Tua to fight five times in 2010
By Jason Kim: 37-year-old David Tua (50-3-1, 43 KO’s) plans on fighting five times in 2010, according to Radio New Zealand News. Tua recently canceled his February bout against Bruce Seldon. Tua’s next fight is scheduled against Friday Ahunanya. This will be interesting to see if Tua can actually fight five times in a year. Tua has only fought six times in the past three years, and only once in the past two years. It’s nice that he has finally decided to move forward with his career and get busy. However, it remains to be seen whether or not Tua can actually get in the ring as many as five times in a year.
It was a good win for Tua. However, Tua needs to fight better opponents than Cameron and Ahunaya if he wants to get the boxing public’s interest. It’s been six years since Tua last fought a good 1st tier fighter. He fought to a 12 round draw with Hasim Raham in 2003. Since that time, Tua has fought strictly B and C class fighters until recently when he beat Cameron, a fringe contender.
In November 2000, Tua lost a lopsided 12 round decision to Lennox Lewis in a failed attempt to capture the IBF/WBC heavyweight titles. Tua did very little in that fight and seemed gun shy. The next year, Tua was defeated by Chris Byrd in a 12 round decision.
A positive that came out of Tua’s last fight was his weight. Tua came into the fight weighing a trim 237, and was able to throw good combinations like he had in the early part of his career. He looked very good in putting his punches together against Cameron. This was something that was missing in the past five or six years, a time when Tua was throwing only one punch at a time and not throwing combinations.

David Tua looked very good in the fight against shane. However if he meets a stiff JAB this will nuetralize him unless he works on his head movement. He does have power which may get him past the Klitshko brothers but I truly believe to beat them he has to get past those jabs because no heavyweight in there right mind would want to get in a brawl with Mr. Tua but I do think he can be outboxed
You’re still a best fighter.
Keep up that samoan punch.
God bless you and your family.
We love you Tua!..keep up the good work uso
Tua is looking in much better shape than I have seen him in previous fights. I think he is improving with age and may still have some time to go. Rather reminds me of another hard hitter who was still pounding them at 49years of age”george forman”.
I watched the Tua/Cameron fight recently and was surprised at Tua’s overall progress since I saw him last. He appeared much slimmer, much faster, much more aggressive, and, most importantly, just as powerful as he’s ever been. Can he be competitive amongst today’s heavyweights? Absolutely!
david tua is back and he wants it bad.at 37 he is wiser and hunger experience and self belief and great team behind him will get him there he?s one of those guys he gets better as he get old
(Tua needs to fight better opponents than Cameron and Ahunaya if he wants to get the boxing public’s interest.) I dont think anybody would be interested in watching the heavyweight fights that have been taking place. Never once has anyone brought up a Klitschko fight in conversation that showed on HBO. I guess nobody even cares to watch these no name opponent’s the Klitschko bros. fight, thats why they could never get people to buy it on PPV. The heavyweight division needs a facelift. When is the last time they had a PPV worth watching?
this is the new and approve david tua his last 5-6 fight was all knock outs……and the other reason why tua is taking a long time 4 him to get up there is because top fighter is scared to fight him……so you know what ill give him 3-4 fight, and those top fighter will be force to fight him so who ever has the belt by then better run TUAs coming
if tua stay active he can beat anybody including the klitchkos.vitaly is too old and unexperienced compare with tua and wladimir is too scared from a big puncher like tua
Sorry but Tua is from the past, he has had his chance and blew it. Wlad will be a repeat of Lewis, and Vitali will be a repeat of Peter.
Tua for all his punching power went the distance with the likes of Robert Hawkins a journeyman, Cisse Salif who was Ko by Ray Austin and up till now has a 17 fight loss on his resume. Chris Byrd out boxed him what do you think the two time destroyer of Byrd will do to him?
He will however have a good chance against Haye but that’s a plastic title, anyone can have that one.
Tua was once a really good prospect for the sport but just dissapeared into obscurity sadly. I think this may be just hype. I doubt he has the speed and skills left now to trouble Haye or the Klitschkos. Hes def a better fighter than the USA slobs hanging around looking for a lucky punch in a title shot though.
tua v the klichkos, that sounds good. vladimir v tua and vitali v haye, now thats what i’m talking about.
zee zee : you right on the money go the tua man
David Tua is a different person now and i think its his time to hold the title.
A MUST: David Tua vs Chris Arreola that will be a classic then again Chris might cry at the end. TUA BRING BACK THE HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION.
Now or Never for Tua
tua the most underated boxer ever. DESTROYED WORLD CHAMPIONS. yet not one of them.
david tua and david haye are the future of heavyweights.
david tua, best chin ever.
most powerfull puncher in the sport – period.
HI Phillip H: you need to do your home work tua is a older wiser boxer just remmber allheavy weights can punch mate , ruiz had not lost when he fourt tua and he got ko,d tua now is boxing how he should of against lewis, HES GOT THE ANGER AND FURY IN THE RING AND POWER LIKE TYSON IN HIS PRIME the two KLITSCHKO brothers well he will knock them out easily within 6 to 8 rounds if i remmber one of the brothers got knock out , well tua has never been knocked out and think he never will be CHIN OF STEEL DO YOUR HOMEWORK BROTHER.
If Tua can stay trim and show the power and aggression he did against Cameron against some decent fighters he will defiantly be a draw card for a title fight some time in 2010 / 2011. He would struggle against the Klitschkos given the height and reach advantage, but if he can get inside he has the potential to be devastating. David Haye is the obvious target, but who knows how long he will retain his belt.
Tua is an exciting fighter to watch when he is in-form and I am really looking forward to see him fight next year and help reinvigorate the heavyweight division.
Tua has no chance on an elite level. He KO’d Ruiz on an HBO series called “The Night of the Young Heavyweights” in 1996. That’s almost 14-years ago; HBO dropped the series, and this is ridiculous.
If DT fights 2 times this year it’ll be surprising. No chance at all for a 5’10″ Tua in the division today, especially if he’s thrown into a fight with the Klitschko brothers. Hell I’d pick Kevin Johnson, J.C. Gomez, A. Dimitrenko, Eddie Chambers etc over Tua EASY.
Oh by the way, he’s over 40 too………………………! “Big” George he ain’t. Tua he is.
Once decent, now just plain-old past his prime’s prime.

I am part of the “boxing public” and I want to see this guy fight the belt-holders of this division, especially Haye! Rahman re-surfaced for a title shot after fighting “B & C level fighters”. Most of the “A level contenders” won’t dare step in the ring with Tua; too much risk!
Five times next year? I hope so, spectaculair fighter, his distruction of Ruiz is an all time classic, but unfortunately has real problems with big guys!
I don’t think it will happen but I want Tua to fight Haye next year, that will be something… And yes, I really wanna see Haye knocked out!
The Klitschkos are going after big names! like who? Tua is as big a name as anyone in the division.
