I say this, say Mayweather agrees for Pac to take the blood test after.Mayweather gets beat they do the blood test and the test come back positive and Pac was on the JUICE, the damage is done. I say this sports should pay more attention to things like this,if Cotto camp would have paid more attention to Margritto he probably wouldn’t have lost that fight. Better safe than sorry. If the shoe was on the other foot would you say the same thing? (i am talking to the Pac fans)

  • Atj says:

Hi Filipino Dog-eater, if an athlete who takes PED during his training but have already flushed it out of his system before the game will he still benefit from it? To take my question in a negative way cause I really don’t know the answer to this. Also, why is not sufficient for Manny to submit blood samples immediately after the fight?

  • Atj says:

Can someone please enlighten me why it is not sufficient for Manny to give blood samples immediately after the fight? Add to that that Arum suggested that MP pay a penalty of $10M if found positive.

  • Manny has already agreed to a blood test right after the fight is over. Why is that not sufficient enough for Mayweather? It seems that Manny doesn’t want to use WADA Testing because he doesn’t want to be subject to their random testing close to the fight. People are taking this a step further saying since WADA tests for HGH Manny is resisting the tests. Why don’t they just take the blood sample from the post fight and submit it to WADA? Then they can write into the contract that if Manny tests positive he will forfeit his purse. If Mayweather can’t agree to that, then he really is blowing up this whole issue to harass Manny.

  • Kent Wayne says:

Ok, for those of you that are saying that Manny cheats. if he cheats, why would he agreed to having 3 blood tests? Are you saying he’s planning on taking dope during his training camp? If he does, then his camp is filled with morons. Ok, do you steal when you know you’re being watched closely? if you’re saying he’s been doping for a long time, then why would he agree to 3 blood tests? it just doesn’t make any sense. 3 or 7, it’s the same. the only problem with 7 times is that it’s invasive and may throws a fighter off his focus. Think about it, 7 times. each times takes about 1-2 days to recoperate that’s abot 14 days of training wasted. i believe that floyd knows that this would give him the edge, therefore, he’s forcing it on pacman.

  • neukid says:

Yeah, the rules must be changed urinalysis should be discarded and blood testing should be the norm for any boxer who wants to fight in any state or better still combine urinalysis and blood testing. But right now the rules say urinalysis is sufficient!! So be it!

  • Amar says:

you dumb idiot of a writer

pacman agreed to the blood test, 30 daysbefore the fight and 1 hour after it. get your facts right you dumb cnut

  • AnthonyW says:

After hearing the whole story, I do believe the amount of drug testing is over the top compared to a normal bout. However, the Pacquiao camp have not handled this well at all. They need to agree or negotiate the drug tests because if this bout doesn’t happen, his reputation is going to be shattered. Pacquiao will be seen by the majority as maybe trying to hide something.

  • Don'tBeHatinPacman says:

IDIOTAS … Pacman agreed to blood testing 30 days before and after the fight. If anyone of you have some medical knowledge, they will be able to find what they want to find. IDIOTAS !!! Cowardice on the part of Mayweather Camp. Simply dodging the killer punch of PACMAN.

  • Gonzcros says:

Maybe this time Freddie (Roach) will say that Manny was taking PED’s only for therapeutic purposes only, just like he said after James Toney got stripped out of his heavyweight belt for testing positive for nandrolone in 2005. That’s the same steroid the infamous sprinter Ben Johnson tested positive for in 1988 when he beat Carl Lewis and set the 100M world record in the Olympic Games. Maybe this time it is one of those “undetectable therapeutic substances” like the ones cyclists use at the Tour D’France.

  • hasbeen says:

MP has never busted a drug screen. Why should he have to kiss FM’s a** just to get him in the ring. For those of you that want to believe MP is doping just because of what FM and his daddy say well be my guest. IMO Floyd is going to keep coming up with BS demands because he doesn’t really want to fight Pacquiao. This kind of bad publicity is not really something that the sport of boxing needs. The sport is no where near what it once was and this kind of BS doesn’t help in the least.

  • Don'tBeHatinPacman says:

Mayweather is a COWARD. He never runs out of excuses to dodge the best fighters.
