Why Mosley would beat both Mayweather and Pacquiao

By Peter Wells: I know most people will think, what is this guy talking about, but if you look at the way these fighters fight, Shane Mosley would beat both Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao. I have stated how much I believe Manny or Floyd should fight Shane Mosley, and this is to say how and why he would beat both fighters and become the best boxer in the world.
I don’t think I have much trouble convincing a lot of you that Mosley would beat Mayweather, especially after hearing what you said after my first article about Sugar Shane. I respect Mayweather, and hope he gives Mosley a shot next and I honestly haven’t ever seen Mayweather avoid anyone, it’s just that he doesn’t decide to always fight the best, he was the one who called out Hatton and Oscar De La Hoya.
Mosley-Pacquiao would be harder to make, but if it did, and if Mosley is fighting at 147lbs it should be a victory for Shane. Mosley has size, reach, power and strength and maybe would just be behind on foot and hand speed. Manny would cause Mosley plenty of problems, but Mosley will be harder to hit, and would be throwing more punches than Manny has ever seen. Pacquiao would give Mosley plenty of problems all fight but Mosley would be too big, and Pacquiao just wouldn’t be able to take advantage near the end. Mosley would prove his point of being the best boxer in the world by beating Pacquiao in a clear decision with many rounds being scored differently, in an entertaining bout.
So there is why and how Mosley will beat the two best boxers on the planet, and hopefully you will understand my reasons. I have no problem if you disagree, that is fair enough, we all have opinions, let’s just wait and hope these fights plan out.

Ugh. Sorry Dude but as great as shane was. He no longer has the skills to take on Manny, Floyd, Paul Williams, or markez. He is gonna wear out trying to break floyds philly shell defense and then get countered all night. He cant even beat Cotto! The biggest joke in the sport of boxing rite now. Cotto is a bum! i also think mosley can beeat both Pac @May before. Mosley’s beter than Cotto. Actually he got a victory from the fight to Cotto.

Yes, that was Vargas that Shane punished. Let us now forget shane’s power and relentlessness. And also, let us not forget Shane’s lead right hand. That is one punch that Floyd has not had to deal with in hardly any of his fights. Shane has fierce combinations, good defense, good power, quick jabs which also deflect punches, good head movement, excelent food speeed, and then that great lead right hand. He will knock Floyd & Pacquiao out!!!!!! You watch.
Mosley beats Pacquiao at welter, unless there is a catchweight – too big.
Mayweather beats Mosley and Pacquiao, although I do believe Pacquiao will give Mayweather a lot of problems.
Mosley is fast and has a lot of power. However. his footwork and movement is limited, also he doesn’t have the workrate you are making out. A perfect example of this is against Margarito, he let his punches and combo’s go, then held and smothered Margarito’s work. This would not work against Mayweather.
As for the who called who out and who avoided who between Mayweather and Mosley. Mayweather did call out Mosley on a number of occasions, he did say he would move up to face Mosley, or if Mosley was moving down. This was when Mayweather was taking, or trying to take on the best in the world. Mosley did make some random excuses, but wouldn’t you if you were put on the spot after going 12 rounds?
Then Mosley called out Mayweather after Marquez, it was Mayweather’s turn to be put on the spot, and he didn’t cope to well either. I don’t think either Mosley or Mayweather are scared to face eachother, it’s just one of those bouts that has not materialized for whatever reason.
I will say though that Mosley’s pursuit of Mayweather after the Marquez bout did seem kind of desperate. I see why people said at the time that Mosley was only after a big final payday. Especially when he went chasing after Pacquiao. Pacquiao at the time was the biggest draw in boxing. Mosley slated Mayweather in an interview after the Marquez bout for fighting smaller boxers, then desperately attempts to get Pacquiao in the ring…

Everybody says how can this be? How can Mosely take out Margarito aka the tornado and not be able to get a fight? Well it is simple, Margo was caught cheating so now the suspicion is that he has always been cheating. Mosely basically beat a nobody. Trust me. If Mosely sign to fight Paul Williams and beat him Mosely will be the man on top of the WW divison in my books. Floyd will have to fight him. No if ands or buts about it. If Mosely beats Berto and Floyd beats Pacman. The two will have to meet. The fans will demand it.

