Vitali Klitschko-Nikolay Valuev: in works for April/May

By Peter Wells: According to boxingscene .com, World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko vs Nikolay Valuev could be happening in April or May. This fight has been mentioned for quite a while now, but finally it looks like we could be looking at a fight of the giants.

Since Valuev lost his WBA Heavyweight title to David Haye this November, the fight will be for Vitali’s WBC title only, and not unification. David Haye is very much interested in fighting Vitali later next year in a unification fight, and David wouldn’t want Valuev to win the title, so he has to have a rematch.

Klitschko will be the favourite and he should be, but this will be the most boring fight in boxing, two slow tall fighters, who don’t do a thing all fight. But that’s what we’ve come to, and the build up will be more exciting than the fight itself.

I would have to give Vitali the nod to take the victory on a close decision, in which Klitschko will do the more work from the back foot, but Valuev will get his shots in and will make a fight of it, as the ring isn’t that big, so for most of the fight they will both be stuck in centre ring.

Vitali will have an impressive performance against Valuev.
He has something to prove. Kevin “Kingpin” Johnson survived his fight by cowardly refusing to fight and putting his shoulder up every time Klitschko closed in on him. No thought of victory, Just let me survive this without getting hurt. The trash talking and stare downs mean nothing if your heart is not in it. He looked scared to death. It’s easy to make someone else look bad if all you care about is survival. I have been a student of boxing for a very long time. Jimmy Young did the same thing to Muhammad Ali back in the 1970′s. It was an atrocious fight. Young’s intent was survival.
Way back in 1940 a guy by the name of Arturo Godoy survived 15 rounds with Joe Louis, which few fighters were able to do. He fought the whole fight bent way over in a crouch in mortal fear that if he stragitened up Louis would hit him. To further Louis’s himiliation, he came out of the crouch long enough to plant a kiss on Louis’s forehead in the 14′th round.
They fought again and in the return Louis delivered a clinic on how to destroy a fighter who fought out of a crouch.
Look it up on You Tube. All the old fighters are on there.
Louis Vs Godoy II. Louis defended his title 25 times with 21 KO’S. More than any other champion in any division in the history of boxing. He was also the champion longer than any other champion in any division, 12 years.
What a truly great fighter he was.

I think the boxing writers in America undersetimate Vitali Klitschko. He was on his way to destroying Lennox Lewis before the fight was stopped on cuts. After that Lennox wanted no part of him and retired. To this day he continues to bad mouth Vitali when he does commentary on HBO for one of Vitali’s fights.
Vitali has the best KO percetage of any heavyweight champion in history. He has never been knocked down and he has never been behind in a fight.
Boxing fans, give this guy a break. He is awkward, but he uses his awkwardness to his advantage. I have never seen anyone use their height to their advantag the way Vitali does.
    That is all for now.

I’d love to see this — kudos to Vitali for keeping so busy at age 38!

  • rick says:

I am sure that Vitali will do a better job againts Valuev than Haye had done. Vitali is 38 yrs old and yet he fights more often that the 29 yr old Haye. This is the mark of a true champion.

  • Uncle Ewald says:

The writer is not even close. Vitali has beaten four talented and except for Kevin Johnson courageous opponents. VK has been very active in each fight making his foe look rather bad while Vitali threw a great deal of leather for each opponent to chew on.
The Valuev fight should it materialize will be a long evening for the big Russian with the end coming either by stoppage or Big Nick not coming out for the next round.

gotta say…vitali will struggle with valuev. all his natural advantages are taken away. tough fight to pick…

  • Atos says:

It is a great fight and it will not be even near boring. These guys don’t run off their oponents!

  • mr chicken says:

johnson did not come to take vitalis belt, otherwise johnson should have gone after it. but vitali would not permit johnson to do it. all johnson did was jab, bend at the waiste and just gave his back side to punch. Value will get stopped round 9.

  • Rob says:

If the fight will happen, it will be an easy fight for Vitali again and I think it will be a KO or retirement on his chair for Valuev.
Vitali will have no problems with Nicolay’s height because he’s tall himself, and a much faster and better boxer.
Don’t expect a close fight like with a running Haye, but a Vitali who drives his opponent trough the ring, punishing him until he can take no more.

And sure, people will say afterwards that it was a dull onesided match like all Vitali’s last fights but face it, it’s just that they (he and Wlad) got no opposition.

Actually, I only think Vitali only takes this fight to make Haye look bad, because Haye won’t face him himself.

  • BigGeorge says:

Has the guy writing this article got a brain?
Chagaev humiliated a prime, Undefeated Valuev! Valuev isn’t the same fighter that he once was! Just because Haye won against Valuev by robbery doesn’t mean that KLitschko will struggle against Valuev! Haye was even put down by Barrett that had a tiny bit of speed!
BEcause of Valuev size, he become washed up soo quick, because there alot of ware and tear in his body!

Klitschko to win by a KO before the 10th while winning a shutout!

  • ALLAHblessKLITSCHKO's says:

At last, someone will KO Valuev and beat him badly!