You said Mosley didn’t need Mayweather? Please, please check the record. Mayweather was the p4p king at the time. Dela Hoya was trying to decide whether to fight him. Mayweather went on to fight Hatton and Dela Hoya in two of the biggest pay-per-view fights of the decade. Mosley and Vargas were considered has-beens at the time (Although Mosley has since proved he was not at all washed-up).A win over Mosley would have taken Mosley right back near the top. Of course he needed Mayweather.
I think it may have been Vargas because I remember that big knot on his head.
Mark, I will check the records, but I don’t think I remember any fight mosley had with any vasquez… hmmmm. was it Vargas you’re talking about? if my memory serves me right that was in 2006, And I think Mosley fought him twice. those were both high profile fights and he probably deserved a year off, however I think his next fight was callazo then cotto. Mosley didn’t need Mayweather, but wants him now. Mayweather is definitely someone Mosley can beat. I promise. Nothing wrong with denying a loud mouth who wasn’t in the same class at the time. Now that Mayweather has proven himself by barely squeeking by with a split decision over an old Delahoya, Mosley should be wattering at the mouth to expose little Floyd. Tell me, who looked better against Delahoya Floyd or Mosley? hmmmmm… I might know a little boxing myself. really check the records I will, but you do the same.
Mark, I notice Mosely has problems with taller fighters that have speed. Vernon Forrest was a good example. Paul Williams would be a good test, but again he has a lot of speed but not much defense. Fact is, Shane isn’t getting any younger and he just looked fast againt Margarito because Margo is slow as heck. Mayweather/Mosely would be an interesting matchup. Mainly because they really dislike each other. I think Mosely would be vulnerable in that fight just as Pacman will be in March. They want to tear a hole in Mayweather A** and that plays right into trap.
ZMAN, check the records… Prior to agreeing to fight Hatton, Mayweather called out Mosley right after Mosley defeated Vasquez. Mosley said he did not want to fight for at least a year.
Brooks and Sha seem to know their boxing and I agree with them both. People seem to forget that Mosley has problems with great boxers. How many rounds to he win against Winky wright in their two fights? Not many and the fights were not even close. I think Mosley is a great fighter, but he would be out-boxed by Mayweather.
Roy Jones tested positive for Roids? I didn’t know that. If they start doing random blood/urine testing in boxing we may be in for some suprises.
There isn’t a fighter out there that hasn’t taken banned substances at some point. There are supliments today you can get Legally at your local GNC or vitamin shop in the mall that are banned substances. let’s be real here. I have trained with many athletes of all sports. and when they have a chance during “time off” they will take suppliments that are legal but banned for many sports. when it is time to sign, the just switch to vitamins and good diet, and go through the testing process and come clean. they will be clean come game time.
Mayweather/Pacman needs to happen. Then that winner needs to fight Mosely if he wins against Berto. But what if Mosely loses that fight? Then what? I’m not sure anyone would want to see Pacman or Mayweather fight Berto.
Something needs to start lining up for the year 2010 if boxing is to stay on top of the Pay Per view mountain. I just heard that Tito Trinidad is calling out Cotto. Give me a break man. Who wants to see that?

uh, sha?, an old delahoya made mayweather look silly at times. Williams would do it all fight long. Mosley would destroy mayweather. Mosley never ducked anyone. you say for years? ha! Yup. PBF did call out Shane but I don’t think it was for show. I think the upstart Mayweather really wanted the fight. But hey, call it what you want. I don’t think any fighter is scare of another fighter–That’s just BS if someone thinks that. No fighter wants to lose, so they all cherry pick fights that they think they can win or if the money is right. Paul Williams has been begging to fight other WW and none of them are willing to take the chance. Shane picked Margarito because he saw how slow he was. Cotto saw the same thing but he missed seeing the loaded gloves. Oops!!!
I think Pacman and PBF will fight in March and I believe PBF will win. But whoever wins should fight Mosely next if he wins against Berto. Mayweather has got to take the business out of his fight selections and work on his legacy now. He already has millions. It’s time to show the world what he is really made of. Paul Williams is a freak with no defense. If Mosely can’t get PBF in the ring he should take on PW. This way he don’t need Mayweather. Beating Williams-the so-called most feared WW in boxing is all Mosely needs to seal his legacy and ride off in the sunset.

Shane Mosley does not have good enough footwork to beat Mayweather. He is very fast and very strong, but boxing is not that simple. Mosely is indeed fast as hell, but with his upper body. There is a reason Winky Wright and his superior defence was able to take advatage of Shane Mosleys bad footwork that left him vulnerable to a fighter that knows how to pick apart fighters like him. Twice. There is a reason Vernon Forrest was able to cut him off at angles to get the power punches he needed to hurt Shane Mosley. Twice. Shane Mosley is a great fighter but in my opinion Mayweather is actually a terrible matchup for him. Not taking anything away from him, but if they fight, you will see Mayweather expose his less superior footwork and would be able to do what Mayweather does best and land consistent combos to easily defeat Mosley.

Shame is a 38 years old who beat a Margarito who was not there mentally due being caught using loaded gloves. Moreover, Margarito seen drained. On top of that Mosley had a great game plan of holding up Margo. Margo didn’t now how to deal with that.
I would give Mosley a better chance against Manny. Mosley could tight up the aggressive Manny. I don’t think would try to that against Floyd. Mosley would try to brawl against Floyd. Floyd is also the master of holding in close with a decen puncher.
I sure Floyd makes Mosley take Olympic style tests if they were to fight.
I think Mosley Floyd makes more money the Mosley vs Pacman. It’s just my opinion. Many feel that Mosley is the bigger treat to Floyd as compare to Pacquio. I don’t agree but many do.

Mosley would beat pacquiao and mayweather, but might not beat Paul Williams. Pacquiao would knock out Williams(did you see pauls last fight? got rocked a few times and pacquiao would have finished the job). It is all about styles. Mosley would have the toughest time with Williams, Just like against vernon forest, winkey, cotto… solid boxers that are taller than Mosley have been victorious. williams would crush mayweather. williams is too long and fast for Mayweather. there would be no chance for him to counter. When was the last time you have ever seen Mayweather REACH to hit someone? He picks boxers apart from the pocket… no “check hook” will be in the vicinity with williams. maybe some body shots, but williams would make mayweather look sillyfunny stuck in his duck’nhide turtle shell hahaha with all the jabs and crosses and hooks from a distance Mayweather woulbn’t be able get a shot off. I don’t think Shane would defeat Manny. Shane couldn’t even defeat Cotto. Shane never knocked down Cotto, but Manny has. There is no doubt Manny would win in the later rounds.

Obviously, you like Pac over Floyd. Let me set the record straight which many of you tend to ignore out of convience. First of all, Mayweather called out Shane Mosely several years ago and he wanted to go on vacation and his teeth was lose.So, He needed some time.Now everyone is saying Floyd is ducking Shane Steroid Mosely which is a complete joke ! On the other hand,the only way Freddie would allow Manny to fight Shane if he comes in at 144,a weight he can’t make which would give Manny an advantage.This was from Freddie Roaches mouth. So, if the fight with Mayweather doesn’t happen, Manny will fight to easy fights Freddie knows he can win,Paulie and Yuri Foreman,two non punchers. I guess Manny doesn’t pick his fights too. When are we going to see some honest writing .A writer who can write objectively without injecting his own bias or prejudice. I am not sure Shane would win that easily over Floyd. He couldn’t make a good fight with Miguel Cotto who is much slower than Floyd or Manny . All Miguel did was use the jab and out boxed him.
I have been watching boxing for over 20 years. So, I would suggest that you writers learn about boxing.So, you can make points that make sense and not so heart felt BS.

First of all, Mayweather is faster than Mosley. Secondly I dont think Mosley thinks he can beat Mayweather. He ducked Mayweather a few years ago to “go on vacation.” I think that Mosley wants to make a lot of money and retire, win or lose.
Mosley is great. He does have father time and mother nature against him, as he is flirting with growing old overnight. if he does have lots left in the tank, then I do agree with you. Mosley destroys fighters his size and shorter. He has only shown difficulties with boxers taller than him. Just a fact. But Berto, Mayweather,and Pacquiao are tailor made for him. He will find them a lot tougher than Mayorga, Margarito, and Cotto(a fight i think mosley won)but overall, Mosley is better than all of the above. They “should” stay away from him. I feel bad for Mosley. They are just waiting for father time to slow him down before they finally give him a shot.
